When Cid insisted on gathering us all in his office, none of us realized that his main intention was linked to an exhibition of clothing.
As individuals formated in a scientific unity our garments used to go unnoticed under long white coats. Neither my teammates nor I gave it much importance moving through the laboratories or the corridors that made up the nursing zone. Apparently our superior thought differently, guided by a very particular idea. It was not until we knew its origin that none of us admitted his genius, more concerned with the prints than the component that the first set of pieces of clothing possessed brought out by Cid and spread on the desk of darkened wood. His pale hands smoothing the fabric of the jacket proudly located next to the medium-sized table, his eyes radiating unbridled joy as he turned around so that he could address us. We looking at each other before fixing our eyes on the scientist, aware of how compromising his question was going to be. Cid was our boss, after all.
Well? What do you think?
No one opened their mouths, the probable weight of our words silencing us, consequently Cid began to cite our names as a teacher during a lesson, posing his gaze at each owner. The answers that he got vague gestures or sounds of ambiguous approval. Then it was my turn when my name was spoken with a hopeful tone in his voice. I instantly became the center of attention in the entire room.
Yeah, why not? At least it is original.
I said ignoring all the tension surrounding me, taking a step forward to feel the fabric between my fingers. The eyes of my colleagues following my movement. I didn't know what I expected to notice but it didn't resemble the soft touch of velvet or cotton. Hmm! That detail impressed me as much as the black and white patterns.
Right? Unable to contain his enthusiasm, Cid exclaimed, clapping his hands and as if someone had lit a wick, he started to expose us all the details that accompanied the outfit. After the unfortunate accident with one of the specimens it occurred to me that we should change our uniforms. And besides, we had to adopt a design that differentiated us from other research groups...
As it was usual under his excited state, the explanation would be prolonged with unnecessary rambling in between. With resignation and several nods we listened to him until we received permission to leave, returning to our duties.
What a waste of time! It didn't take long for one of the male assistants to complain in the middle of the road, several steps away from the office, forcing us to slow down.
But it was fun, Dr. Cid was so excited. Only our female companion would come to his defense. I wonder how we would look with them on.
On us? You're crazy if you think I'm going to go around with that on me! The same assistant was offended by the mere assumption. Shit! Cid shouldn't waste our time with his nonsense, it doesn't even look like a scientist's outfit but a pajamas...
Well I'm sure Kefka wouldn't mind wearing it. Without even opening my own mouth, I was involved in their discussion. Turning to observe her, she winked at me, requesting my collaboration.
Me? I pointed at my face with the index finger of my right hand and nodded with a malicious smile. Of course, it will be an honor to be the first to create a new style among scientists.
Well, if Kefka does it, so do I! Another collaborator appeared to us, increasing the humiliation of the complainer.
You can not imagine the face that Cid had when the time came to enter the laboratory, we had all changed our previous clothes for his design. At that time it was not that it was imposed or mandatory but in order to annoy our partner, we did it anyway. Seeing our superior so happy was worth it, dressed in his own outfit.
