Chapter 29
Promise
When peg woke up, she peered around at the beautiful surroundings that constituted her home. It had become a daily ritual. While some might find Peg's fascination with the house strange, it simply felt magical for her, as this abode was more beautiful than any other home she had ever had, or had ever dreamed she would live in. Her eyes then landed on her black furred mate. She was instantly reminded of the of the previous night's passions. He opened his eyes and greeted her. "Morning Highlander!" she responded. "Thanks for last night," she added.
"Well…" Jock began. "I wanted to make you as happy as I could."
"Believe me you succeeded, and I could tell you were really enjoying it to," she teased. Jock blushed in response. "I promised we would have puppies, and I intend to keep that promise," Jock stated solemnly.
"And I appreciate your effort, and besides it felt better with you than any previous male I've been with." Jock gave a bright, though slightly embarrassed, smile upon hearing this.
"Speaking of that, anytime you want to mate, please ask me," she added temptingly.
Jock nodded enthusiastically. "I was just about to ask the same of you."
Peg giggled upon hearing this. "well, I guess for once I wasn't the one with their head in the gutter," quipped Peg.
"Well…" began the black terrier .
"Based on what I'm seeing right now, fate has already decided to put our promise to the test," acknowledged Peg as she gestured with her snout to the area beneath his legs.
Jock looked down there and looked back at his wife with rosy cheeks. "I, I guess," added Jock.
"How 'bout after breakfast," she suggested. "Or can you just not wait?"
"Um," began Jock.
"Here, let me try something" interjected Peg
"why hello there," greeted Love as the two walked into the kitchen. Jock however wasn't listening to her as his eyes were on Peg. "Thank you for doing me that favor just now."
Peg smiled. "You're welcome. Besides, sometimes you just can't wait, and it was actually rather exciting." Jock looked back curiously. "Are you saying you want to mmmate for real after breakfast?" whispered the scotty cautiously.
"It's a bit sudden, but all right," quoted pegged anachronistically. She then added, "Afterwards, I'd like to see Lady. I have some questions for her."
As they walked toward the house, Tramp was in the front yard. Upon noticing them he straightened up and attempted to act elegant in a haphazard attempt at looking regal. Jock and Peg burst into laughter as they saw this. Trip upon hearing their laughter looked dejected, and Peg responded, "at least you knew to try, unlike me. "
Tramp, having just perked up a bit, asked, "what brings you here today?"
"Actually, I was hoping I could speak with Lady," answered Peg. Tramp said he would be right back and went into the house to get his wife. After she came out, Lady kept a suspicious eye on Peg.
"At least she doesn't seem hostile like she did last time," thought the mentally groaning Pekingese. Anticipating the uncomfortable moment coming on, Tramp preemptively broke the silence by untactfully asking, "so, I see you two have been intimate lately." To literally no one's surprise, this earned him a disapproving look from both Jock and Lady.
"H, how did you know?" asked the flustered terrier.
"I could smell both of your scents all over each of you," answered Tramp, in an equal level of bluntness, earning him equally disapproving looks again. "So Lady, how about that advice but tramp I gave you last time?" asked Peg just as untactfully in an effort to make Tramp feel less embarrassed.
"What advice?" asked Tramp. Peg then whispered Something into his ear.
"Oh," responded Tramp, who then gave his wife a curious look, and added, "She never said anything about that."
"I would rather not talk about this right now," whispered a scarlet cheeked Lady.
"So Lady," began Peg nonchalantly. "I wanted to know how I can tell when I am pregnant."
"Are you …, began Lady.
"We are working on it," interrupted Jock Preemptively.
"Peg, can we continue this conversation in private?" asked the crimson cheeked spaniel.
"Wait for a sec," asked Tramp who then whispered Tramp, who then whispered something into her ear. Peg then nodded and walked over to her husband and whispered something into his ear causing him to flinch. This earned a snicker from Lady. The two of them then went behind the house to resume their conversation.
"Any way, the first things you will notice will be an increase in both your apatite, and your need to relieve yourself. Also expect a constant bitter taste in your mouth. Not to mention your emotions and moods will start swinging around like a squirrel running up a tree," explained Lady. Peg just stood there looking thoroughly grossed out.
"I told you that being pregnant was not as romantic as it sounds," gloated Lady, who was clearly enjoying Peg 's realization that she had been right all along.
Of course you know about …," began Lady as she alluded toward her belly with her paw.
"Of course I do," indicated Peg, who wore a look of how dumb do you think I am.
"Sorry," apologized Lady.
"Just give me a sec to take it all in," Lady nodded, and peg closed her eyes, thought for a few minutes, and then opened her eyes with a look of conviction on her face.
"To the vet with it, Imma do it anyhow! He needs this, and I swore to myself I would do this if I ever got out of that mucking pound! I'm going to get pregnant and dog hamit I'll have fun doing it," swore Peg. Lady was taken aback by how noble most of pegs statement was.
"All I can say then is that I hope the two of you benefit from this experience," said Lady quietly.
"Thanks," responded Peg.
"Any way…," began Lady. There was a notable tone of suspicion in her voice as well as a look of suspicion in her eyes. "what did Tramp whisper to you?" asked Lady.
"He wanted me to talk to you about when you get to the point in your pregnancy were it probably might not be exactly safe for you two to mate mate," answered Peg.
"But why did he ask YOU to talk to me about this?" probed Lady.
"Well…" explained Peg. "I think he wants me to talk to you about other ways of getting that relief, and I think he thinks that I might be the best dog to talk to you about that. "
Lady mentally groaned. "All right," she finally said. "Besides I know that if I don't discuss this now, I am going to regret it later on.
"okay, so now where do we start?"
After an uncomfortably long and very embarrassing discussion with Peg during which Lady had to sheepishly ask how to do something should always felt was to forbidden to even try, and listen to instruction on instinctual acts she never even considered attempting outside of her fantasies. Lady and Tramp then bade the couple goodbye, and then watched him walk off into the figurative sunset. Tramp then turned to his wife and asked, "why didn't you bring up what Peg told you?" Lady then groaned at the embarrassing the situation front of her.
Chapter Notes
Jock's promise: The Promise Jock is referring to indicates that there is more to the highly instinctual nature of this conversation than just lust.
It's a bit sudden, but all right: This line taken from the film Braveheart, which was not made until well after this story takes place, hence the anachronism joke.
Lady's conversation with Peg: this scene drives home the contrast between these two characters with regards to how they view their base instincts/mating: Peg is open and shameless about it, while Lady is shy and skittish about the subject, which she views it as being a completely private matter.
Peg's "lessons" for Lady: Tramp is implied to be worried about Lady becoming frustrated and unhappy when she gets to this point. The whole situation of course is written to put Lady in embarrassing predicament.
