Chapter 30

Rory watched her mom walk out of the room with Logan right behind her, talking in hushed tones. She could hear him apologizing for how the evening had turned out and it made her love him just a little bit more. He was her other half that was for sure, and she was so thankful that they had worked through the issues of the past and moved forward. It was hard to believe that they were married and expecting twins, let alone that he of all people was playing mediator between her and her mother.

After Lorelai walked out of the front door, Rory let out a breath she didn't even realize she had been holding and a sense of relief rushed through her. Immediately after the sense of relief though she was hit with an overwhelming pain going across her stomach. She could feel all the muscles tightening and it was like a premenstrual cramp but about 10 times stronger. This wasn't good, she was only 32 weeks, she shouldn't be feeling this right now.

Her face must have shown her fear, because when her wide eyes met Logan's he came rushing over to her side. "Rory, what is wrong?! What is going on? Talk to me!" his words rushed out, and his eyes looked panicked but he was trying to maintain his composure.

Rory looked at his face, trying to form the words when another contraction hit her full force. "Logan, something is wrong. We need to get to the hospital." One of her hands grabbed her stomach and the other went to his shoulder as she doubled over.

Logan yelled for the maid to get bring the car around while he was guiding Rory to the front door. He grabbed their coats and wrapped hers around her shoulders; and just as they were getting to the door, it happened. Her water broke and the fluid drenched her leggings, making a small puddle on the floor between her feet. Their eyes met, they both knew this wasn't good, but both were trying to remain calm. "Logan, I think my water just broke. My water can't break! I am only 32 weeks! The babies aren't supposed to come yet! It is too early Logan, it is way too early!"

Logan guided her over to sit down. "I believe it did sweetheart. But it will be okay. We are going to get you to the hospital, and our babies are going to be just fine. They are strong, they are survivors just like their mom and dad. Now you sit down right here and I am going to run upstairs and get you some sweatpants okay? So you don't have to wear those leggings any longer." With that he dashed upstairs and into their room, grabbing the first pair of sweatpants he saw, then by sheer luck saw the hospital bag Rory had packed just the day before and grabbed it as well.

Logan came running back downstairs and was in the foyer just as the front door opened and the maid announced that the car was waiting for them out front. He quickly thanked her and went to Rory's side to help her to the car.

When they got to the hospital Rory was quickly taken to labor and delivery with Logan right by her side. There was nothing the doctors could do to stall the labor since her water had broken, doing so would put her at risk for infection and threaten the babies lives; so instead, they were preparing for a birth. A birth that was happening well before anyone expected it to. This was not a part of her birth plan! She wasn't supposed to be having them yet. It was definitely too early.

Her internal spiral was cut short by another contraction rocking her body with pain; just as the doctor came running in, her assistants helping her get her scrub cap and gown on.

"Good Evening Mrs. Huntzberger, I hear we are having some contractions and your water broke. I am just going to check you real quick and see where you are at."

Rory could tell by the look on the doctor's face that it was not what she expected. "Okay Rory, on this next contraction, I am going to need you to push okay? I can see the head of one of the babies, they are really ready to be here." She looked up as she finished her sentence and made eye contact with Rory. "I know you are scared, I know you think it is too soon. But I promise you, we will do everything we can for these little ones. Right now I need you to focus on getting them here so we can do our part okay? Can you do that for me?"

Rory kept her eyes locked with the doctor and nodded her head, just as another contraction flooded her body. She bore down and pushed as hard as she could, her eyes closed and her chin tucked into her chest. She felt a short lived relief as the contraction faded, and her body relaxed for a moment; but it was quickly overcome by another contraction. "That's it Rory, good job Mama!" her doctor cheered her on as she felt the most immense and overwhelming pain she had ever felt in her life.

Just when she thought she couldn't bear the pain for another second, she felt a slight relief and opened her eyes just in time to see her tiny little daughter be held up for her and Logan to see. "Well your girl is here Rory, and she is beautiful. But they are going to need to get her in the warmer and down to the NICU okay? I know you want to hold her but right now I need you to focus on getting your little guy here okay?" Rory nodded her head and tried to stay strong through the tears that were rolling down her cheeks.

She felt Logans hand in hers and his lips gently brushing her forehead. He leaned in and whispered in her ear "You got this Ace. You got this, we are almost there. You're doing great." She gripped his hand hard as another contraction hit her like a mac truck and she pushed with everything she had in her. She pushed through the pain and the tears; each contraction seemed to come faster than the one before, and every time it racked her body, she pushed. Finally, after what felt like eternity, she felt the pressure release, and she knew he was here. She opened her eyes and saw the doctor lift up his tiny body to show her, and she only got a glimpse before he was whisked away just like his sister had been.
