About You Now
Miranda Cosgrove
Daphne can only hope she hasn't made a horrible mistake DG/GW
Maybe I'm wrong, you decide
Daphne was running.
She had the body of a runner. Long, lithe legs and a natural affinity for cardio. She was a fantastic runner. She could sprint or she could run for days.
She also never ran. Her friends knew if she was running then they should be too because it probably meant someone was chasing her.
Should of been strong, yeah I lied
Right now, she was running. She wasn't running from anything. Today, she was running towards someone.
Nobody gets me like...you
For over a year, since the Yule Ball, Daphne Greengrass and George Weasley had been more or less a couple. Somehow Daphne had ended up in a relationship with him.
Well, it wasn't really a huge mystery because Daphne had been actively pursuing him since she started school. She had known the Weasley family for years and had long since enjoyed hanging out with the Weasley twins. She was closer in age to Ron and Ginny but for some reason, she connected best with George.
So school had started and she had been sorted to Slytherin. She and Ron had drifted apart a little after that but when Ginny came to school the two of them were thick as thieves. When Ginny started acting strange during her first year, she was the one who raised the alarm with Ginny's brothers.
Couldn't keep hold of you then
She hung out with George and Ginny and Fred in their free time. Fred and George helped her get great grades in Charms and Potions while Ginny was her go-to for History of Magic and Defense Against the Dark Arts.
She did everything she could do to make herself a part of the Weasley clan, even asking Hermione for help with homework and essays and helping Harry with the occasional Quidditch practice. She became trustworthy and when the Tri-Wizard tournament started, she helped out as much as she could, both with Harry and Cedric.
How could I now what you meant
Then came the Yule Ball and there was George, with someone else.
Her world had seemed to collapse. Angelina and George, dating, dancing, looking so happy.
It was like the end of everything. Everything she had worked so hard for. Everything was up in smoke.
There was nothing to compare to
Until...
Angelina broke off the dance and came over to Daphne. "Hey. He's all yours."
"What?" Daphne stuttered.
"Get in there," Angelina said with a twinkle in her eyes.
There's a mountain between us
And that was it. By the end of the next day, they were officially dating.
The year was beautiful. Daphne was never so happy. Even the following year couldn't completely stop her good feelings. Umbridge was terrible but then there was Dumbledore's Army. Everything was as close to perfect as it was possible to get in school.
But there's one thing I'm sure of
So, naturally, Daphne had to fuck it all up.
That I now how I feel about you
She was not entirely sure how it happened. It wasn't all her fault but George probably had much less to do with it than she tried to convince herself.
Oh, sure, he was planning to leave school. Was leaving later today, as a matter of fact. But had he bothered to say anything to her? They'd been dating for a year and he was just going to blow it all off because of Umbridge.
Granted, she felt the same way about that cow. She and Ginny often jokingly called her Umbitch but there was more than a little bit of truth to it.
Can we bring yesterday back around?
But was that enough to blow off school for? It may be a second rate education under Umbridge but the rest of the the teachers were picking up the slack. Even Snape was giving them more relevant, more defensive potions. McGonnagall kept sneaking dark arts defense into every class, sometimes while Umbridge was right there.
Even Flitwick kept deliberately leaving books on offensive charms, charms that bordered on DADA around, usually right in either Daphne or Ginny's path.
Cause I know how I feel about you now
So it wasn't a perfect education and yes, the twins were getting into trouble left and right but Daphne was always there for George and Fred too, however he needed her to be there. Fred usually just went on, venting his frustrations and blowing up potions which Daphne and George helped him fix.
George usually just needed her to be there, either holding his hand or sitting beside him with her head on his shoulder. She knew he liked these random acts of affection. They were like marks of ownership but she rarely did them in public. She wanted to save all of her loving for him and somehow that felt better in private.
I was dumb, I was wrong, I let you down
So she was happy. Not the happiest she could ever be but happier than she had been in recent memory.
Which was probably why, when George announced he was leaving school, she sent him the letter.
But I know how I feel about you now
As soon as she sent it, she wanted it back. She knew exactly what she should have done. She should have talked to Ginny about it and, once calmed down a little, gone to see Fred and once he calmed her down even more, finally talked to George about all of her concerns.
But she hadn't done any of that.
Instead, she'd poured out every ounce of vitriol in her soul onto a paper and sent it off to him.
All that it takes, one more chance
And now, she was running.
She had woken up this morning, knowing full well that in a few hours, Fred and George would be leaving Hogwarts and that her letter was probably sitting on George's desk or on his bed.
Her only hope was that he hadn't read it yet. She hadn't put her name on the envelope but she had signed it on the inside. Hopefully he was waiting to read it until he left.
Don't let our last kiss be our last
She ran out of the dungeons. She passed Ginny and Luna who were on their way to the potions lab. Ginny looked at Luna and Luna at Ginny. With a shrug that could mean everything or nothing, both girls dropped their bags and started running after Daphne.
She ran up and into the main corridors. She passed Harry who pushed his glasses up his nose. He saw her run by, followed by Ginny and Luna. Bag and school robe went to the floor and Harry followed them.
She ran through the corridor, past the statue of Godric. Ron and Hermione, who for once were not arguing, stood by the statue, talking about the comparison of Quidditch and futbol. They saw Daphne run by. Even before they saw Ginny, Harry and Luna, the two had dropped their bags and, probably without realizing it, grabbed each other's hand and started running.
I'm out of my mind, just to show you
Daphne ran out and onto the front lawn.
Fred and George were there, brooms in hand, conferring. Their show in the Great Hall had been a few minutes ago. Daphne had missed it but she understood the gist.
Typically, Fred and George couldn't seem to agree on their next move. When it came to pranks, they were perfectly coordinated but when it came to real life, they never could agree on a single thing.
"But if we go straight home, Mum will know what's happened," Fred was saying when he caught sight of Daphne.
She didn't stop, just ran straight up to them, taking George down in a tackle worthy of American Football.
I know everything changes
Fred stepped back and looked down at them.
"Did I miss something?" he asked.
I don't care where it takes us
"Tell me you didn't read the letter," she demanded.
George opened his mouth then closed it again before answering. "I read it."
She stared down into his brown eyes and knew he wasn't messing with her. She started to get up but he captured her hand and used his elbow to kick out hers so she flopped back on his chest. He shifted around, presumably to a more comfortable position and when she trusted herself to look at his face again, he was smiling a sweet, fond smile.
Cause I know how I feel about you
"I was mad," she said.
"You had every right to be," he pointed out. "And I'm sorry."
"You're sorry? I'm the one who acted like an infant, sending you a letter that was just me trying to be mean."
Can we bring yesterday back around?
He reached up to cup her head. "You weren't trying to be mean. You were pointing out my flaws."
"But it was selfish."
"I didn't think of you," he said.
"You didn't have to." She had thought about this a lot since sending the letter. "This is your life, George. And you don't have to consult me for-"
"Do you think I should leave school?" he asked.
Cause I know how I feel about you now
It felt a little surreal to be having this conversation on the lawn like this but she couldn't think of a better chance for it.
"Yes," she said, surprising herself. "You and Fred, there's really not that much else you can learn. You were always meant to be business men. You just need to find the right store and set up shop and the rest will come. Everyone here already loves you and there will be more kids where they come from."
I was dumb, I was wrong, I let you down
"Then we agree on that," he said.
She started to get up and this time he let her though he held her hand and followed her to her feet.
She stood there, unsure what happened next. Fred was grinning and she had the feeling he wouldn't have minded if she and George had made out in front of them.
"Get a room, why don't you?" he asked.
But I know how I feel about you now
"Shut up," George said with a grin of his own. He looked around and his eyebrows went up. "Did you have to bring half the school for this?"
Daphne looked around, surprised to see Ginny, Harry, Ron, Hermione and Luna standing at a close distance.
"Hey, guys. What are you all doing out here?" she asked.
Not a day, pass me by
"We followed you," Luna said as if it were obvious.
"For what it's worth," Ron began. "Mum's going to freak but I think she kinda always saw this coming with you two."
"Actually she told me she expected the two of you to blow up an entire wing of the school before you got out alive," Hermione confided.
Not a day, pass me by
Then everyone was crowding around, hugging the twins and offering them best wishes and, in Hermione's case some advice and mild admonishments. Daphne started to step back but George pulled her off to the side a little.
"There's one thing more thing about your letter that I wanted to talk to you about," he said softly.
When I don't think about you
She gulped. It was her last statement. She had penned it angrily but it made it no less true.
"I do think about you," he said. "And I constantly think about our future. But..."
"There's no future for you here," she prompted, reaching up to smooth his hair around his face.
"That's not what I was going to say," he said.
And there's no moving on
"Really?"
He grinned. "Okay, so I was going to say that. But I was also going to say that whatever future I have, I want you to be part of it."
She felt her own grin growing and she kissed him before they both looked like Cheshire cats.
Cause I know, you're the one
"Get a room you two," Fred said again.
George laughed, his chest rumbling softly against her own where she pressed against him.
And I can't be without you
"What about you two?" Harry finally said, indicating the twins. "Do you have everything?"
"We're going to pay you back that loan," Fred said. Daphne knew about it. She had almost made out with Harry when she found out he'd given the TriWizard money to the twins for their 'start-up'.
"I told you, you don't need to..." Harry began but Ginny, Hermione and Daphne all shot him glares.
"Uh, I meant we won't need to worry about interest. I'm not looking to start a bank here."
Can we bring yesterday back around?
"Besides, you can give us a discount on products," Ron said.
"Ronald, you don't need to be..." Hermione started and she and Ron looked ready to disintegrate into arguing but Daphne cleared her throat and they broke off.
Cause I know how I feel about you now
"He needs to just shag her already," George whispered into Daphne's ear and she giggled.
"But seriously," Ginny said in an obvious effort to get this all underway again. "Is there anything else you guys need?"
George looked down at Daphne and she tipped her head up for one last kiss.
I was dumb, I was wrong, I let you down
"Actually," George said. There was a definitely mischievous look in his eyes. "There's one last thing I need."
Without warning, he scooped Daphne up in his arms. Before she could do more than yelp in surprise, Fred had a broom ready for him.
"As if I'd leave without you," George said, getting on the broom.
"This is kidnapping," she said.
"Only if you don't want to go," he said, starting to relax his grip. She circled his neck with her arms.
"As if," she replied and kissed him.
But I know how I feel about you now
With the sound of their friends cheering them on, George and Daphne lifted off and flew into the bright afternoon.
But I know how I feel about you now
Yeah I know how I feel about you now
