Sitting on the bed, Rosalie played with the hem of her dress, sighing in boredom and worry. She had paced the length of the cell, splashed her face under cold water and tried to tell herself that it was out of her control. Everything was out of her control now. Steve would sort this. She knew that he would. He would not leave her here. She didn't know how long had passed before she heard the door open again. Moving to her feet, Rosalie walked to the bars, holding onto them as she watched to see who was coming.

"Wanda!" Rosalie exclaimed as she saw the young woman being pushed into the room, followed by Sam. Looking over to Rosalie, Wanda felt a sense of desperation as she saw the young woman who had been her confidant during the past few months of adjusting to normal life.

"I'm sorry," was all that Wanda could say as she was pushed into a cell.

Rosalie watched as Sam was afforded the same courtesy and then two other men were brought in. She recognised Clint instantly and her heart instantly went out to Laura. Did she know where her husband was? The other man she didn't recognise at all, but he was talking to the guard, voice low and comments sarcastic.

"What happened?" Rosalie dared to ask when they were all alone. They could just about see each other from their own cells. Clint had gone to sit down, head buried in his hands while Sam remained stood, prepared to tell Rosalie what had happened.

"We figured that Bucky had been brainwashed by whoever the doctor was that day he escaped the facility," Sam informed her. "Steve stopped Bucky from escaping and we took him to some abandoned warehouse and he said that the doctor who had been there had said some words to make him revert back to his old self…like he could be programmed to become the Winter Soldier. He told us about the base where he had been kept with others. He thought that the guy who did all of this would be there…to awaken all of the other Winter Soldiers. Steve and Bucky managed to get to the jet and escape."

"Escape?" Rosalie questioned him.

"Stark was there," Sam said. "He had everyone else, apart from us, with him. We all got caught and Bucky and Steve went off to looking for the truth."

"He said that he would come," Wanda said and looked to Rosalie, catching her eye. Wanda tugged on the sleeve of the blue jumpsuit she wore. "Steve said that he would turn himself in for you when this is all over."

"But what about you?" Rosalie wondered.

"Sorry, sorry, sorry," the man who Rosalie had never met interrupted, hands shaking as he stepped forwards and looked to Rosalie. "But are you his fiancée? Captain America's fiancée?"

"Well, Steve's fiancée, yeah," Rosalie corrected. "Rosalie Jonson."

"Wow," he whispered. "It is an honour to meet you. I'm Scott Lang. I helped your fiancée in the battle."

"His superpower is that he can become very small," Sam said, voice dry.

"Well," Scott said, trying to think of how he could expand on that. "Yeah, I guess it is," he said, clearly stumped. "But still, you're engaged to Captain America. What is that like? I can't imagine him in a domestic setting. Does he cook?"

"Listen, Scott," Rosalie said, wondering if this was Steve's number one fan. "When we get out of here, I will tell you everything about Steve and his life, okay? I'll even have you round for dinner to see it first hand. I just think, for now, we should focus on finding a way out."

"There is no way out," Clint finally said, looking around at all of them. "They have locked us in here and that is it. Who will let us go? We worked outside the law."

"Tony…he won't let you stay here," Rosalie said. "And Steve…he won't let them."

"It isn't going to happen," Clint said. "And the sooner we accept that then the better. It is going to take a miracle to get us out of here."

Rosalie heard Clint bang on the glass of the cell out of frustration and she looked to Wanda. She saw the young woman move to sit on the floor, curling into a ball. Each one of them looked defeated. Their faces had cuts and bruises marring them and they looked exhausted. They looked defeated. Rosalie went to sit back down, clinging onto the side of the bed and bowing her head. It wasn't long before they heard the door open again and this time Stark walked in.

Clint clapped loudly, praising Stark for coming and saving the day. He said how the hero was here. Moving over to Clint's cell, Rosalie couldn't hear them talking, but she didn't care what they were discussing. He walked around, finally taking to Sam. The two men whispered in hushed tones and Rosalie looked as he passed by her cell.

"I'm working on getting you out," he promised her.

"And the others?" she asked.

"I made a mistake," Stark admitted to her. "I'm going to help him. I promise."

"Thank you," Rosalie said.

Stark scoffed. "You shouldn't be thanking me," he said. She really should not be thanking him.

Rosalie wanted to go home. She had been informed that it had been over five days since they had been locked away. No one had come for them. No one had come to tell them what was going to happen or what they should do. Rosalie was shocked that even Stark hadn't made contact. They were confined in their cells at all time. Rosalie had insisted that they be allowed to at least shower after the third day. Individually, they had been escorted to a shower room and given ten minutes. Rosalie had stood under the warm water and cried, finally alone and able to admit that she was scared of what was going to happen.

"Did you hear that?"

Clint was the one who asked and they all stood up, moving to the front of their cells. It sounded like loud grunting noise. A scream rang out and told them that something was wrong. Rosalie stumbled backwards, a sense of fear overwhelming her as Wanda watched her, prepared to try and use her powers if she had to do.

"Something is off," Scott said.

The door opened then and they prepared to see what was going on. They had no reason to panic. Rosalie felt herself grow overcome with emotion as she saw his face slowly appear in front of her, illuminated by the dim lights. Entering the room, Steve looked around at the five of them that had been locked away. Steve let his eyes settle on his fiancée as the doors opened, Bucky having been the one to destroy the electrics.

He moved towards her first as they all looked around, slightly in awe of what was going on. As soon as the glass was open and the bars disappeared, Rosalie stepped forwards, needing to get out. Steve was in front of her instantly, arms around her waist and hauling her against him as she wrapped hers around his neck. Picking her up from the floor, he held her tightly, one hand snaking up to cup the back of her head.

"I am so sorry," Steve whispered to her. "Rose, I am so sorry."

"You're here now," she responded. "You're back."

Steve let go of her, letting her drop to the ground as she stood before him and he ran a hand over her cheek. "You're safe," he promised her. "I will never let anything happen to you again."

"Any of those romantic sentiments left for me?" Sam asked and Steve smiled, hugging his friend tightly.

"Unfortunately there's only one girl for me," Steve said. "You alright, Sam?"

"Been better," Sam admitted.

Rosalie moved over towards Wanda and looked at the electronic band that was around her neck. She sighed to herself and helped pull it off of her. She moved to embrace Wanda, holding onto the young woman tightly as Wanda wrapped her own arms around her. Rosalie kept her in her grip, knowing that Wanda was relieved.

"It's alright," she promised her.

"I know what has happened has been tough," Steve said to his friends and Rosalie kept an arm around Wanda's shoulders, looking at Steve as he addressed everyone. "And I am sorry for dragging you into all of this, but things have changed. They cannot go back to how they were…we cannot be the same."

"So what happens?" Clint wondered, arms folded over his chest.

"We part ways," Steve said and Rosalie noted Bucky at the doorway, loitering behind, clearly cautious. "It is down to you what happens. I have assurances that if you want to return home…to families…then you can. You will be under house arrest, but you will have a normal life."

"And you?" Sam asked Steve.

Steve pursed his lips and looked to Rosalie, his eyes fixed on her and he knew what he was asking her to do was too much. It was far too much and he had no right to ask it of her. He felt sick at the thought of it.

"There is no deal for me," Steve said. "I have to leave. I have to go on the run."

"And where will you go?"

"I have been offered refuge by Prince T'Challa in Wakanda," Steve said and Rosalie felt her head turn light at that piece of information. Chewing down on the inside of her cheek, she nodded once. She understood what this meant.

"We don't have much time," Bucky informed Steve. "We need to go."

"I'm coming with you," Sam said, voice confident. "There's nothing for me here or back at home. I may as well go and see a new country."

"You're sure?" Steve asked.

"Positive," Sam responded.

"I have to take the deal, man," Clint said with a shrug of his shoulders. "I have a wife at home and kids. They need me."

"Ditto," Scott agreed, "not the wife thing, but the kids…not even the kids, but the kid. I need to go for her."

"I completely understand," Steve said and embraced both of them.

Looking to Wanda, Rosalie stood in front of her, holding her shoulders. "What do you want to do?" she asked her, voice low as Wanda nodded her head once.

"I…I don't want to live on the run," Wanda admitted. "I feel like I have lived under constant watch for too long, though. I cannot go back to that. I cannot cut a deal and go back to that life. I want to come. I want to come to Wakanda."

"You're sure?" Rosalie checked.

"Positive," Wanda said and Rosalie squeezed her hand.

"The alarm has been raised, Steve," Bucky said to his friend. "We need to get out now."

"We're off," Steve said and looked at Clint and Scott. "They will cut you a deal when they arrive, I promise."

Leaving Clint and Scott behind, the five fleeing fugitives began to run off. Steve loitered behind, holding his hand out to Rosalie. She took hold of it and looked up to him as they finally came outside, the air fresh and clean. Stepping onto the jet, Steve told Bucky and Sam to get them out of there before looking to Wanda who took a seat on one of the chairs.

"We need to talk," Steve said to Rosalie as they took off.

Sitting down at the end of the jet, Steve kept hold of her hands inside of his. He let a finger run over the engagement ring she wore and he only looked up when Rosalie pressed her forehead to his. Leaning in, she kissed him slowly, her lips moving over his as she savoured the moment. He closed his eyes and enjoyed the feel of her once again, relief coursing through him that she was safe. Pulling back after a few moments, he moved again, shrugging out of his jacket and draping it over her shoulders. Pulling the lapels of it around her, he kept hold of it.

"Rose, I know that this is not ideal," Steve said to her. "None of this is ideal. We built a life in New York together…and I promised you so much. I promised you a future. I promised you a life together, but not like this, not on the run…hiding in shadows. You deserve so much more."

"Steve, none of that matters," she promised him, voice low. "And we can have that, can't we? We can be together."

"But do you want it to be like this?" he asked her. "Rosalie, I cannot ask you to give everything up. You have parents…a job…you have the chance to return to normality. You can go back to New York and Tony will make sure that S.H.I.E.L.D. never bother you again."

"Go back to a life without you?" she asked him. "You want me to go back and…what…move on from you? Steve, do you think that I could do that?"

"I want to give you the choice, Rose," Steve said to her. "I feel guilty at the thought of asking you to do this."

"Hey," she said, managing a soft smile. "You're stuck with me, Steve. After everything we have been through, do you think that I would abandon you now? Steve, I intend to stand by you through everything. Nothing will make me leave you now."

"You're sure?"

"Positive," she responded. "But I need to make sure that my parents will be okay. No one will go after them, will they?"

"I will make certain of it," Steve said. "Leave it to me, Rose. I promise you they will be fine."

"Thank you," she said and leaned in to kiss him again.

He smiled softly as she pulled back. "You know, I'm going to have to make you my wife someday soon. You're too good to risk me letting go."

"Well, I might just let you do that," she smiled back and Steve wrapped his arm over her shoulders as she nestled against his side, wondering what would await them in Wakanda.
