Chapter 8: Jason
How Minos had the nerve to challenge them to fight the Minotaur baffled Jason. How Annabeth had convinced them to agree baffled him more. The group had been sent to a large arena under the throne room. Jason drew his lightning bolt. Sparks flew off the blade. Beside him Annabeth had drawn her daggers and Leo's hands had become balls of fire. A pair of large steel doors were situated on the wall of the arena. A creak echoed across the arena as they slowly swung open. The Minotaur entered the battlefield. Equipped with a large bronze axe the monster stood over three metres tall. Its black fur covered rippling muscles. Its head was that of a bull, but with razor-sharp teeth and black horns. The creature unleashed a roar that could have been heard on Olympus itself. Jason was shocked that Percy had been able to defeat this same monster at the age of eleven. He charged the beast, knee-sliding under a swing from the axe. Out of the corner of his eye he could see Leo blast the Minotaur with a fireball. Annabeth plunged her daggers into the monster's knee. The beast collapsed onto one knee. Tyson wrenched the axe out of its hand, tossing it out of reach. The cyclops followed by punching the Minotaur's other knee. Jason winced as he heard the bones crack and shatter from the impact. Leo jumped onto the creature's back, wrapping his arms around the thick neck. The son of Hephaestus engulfed its face in flames, temporarily blinding the monster. Jason seized his chance. Sprinting towards the beast he fired a bolt of electricity at its chest. He rammed his weapon through the Minotaur's chest. The Minotaur screamed in agony and writhed in agony. It fell onto its back, dead. Jason looked up at the arena's spectator box to see a scowling Minos.
