Chapter 110- Pieces of New Beginnings
When we got home, everyone seemed to disperse. Edward and Bella headed straight for the meadow, and Rosalie and Emmett went upstairs, still stunned from the portrait of Grandmother Black. Carlisle headed upstairs to his study. In his mind I could see that he was recording everything he had seen today, engraving it into his mind. He kept thinking about Kreacher, the small elf who had devoted his life to serving me and my family. Esme, Jasper, and I went to the living room where we planned on starting with wedding plans. As we worked things seemed to fade before they quickly snapped back into place.
"They're going to tell Charlie tonight," I said as I sketched a cake. "Edward is planning on telling him that he just wants me to see him married before I die."
"Charlie does have a soft spot for you," Esme murmured.
"I wonder how it's going to go over," Jasper said.
I shrugged and looked at the clock.
"We should leave at about 2:30," I told him. "That'd make it 8:30 there. It's a weekend so they shouldn't be too busy there. And if I'm not mistaken, they're going on their last trip to Hogsmeade."
"When does the school year end?"
"Last week of June."
"Should you wait until then?" Esme asked.
I shook my head.
"We already told Minerva that we were coming. She's expecting us."
"Are you just going to talk to Minerva?"
I shook my head.
"I'm going to see the other Professors and see if the unicorns are giving Hagrid any trouble."
Minerva nodded.
"What time should we expect you back here?"
"Maybe about 9:00?" I said, "I'm going to go to Gringotts and start closing my accounts today too."
Esme sighed.
"What?" Jasper asked.
"It just seems as though you are rushing to get everything done when you still have a ton of time."
"Esme, the sooner we get this stuff done, the more time we'll have to spend with you guys. Besides, it's not that much time. I have to be out of the country by May 24."
"That's so soon," Esme said. "Less than a year."
"Not by much."
"I'm sorry, Esme," I said, "but that gives Jasper and I time to settle into our house and get a new routine put in place."
"I know that, dear," Esme said.
As understanding as everyone seemed to be, the house was quiet. Jasper and I went upstairs at 2:00 to change before I Apparated us to the gates from the bedroom.
We made it to the office in what felt like no time. Minerva was sitting at her desk waiting. She beamed widely when Jasper and I stepped through the room.
"Oh, Alice," she grinned. "How are you, dear?"
"I'm good Minerva. How are you?"
"I'm doing good. I'm glad to see you, and you as well Jasper."
Jasper gave a wave before looking at his lap.
"Now what can I do for you today? You said you came with good news?"
"Oh yes," I said. "Very good news. Jasper and I have decided to move to England."
Minerva's eyes widened.
"Oh, Alice that's magnificent! Are you going to go back to work?"
I nodded.
"That's why we're here. I heard a rumor last time I was here that the Muggle Studies teacher is retiring in the next couple years. I was wondering if we might be able to get Jasper working here as a professor."
"And you?"
"I'm going to spend a few years helping George reform the store. But after that, I plan to step back from it and maybe move on to a different profession."
"Well I definitely think we can do something for Jasper," Minerva said. "Once you're back in England, I'd like Jasper to come here more often to shadow the current professor."
I nodded.
"Of course."
"Consider it an internship," Minerva said.
I nodded.
"Of course."
"When will you be back here?"
"We're moving back on May 24. That's the date we gave MACUSA."
"Alice, you need to ensure that you are out on that specific day," Minerva said. "MACUSA will come and remove you if you aren't gone by then."
"I know," I sighed.
"Why is MACUSA so strict?" Jasper asked.
"With Alice, it's because she's living with and is married to Muggles."
"But they aren't going to Obliviate the Cullens are they?"
"They can't," Minerva said with a small smile. "They're vampires, so technically they are a part of our world."
I nodded.
"Good...I don't plan on taking their memories from them."
"What about your problem with the tracker's mate? How is that going?" Minerva asked.
"It came to an end Friday," I said with a smile. "Victoria is dead."
"And that group of newborns in Seattle?"
"Also dead."
Minerva gave a smile.
"Well I can't say that I'm surprised," she said. "I had a feeling you guys would get her sooner rather than later. And I knew you would never consider coming back here permanently if there was a chance that you'd be putting us in danger."
"No, of course not," I said. "That's the last thing I'd ever do."
"Well if you're coming back here full time, I'd like for you to consider taking a teaching post here at Hogwarts. Horace was planning on going back into retirement four years from now. You would be the Head of Slytherin house of course."
"Tell me, Minerva," I said, leaning forward in my seat. "Would you have offered me this post if I wasn't moving back here?"
"Yes," Minerva said. "I was actually working on a letter to you asking you to consider it."
She reached into a drawer and pulled out the parchment paper before handing it to me. The date on the letter matched Tuesday's date.
"And the Muggle Studies position for Jasper?"
"It will be interesting, and maybe more informative to have it taught by a Muggle," Minerva said. "Like I said. Let's see how Jasper does as a shadow. I will talk to Professor Powell about Jasper maybe teaching the class for a day to see how he'd do as a teacher."
I nodded.
"May I ask, why is she retiring? She's younger than I am."
"She's decided to change her career focus," Minerva said. "She'll be joining the Accidental Magic Reversal Squad as an Obliviator. She'll be working closely beside Muggles."
"From the small time I talked to her, I think that'd be a good fit for her."
"She retires when?"
"At the end of the next school year."
I nodded.
"So next June?"
Minerva nodded.
"You'd only be working with George and I for a year," I said. "Is that okay with you?"
Jasper nodded.
Minerva smiled.
"Well once you and George figure out Jasper's schedule then we can work out one for Jasper here so that he can do what he needs to. And I trust that you will help him in learning the criteria?"
"Of course."
"If I teach here, will I have to live here?" Jasper asked.
"Well traditionally you'd live here or in Hogsmeade Village. If you do decide to live in the castle, we would give you Alice's quarters and she can come as well."
"And our house?"
"We can stay there in the summer and over breaks. Maybe on weekends we can go stay there too."
"That'd be alright," Minerva smiled. "We'll work out logistics when the time comes though."
"And tomorrow when Jasper and I go in we'll try and get a schedule for the next month or so laid out."
"Do you plan on staying around the castle very long?"
"Another couple of hours," I said. "I'm going to go see everyone and go check on the unicorns."
Minerva nodded.
"Then Professor Powell and I will set up a day that Jasper can actually teach for a day to see if he likes it, and then the two of you will have time to prepare for that."
Minerva nodded.
"And I know things are crazy with the Cullens," she said, "so if anything comes up, please let me know."
"The sooner we can get him in to teach the better it'd be," I said. "Maybe before this year is out?"
"I think I can arrange that," Minerva said. "Is there any day that you know for certain you can't do?"
Jasper turned to me.
"Al?"
I shook my head.
"No, I think he's free for the rest of the month. I'll be busy managing the store and making wedding plans for Edward and Bella, but I can drop him off here in the morning and come get him when I get off."
Minerva nodded.
"Alright, then I'll get Professor Powell up here to talk to her and I'll get you a date before you leave here. I'll send a student for you."
I nodded.
"Then we'll go see Hagrid first," I said. "That way there is no chance we'll be in the Forbidden Forest."
Minerva nodded.
"On your way out can you give this to a student to give to Powell?"
She handed me a small piece of parchment paper.
I nodded.
"I will."
"Thank you, Alice. I'll see you here in awhile."
I smiled as Jasper and I stood up and headed for the door.
We found a student by the name of Amelia who was more than willing to take the message to Professor Powell.
Jasper and I made our way to Hagrid's hut and much like he had the first time we came, he looked around the grounds in wonder.
I was greeted by Fang at the gate, and Hagrid came from his hut wondering what had sent the dog into a frenzy.
"Alice!" Hagrid said with joy. "I didn't know yeh were comin'."
"Kind of a last minute thing, Hagrid," I smiled. "We were here talking to McGonagall about Jasper taking over for Professor Powell."
"Muggle Studies?" Hagrid asked.
I nodded.
"We're moving back to England at the beginning of next year. It'd give us time to settle in before we come here and set up his room."
"What abou' yeh? Will yeh be takin' Slughorn's place?"
"I said I'd consider it and talk to George. But Jasper will be here quite often, and he's not going to have me to look out for him."
"I'll look out for 'im," Hagrid said, patting Jasper's shoulder. "Would you like to go see the unicorns?"
I nodded.
"And maybe Firenze too," I said. "I need to check with him about what he's seen."
"The darkness for the human girl you mean?"
I nodded.
"Bella."
"Do yeh know the way?" he asked. "I 'ave to go up to the castle, but I can meet yeh down there here in a bit."
I nodded.
"That'd be great. Where's the unicorn food?"
"Right here," Hagrid said, handing me the bag.
Jasper and I set off into the forest heading straight for the unicorn colony.
"I can't say that I wouldn't mind being able to see this everyday," Jasper said.
"And you're sure you want to do this?"
He nodded.
"You'll be there to help me, right?"
I nodded.
"Of course. I'm not just going to let you go in blind. We'll start working on the curriculum tonight if you'd like."
Jasper nodded.
"I think that'd be good."
"Then we can put together a lesson plan," I said. "It won't be too hard."
"What year would I be teaching on the day they set up?"
"Third to seventh years. You'd be teaching for the whole day. So we'll find out what day you're teaching and we'll make the number of lesson plans you'll need. You'll be fine, Jasper, I swear."
We made it to the unicorns not long after. Jasper helped me spread out the food amongst the colony. As we finished, Hagrid joined us.
"Done already?" he asked.
I nodded.
"They don't take long to feed."
"Not for yeh maybe. For me, it takes twice as long."
"That's because you're afraid to upset them," I said. "They smell fear, and it makes them uneasy."
"I'm not afraid of 'em," Hagrid frowned.
"Not of them," I said. "Of upsetting them."
Hagrid watched me carefully for a moment before he nodded his head towards the trees.
"Let's go see Firenze."
Jasper and I followed Hagrid to the centaur colony where Firenze and Bane were waiting.
"Mary Alice," Firenze said with a grin. "How are you?"
"I'm worried, Firenze," I admitted. "Do you still see the darkness?"
"Yes," Firenze said. "The human is still on the path that is going to lead her to death."
"How do I change it?"
"You can't," Bane said. "It's what's been set by the heavens. Only they can save the girl now."
I sighed.
"If we had stayed away, would that have saved her?"
Bane shook his head.
"You would always go back to the human girl, just as you would always end up coming back home, Mary Alice."
"So Bella will die?"
"Yes. She will."
"Turn back to the stars, Mary Alice," Firenze said. "They will lead you to where you need to go."
"Thank you, Firenze," I said in a quiet voice.
"Of course. Come back soon?"
I nodded.
"I'll be back before the school year is out."
Bane turned to the woods setting off through the trees.
Firenze watched him for a moment before he leaned forward.
"The girl is on the path, this is true. But the path can still be changed. Ensure that she is changed into a vampire, and her death can be prevented."
"Is there anything else you can tell me?"
Firenze thought for a moment.
"Look for Mars," he told me. "Mars will shine brightly if the path leads the way I think it will."
"You mean another war?" I asked in surprise.
"No, not a war. A battle, yes, but not a war. Lives will be lost."
I couldn't be sure, but I swore I saw Firenze look at Jasper.
"Look to Mars. It is then that you know it will be too late."
"When Mars shines, is there anything I can do to keep lives from being lost?"
"Remember what you learned here in Hogwarts. You will go on a hunt to find the key to your survival. Move quickly."
I watched Firenze for a moment.
Magorian stepped forward and offered me a smile.
"Mary Alice," he said, extending his hand to me. "It's been a long time. I was sorry to hear I had missed your visit the last few times you were here."
"I didn't think you liked me very much," I frowned.
"You saved Firenze's life during the war. We owe you a lifetime of debt."
"Both of our lifetimes are much too long for that, Magorian," I said, shaking my head.
"You are welcome here when you need guidance," Magorian said with a smile.
"Thank you," I said before turning to Firenze. "I'll be back sometime in the next few weeks."
Firenze nodded.
"I will be waiting."
Jasper, Hagrid, and I turned and started heading back to the castle.
"Did you understand any of that?" Jasper asked Hagrid.
Hagrid shook his head.
"No, but I find it best to not try to," he said. "Alice understands the centaurs."
"She seems to understand all of the creatures," Jasper said.
"Not all," I said. "I have yet to make friends with an Acromantula."
"And I don't think yer goin' to," Hagrid said. "The remainders of Aragog's children aren't too friendly these days."
"Worse than the centaurs?" Jasper asked.
I shook my head.
"The centaurs aren't bad. They're territorial, but they are actually a lot more understanding than they used to be. They used to have no problem killing a human, but now, they aren't so bad."
"I'm confused," Jasper said. "Is Bane the leader or is Magorian?"
"Magorian," I said, "but Bane tends to be the most hotheaded."
Jasper, Hagrid, and I all walked up to the castle.
When we made it there, I tugged Jasper towards the greenhouses, where I could see Neville and Pomona's outlines.
"Alice!" Neville greeted as Jasper and I stepped through the door. "How have you been?"
"I've been doing well. And yourself?"
"Can't say I've been doing too bad. How's the mandrake?"
"About to hit adolescence I'd say."
"Well then you'd better get it a friend," Pomona said, handing me another pot. "This is one that was potted the same day as yours, so they're about the same age."
"Thank you," I smiled.
"I've also set aside some Chinese Chomping Cabbage," she said with a large grin. "I hear you have a troublesome Muggle on your hands, so I thought that might be helpful."
"Thank you," I said again, "Bella will be a vampire soon, but it will be good to keep for when I have Teddy."
"Andromeda is letting him come and stay with you and the Cullens?"
"No, she lets him come stay with Jasper and I and we'll be moving back here in May."
"Oh, Alice that's magnificent!" Neville said. "I know Harry and George will be happy about that. Speaking of which, how are they?"
"They're good," I said. "George signed half of the store over to me, and Harry has been working hard in the Auror department."
"That's good," Pomona said. "I'm glad to hear Mr. Potter is doing so well."
I grinned.
"How's Hannah?"
"She's good," Neville said. "She's doing really well."
"Any children to be expected soon?"
"No," Neville said with a small smile. "I don't think either of us are planning for kids right now. She wants to get settled in at work first."
"Work?" I asked.
"She took Tom's place at the Leaky Cauldron. She'd been working there since the war ended, but he's just retired and left it to her."
"She's landlady now?"
Neville nodded.
"The paperwork finalized at the beginning of February."
"I think that'd be good work for her," I said.
I didn't remember much of Hannah Abott from when I was at Hogwarts. What I could remember was that she was a Hufflepuff and she was a friend of Cedric's. I could remember that she tried her best to fit in, even if it meant going against friends. In her second year, when the Chamber opened, Ernie Macmillan had easily convinced her that Harry was the heir of Slytherin. She had also talked to me about my father after he escaped Azkaban. She had tried to tell me that he could transform into a shrub and despite me telling her otherwise, she insisted that I was too young to remember.
"Who is Hannah?" Jasper asked under his breath.
"Neville's wife," I told him. "Remember the blonde woman at the Leaky Cauldron?"
Jasper nodded.
"That's Hannah."
Jasper accepted this as he looked around the greenhouse.
Neville, Pomona, and I talked a little more before Jasper and I left with the plants in hand to go see the other teachers.
Filius was excited to see me. He asked about America, and was even more excited to hear that we were moving to England.
"I think that it'd be great for the two of you," Filius said. "It's going to take a moment for you to readjust, Jasper, but it will be worth it. It's very different being here full time."
"I think he'll do okay," I said, grinning at Jasper.
"I think so too," Fillius said. "He has an excellent teacher."
Jasper and I moved through the castle seeing the other teachers. Slughorn gave me some potion ingredients, and when we had finished talking to Adam Montoya, a student came to me with a note to return to Minerva.
"You'll have to excuse us," I said to Adam with a kind smile, "it would seem Minerva has news for us."
Jasper and I moved quickly through the halls of students who were preparing to leave for Hogsmeade.
"Do you think it's good news?" Jasper asked, squeezing my hand as we walked up the stairs behind the gargoyle.
"I think that it must be," I said. "Minerva is hiding the decision from me."
"And if it's bad news?"
"Then we'll figure something out for you."
I knocked on Minerva's door which was quickly followed by: "Come in, Alice and Jasper!".
I pushed the door open and closed it again once Jasper stepped through.
"That didn't take as long as I expected," I said as Jasper sat down in the seat next to Professor Powell. I leaned over the back of his chair and smiled at Minerva as Jasper's future became more clear to me.
"Jasper," Minerva said with a warm smile. "Alice has spoken highly of you from the moment that she's come home. I've never really thanked Alice for the sacrifices she's made for us all. When she was alive and when she was changed. I'm going to give you a trial. You come in for a day and teach anything of your choosing from the Muggle world. If this goes well, then we'll offer you the full time position. Don't let Alice down, Jasper. She's got very high hopes for you."
"Thank you, Minerva."
"Of course. Now, Alice, how long would you need to help him prepare?"
"A week at most," I said.
"Okay, so why don't we plan for him to come on Monday the 26th?"
I looked at Jasper.
"Does that work for you?"
He grinned and nodded.
"Works for me," he said.
"Alright then," I said with a smile. "I'll bring him in at eight that morning so he can get ready before his first class before I head to the store."
Minerva nodded and turned to Jasper.
"Well Alice has made me aware of other things you have planned today, so I won't keep you. Good luck and I'll see you on the 26th."
Jasper stood up and shook Minerva's hand as well as Powell's before he snaked his arm around my waist and we disappeared to Salem.
When we reappeared, Jasper pulled me into a tight hug.
"Thank you, Alice," he murmured into my shoulder. "I won't let you down."
"I know you won't," I said. "You're going to be fantastic."
I kissed his cheek, and pulled him behind me.
"I think the bank is going to still be there," Jasper said as we moved through the Eye of Newts pub.
"I'm sure it will," I said, "however, we have much to learn and I have to help you plan your lesson and talk to Bella about the guest list for the wedding."
"How long will closing the account take?"
"Well I'm going to switch half of the account to Muggle money and give it to Carlisle and Esme, then I'm going to transfer the other half to Galleons, Knuts, and Sickles. Then some of that money is going into Teddy's school fund. Not much but enough to get him through."
"But isn't this money that you've saved over fifty years?"
"Yes," I said, "but I think the goblins will be happy to be rid of the Muggle money."
"How much do you have in there?"
I shrugged.
"I'm not sure really. I know I haven't used much. Just enough for potion ingredients through the years, but I've made money back by selling potions. Then you have to take interest in account. I know that there will be enough across all of my accounts that we'll live comfortably. The house is paid off and we don't need food. We'll be earning money from jobs. We could probably give money to the Cullens to make sure that they're going to be okay. Even still, that won't put a dent in what we have."
"You keep saying we," Jasper said. "Why?"
"Because we're married," I frowned. "It's not just mine anymore."
"You earned it," Jasper said.
"So?"
"So you earned it. It's your money."
I shook my head.
"It's our money now and I don't want to hear another word about it."
Jasper chuckled and made circles on the back of my hand with his thumb.
"You okay?" I asked as we made our way through Roundhill Alley.
"I'm fine," Jasper said smiling.
We made our way closer and closer to Gringotts. I think the unknown amount of money hidden below the bank made Jasper nervous. Money always did. He, much like Remus and I, didn't have much money in his human life. He joined the army so his mother would have enough to get by. Then Maria found him.
The goblins were more than surprised when I announced a complete withdrawal of the things in my account and the closure of the said account.
"Are things not to your liking here at Gringotts America ma'am?"
"No, no, no," I said, shaking my head. "It's not like that. You see, I'm leaving America. Moving back to England, you see. I don't plan on coming back for sometime, and I'd rather close the account and then reopen one should I come back."
"Of course," the head goblin said. "Would you like the money transfered to Galleons then?"
"How much is in the vault?"
"Over the last fifty-eight years with interest,, you have managed to acquire 5,900,000 Dragons and 25 Sprink."
"In Muggle money, how much is that?" Jasper asked.
The goblin began scratching on a piece of parchment before he slid it to us.
In a neat scrawl the paper read: $3,985,717.23 USD.
"Alice," Jasper breathed. "That's a lot of money."
"I know," was the only thing I could manage to say.
"Now," the goblin said with a slight smile, "how did you want that?"
"Okay," I said, sucking in a deep breath. "I need 1,459,080 Dragots and 67 Spinks in Muggle money. The rest of it I need in Galleons."
"Can you give us two hours to get that settled for you?"
"Of course," I said. "We'll be in the Alley."
The goblin nodded as he turned out of his seat to head for the vaults.
"How much are you giving them?" Jasper murmured.
"Close to a million dollars," I said. "They should get by on that for a while."
"And Teddy? How much will he get?"
"Probably about the same," I said. "He won't have to worry about money. He can get himself a house when he leaves Hogwarts."
"That's very generous."
"We have more in the vaults in England," I told him as we stepped back into the Alley. "That's money my family has been making for hundreds of years. Not to mention the valuables inside my vault. They're probably going to move my vault to higher security. More than there is."
"So this doesn't dent it?"
I shook my head.
"Not even close. We're going to be working so we won't run out of money for a while."
Jasper gave a small smile.
"It doesn't sound like a bad life," he said.
"It's not. It's a good life."
We had Dragots left over from the last time we had been here, so while we waited for the goblins, we looked around in stores. Jasper was intrigued by the book Who Am I that Gilderoy Lockhart had written after the mishap in the Chamber of Secrets.
"You knew him?" Jasper asked.
I nodded.
"He taught me Defence Against the Dark Arts in my sixth year."
He also took interest in Why I Didn't Die When the Augurey Cried and a book on Alchemy. While we were there, I bought the Muggle Studies textbooks that I didn't already have.
When we returned to the bank two hours later, the goblins were waiting for me. They gave me an envelope with the Muggle money in it, and three large bags with Galleons, Sickles, and Knuts in them. I peered into their mind. Everything that should be there was there.
"Everything is there that should be, miss," the goblin told me. "All we need now is a signature right here."
He gave me a quil and pointed to a line at the bottom of the parchment.
I took the quill and signed it before passing it all back to him.
"That is all, miss. Good luck in Britain, and tell Ragnok that Hotrit says hello."
"Can do, sir."
I dropped the bags of coins to the bottom of my bag before placing the envelope on the platform and snaked my arm around Jasper's waist before Disapparating.
We landed back in the Cullens living room where all the others were sitting. including Edward and Bella.
"How'd it go with Charlie?" I asked as I pulled the plants from my bag and setting them on the table.
"He took it surprisingly well," Edward said before showing me the moment in his head.
"And Renee?"
"Haven't told her yet," Bella said.
"I didn't expect you to be back so early," Esme said. "Did you get everything done that you needed to?"
"Nearly," I said. "But I wanted to talk to you and Carlisle before I went back to England to go to Gringotts."
"Of course," Carlisle said. "Where would you like to go?"
"Outside maybe?" I asked, glancing towards the back yard.
Carlisle and Esme stood up and followed Jasper and I to the backyard. We went to the edge of the trees where the others couldn't hear.
"Is everything okay?" Carlisle asked as Jasper wrapped his arms around my waist.
I nodded and smiled.
"It's more than okay. Really."
"Then what is it?"
"Well I have a gift for the two of you," I said. "It's a thank you for taking us in and supporting us through everything."
"You didn't have to get us anything," Esme said with a frown.
"I know I didn't have to," I said. "But I wanted to."
I opened my bag and grabbed the envelope. From the door, Bella, Emmett, Rosalie, and Edward were all watching us closely.
I handed the envelope to Carlisle which he frowned at. One he opened it, the frown disappeared and he looked at me wide eyed.
"Alice how much money is this?" he asked me in a small voice.
"Close to a million dollars," I said.
"Alice, no," Carlisle said. "I can't accept this."
"Please," I said. "Use it for whatever you want, just please take it."
"You and Jasper need this money," he said.
I shook my head.
"We have more than enough. In England alone I have close to twenty-four million and what we're adding to it here in a bit. Not to mention Jasper and I will be working and adding more to it. For my sake, please Carlisle. Take the money."
I pushed his hands that held the envelope to his chest.
"Alice you shouldn't have done this."
"I'm doing the same for Teddy," I said. "I set him up an account when everything was transferred back to me. I want to make sure he's living comfortably, and I want to do the same thing for you."
"Alice we have enough money," he insisted. "We'll be fine."
I shook my head.
"I'm not taking it back," I said. "If you don't take it, I'll give it away one way or another."
"We could put some of it towards the wedding," Esme said, putting her hand on Carlisle's shoulder.
"Is that okay?" Carlisle asked me.
I shrugged.
"It's your money. Do what you want."
Carlisle pulled me into a hug.
"Thank you."
"Of course," I said. "I have to look out for my own. Just because I'm leaving doesn't mean you're not my family."
"Where else do you have to go?" Esme asked.
"Gringotts in Diagon Alley. I've got to change vaults and I've got to put this money in."
"When will you be home?"
"Probably closer to 7:00 than 9:00. The goblins work quickly."
Carlisle nodded.
"I'm going to stay here," Jasper told me, "I'm going to start reading up on the Muggle Studies class."
I nodded and kissed his cheek.
"Tell them the good news," I said, before I Disapparated away.
The goblins did work quickly. I moved down to three vaults over from the Lestrange Vault. Everything was transferred, and I learned that Draco and Narcissa moved some of the funds from the Lestrange vault and the Malfoy vault to mine as a thank you for keeping them alive. Even the goblins had lost track. I passed along Hotrit's message to Ragnok, and then headed home. Everyone was still in the living room the only difference was Jasper was scratching notes at the coffee table.
"How's it going?" I asked, pulling the parchment paper with the guest list from my bag. I had worked on it while waiting in Gringotts.
"I'm learning a lot," Jasper grinned.
"Good," I said. "We'll come up with an in detail plan later."
Jasper smiled and nodded as I passed the paper to Edward and Bella.
"How's that for a guest list?" I asked.
"Is it just the Weasleys and Harry coming?" Edward asked.
I nodded.
"That's all you said."
"Helen and Tobias aren't on the list," he commented.
I shrugged.
"I didn't think they'd want to come."
"The Denalis apologized to Carlisle," Jasper murmured to me. "While you were gone."
"I'll add them to the list," I said, pulling the self inking quill from my bag and taking the parchment paper back. I added the names and handed it back.
"Better?"
Edward nodded.
"It looks alright to me,' he said. "Bella?"
Bella nodded.
"What are we going to tell them? About Harry and the Weasleys?"
"The truth. My family from England who were invited so they could see me one last time."
Bella nodded.
"And the oxygen tank?"
"I'll still have it on."
Bella nodded.
"It looks good to me as long as we have a plan."
"With Alice there's always a plan," Rosalie smiled.
"Come on then," I told her. "There's still more things to discuss before you leave tonight."
Hey guys! I hope you enjoyed the chapter! The next two chapters might end up going up together, although that will depend on the length of the next chapter. I don't plan on it being very long, but sometimes things don't work out the way I planned it.
Now for the money. I worked out how much the average American makes in a year and multiplied that by fifty-eight and then added some for interest purposes. I did the same thing for the vaults in England. So for the Dragots, I put them through a converter for Dragots to Galleons, Sickles, and Knuts, then put that in a converter that changed it to Pounds, and then converted that to USD. For the vaults in England, I just put the average salary for a year and multiplied that by three hundred and something and added interest to that. It's probably not accurate but it's how things are going.
So I hope you enjoyed the chapter!
