The X mansion was very serene; the upstate here was little different in that regard from the other upstate versions I'd been too. The X men were nothing but kind/hospitable to Pete/me. I'd wanted to interact with them more. I definitely sympathized with their struggle for acceptance in an intolerant world. But I could understand the human side of it too. Mutants were powerful and could affect the world balance of power. It wasn't just a race struggle; it was a power struggle as well. In this way while mutant kind did suffer racial injustice too their power levels did make their sense of struggle that more complicated; much more so in my view than those of internal human race struggles where super powers were not an issue.

And as much as I wanted to interact with them I'd chosen to stay alone in our guest room while Peter and Beast tinkered. I sat on the floor with legs folded and used Honor to focus my power to better understand what we were now up against...

"Greetings... Diana of Themyscira... I am Mephisto." This encounter was on an astral level. "You're the new darkness we sensed." "Indeed I am. You are indeed a very powerful being. You defeated the likes of Surtur and Galactus without breaking much of a sweat. And now you have your little toy hammer there to help you..." "You're with my brother." "At a distance yes. He's aware of our little fight to come..." "You won't win - and you'd better leave my husband alone." "Well, you know I can't do that. There's a balance to maintain - and your entry has changed all of that." "Are you with Mandarin?" "Not yet; but he could sure use my help." "Don't do this Mephisto..." "I admire your nobility - and sense of necessity Diana. I can see why your brother wants you so bad for himself. You truly are a remarkable woman..." "If we go to war Mephisto...I will show you no mercy." "I expected no less from the daughter of god. Farewell...for now..."

"Diana? Diana, can you hear me?" It was Peter. I came to; I was in his arms; we were on the floor of our guest room. It was just us. "Jesus, I was about to get help-" I put a hand over his and sat up. It was night. I'd been out for at least six hours. "What happened?" "I reached out with my power to find our new enemy." He sighed. "And let me guess - you did." I nodded. "His name is Mephisto." Peter frowned/shook his head. "Never heard of him." "He's a demon; a very powerful one. He's brother's newest agent now." "God this never ends." "And for the heir of Zeus it never will." That reminder sank in. He nodded. "Now what?" I stood and he with me. "I have a much better idea now of what we're up against. Let's talk to the professor. He needs to know." "Right."
