Upon leaving the institute the three of us traveled by car for Boston. We weren't in a hurry (thus no magic portals) and we wanted to blend in. Honor was invisible in a neighboring dimension but ever with me at all times. It could also help in countless ways for us in the field; so much so that I'd actually retired the wonder plane back to Olympus... Wow; I know. The day I retired one of brother Hephaestus' greatest inventions was the day pigs flew FTL... But Honor was a Marvel reality invention; it made sense to use it. I know I keep harping on about this darned hammer...but it is awesome! I can see why Thor's loves it so much. It's an all in one tool/weapon; it's so damned efficient! Thank you again...Allfather...
"The professor found two candidates in Boston with Cerebro alone that should suffice to start with," said Jean while Scott drove; I was the backseat driver. "The first is called Armor in the mutant underground; her name is Hisako Ichiki. She's attending Boston art school and is from Japan. The other is Danielle Moonstar; aka Psyche. She's a Northern Cheyenne circulation clerk at the main Boston public library." "Do all mutants have alternate names?" I said. "Many but not all. It's not uncommon," said Jean. "The mutant alias is for many of us a mark of liberation from the oppression of the human world. It's a way for us to find our true selves. It's also a rite of passage for many of us." I thought as much but I wanted to hear it from the source. Mutant names were much different than WW was for me. WW was just a random code name I'd been given in my reality's WW2. Of course it had great meaning for me...but not like what the mutant names had for mutants. Peter would be with me in this regard. Peter and I were outsiders to the mutant world and wouldn't pretend to be otherwise. Still, we were allies and here to help.
We went to the Boston art college to await Armor. It was good to have a psychic along for jobs like this. Jean thus went on a number of them. Having a mind reader/empath could help approach recruits and make that solid first impression that was needed to get them to join the institute. This was definitely Jean/Scott's turf; I was just along for the ride as it were.
Scott pulled over and we waited. Jean already had a strong psychic link on Armor's location. "She's coming this way," said Jean. I reached out with Honor and found her swiftly enough. She walked by herself down the street. "I'm going to make the move," said Jean. Scott looked at his girlfriend and nodded from behind his special glasses. "Do you want me to go with you?" I said. "I got this Diana; but thanks." Jean got out let Armor go by her and then reached out with her mental power to her... Armor stopped turned - and enabled her psychic armor suit; her signature ability.
Scott was tempted to leave the car but I put a hand on his shoulder. "She's got this Scott. Give her a chance." He sighed/did so.
The encounter looked promising despite the minor disturbance it had caused. People were used to superhuman activity; this was Marvel after all...
I wouldn't lie - the future recruitment encounter that would be hardest for me would be meeting Dust... I didn't like Islam; I never would. Brother had created it in my reality. This would be a hard thing for me to accept. And then there was Sabra... This would be a very interesting meeting indeed.
We didn't overhear what Jean said to Armor, but then we didn't need to - Armor shut down her exoskeleton and walked over to the senior X man. For the moment it seemed Armor's X man future had begun.
