Love Song For A Vampire
Annie Lennox
When the man you love is slowly draining you of everything you let him because you love him. Ginny/Tom
Come into these arms again
and lay your body down
"Oh, my god. If he paid attention to me I think I would just die."
"I know! You know when his hair falls over his glasses like that?"
"Oh, my god. And he's such a bad boy. When he got those points taken away from Gryffindor?"
Ginny sat at the table, trying to listen and not listen at the same time. She found it hard to focus. It had become increasingly hard to focus the past few weeks.
The rhythm of this trembling heart
All she wanted was for Harry to notice her. She had tried very hard but it seemed doomed to fail. And there were so many other girls that liked him too. And everything she had tried hadn't worked.
Is beating like a drum
'What should I do?' she wrote in her diary.
The words disappeared and a moment later were replaced. 'He's not the only man in the world,' Tom wrote back.
It beats for you it bleeds for you
That was true, Ginny thought. She closed the diary. In some far off corner of her mind, she wondered if she should be using the diary at all. But it all made sense.
She wasn't sure who had given her the book. She had opened it, figuring it was just stationary from Mum with instructions to send letters frequently.
Except it wasn't.
It knows not how it sounds
The first time Tom wrote back, she almost threw out the book. In fact, she buried it under her pillows and tried not to think about it.
She wanted to throw it out but then she had done a little bit of research. Some of the stores in Diagon Alley sold crystals that could offer advice. Maybe they had gone into books? It made sense.
For it is the drum of drums
"I know he's not the smartest, but have you seen him on a broom?"
"Oh, my god! He's to die for when he's out there!"
"Did you see that last game? He had that amazing save."
"I know, right?"
Ginny rubbed her forehead. Her head was bothering her again. It felt like it did when she didn't get enough sleep. Which was silly. She slept like the dead these days. Which was a little weird too.
it is the song of songs
She had always slept softly and been quick to waken which her brothers gave her a hard time for and often tried to play tricks on her. It rarely worked because of how easily she woke.
But now... Now she slept hard and yet woke up feeling like she hadn't slept for days.
And she kept having bad dreams.
She couldn't remember dreams like this. They were just snatches but they haunted her. She had thought about talking to someone about it but the twins hadn't gone into Divination and Percy had but he was impossible to talk to.
And for some reason, she didn't want to talk to Tom about this.
Once I had the rarest rose
Somehow, she knew that Tom was not what she thought he was. Months ago she had been sure Tom was just some 'artificial intelligence'. Now, she wasn't so sure. Tom seemed too...aware.
So why couldn't she stop talking to him?
She looked down at the diary. Why hadn't she thrown it out?
That ever deemed to bloom
She knew damned well why she hadn't. Tom understood her. He sympathized. He told her what she wanted to hear. And he listened. Not like her brothers, not like her friends, not even like her parents. In a world where she felt like just another Weasley, Tom made her feel special.
But she wasn't dumb. The poor sleep, the bad dreams, the content of her dreams...it had to be connected.
She should destroy the diary.
Cruel winter chilled the bud
Ginny stood in the bathroom, staring down at the diary. When she looked up into the mirror, it was not her reflection there but Tom's.
"What am I doing?" she asked. She was pretty sure this was a hallucination.
"Something silly," Tom said. "Ginny, be reasonable."
"This is either a hallucination or madness or more advanced magic but whatever it is, I'm done."
And stole my flower too soon
"Ginny, you can't quit me anymore than I can quit you," he said. "Now, don't do anything childish."
If there was one thing Ginny despised, it was being treated like a child. And that was exactly what Tom was doing. So, although she didn't want to and although she loved him or thought she did, she turned and pitched the diary into the nearest stall.
When she looked back, the mirror had only her own reflection, smudged and dirty in a warped looking glass.
Oh loneliness Oh hopelessness
Ginny sat on the floor of the Chamber, blood on her hands and the diary in front of her.
She toyed with the diary for a moment then flipped it open.
Inside of an instant, Tom was standing before her.
"Ginny," he said. He smiled but he looked a little disappointed.
"You were expecting Harry," she said but it wasn't a question.
To search the ends of time
"Yes," Tom said. "I was."
"We're done with lies?" This time it was a question.
"Might as well be," he said. He pushed back his robes and studied her. "What do you think is going to happen?"
For there is in all the world
"You're going to kill me," she said. "Use me to somehow open the Chamber of Secrets for good and kill everyone who isn't pure blood."
Tom looked at her approvingly. "Cleverer than your brother. Not that that says much. Smarter than Potter too, when it comes down to it."
He tipped his head to the side. "You don't seem very concerned. You don't think I'll kill you."
She didn't, but maybe that was just optimistic.
no greater love than mine.
"I know that even if you kill me, you'll never get out of here," she said.
"That sure of Potter?" If he was trying not to sneer, he did a poor job of it.
"No," she said. "Let's say I've taken measures."
Love o love o ... still falls the rain
Again, Tom's look was appraising.
"Now what have you done, little one?"
"I sealed the chamber," she said.
"There's no way to seal the chamber," he said.
"Unless you speak Parseltongue," she pointed out.
Love o love o ... still falls the night
"You borrowed that?" he asked.
"Stole, borrowed, accommodated. Take your pick."
"What do you expect to happen now?" he asked. He moved closer to her and she tipped her head back to look at him.
Love o love o ... damned forever
"You can kill me," she said.
"Why? Because you beat me?"
"No," she said. "Because I love you."
Let me be the only one
"Love," he repeated. "What do you know of love?"
"More than you, Tom."
He knelt on the floor before her and she kept eye contact. He was so good looking and he was so like Harry. Harry if Harry had turned cruel. Harry if Harry were taking lessons from Draco Malfoy.
To keep you from the cold
"I am going to kill you, Ginny. But I do appreciate when I've lost," he said. He reached out to cup her face with one hand. "I'll make it as painless as I can," he muttered.
Now the floor of heaven is laid
Ginny tipped her head up and was a little surprised when he kissed her. She'd had kisses from her brothers and her parents but never a kiss like this. It wasn't just that she loved him or that it was her first kiss.
It was almost sweet and a little tender and as everything turned black and cold, Ginny held onto that.
The stars are bright as gold
Tom looked down on the sleeping girl. He wondered why he hadn't killed her right off. He was strong enough now.
Of course he wasn't trapped down here. Ginny might have sealed the entrance but anyone who could speak Parseltongue could reopen it. It was virtually impossible that Ginny was strong enough to seal it permanently.
So why not kill her outright and wait for Potter? It would be worth it to see that look on the boy's face when he realized he wasn't strong enough to protect the people who trusted him.
They shine for you, they shine for you
They burn for all to see
Tom knelt at the girl's side and brushed back that crimson hair. Merlin she reminded him of someone. Someone from his youth. From before the journal.
She thinks she loves me, he thought.
Again he combed his fingers through her hair then shook his head. Really, he should just kill her.
But instead, he took a seat beside her and waited for her knight in shining armor because sure as sunshine, Potter was going to come and try to save her. It seemed only fitting that he give the boy a fighting chance.
Come into these arms again
And set this spirit free
A/N: Just a quick Ginny centric story. I haven't been super motivated lately but I promise to keep updating as much as I can!
