It was supposed to be a party to celebrate the start of the RFA.
There weren't any other people at the party other than their friends and family. It was too new after all. Therefore it was small and intimate.
Even Jumin's dad was there, though there seemed to be a few missing people. Something about another one of Jumin's best friends and their girlfriend.
Though...
Saeran and Saeyoung had been shocked to see their mother—their biological mother was there. As they were trying to come up with possible reasons for her presence, it became quiet; and Jumin was coming up to them with a nervous smile on his face.
Since when was Jumin ever nervous whenever he talked to them?
"It hasn't been long since I began dating your mother. Yet, despite this, we've been a part of each other's lives for years. This of course means I've also been a part of your lives as well, Saeran. Saeyoung. I have been a witness to your lives since you were in grade school, and now both of you are already well into your high school years. I started out as simply a family friend, then that role evolved into being an older brother.
I slowly found myself caring for you.
Worrying over you.
Wanting to look out for you.
And then, I realized.
I had become heavily invested in your future happiness and well-being.
However, I don't regret any of it. Rather than regret, I have to say it has been a rewarding experience seeing you both grow into the fine young men you are today, while knowing I had a part in that. That being said, I am a greedy man. Just those facts alone are not enough. Therefore I'd like to make it official and adopt both of you."
The twins.
They were shocked.
They didn't expect this at all.
Saeyoung was choking on his words as tears started welling up in his eyes. "You… you want to… adopt us?"
Saeran's voice was soft and small, hesitant. "...Both of us?"
Jumin gave a small chuckle. "Why wouldn't I want to adopt both of you?"
"But... We're old. We're almost adults now. You don't need to adopt us. Why... Why would you want to do that?"
"Because I love you and I want to give the both of you everything you would want or need. Even if it's just my family name."
Just hearing that.
Hearing Jumin say he loved them.
It was shocking.
It was never something that needed to be said because they already knew it. How could they not? But to hear him actually say it out loud?
Not only to them, but in front of everyone they knew without any shame or embarrassment. To state it bluntly, because it was a mere simple fact.
It was overwhelming.
Saeran was already a blubbering mess of tears as he threw himself at Jumin, hugging him.
Saeyoung was too busy wiping his eyes that wouldn't stop leaking. This was too much. He was pretty sure he made an ugly sight right now, but he was too happy to care.
Jumin wanted them. THEM to be his children. Even give them his name.
This.
This made them so happy to be alive.
Han Saeyoung. Han Saeran.
It felt a little weird, but…
Of course they would end up getting a few copies of the official paperwork to frame and hang up for display.
It was proof after all, that they were wanted, loved. Their family may be composed of different people, some of which didn't even share a single drop of blood between them, but they all chose to be one.
In the past, no one ever expected those cold and lonely days to end. Even when they had hoped for it, desperately yearned for it. It honestly felt like a long dream. A long happy dream, but they were glad. It can't be measured, if the happiness they had now outweighed the suffering they had endured. But right now. At this moment.
It was all worth it.
