Jestalnaker94000- Yeah Brian Blake never stood a chance on his own, he always needed protection and could more than likely be beaten by anyone in a one on one fight. Also did check out your story, it's a very interesting concept and it's well made, great work!

Kevinrock8899- Read on to find out how everything works out between Glenn, Lee, and Oberson!

Don 77- Yes, things have indeed gotten very intense very fast, and Woodbury has only just shown up. There is so much to happen still, so be prepared.

Thedarkpokemaster- I have some plans for Logan to show his creepiness, as for Lee and Glenn read on to find out what happens.

TWD Jacob 11- At this point the group's main goal is to survive but then, a fight is all that will be on their minds.

Bluntwave- Okay lots of questions and I have answers haha, so Julie won't be a stand in for Sasha, she's going to be more original and based around her normal teenage self. No Daryl in this universe, only comic/telltale. I won't confirm or deny Molly's connection to Woodbury, so keep reading to see. And finally I have big plans for Woodbury through this arc and even after.

Strongchristansilver- Happy to see any new reviewer, and always happy to hear someone loves the story, so I hope you like this chapter!

Chapter 22: This Sorrowful Life

Rick began to pant heavily, his heart almost pounding out of his chest while he stared at his stump. The deputy let out a groan as he forced his weak body out of his bed, "K-Kenny? Kenny...we gotta go," Rick muttered out while he tried to move to Kenny's bedside.

The redneck laid unmoving his breathing was steady but he was clearly out and not going to be waking for some time. Rick's eyes locked on the bandage that was wrapped around nearly half his face, blood stained the gauze over Kenny's left eye. Rick's eyes were wide and he weakly attempted to lift Kenny only for his legs to give out under him. He let out a grunt and fell down, grabbing ahold of the medical table next to Kenny's bed, taking it to the floor with him.

Mere seconds after Rick hit the floor and the metal table crashed next to him a young blonde woman wearing a blue doctors outfit and a white lab coat burst into the room. "Oh my god, Doctor Stevens!" The woman yelled out as she stared at Rick in horror,

"Alice, what is it?" Logan muttered as he slowly walked into the room,

"It's one of the patients, where is Doctor Stevens?!" Alice exclaimed as she knelt down next to Rick,

"Calm down we just need to put him back into bed," Logan calmly replied,

Just then Doctor Stevens pushed his way into the room, "What's going on in here,"

"The patient doctor," Alice replied in relief,

"My god, he's awake?! He should have been out at least a few more hours, quickly Logan don't just stand there, help me get him up!" Stevens snapped out while rushing forward,

"Jesus Stevens, would you just relax, it's not a big deal," Logan retorted as he moved and took hold of Rick's arm while Stevens did the same,

"It wouldn't be an ordeal at all if someone gave him the proper dose of anesthetic!" The doctor snapped back,

Just then Rick's body surged with energy and he sent a sharp right hook across Doctor Stevens face. Stevens flew back, the older man slamming against Rick's empty cot. "Who are you?!" The sheriff yelled out while Logan jumped back, "Kill...you…" Rick grunted as he tackled Stevens, trying to choke him to death,

"Sedative, get a sedative!" The doctor yelled out, Alice sprinted off but Logan stayed locked in place, watching Rick in fear, "Logan for god sakes, do something before he hurts himself!"

Logan took a tentative step forward before freezing a second time, Alice suddenly shoved the man to the side, now holding a needle, "Move!" She hissed out, "I got it, Doctor Stevens,"

"Quickly Alice," Steven's coughed back as Rick's hand tried to squeeze the life out of him,

"It's in," Alice replied as she quickly stuck Rick in the shoulder and delivered the sedative,

"Okay...good," Stevens sighed as Rick collapsed on top of him, "Logan," The old man growled out, "Do something useful and go get someone to help us get him back into the bed," Logan nodded and quickly left the room.

Meanwhile, down under the race track, Oberson had been working over Lee and Glenn for close to an hour. Lee squeezed his eyes shut as Glenn was struck by Oberson again. The man had done his best to hold against revealing any news to Oberson but Glenn was paying dearly. The young asian man's face was swollen, teeth were knocked out, his right eye was completely closed up and his own blood was smeared all over his face.

Oberson stepped away from Glenn shaking his sore hand from the constant assault he had been delivering, "I am tired of playing these games, Lee!" Oberson screamed out while Glenn let out a few weak coughs, "Look at what you're doing to him, Lee, look!" The man yelled while grabbing Lee's head and pushing it forward, so he had to stare at Glenn,

"L-Lee," Glenn sputtered out while his gravily breathing continued,

"Glenn...jesus man," Lee whispered out,

"Take a minute, think about what you're seeing Lee, when I come back, you're giving me the truth, no more games," Oberson hissed out while letting Lee go and storming out of the garage leaving the pair alone.

As soon as the door was shut Lee hung his head, his ears filling with the sounds of Glenn's weak breaths, "I gotta tell him man, this has to stop," He said under his breath, "We'll be okay, we'll be okay,"

"Lee," Glenn said in a weak whisper, "Don't...you can't,"

"Glenn, they're gonna kill you man, I can't let that happen," Lee quickly denied,

"They'll kill everyone else too," Glenn groaned, "Maggie...protect Maggie, please,"

"Glenn," Lee pleaded,

"Maggie," Glenn mumbled in response.

Just across the hall, The Governor was finally finishing up with Michonne. The woman was beaten terribly, her lips swollen and split, her right eye closed up and nose surely broken. As the Governor buttoned his pants he looked down at Michonne with a smirk, "Okay, okay, I'll admit I did get carried away there. But I don't regret a thing, I enjoyed every minute of it. What about you? No? Didn't think so," Michonne hung her head, tears streamed down her face and she huffed for breath.

The Governor let out a sigh and wandered towards the exit door, hitting it twice with his hand, "Open it up, we're through here," As he waited he looked over to Michonne, enjoying the sight of her misery, "You just cry it all out honey, you've earned it. You don't have anything to be ashamed of, so you just cry your little head off,"

Oberson opened up the garage door and The Governor turned to leave the room only to finally hear Michonne's voice, "I'm not crying for me, I'm crying for you. I think about all the things I'm going to do to you, it scares me,"

The Governor starred Michonne down, and let out a gruff laugh, "Cute, a guy will be down here soon enough to clean you up, maybe give you some bandages, maybe even has some fun himself. Mostly he'll just be getting you ready for when I return tonight. Just want you to have something to look forward to, later."

Oberson shut the door and walked with The Governor who let out a short yawn, "So, did you get anything out of her?"

"Not really," The Governor replied, "How about you?"

"I think I'm about to," Oberson replied, "I've been working over the black one, fella's name is Lee, beating the hell outta the other one, Glenn, has been working pretty well,"

"Yeah? Good, let me know what happens, I need to go get some sleep, also don't forget to send up the package for me," The Governor replied with a stretch, "I need to go get some sleep,"

"Yeah, talk to you later, Phillip," Oberson said while he returned to Lee and Glenn's cell. The veteran entered the garage and moved slowly over to Lee, pulling out his knife, "Okay, you had your minute Lee, now are you going to tell me what I want to know?"

Lee lifted his head and stared Oberson down, "Yes,"

"Lee, don't." Glenn groaned back.

Oberson turned and gave him a sharp back hand, "Shut up!" He barked out before turning back to Lee, "Talk Lee, tell me the truth and this ends, I'll call our doctor down and he will help Glenn,"

"Okay, okay, what do you want to know first?" Lee gulped while Glenn looked at Lee in fear,

"Where are you people staying?"

"A farm," Lee quickly replied causing Glenn's eyes to widen,

"A farm," Oberson nodded, "How'd you end up on this farm,"

"It was owned by one of our group, an older man, been in his family for generations. We got there early on, reinforced the fence, we farmed the crops for food and turned the barn into an area to live in. It's a rural area so not too many walkers,"

Oberson took the information in and hummed in agreement, "How many are in your group?"

"We started off small, but we try to help as many as we can, we are pushing just over twenty now, we thought if someone survived that helicopter crash we could have helped them," Lee muttered back,

"A foolish idea, you can't help everyone anymore Lee," Oberson chastised, "How far is this farm?"

"Not too far, maybe...three or four hours away from the helicopter on foot," Lee merely guessed, doubling the distance from the prison, "Somewhere up north,"

Oberson nodded and slowly got to his feet, "So that it, your group is living on a farm up north a few hours, between the house and the barn, farming for food,"

"Yeah, that's right," Lee nodded,

"Where'd you get the suits?" Oberson frowned,

"That part was true to be honest, we found a police van and they were inside it, that was the only way we felt safe enough to leave the farm to search," Lee easily replied,

"Hmph," Oberson grunted back, "A farm," He muttered under his breath, "I'll see what Phillip thinks about that,"

"I told you what you wanted, now you do what you promised, get Glenn a doctor," Lee growled out,

"Yeah, I'm a man of my word, Lee," Oberson stoically replied while reaching for his belt, picking up his walkie talkie and heading away from the pair,

"Glenn, how are you doing man?" Lee softly asked,

"Okay, t-thanks Lee," Glenn weakly smiled back,

"You're gonna be okay man," Lee assured him with a weak smile. Moments later Oberson returned to the pair, wandering behind Glenn causing Lee to frown, "How long is this going to take, Glenn really needs a doctor,"

Oberson looked back to Lee, his eyes lazy and uninterested while his hands rested on his belt, "Sorry Lee, He's not going to be fast enough,"

Lee's and Glenn's eyes widened, "What?" Lee asked in a gasp,

Oberson smirked and swiftly pulled his knife out, bringing it around Glenn's head and slitting his throat. Glenn let out a gurgling shout blood sprayed out as his jugulars were severed, hitting Lee in the face before waterfalling down over his body. Lee's jaw fell slack, his eyes turned wet and he merely locked eyes with Glenn who struggled for only mere seconds to breathe before his body started to go limp. The young asian man's eyes turned glassy and his finally dropped forward, hanging down. Glenn was dead in seconds, the only mercy being he didn't even know what was truly happening to himself before it was all over.

Lee stared at Glenn's body, unable to speak, the shock controlling him completely. Oberson let out a low exhale and shook his head, "I warned you Lee, I wanted the truth, you think that cheap story about a farm was going to win me over? That suit your wearing doesn't have a mark of anything on it, it's not police issued, I'm betting...a prison,"

Lee blinked a few times as he watched Oberson pull Glenn's head up and cut it from his body, he wiped the blood off his knife using Glenn's clothes. He then turned to Lee with Glenn's head in hand, "Don't worry about his body, Jeff will be here soon to take care of it. I'll be seeing you soon Lee," Oberson finished with a smirk before exiting the garage.

Back in the middle of town, The Governor made his way through town, the sun was just beginning to shine over the town and the people of Woodbury were slowly making their way back on the streets. Each member greeted The Governor warmly as he passed them, and he greeted them just as friendly. As he reached a small apartment building he entered through the back, passing by an old hungover man, he let out a sympathetic sigh and stopped, "Bob, please, go get some food. We got rid of the old bartering system, they'll just give you some."

Bob let out a grumble and pulled himself to his feet, "Fine, okay, if it'll get mother hen off my back,"

"Thanks Bob, I worry about you," The Governor said in complete sincerity, unable to deny the way this man reminded him of his own father. However just as quickly did this human manifestation over take The Governor's mind, did it disappear. The man entered the building and headed to the top floor, entering the far room. "I know I'm sorry, I was out really late," He said preemptively,

Suddenly a loud roar came out of a little girl turned walker who was chained to the wall, she charged at The Governor ready to tear into him. The Governor simply slapped the girl to the ground, "Behave your goddamn self!" He boomed out while the walker attempted to regain its footing to attack again. The Governor sighed and twistedly said, "I'm sorry honey, what's got you so upset? You haven't tried to attack me in months,"

The Governor looked over and spotted a bucket of human guts and body parts rolled out of reach, "Oh you knocked your food away, you need to be more careful. I raised you better than this. Here," The walker girl quickly began to eat from the bucket but spat the mouthful out and reached out towards The Governor, "See you let it spoil, that's what you get." He said in disappointment while walking away, "Even fresh I don't see how you eat it, I tried it and it was horrible. I mean maybe it's better raw, but I'm certainly not going to try it raw. Let daddy rest for awhile then I'll go get you something fresh,"

The Governor collapsed in his lounge chair and shut his eyes, slowly dozing off for a few minutes only to be woken ten minutes later. "Fuck," He grunted while getting to his feet, as he passed the girl she let out a groan and reached for him, "Stop it," He muttered without looking. He opened the door and saw Oberson standing in front of him, "What is it, I'm trying to sleep,"

"You asked me to bring this up, dickhead," Oberson snapped back as he pushed into the room with the box,

"Oh right," The Governor said with a small shake of his head, "Sorry, long night, Penny behave for mister Oberson," He ordered as he followed the man over to the kitchen counter, "So how'd it go?"

"The Asian ones dead," Oberson simply replied,

"Heh, no kidding, didn't think you'd kill that one," The Governor admitted,

"Didn't have a choice, the other one lied to me, tried to tell me they lived on a farm," Oberson explained, "I think it might be a prison, that armor they're wearing doesn't have any marks on it, only place with riot gear that isn't marked would be a prison. Problem is, I don't know the area,"

The Governor let out a small grunt and shook his head, "Me either, hell the whole damn town is basically from somewhere else, I don't think anyone knows the area,"

"We'll have to see what we can find out, maybe get it out one of them if we keep pushing," The Governor suggested, "Anyway, I need to sleep for awhile, and you should too,"

"Maybe, if I can find the time for it," Oberson lightly joked, "I put a few extras in the box, still don't know exactly why you need this shit in the first place but I don't care enough to really fight you on it,"

"Good to know," The Governor replied as he watched Oberson head out of his apartment. As the door shut The Governor opened the box and smiled, he reached in and pulled out Rick's severed hand, "Here, you can have this," He chuckled while tossing it to Penny who immediately began to devour it. With that, The Governor took the box to his living room and pulled out three heads, the two helicopter survivors and Glenn's. He dropped them into a fish tank and sat down on his chair, looking at dozens of tanks filled with heads, "Fifty seven channels and nothing on," He sighed before leaning back and closing his eyes.

Hours ticked by as Lee was forced to sit across from Glenn's body, the man was numb, he couldn't feel anger, despair, fear, anything at all. The hours had all melted together and he barely reacted when the garage door finally opened. Gabe and Jeff entered the room, "Damn, Oberson wasn't joking when he said he took that kids head," Gabe said with a chuckle,

"I always take him seriously, you got no other choice...he was always a brutal bastard," Jeff replied with a shake of his head, "Uh, Gabe, you should take care of the body, alright?"

"Sure, you're gonna move him?" Gabe asked the biker in turn,

"Yeah, I got it," Jeff nodded that, Gabe moved to Glenn's body, swiftly untapping it's arms and legs before lifting it over his shoulder. Lee followed Gabe with his eyes as he moved behind him and left the garage. "I am sorry about your friend, Lee," Jeff said while kneeling down in front of him, "Oberson wasn't always like this, well, he was always tough but...look, you and your friend would have been invited to stay with us instead of tortured and murdered,"

Jeff waited for Lee to respond but the man said nothing, so the biker slowly began to untape his legs, "The Governor is a psycho, and it's bleeding off on Oberson. Before The Governor, Oberson only wanted us to be safe, sure he set a rule that anyone with severe sickness couldn't be here, but as tough as that is, that's for safety. We can't trust someone with heart issues to not die and turn, leading to deaths. The Governor on the other hand he just...kills, whoever he doesn't like or whoever just happens to seem killable at the time."

"To hell with all of you," Lee lowly replied,

"I get it man, never expected you to understand, I just wanted to explain. Look, I gotta move you to another cell, only following orders, so just come with me and lets get this over with, alright?" Jeff asked, seemingly like he was genuinely asking Lee,

"I don't have a choice, might as well just wait for my turn," Lee sighed as he got up,

"I hope it won't come to that man, really," Jeff said as he led Lee into a cell adjacent to Michonne's.

With that Lee was left alone until the late hours in the evening, sitting in the far corner of the garage he finally saw movement through the small windows of the garage door. It took a moment for his eyes to make it out but they only narrowed as he made out the faces of both Oberson and The Governor. "Jeff said he didn't cause any trouble, wasn't talking any, in shock for sure," Oberson explained to The Governor,

"No shit, Crawford, you cut his buddy's head off right in front of him," The Governor said with an amused laugh, "But don't worry, I'll give him something to wake him up," Oberson nodded and opened the door allowing The Governor to enter the room, "Wake up there big man, we have all sorts of questions to ask you, but we're not gonna ask a single one just yet. I can tell that seeing what happened your two friends, Rick and Kenny has really affected you not to mention what happened to poor little Glenn," Lee's jaw tightened and he clenched his fists, "Hey, hey, you can't be angry, Oberson told you the rules and you tried to lie, so his death is all. Your. Fault."

Lee closed his eyes and turned away, feeling the brunt of that accusation. Oberson stepped forward and punched him across the face, cutting the inside of Lee's cheek, "Pay attention!"

Lee looked up, spitting some blood out onto the floor, "Now that we have your attention I'm going next door into Michonne's cell, just so you know whose screams you're hearing." The Governor said while turning to leave, "Listen close for me, and just know whatever you hear, it's not going to kill her. I can always come back later for that though. That should get you ready to answer our questions." Oberson followed the Governor out of the Garage and began to close the door, "I'll be done in an hour or so, you'll know when the screams turn to whimpers."

The Governor walked to Michonne's cell, nodded to Bruce who quickly opened up the door for him. Michonne opened her eyes, glaring at The Governor who only let out an evil grin, "Ready for round two?"

Lee then heard the muffled voice of the Governor all but cheering as he began to assault Michonne once again. Her screams echoed into his room, making him flinch each time. It didn't take long for him to hear The Governor also begin to savagely beat the woman as well. Lee's lip began to tremble and he felt a few tears finally escape as Michonne's anguished cries continued without end.

Back at the infirmary Kenny's voice finally woke Rick from his slumber, "Rick, pal, hey, wake up,"

The sheriff slowly let his eyes flicker open and he raised his head. Kenny sat in his bed, still looking very weak while Doctor Stevens and Alice stood a few feet away. "Kenny? Are you alright?" Rick mumbled out,

"I got one eye, can't move a muscle without the whole damn room spinning, fuck no I ain't alright. How about you?" Kenny asked back,

"About the same," Rick groaned back as he looked over to Doctor Stevens, "So you're the one who patched me up?"

"Me, Alice and Logan," Stevens replied, "Although it was mostly us two, you've seen better days,"

"Yeah," Rick sighed while looking down to his stump, "Is it infected? I have a fever, I can feel it,"

"That's perfectly normal for the amount of trauma your body has gone through. I've been monitoring things closely for both of you, everything looks good so far," Doctor Stevens explained while taking off his glasses and wiping them clean, "Now I've spoken with Kenneth, but I need to know from you, are you going to attack me again?"

"No, no I don't think I will," Rick sincerely replied,

"Look Doc, I can tell you aren't like those sick fuckers, so what the hell are you doing working with 'em?" Kenny gruffly asked,

"Oberson and The Governor...is that even his real name?" Rick added on while sitting up,

"Alice do me a favor and go get some fresh bandages for our patients, the mention of the fever has gotten be a bit concerned," Stevens said sending Alice out before looking back to Rick and Kenny, "Phillip, his name is Phillip,"

"They were good men, at one point," Stevens began, "We started off as a small group, Oberson was the leader if we could call one that at the time, he thought the narrow alleys, and the nearby national guard station was perfect. He thought we could take a stand and defend this place. So we staked our claim,"

Stevens slowly walked over and pulled out a chair sitting down, "Started out, Oberson was tough, he had...some tactics that were tougher than we expected. If anyone was too old or had medical conditions, he got rid of them, one way or the other. I'm certain if I wasn't a surgeon, I would have been exiled or killed by now. Then Phillip arrived, the two of them took out the national guard soldiers that originally called most of the shots and cemented themselves as our leaders. They really did what they needed to do so we could all be safe, even if some of it was tough,"

"So what changed?" Kenny asked,

"After a while, it became clear that Phillip was doing these things more out of enjoyment than our protection, and Oberson's iron fist made it so no one could step out of are little more than evil bastards," Stevens all but spat out,

"Why do you allow it? The fights? Feeding people to the walkers?" Rick asked in disgust,

Stevens frowned, seemingly offended by the implication he was completely complicit, "What do you think they'd do to anyone one who opposed them? I hate both of them, but I can't do anything about it. Whatever else they do, they keep the people here safe. As long as they keep a wall between them and the biters, that's enough for most of these people. They could care less about who's with them on their side of the wall,"

"Well said, Doctor, well said," The Governor suddenly exclaimed as he entered flanked by Oberson and Bruce,

"What do you want?" Stevens growled out,

"You told me to come in today to change my bandage, remember?" The Governor smirked, amused by the doctors anger, "Bruce keep a gun on lefty here, Oberson?" The man nodded and pulled a gun on Kenny,

"I'll make it quick, I'm sure you're a very busy man," Stevens muttered as he moved to The Governor and began to change his bandage,

"Surprised to see you awake, didn't expect you to make it," Oberson admitted while he stared at Kenny,

"Eat shit," Kenny growled back,

"You're looking good stranger, healing up nicely?" The Governor asked Rick who glared at him, holding back from attacking the man,

"So when do you start torturing us?" Rick spat out,

"You two? Never, pegged you both from the start, family men," The Governor said with a shake of his head,

"A father will never turn on his family, you'd die first," Oberson nodded, "But, Phillip came up with a use for the two of you anyway,"

"What the hell are you talking about?" Kenny snapped back,

"I'm throwing you in the arena, a fight to the death, two friends beating the hell out of each other until the other stops moving, it's going to be a hell of a night," The Governor smiled, "Other than that, I'm planning on rapeing the dogshit out of the bitch who took my ear until she finds a way to kill herself, I left the other two in Oberson's care,"

"Your buddy Lee, I let him go," Oberson smirked as he put his gun away seeing The Governor's bandage finished.

The three began to head out of the room, "Let him go?! Why?" Kenny exclaimed,

"What about Glenn?!" Rick yelled,

"Oh right, Glenn," Oberson said with a low chuckle, "his body should be just about picked clean by the walkers, and Lee, he told us exactly what we wanted to know. We know all about your prison and if he's dumb enough, he'll lead us right to it," Crawford finished leaving Kenny gritting his teeth and Rick in pure shock.

Okay so big chapter, Glenn is dead, super early and it really is unfortunate but I couldn't see Glenn spilling the beans due to Maggie's safety and I figured Lee would try his best to save both the Prison and Glenn if he could. Also gained some more backstory on Oberson and The Governor this chapter along with a few other minor characters. So, I'm looking forward to your reviews on this chapter, let me know what you think of the surprise death and what you expect to happen in the future!
