"Brielle come on you're going to be late for school." Dwayne said.

"I'm coming!" Brielle snapped from her room.

Dwayne rubbed his temples. It had been 6 days since Whitley left and Brielle had been really difficult for the last 3 days and he didn't know why.

Brielle walked out her room with the dirtiest look on her face.

"Well you look nice." Dwayne said.

"I look ugly." Brielle said.

"No you don't." Dwayne told Brielle.

"Yes I do my god you're just saying I don't cause you're my dad." Brielle answered. "Now shouldn't we get to the car since I'm going to be sooooo late."

Brielle started to walk out the house and Dwayne sighed.

What has gotten into her He thought. But hey at least it's Friday.

It was around 10:00 when Brielle got the worse stomachache of her life.

Since her mother wasn't there the sub who was some man in his 20s was letting the kids do whatever they wanted.

"Brielle you ok?" Mia said as her and Abby came up to her.

"My stomach hurts like really bad." Brielle said.

"Maybe you have to use the bathroom?" Abby suggested.

"No it doesn't feel like that type of stomach ache it feels different." Brielle told her friends.

"Well maybe you're just hungry lunch is in about an hour maybe you just need to eat." Mia said.

Mia was wrong after lunch Brielle's stomachache seemed to be worse so she did the only thing she could do.

Dwayne was on his lunch break when Brielle called him.

"Hello?" He said picking up the phone.

"Um dad." Brielle said.

"Yes baby." Dwayne said.

"I'm at the nurse my stomach hurts really bad can you please pick me up?" Brielle asked.

"Why does your stomach hurt? Are you hungry? Do you feel sick?" Dwayne answered.

"Dad can you just come?" Brielle asked.

"I'll be there in half an hour." Dwayne said.

—————half an hour later—————

"I called out for the rest of the day so I could stay home with you." Dwayne said.

"Thanks." Brielle said.

When they arrived home Brielle got a bunch of blankets and made herself at home on the couch.

"If you want I'll make you some tea that should settle your stomach." Dwayne said.

"Thanks dad." Brielle said.

Dwayne made Brielle her tea and Brielle turned on Nickelodeon closing her eyes in the jist of it.

Dwayne walked in with Brielle's tea and saw her sleeping and decided to leave her be. Maybe a nap was all she needed.

He put her tea on the coffee table and went inside his own room to finish up some work.

The next morning Brielle woke up and her stomachache had gotten somewhat better but was still there. She walked to the bathroom and did her business but when she wiped she noticed something: the tissue was red.

Suddenly everything her mother and father had told her last year when they sat her down at the table came back to her.

She had just gotten her period.

Brielle looked under the sink for Whitley's pads she knew she kept them there but all she saw was an empty box of tampons.

A lump formed in Brielle's throat and she started to cry. Out of all the times she could've gotten her period she had to get it with her father. Ugh Mother Nature hated her.

Dwayne woke up and heard someone crying he walked down the hall and heard it coming from the bathroom.

"Brielle is that you in there?" Dwayne asked.

"Go away." Brielle answered.

"Brielle baby what's wrong?" Dwayne interrogated. "Are you hurt?"

"No." Brielle answered sniffling. "Just go away."

Dwayne sighed and leaned his back against he door.

"Brielle you can talk to me about anything what's going on?" Dwayne said.

"I got it." Brielle said. "You know that big girl thing."

"Wait a minute you got your-"

"My period yes."

Dwayne felt helpless, his daughters first period just had to happen when only he was home consider himself lucky.

"Ok uh is there any you know what's in there?" Dwayne asked.

"No." Brielle said.

"Then we're going to have to go to the store." Dwayne said.

"Ok." Brielle said wiping her tears. "I'll be ready in a couple of minutes."

Dwayne walked down the hall into his bedroom he sat down on his bed and rubbed his temples. This was going to be a long day.

"Soooo." Dwayne said while Brielle and him were driving to Walgreens. "How do you feel."

"Horrible." Brielle answered. "I think that's why my stomach hurt so much yesterday."

"And I want mom." Brielle added she felt like crying again but she held it together.

"I know baby I wish your mother was here with you too but unfortunately she's not." Dwayne said.

Brielle swallowed the lump that was forming in her throat and stared out the window.

When the two arrived at Walgreens they immediately went to the feminine care section and that's when the trouble started.

"Do you know what to get?" Dwayne asked.

"No." Brielle answered. "Shouldn't you know I mean you've been with mom for all these years please say that you know."

"Brielle I don't really buy these things for your mother." Dwayne told Brielle.

"Omigod." Brielle said and she buried her face in her hands.

"Baby wait we'll figure this out." Dwayne said.

"Dwayne!" Somebody yelled and Dwayne turned to see Ron walking towards them.

"I know that is not Ron." Brielle sneered.

"It is." Dwayne muttered back.

"Hey my brother." Ron said doing his little handshake with Dwayne. He then observed where he was at and gave Dwayne a look.

"What are you doing in this aisle?" He asked then he looked at Brielle who was giving him the dirtiest look ever. "Oh."

"Yeah oh." Brielle said mocking him.

"Ron by any chance do you know what to get we're in a jam right now." Dwayne said.

"Ahh you're lucky you ran into me because unlike you my brother I am a real man and I buy my woman feminine supplies." Ron said. He grabbed a box off the shelf and handed it to Brielle. "These should be good for you now if you'll excuse me I came to buy Freddie some pickles her pregnancy cravings are getting out of hand."

Ron walked away from the the two and Dwayne and Brielle walked over to the cash register when Brielle froze.

"What?" Dwayne asked.

"I'm not paying for them." Brielle said. "Look a cute boy is at the register."

"Brielle that boy looks like he is 17 I'm sure he doesn't care you have your period." Dwayne told Brielle.

"Shh don't be so loud dad pay for them." Brielle said.

"Brielle."

"Come on Dad please."

Dwayne sighed Brielle had been through enough today.

"Fine go to the car." Dwayne said.

Brielle released a sigh of relief.

"Thank you." She said walking to the car.

Dwayne joined her two minutes later and he saw that Brielle had buried her head into the dashboard.

"You ok?" He asked.

"My stomach is killing me." Brielle said. "My god getting your period sucks."

"Oh come on it isn't that bad I mean at least you didn't get it at school, or at the beach or even worse at the circus." Dwayne told Brielle.

"Dad you're not helping." Brielle said. "Besides I don't even have anybody to talk to about it."

"You can talk to me." Dwayne said.

"Dad no today has already been embarrassing enough." Brielle said.

"Brielle-"

"Dad I don't want to talk about it anymore." Brielle said and she faced the window to avoid any more conversation.

When Brielle went home she took the bag of pads and hightailed it to the bathroom.

Dwayne decided to call Kim.

"Hello?" Kim said.

"Hey Kim it's me Dwayne."

"Oh hi Dwayne." Kim said a smile appearing on her face. "How's everything?"

"Good." He said. "Well at least for me I have a little problem here with Brielle."

"Oh, what happened?"

"She started her period this morning I guess she's a little embarrassed about it." Dwayne said. "I thought maybe you can come over and talk about it, Whitley comes home tomorrow so I guess she can talk about it with Brielle then but you know."

"Oh yeah Dwayne it's fine I'll be over there in a few." Kim said.

"Ok thanks kim."

"No problem." Kim said and she hung up the phone.

Thirty minutes later Kim arrived with a small bag in her hand.

"What's in the bag?" Dwayne asked.

"Chocolate." Kim said. "I know whenever it's that time of the month for me I crave chocolate so maybe Brielle might be craving chocolate too."

Dwayne made a face.

"Women are weird." He said.

Kim laughed.

"Dwayne why don't you go somewhere for a few hours go back to my house and hang out with Spencer for a while." Kim said.

"You want to have a little alone time with Brielle?" Dwayne asked.

"Mhm." Kim answered.

"I got it." He said grabbing his keys from the coffee table.

"I'll be back." He said leaving the house.

Kim then walked to Brielle's room and knocked on the door.

"Dad not right now." Brielle said.

"It's not your father it's me sweetie." Kim said. "Can I come in?"

"Yeah it's open." Brielle answered.

Kim saw Brielle crawled up on her bed tears in her eyes.

"Hey are you ok?" Kim asked she sat on Brielle's bed next to her.

"No." Brielle said. "I started my period today and it has been the worst day over."

Kim motioned for Brielle to come to her and she cradled Brielle in her arms.

"You wanna talk about it?" Kim asked.

Brielle nodded.

"We ran into Ron at the store and he helped me choose pads and then there was a cute boy at the cash register so I choked and didn't want to pay so I made dad do it and my stomach hurts so bad." Brielle said.

"Does your stomach hurt lower stomach, lower back?" Kim asked.

Brielle nodded.

"Ahh a classic case of cramps." Kim said. "Used to use those as an excuse to get out of gym class."

Brielle sighed.

"I just want mom back this would've gone completely different if she was here." Brielle said.

"You're right but guess what you have me here I'm always here to talk." Kim said.

"You're right." Brielle said. "Why is getting your period so embarrassing if it's such a normal thing."

"I don't know Brielle but you shouldn't be embarrassed every girl is going to get this sooner or later." Kim told Brielle.

Brielle sighed.

"Mom didn't tell me it was going to be like this." Brielle said. "All she said was 'one day you're going to blossom and that is such a wonderful day'" Brielle told Kim mocking Whitley's accent. "She never told me about the cramps or the mood swings or paying for pads when they're cute boys at the counter."

"Brielle I was just as embarrassed as you were when I started my period." Kim said. "I got it in the middle of the night thankfully but I didn't want anybody to know so I kept it a secret."

"Well did somebody eventually find out?" Brielle asked.

"Yup my mother about a week after I started my period she noticed her pads were low and she saw my underwear so she forced me to talk to her about it." Kim said. "I think the reason why we're so embarrassed about it is because it's a new thing happening to our bodies that we just have to adjust to."

Brielle sighed.

"Why should I have to be punished for not being pregnant, Freddie's lucky she gets 9 months off." Brielle said.

Kim laughed. "I guess she is."

"Thanks for coming over Kim to talk to me I really appreciate it." Brielle said.

"You're welcome Brielle." Kim said and the two hugged.

"Now how about I make you some tea for your cramps." Kim said.

Brielle smiled and followed Kim to the kitchen.
