The room was almost pitch dark, lit only by a tall candle on the floor near the center. Lara and her mother sat quietly in meditative positions on opposite sides of the illuminating flame. The only thing either of them could see was each other's faces lit by the flickering glow.

"Tell me again about Dad and Uncle Luke.", Lara said "What were they like when you first met them?"

"Two total opposites.", Leia replied after contemplating. "Luke and I were so young and he had the stars in his eyes. He was full of the spirit of The Force and he didn't even know it yet."

"On the other hand, your father was a cynical, wisecracking smuggler with a three meter tall hairy bodyguard.", she continued. "It was love at first sight."

Lara allowed herself to feel something other than devastating grief for the first time in several days and her mother couldn't resist either. They both laughed out loud and then after a minute or so when they finally stopped, continued to laugh some more.

"We took down an entire Empire and built the foundations of a New Republic.", Leia said contemplatively as she turned her gaze upwards into the darkness.

"I can't believe he's gone.", she said as tears welled in her eyes.

Lara looked away from her. Her own sadness had been unbearable at times since he had left them, but watching the same thing in her mother, the love of his life, was too much to take. The tears started flowing from her own eyes again.

When she regained some composure, she spoke.

"The other day when I told him I was going to stick around for a while, he was so happy. I could see it in his eyes.", said Lara while still sobbing. "He told me we had all the time in the world."

Leia simply looked at her daughter with sadness, unable to reply.

"You wanna know the last thing he said to me?", Lara asked.

"Yes.", Leia replied

"He made me promise that I would finish my Jedi training.", she said. "That I would be have to lead them someday."

Lara paused for quite some time.

"Do you believe that, Mother?", she finally asked.

"I do, Lara.", her mother replied. "You have been granted great gifts. Gifts that will help you bring the Jedi Order back to prominence from the brink of extinction. Your uncle Luke and I will make sure we help you fulfill that promise you made to your father. On that I promise YOU."

"I know you will.", Lara answered. "I'm glad I'm home now."
