Later that night, Josie, Jack, and Rose were home and Rose was helping Josie get ready for her date. Her hair was straightened then curled, her makeup was done, and her outfit was picked out.

Josie was leaving, and Rose smiled at her. "Remember to bring home the meatball."

Jack was confused. "The meatball?"

"It's a mother-daughter thing," said Rose.

"Bye!" Josie shouted as she got into Dean's car.

Rose and Jack had gotten to the restaurant. "I hope she has a good time tonight."

"I'm sure she will," said Jack. "So, what's the meatball thing?"

Rose smiled. "The first time Josie went out with Dean, I made a joke about how they would each pick up an end of spaghetti with their mouths and meet in the middle, and she would nudge a meatball over at him with her nose, and he would nudge a meatball over at her with his nose."

"Like in Lady and the Tramp."

"Exactly. And then she would bring home the meatball and save it for years and years."

"Funny," said Jack. "I love how close you and Josie are."

"She was the bright light in the darkness. She still is, really. Even though there's much less darkness now that you're here."

"I'm so sorry, Rose. I wish I could've been here sooner." Jack rubbed his forehead.

"It's okay, it's not your fault. Besides, I don't have any regrets," Rose smiled, trying to comfort him.

"What was it like being pregnant with her?" Jack asked.

"Well, being accountable for someone other than myself stopped me from giving into my self destructive tendencies," said Rose. "It was really special being pregnant with her, but it was scary. I was afraid to move, afraid to breathe. I was scared that I would have a miscarriage and lose the only piece of you I had left." Rose wiped away a tear.

"I'm glad she was with you when I couldn't be."

Rose touched his hand. "You're here now. And I'm so glad you are."

Finally, Jack and Rose returned back to the house. Jack and Rose went upstairs to Rose's room.

"What do you want to do the rest of the night?" Rose asked while she took off her earrings.

Jack stood up and gave Rose a long, luxurious kiss. "I know one thing we can do."

Jack led Rose over to the bed where they lay down and Jack kissed her deeply and seductively. "Jack," Rose said, catching her breath. He continued kissing her. "Jack," she said again, and got swept back up in the kiss. "Jack!" Rose finally pulled away and looked into Jack's eyes.

"What's wrong? Did I hurt you?" Jack asked, concerned.

"No, you didn't," said Rose. "I just… we can't do this now, Jack. We don't know each other as adults. We were only together for three days. And it's not just us anymore. We have Josie to think about. We need to make sure we work together as adults before doing this."

"Rose," said Jack looking at her. "I love you, you love me, we both love Josie, and none of the rest matters. We're together again for the first time in sixteen years, and although the conditions are different, we still feel the same way we did all those years ago, maybe even stronger. So if you don't want to do this, that's okay. But just tell me that."

Rose sat up and away from Jack. She went over to her jewelry box and took off her necklace. She sat back down on the foot of the bed. "Can you help me with my dress?"

Rose moved her hair away from the zipper and turned her back to Jack, who started unzipping. He stopped after about two inches, and she looked back over her shoulder at him. "A little further," she said, and he obliged. "A little further," she said again, and one more time before her entire back was revealed with the back of her lace bra.

Rose slipped out of her dress and was in just a lace bra and matching panties. She slid up and sat beside Jack, and smiled. "Aren't you going to ask me if I'm nervous?"

Jack smiled in return. "Are you nervous?"

"Never when I'm with you," said Rose. She kissed Jack and took his hand, kissing each of his fingers. "Put your hands on me, Jack," she whispered. She took his hand and led it over to her breast.

Jack took her breast in his hand and met her lips again. They made love slowly and romantically, remembering the first time they had done so, which had resulted in Josie's conception.

They had finished, and Rose lay next to Jack, who's arm was tightly around her waist, pulling her closer to himself. She looked at him and leaned in, touching her forehead to his.

"I love you," they both said at the same time, then smiled.

"Josie's going to be home soon," said Jack, glancing at the clock. "We should probably get dressed."

"You're right," Rose smiled. It was strange that Jack was here with her. He hadn't been for a while, but she had to stop saying that it surprised her, since it upset Jack. After all, he was already so full of regret about missing the last sixteen years.

Jack and Rose got dressed. Rose was wearing her pajamas, and so was Jack. They sat downstairs watching television, when Josie walked in. She looked different. She looked the same, her outfit, hair, and makeup were the same. And yet, something was different.

"Josie?" Rose asked, noticing her expression.

Josie sniffled. "We broke up."

Rose stood up and walked over to Josie. She put her arms around her and Josie leaned her head on Rose's shoulder, and started to cry. Rose stroked her back and then looked at Josie. "What happened?"

Josie pulled out of the hug and looked down. "He… he just didn't want to be my boyfriend anymore. That's all." She walked away and Jack and Rose followed.

"That doesn't make sense. You guys were inseparable. He wouldn't just take you out for a fancy dinner just to break up with you. Tell me what happened."

Josie was too preoccupied to be listening to her. She took a box out of her closet and started putting some things in it. First her teddy bear, then her bracelet.

"What are you doing?" Rose asked.

"I'm making a box. Of all the stuff Dean liked, touched, looked at," Josie said without stopping what she was doing. She picked up a blue dress and put it in the box.

"The dress I made for you?" Rose pouted.

"I wore it to the dance with Dean. So it goes." Josie sealed the box. "Here." She handed the box to Rose.

"What do you want me to do wth this?" Rose asked.

"Throw it out, burn it, I don't care. But I don't want it here anymore."

"Okay," said Rose. "If you're sure that's what you want."

"It is," said Josie laying on her bed facing the other way. "Now can you go?"

"Sure," said Rose, "I'm sorry." She and Jack left the room.

Jack sat back down on the couch, and Rose turned back to make sure that Josie wasn't looking, before putting the box in the closet. Jack saw her do this. "But I thought-"

"It's not what she wants," said Rose. She sat down next to Jack. "Someday, she's going to want these things back. And she'll have them when she's ready. Trust me, I threw away a lot of things when I was younger that I would want now. At least I made that mistake before you. Then I was finally able to make a Jack box."

"So, you have a Jack box?" Jack asked.

"Yeah, I did. I mean, there wasn't much in there. Wait a minute." Rose stood up and walked back over to the closet. She took out a box and rummaged through it. "This is it."

Jack looked through the box and pulled some of the things out. "The dress from the sinking… the lifejacket… Hockley's jacket…" There was only one thing left in the box. Rose took them out quickly.

She showed them to Jack. "My pregnancy tests from when I was pregnant with Josie." Jack smiled. She went upstairs and came back downstairs. "And one last thing." She took the item from behind her back.

"Oh my god, is this…?" Jack asked.

"Yes," said Rose, smiling. "The Heart of the Ocean. It used to hold a lot more value to me, but not anymore, since the heart of my ocean is back with me." She placed a hand against his chest.
