Day 23: Content
Regulus Black was afraid. He wasn't ashamed to admit that, if only to himself. He knew all too well that there was no going back from what he was about to do. He knew with near certainty that he likely wouldn't live through the attempt. He also knew that he had to do it anyway.
Regulus had been so proud when he had joined the Death Eaters, so sure of himself. Now he felt only shame for the evil that he had taken part in. His brother had been right all along. Regulus felt a passing regret that he would never see Sirius again to tell him so. His brother would probably never even know that Regulus had tried to do what was right in the end.
Regulus' hands trembled as he tucked the note he had just finished writing into the locket. It was time. He took a deep breath and an odd sense of peace filled him. Oh, he was still afraid, but he found the fear easier to push back than he had expected. He may be about to die, but for the first time in a long time Regulus Black was certain he was doing the right thing.
Quite a short one for today, but as always, I would appreciate any and all reviews.
