Chapter 121
Mercedes sighed as she sat in the waiting room at the hospital. She waited for news from the doctors, Colby's doctors. Glenn might have only shot Colby in the shoulder. But he needed surgery on his shoulder because of the gunshot.
Police had gotten to Evelyn and Trevor's house right away as well as an ambulance. Paramedics took care of Colby with Mercedes not too far away. Police asked what had happened. Mercedes explained. Glenn slowly became conscious as the police officers were there now. One of the officers arrested Glenn was he was conscious and realized what was going on. A few more police officers showed up as well with this.
But with all this, Evelyn took care of her kids. An officer or two went up-stairs to check on her and the kids. Evelyn ended up being interviewed too, giving her statement of everything that happened. Mercedes had done the same and at the hospital. Once Colby went into surgery, officers were at the hospital getting her statement of everything.
Now however, Mercedes just wanted news on her husband.
"You doing okay, Mercedes?" Nick Morrill aka Marek Brave, Colby's longtime friend, former tag team partner and fellow head trainer at Black and Brave asked.
"Just getting impatient," Mercedes said.
"Me too," Holly, Colby's mom said.
"Hopefully, it won't be too much longer," Nick said.
"Mercedes Lopez," A doctor called.
Mercedes looked at the sound of her name. She saw a doctor. She quickly got to her feet. "Yes?" She asked, walking up to him.
"I'm Dr. Curry," The doctor said. "I was one of your husband's surgeons."
"How is he?!"
"The surgery went very well. He'll make a full recovery…"
"Thank God!" Holly said.
Mercedes smiled. "Can I see him?!"
"Yes, in just a little bit," Dr. Curry smiled. "I'll have someone come and get you."
"Thank you," Mercedes said.
"You're welcome."
Mercedes turned her attention to her mother-in-law and friend.
Evelyn sat in the living room of her parents' house. After everything that happened, she was going to be staying at her parents' house for a day or two: she, Trevor, and the kids.
Evelyn's cell phone rang. She looked to see who was calling her. It was Mariah.
"Hey, Mariah," Evelyn said.
"Dad's out of surgery," Mariah said. "It went well."
"Good. How's mom?"
"She's good. She'll be going back to see Dad in a little bit. I went to the bathroom when the doctor came out. But she wanted me to let you know he's doing okay. I'm going to call Katianna and Aaron next."
"Okay, thank you, Mari," Evelyn said. "I love you."
"I love you too, Evie," Mariah said.
"Bye."
Evelyn ended the call on her cell phone as Trevor came into the living room.
"Any news of your dad?" Trevor asked.
"Yeah, he's out of surgery and he's okay," Evelyn replied.
"Good."
"How are the kids?" Evelyn asked as she sat back down on the sofa.
"Sadie just needed a diaper change and I put her back to sleep. Hannah and Andy are just playing with Uncle Derek and Aunt Valerie," Trevor said.
"Look Evie," Trevor continued as he sat down on the sofa next to his wife. Evelyn looked at her husband. "I'm sorry I wasn't there when Glenn showed up. I'm sorry…"
"…Do not be sorry, baby!" Evelyn exclaimed. "You have nothing to be sorry for."
"I should have been there!"
"Trevor, no! You do not need to be sorry for anything! You do not need to feel bad, feel guilty, or anything like that with not being there when Glenn showed up! I'm okay and the kids are okay! And my mom's okay! My dad might have gotten hurt, but he only got shot in the arm. He just had to have a small surgery for his shoulder. He's going to be just fine! I am just glad my parents got there when they did. I was so fucking scared, yes! But I'm fine right now!"
Trevor nodded his head. "I was scared when I showed up to those cop cars and the ambulance."
"I know you were. But I'm fine right now, baby! I know I might not be okay down the line, maybe. But right now, I am! I promise!"
"All right," Trevor replied.
Evelyn smiled. She moved from her spot on the sofa and climbed into her husband's lap. Trevor smiled. He wiped his arms around his wife and she wrapped hers around his neck. "I love you, Trev," Evelyn said.
"I love you too, Evie Eve," Trevor replied.
Evelyn kissed him passionately on the lips. She then pulled away from his lips and hugged him. Trevor returned the hug, holding her tight.
"Mercedes?"
Mercedes smiled. She looked over at her husband. He was awake again.
It was a few hours later. After he had woken up from the anesthesia from his surgery, Mercedes and his mom both saw him. He was glad to see them both and to know his daughter and grandkids were safe. He ended up going back to sleep because everyone said he needed to rest.
"Hey," Mercedes said. She got up from her seat and walked over to her husband's bed. She sat down on the edge of the side of the bed.
"What time is it?"
"It's almost ten o'clock."
"Is it just you here? Is my mom still here?"
"Yes, its just me here. I sent Mariah and your mom away at about 7:30. And Nick left here about an hour ago. Nick wanted to hang out alone with me for a little bit before he left."
"Glad to hear that," Colby said. He groaned a little, trying to sit up.
"Here," Mercedes said. She showed him where to adjust the hospital bed. He pushed the button to where he could move the bed to where he was slightly sitting up. Mercedes got up and helped him get settled with his pillow. "You okay? Do you want me to get the nurse?"
"No," Colby replied. "What's going on with Glenn? How's Evie doing?"
"Glenn's in jail. His arraignment is in the morning. How about we call Evie to see how she is?"
"Yes."
Mercedes smiled. She grabbed her phone from where she had been sitting while she waited for Colby to wake up. She sat back down on the bed. She put her phone on speaker phone and called Evelyn.
Evelyn laid in bed, wrapped up in her husband's arms as they slowly tired to go to sleep. She sat up and reached for her phone on the night stand and looked to see who was calling her. She smiled when she saw it was her mom.
"Hey Mom."
"Hey sweetheart," Mercedes said.
"Hey baby doll," Colby said.
"Hi Daddy!" Evelyn replied. "I'm so glad to hear from you. How are you doing?"
"I'm fine. How are you and the kids?"
"I'm fine too, Daddy. The kids are all asleep. Yours included. And Trevor's right here with me."
"Good," Colby replied.
"Is Mariah still up?" Mercedes asked.
"No, she went to bed herself," Evelyn replied.
"Okay. Well, we'll let you go, sweetheart. Your dad just wanted to know how you were doing."
"I'm just fine."
"Good," Colby said. "I love you, Evelyn!"
"I love you too, Daddy," Evelyn replied. "I'll be there tomorrow to see you."
"Sounds good."
"Okay. Bye, Mom. I love you."
"I love you too, sweetie."
Mercedes ended the call on her phone.
Evelyn put her phone back down on the nightstand. She turned her attention to Trevor. He smiled at her. She moved to him and kissed him. She then laid down again. Her head resting on her husband's chest. Trevor wrapped his arms around her again. He kissed the top of her head and slowly stroked her hair. Evelyn snuggled into his chest.
Evelyn was very tired from the day. She was glad her parents, her kids, and herself were all safe. She was glad no one was seriously hurt. She was glad Glenn was in jail, but she hoped he'd be going there for a long time.
