Here is the third chapter of the Siegfried Arc and there is still more to come in this arc. This chapter will mostly cover some drama issues, and then at the end of the chapter, someone will make things bad.
This is why I gave this chapter the title "Marks of a Traitor". Even though there won't be much chaos in this chapter, STILL READ AT YOUR OWN RISK. I do not own Pokémon.
Fuchsia City-Pokémon Center
The Pidgey were resting on separate beds while Pidgeot was laying down on a big bed. All Pidgeot needed to do was rest and take a few vitamins before being able to get back up.
They were grateful that the Pokémon weren't hurt, just exhausted. Unfortunately, there were tears coming from Pidgeot's eyes as she can still remember the events of what happened.
Nurse Joy allowed Sherri to tend to the Pidgey to see if there was anything wrong with them, but they turned out to be just fine. While Nurse Joy knew nothing was wrong with them, she figured this was a great opportunity for her to get a chance to care for some Pokémon.
Claude stood there with his arms crossed while Sycamore and Sophie were there with him watching from the glass. Claude had to admit that his wife was doing such a great job.
"That's my wife in there," Claude said pointing to Sherri.
"You mean the brown hair woman helping Nurse Joy?" Sophie asked.
"Yeah, she used to groom Pokémon until an accident took place which encouraged her to change professions," Claude explained as he wasn't going to go into detail, "By the way I haven't introduced myself, my name is Claude."
"Pleased to meet you Claude, I'm Augustine Sycamore and this is my wife Sophie," Sycamore said introducing himself.
"It's great to meet you, and I must say your wife is doing pretty good in the Pokémon medicine department," Sophie complemented as she shook Claude's hand.
"I wouldn't say that, this is just simple standard things. I haven't seen her yet do completely complicated stuff," Claude told Sophie, "She's just shadowing Nurse Joy so she can learn more."
Sophie liked what she heard from Claude. Like his wife, Sophie also has the skills to help heal Pokémon.
"Me and my wife love Pokémon, but we never took the professions of becoming trainers," Claude told the Sycamores, "I for one used to be a ranger who goes out and protects Pokémon."
"Well that had to be a great experience. You love Pokémon so much and you even tend to look out for them," Sycamore complemented.
"You can say that, but the truth was my job wasn't completely enjoyable mainly due to my boss. He was against me whenever I wasn't in my assigned area, and all I wanted to do is go beyond and help look out for the Pokémon," Claude explained.
This had to be a bit gloomy to hear for Augustine and Sophie that his superior ridiculed him for going beyond and not doing his assigned assignments.
"Not to mention most recently we found a Munchlax in our areas, and his first suspect was that belonged to Team Rocket because it wasn't from around here. He eventually tried to kill it," Claude explained.
"Really?" Sycamore questioned in shock.
"Yeah, and while Munchlax did get away, I found where it ended up going. Knowing what kind of person my boss was, I refused to tell him where he went," Claude explained until he showed a dark look on his face, "Eventually, the word got out that I knew where Munchlax was living. He dismissed me for going against him."
"That wasn't fair," Sophie muttered.
"Of course, it wasn't, all I was doing was protecting Munchlax from my boss who was trying to kill him, and I get punished for it," Claude uttered, "He would only appreciate me if I did my job and followed my assignments."
Sycamore and Sophie can't help but feel sorry for Claude. They have heard about Team Rocket on the news and how infamous they were for their crimes with Pokémon and how they even can be considered a terrorist organization. No one was even aware that none of the Pokémon would ever want to be part of that organization.
"If anything, I think your boss might be a problem," Sophie sighed with her arms crossed.
"I agree and so does my wife, maybe getting fired was the best thing to happen," Claude muttered, "But I don't know what I'm going to do now."
"Well you can go in and see the progress Pidgeot is making with the help of your wife," Sycamore suggested.
"This is mostly Nurse Joy's doing, she's just looking after the Pidgey," Claude said looking through the window, "I'm going to guess those are her babies."
"Well, you're her husband and you got an honorary regional professor with you who should give you access," Sophie said.
"Honorary regional professor?" Claude questioned.
"Yeah, I'm not sure if you've heard of me, but I'm the Pokémon professor of the Kalos Region and I study Mega Evolution," Sycamore stated.
Well Claude had some respect for this man already. He and his wife have heard of Mega Evolution, but never seen it.
"We'll talk more about this later, right now why don't you see Pidgeot," Sycamore suggested as he went to the door where a Chansey was standing in front, "Excuse me, do you think you can let this man in. He's Nurse Joy's shadow's wife and I thought he could be with her."
Chansey happily nodded his head and gave Claude access into the room. Claude informed Chansey and Nurse Joy that he wouldn't interfere with anything and they were alright with it as long as he kept his word.
Claude approached the Pidgeot. He could see that she was still resting so the former ranger kept his distance. Pidgeot began to open her eyes and looked at her surroundings. She was hoping her vision could be completely adjusted as she saw what looks to be a familiar looking man.
"Pidgeotto," Pidgeot responded.
Claude smiled to see that Pidgeot was waking up. Looks like she's regaining her energy.
"How are you feeling?" Claude asked kindly.
Pidgeot even recognized that voice. Her vision adjusted and even though he looked older, she still knows him despite the circumstances. However, one thing that she needed to know about were her kids.
"Pidgeotto," Pidgeot responded with a little worry.
"Don't worry, your babies are safe," Claude told Pidgeot as he gestured to the sleeping Pidgeys.
Pidgeot looked to the side and saw her children sleeping peacefully. Pidgeot smiled as she knew that at least they were alright and in good hands.
"Hey everyone, Pidgeot is waking up," Claude called out.
Nurse Joy and Sherri walked on over to see Pidgeot. Pidgeot was exhausted from all of that flying, but at least she was regaining some strength.
"Take it easy Pidgeot, you'll be out of here soon. Right now, I would advise you stay here for the night," Nurse Joy told Pidgeot, "I promise you and your babies are in good hands."
Pidgeot nodded with relief, but then she turned to Claude. Claude has now noticed that this Pidgeot has been interested in him for some reason.
"This is strange, it's almost like this Pidgeot knows me," Claude thought to himself.
Nurse Joy and Sherri noticed it as well. There was something about Claude that drew this Pidgeot's interest. Why was this Pidgeot interested in Claude?
"Well this is interesting, it seems you interest this Pidgeot honey," Sherri said, "But why?"
"That's what I'm wondering," Claude responded.
Claude was looking Pidgeot in the eyes. Her eyes were locked onto Claude's. Claude was starting to see the look on Pidgeot, and then all of a sudden, it felt like he was looking into her mind. Pidgeot was feeling compassion for this man, but Claude didn't understand why.
Then after taking some time looking at Pidgeot, Claude's mind suddenly clicked, and a memory came flowing back into his head. He couldn't believe, but he has a feeling he knew who this was. He wanted to ask Pidgeot just to be sure.
"Have we met before?" Claude asked.
"Pidgeot," Pidgeot answered confirming yes.
"Was it a long time ago where you were separated from your parents and I helped you reunite with them," Claude asked as there was a pause.
"Pidgeot," Pidgeot answered confirming yes as well.
Then there was a dramatic pause as what Claude believed was true. It was her it was really her.
"Claude?" Sherri questioned.
"Is something wrong?" Nurse Joy asked.
"This Pidgeot remembers me, it's the same one that I helped when she was lost," Claude confirmed.
The two women gasped in shock. Sherri heard the story about a Pidgey he helped, but was scolded at by Shepard for not, following orders. Was it really true that Claude has reunited with the Pidgey that was lost many years ago?
"Is it really?" Sherri questioned.
"I'm most positive it is," Claude answered as he looked back at Pidgeot, "I can't believe you remember me."
"Pidgeotto," Pidgeot explained.
Pidgeot was now speaking in her language, and while Claude doesn't speak Pokémon, he could understand what she was saying.
"So, you never had the chance to thank me and you're thanking me right now?" Claude asked.
"Pidgeot," Pidgeot answered confirming yes.
"You're welcome, I was just doing my job back then, and I'm sorry my boss had to ruin the moment with him screaming at me," Claude said.
It hurt Claude that Pidgeot and her parents never got the chance to appreciate Claude. He was just doing a good deed, and then that cold hearted man had to come in and yell at him for not being where he was supposed to be. Claude then looked over at the Pidgey who were peacefully sleeping.
"You've come so far since that day," Claude said.
"Pidgeot," Pidgeot sighed.
She would've been happy right now, but she wasn't because of what just happened recently. Does he know about Siegfried yet?
1 hour later
Once Sherri got herself a break, she, Claude, Professor Sycamore, and Sophie all sat down in the cafeteria. No one was aware that Calem was in the cafeteria as well as he was getting something from a vending machine. It was unknown why he was here.
Claude told the story to Sycamore and Sophie about the Pidgey he rescued and how the heartwarming moment was ruined by Shepard scolding him. The professor and his wife felt disgusted when they heard what Shepard did. They were also surprised to know that the Pidgeot they just brought in was the same one Shepard helped a long time back.
"That was a good thing you did Claude," Sycamore said as he drank a cup of coffee.
"I don't care what your boss thinks, you did the right thing and helped that Pidgey," Sophie said, "She might have not been here right now if it weren't for you."
"You know Claude, I think Sophie made a point," Sherri said looking at her husband, "Despite what Shepard did, you might have saved her life."
Claude smiled when he heard what his wife said. She was right, who knows what could've happened if Claude didn't come to that Pidgey's aid. Claude did want to be a person who helps Pokémon out, and that day he did. Now she was here today, and she was a mother herself.
"You might be right dear," Claude said smiling.
"I know I am, who have I known all these years who loves to look out after Pokémon," Sherri said as she gave him a hug.
"Judging by everything we've heard, you're almost like Red," Sycamore said.
"You mean the great Red Ketchum?" Claude asked in amazement.
"That's right, he always had a kind heart towards Pokémon knowing what would benefit them and how he can make them happy. It was those bonds he created with those Pokémon that made him one of the greatest trainers in history," Sycamore explained.
"And speaking of Red, we actually flown from Kalos here to Kanto to visit his son and his girlfriend," Sophie explained.
"You're meeting Red's son?" Claude asked.
"Well I've heard he's Red's son. You see he has a Frogadier and his girlfriend has a Braixen that me and Sophie used to care for back in the lab in Lumisone City when they were a Froakie and Fennekin," Sycamore explained.
This got Claude and Sherri a little confused. They knew who the starters were in Kanto, but those Pokémon they heard of were not found in Kanto, but in Kalos.
"A Frogadier and a Braixen?" Sherri questioned.
"Yeah, they have grown under the care of those two but lately we've heard that they weren't acting right as if they were scared, which is why we came here," Sycamore stated.
"You've come to see trainers who has Pokémon you two used to care for?" Sherri asked.
"We'll tell you the story," Sophie sighed.
2 minutes later
In the past two minutes while the adults continue to drink their coffee, Sycamore talked about the eggs that were found after Siegfried came by almost five years ago in Kalos. He even mentions how those eggs hatched in the hands of Ash and Serena after a scavenger hunt, how Siegfried appearing in their surroundings made them feel afraid of the world, and then how they decided to let Ash and Serena take them in as their starters because they were the only humans for some reason they were comfortable with.
It was a heartbreaking tale for the couple to hear of how those Pokémon were messed up and how the care of Sycamore and Sophie weren't enough. Claude heard before he was fired that Siegfried was probably going to be coming to Kanto to do more Pokémon killing, and it had to surprise him that the sadistic hunter was the same one who killed those Pokémon's families.
"I really hate Siegfried," Claude muttered.
"So, it makes sense why those two Pokémon are acting like that," Sherri said in disbelief, "Their past was creeping up on them."
"And now he's here in Kanto doing who knows what," Sycamore said as his head was hung down.
"Not to mention that Ash and Serena are somewhere caught in that area with Lance of the Kanto Elite Four helping out," Sophie grieved.
So, the reports were true, Siegfried was in Kanto and Lance of the Kanto Elite Four was going to be involved along with the rest of Claude's old work friends. He wonders how Pedansky and the rest of the rangers are going to fare with this hunter around. He then turned around and remembers what Sycamore told them about Pidgeot. It was one thing meeting a Pokémon he helped a long time ago, but now he understand why Pidgeot and her children were coming.
"I think I understand why Pidgeot and her children came here," Claude said, "They were fleeing from Siegfried."
"Well they should be thankful they got away," Sycamore uttered, "Not many Pokémon tend to get away from him."
Claude can't help but look out the window. His old work friends right now in the middle of trying to save the Pokémon from that evil hunter. Probably more Pokémon would die out there if they were forced to follow Shepard's rules of conduct.
"I wish Shepard didn't fire me," Claude muttered, "I would've wanted to go in there and beat the living crap out of that psychopath."
"You would've tried to take on that hunter?" Sherri asked in horror.
"Well yeah, somebody like that doesn't deserve to live. Who knows how many Pokémon is bastard has killed!" Claude explained, "And not to mention what Augustine and Sophie told us about two Pokémon those kids have that are scarred for life, and now will probably be even more scarred or worse, killed!"
Claude could feel his blood boil. It just makes him angry that someone like that is out there doing this to Pokémon of all kinds.
"Siegfried is a monster, not only does he kill Pokémon for fun, but the ones who survive take a severe emotional toll," Claude explained as his face turns grim, "I'm surprised that Frogadier and Braixen we've heard of haven't committed suicide yet."
"Well we can't go through the east entrance to Fuchsia City because the police force are guarding it in case Siegfried comes in," Sycamore stated.
Sherri then took a good look at Claude. The will to look after Pokémon was the reason they fell in love. She knew somewhere deep down she would think her husband wants to go out there and take on the hunter. Sherri now had a look of determination.
"Claude, do you want to get out of here and go after that hunter?" Sherri questioned.
Claude's eyes widened when he heard that. Sycamore and Sophie felt shocked when they heard Sherri say that. Sherri was bettering herself to heal Pokémon, but to actually fight for them like her husband. She really did love him.
"The truth is, yes I do," Claude answered, "But I can't because I was fired."
"Who says who have to actually work for them to fight Siegfried. You want to look out for Pokémon and here is your chance. You can even show that Shepard that he made a mistake letting you go," Sherri said with encouragement.
"Sherri, I was fired because I didn't follow orders, not because I was weak," Claude stated.
Sherri recalls what Claude said, but then she remembers what he told her about.
"Well you bent the rules to reunite that Pidgey with her parents, and you for the time not told anything to Shepard about where Munchlax was so he can live peacefully. Who says you need to actually be on the clock to fight this monster!" Sherri exclaimed.
Claude's wife was right. He didn't to actually be certified with a job to take on this maniac, he just needs to have the skills, mindset, and heart to bring this evil thing down.
"You're right Sherri," Claude said as he stood up, "I'm going out there to bring that son of a bitch down and out of this world!"
He raised his fist with complete determination. His wife then grabbed his fist and Claude could see she had a warm smile and a brave face.
"And I'll fight with you," said Sherri.
"Really?" Claude questioned.
"It's for the Pokémon," Sherri told Claude, "I'm sure our kids would see us as heroes."
"Well then if you two are going to fight Siegfried, then count me in too," Sycamore declared, "He already has an impact on us with Frogadier and Braixen, and what better way to help them open up for good than to get rid of him."
"Well since you guys are going in, I guess I'll be joining too," Sophie announced, "But let's think of what we're going to do."
"Sophie's right, we can't just run up to Siegfried and fight him. That's suicide. We need to figure out what we can do," Sycamore stated.
So, all four were going to take their chances and fight the evil hunter. Claude looked over at the door where the Pokémon were staying. He can recall Pidgeot being in there with her children.
"Don't worry, I'm not planning to jump head-first into the hunter," Claude said, "We'll think of a plan. Right now, let's check in on Pidgeot and wait until she's at full strength."
"Good idea," Sherri said, "And besides, I just realized my break is almost over."
Well the four adults can agree on one thing, it was going to be a tough battle. Sycamore and Sophie just hoped Ash, Serena, and the rest of the Pokémon were alright.
Pokémon Center in the forest
It was the late evening as the sun began to set on this dark day. The Pokémon Center was not seeing much business as Ash and Serena were the only trainers staying in. Right now, Serena was in her room alone while Ash just sat on the sofa with his arms crossed and a frustrated look on his face.
He was not on speaking terms with his girlfriend as of now. Once he heard of what Serena did in Lavender Town of giving the trio the ghost Pokémon, it made him sick to his stomach. Sure, they may have had that moment trying to get off the sunken ship, but that was in the past and they were pretty much forced to work together.
Rotom Dex was looking at Ash right now. Never has Rotom Dex seen Ash look so angry. The floating Pokedex hovered by Ash's side.
"Ash, have you calmed down?" Rotom Dex asked.
Ash glared at Rotom Dex where its screen turned into a frightened face.
"No, I haven't," Ash growled, "What kind of person would go out of their way to help criminals?"
While Rotom Dex has served Ash and Serena mostly for Pokémon information and serving as a map, it was still a living creature since a Rotom was in there. The floating Pokedex figured maybe it was time to be a figure they could talk to.
"Ash, I'm not happy for what Serena did, but she may have her reasons," Rotom Dex told Ash, "Imagine it was you who was in Serena's position."
Ash continued to look at Rotom Dex furiously, but Rotom Dex kept a stern face or screen.
"Think of it, you came across criminals and have something they want, and those criminals would be killed by their higher ups if they failed to retrieve it," Rotom Dex told Ash, "What would you do in that situation?"
"Easy, I would not give it to them and have them punished for what they've done," Ash answered, "Or if those higher ups come around they can kill them."
"Ash!" Rotom Dex exclaimed.
"What, they asked for it. They deserve it for taking the path of crime and evil," Ash said, "When you go down that path, you have to pay the price."
Rotom Dex looked down in despair. Sure, the trio works for Team Rocket and they do need to be locked up for their crimes, but they're still human beings who have feelings. Ash has no clue what is going on behind closed doors in Team Rocket, and Serena might have somewhat of a clue.
"Ash, Serena wasn't being some sort of a traitor. She was showing something to them called mercy," Rotom Dex stated.
"Mercy?" Ash questioned.
"Yeah, think of it Ash. Truly evil people don't show mercy to anyone, but good people like you and Serena have the nature of showing mercy," Rotom Dex told Ash.
Ash narrowed his eyes at Rotom Dex, what does he mean by mercy?
"From what we heard from Serena, if she never gave up the ghost Pokémon to Jessie, James, and Meowth, they would probably be killed by their men," Rotom Dex explained.
"Well they probably are dead, and Team Rocket got what they want," Ash spat.
"You don't know that!" Rotom Dex yelled, "The point is she showed mercy to those rockets, something the rockets never show. Even if they were killed by their higher ups anyway, it shouldn't take away from Serena trying something at least."
Ash didn't like what Rotom Dex was talking about. Why is this floating Pokedex defending Serena like this? Ash was thinking to himself that she shouldn't be defended in any way.
"The point is when you show mercy to your enemies, then they can rethink their life choices. If they continue their evil ways, that's up to them. But at times, they can actually change," Rotom Dex explained, "I'm not saying those rockets are guaranteed to change or live, but at least Serena has given them that opportunity. Who know Ash, you could be right, and she can doom us all, or she could get rewarded for her actions, but only time will tell?"
Ash couldn't believe how wise Rotom Dex was. Maybe Rotom Dex did have a point. Ash may hate criminals, but not caring for their well-being may just be as low as if he became a criminal himself. Knowing that this was his girlfriend who did this, it became hard to process.
"I'll give you time to think it over," Rotom Dex calmly said.
Rotom Dex floated away and Ash just sat there thinking. The truth is he loved Serena, and if he did love her, he has to accept her mistakes as long as she grows from them. Ash was going to call home and rat her out what she did, but after the talk with Rotom Dex, he figured that maybe he should keep his mouth shut and not say anything. If anyone should confess about that, it should be Serena herself. The only time he should say something is if things get bad…or they were about to die.
Deep down, Ash couldn't stay mad at Serena forever, and throwing her under the bus like that wouldn't help. She already was dealing with too much, and Ash didn't want to make it worse. Ash was going to take the time to understand everything.
The truth was, he wanted to get out of here with Serena so they can work look for their Pokémon together.
Serena's Room
Serena has spent the last couple of hours laying on her bed crying. Braixen was missing with Siegfried roaming the area, and Ash was now angry at her after he heard about Lavender Town. Her hat was laying on the floor as her face was buried in the pillows.
The honey-blonde coordinator has been an emotional wreck for nearly the entire day. There has not been any relief for her with the events going on. Right now, she actually did want to be alone. Then a knock was at the door.
"Who is it?" Serena asked while muffled.
"Rotom Dex, I would've opened the door myself, but I can't get a grip on the door," Rotom Dex answered.
Serena raised her head up and took a deep breath. She wiped her eyes, stood up, and walked on over to the door to open it. Serena looked to see that it was Rotom Dex with a frown on its screen. Serena was too humiliated to show herself after confessing what she did.
"Can I come in?" Rotom Dex asked.
Serena hung her head down and took a deep breath. She already got Ash to hate her so it can't get any worse.
"You can come in," Serena muttered.
Rotom Dex floated inside as Serena closed the door. Rotom Dex could see that Serena looked like a total wreck after all the drama that took place. She was worried for Braixen, she was worried about her relationship with Ash, and the floating Pokedex didn't know how much more she can take.
"I just had a talk with Ash," Rotom Dex stated.
"What horrible things did he say about me?" Serena asked while muttering.
"Actually, I talked to him. I told him how you were showing mercy to the rockets," Rotom Dex said.
Serena now had a bewildered look on her face. What did Rotom Dex know about mercy? Serena took a seat on her bed with Rotom Dex floating next to her.
"Listen Serena we're not grateful for your actions, but you had your reasons," Rotom Dex said.
"Yeah, they told me that if the next time Jessie, James, and Meowth saw Proton, he would kill them because of their failures. If I gave up the Pokémon to them, then maybe Proton would've spared them," Serena explained.
"And that's what you did, they were your enemies and you showed mercy to them," Rotom Dex said, "Proton or any of the other rockets wouldn't show that to you or any of their team members. It shows what kind of a good person you are."
Serena thought Rotom Dex made a good point. While Rotom Dex wasn't fond of what Serena did, it was right that those rockets finally saw the good in them and that she didn't want anything bad to happen to them. After all, the higher up rockets attempted to kill her moms and Ash's mom and aunt back in Celadon City without warning, and even though Jessie, James, and Meowth had a part in it, they admitted that they were only following their superiors orders and it wasn't their idea.
"Don't tell anyone else about what you did, but don't be completely ashamed of it. Maybe you could be rewarded for your actions one day, and maybe those three rockets will now have the chance to see the light and change their ways," Rotom Dex explained.
"But it won't get them out of Team Rocket or away from them," Serena sighed, "Even if they get arrested by the police and get locked up."
Rotom Dex understood what Serena was saying. Maybe Serena's actions weren't going to save them, or they weren't going to get a second chance because of those other rockets. Maybe it would've made things worse, but at least Serena showed she cared for their well-being unlike the other rockets.
"Well you did what you could Serena. Maybe nothing good will come out of it, but it was better they saw what kind of person you are," Rotom Dex said.
As Serena listened to Rotom Dex, she could know where it was going with this. Serena did prove herself to be the better person towards the trio, but not in a good way. She didn't do this to go against the good guys and help Team Rocket, she did this in order to keep three rockets alive. She just hoped Ash would understand that.
"I talked to Ash and I hope he could understand what you were going through," Rotom Dex said as it looked out the window to see it was getting dark, "Right now, why don't you just get come rest."
Serena looked out the window and then she looked at the door. She wasn't sure if Ash was ready to talk to her, and they were ordered to stay in the Pokémon Center until further notice. Maybe getting some sleep would help.
"Okay," Serena sighed.
"That's my girl. Remember, if Ash truly loves you, then he'll forgive you for what you've done. If you really do love someone, then you have to accept what they've done," Rotom Dex said.
Rotom Dex began to float to the door to leave Serena alone. Then the floating Pokedex forgot that it can't open doors. Rotom Dex chuckled and rubbed the back of its head.
"Serena, a little help," Rotom Dex said jokingly.
"Not a problem," Serena responded with a slight giggle.
That was the first sign of positive behavior coming from Serena, but it was a small shred. Serena stood up and walked over to the door. She kindly opens it for Rotom Dex allowing it to get out. Rotom Dex says goodnight to Serena before Serena closes the door with Rotom Dex on the other side.
Serena walked over back to her bed and laid down. She wasn't crying anymore as the talk with Rotom Dex did make her feel a little better. Still, she can't stop worrying about her relationship with Ash, and more importantly, she can't stop thinking about Braixen.
Serena hoped that she and Frogadier were okay. But all she can do now is hope.
Inside the grotto
It was getting dark and all the Pokémon were gathered around Frogadier and Braixen as they were telling them the stories about their Pokémon journeys with Ash and Serena. They included everything from the gym battles Ash won, the contests Serena competed in, and even talked about the Pokémon Ash and Serena have caught including Pikachu and Rotom Dex. They even talked about their encounters with Team Rocket.
While all the Pokémon were listening to their stories, they made sure to pay attention to their surroundings as well in case anyone were to come inside. Snorlax was intrigued by Frogadier's and Braixen's tales, but it was Munchlax who enjoyed the stories the most. He was meeting the Pokémon who actually traveled with Red Ketchum's son.
"So, traveling with Ash Ketchum has to be amazing for you," Munchlax said with excitement.
"It truly was, he really helped me open up to the outside world that it isn't filled with just him," Frogadier told Munchlax as he referred to Siegfried, "I'm telling we all love Ash, he's the kind of person I want to be with, and all of the other Pokémon can agree."
"It's true, Frogadier has tended to even pity himself when he loses a battle for Ash. I can even say the same for myself when it comes to Serena," Braixen explained.
Snorlax was listening in on the conversation and smiled to what he was hearing.
"I must say, this Ash Ketchum sounds like a great person," Snorlax kindly said.
"He is, he cares for Pokémon like they're his own little siblings. He always knows what we and the other Pokémon want, and he gives it to us," Frogadier explained, "For example, Ash has a Pikachu that both he and his girlfriend care for and always wants ketchup."
All of the Pokémon laugh after hearing that. They can believe that they really are having a blast with Ash and Serena. All of the Pokémon can wonder what life would be outside the grotto.
"You guys really have enjoyed yourselves with this Ash Ketchum," Snorlax said.
"I have," Frogadier said.
As Frogadier looked onward at Snorlax, Munchlax was reminded that his father is the son of a Snorlax owned by Red Ketchum. Frogadier can recall Ash's behavior when it comes to his dad. He usually tries to not think about it when his name comes up, or else he rants as how much he hates him. This was due to the fact that his father has not been around for five years.
Frogadier curiously watched that Snorlax. If he was the son of a Snorlax that Ash's dad had, maybe he might know a little about his father and shed some light on him. After all, everyone they have met on their journey has hailed Red as some sort of hero, including his mother who hasn't seen him since he left.
"Hey, Snorlax can I ask you something?" Frogadier questioned.
"Sure, what is it?" Snorlax asked.
"Do you know anything about Red Ketchum?" Frogadier asked.
Snorlax tilted his head when he heard that. The truth was that he has met Red Ketchum before leaving, and his parents were able to tell him stories about Red.
"As you know I've heard from Munchlax that you know were connected to a Pokémon that belonged to Red Ketchum. The truth is Ash doesn't tend to say good things about his father. We all think it was because he left him and his mom a couple of years ago for unknown reasons. Although everybody still says great things about him including the close friends of his father," Frogadier explained, "If I happen to see Ash again, I want to know if there is a way I can shed some light on Red Ketchum. What better way than to hear it from an actual Pokémon who happened to be an offspring of a Snorlax owned by Red."
All of the Pokémon looked in shock when they heard that. Did Red Ketchum really have a family only to leave them without a reason? Snorlax was a bit bewildered when he heard that. But there was no way he could make Red seem like a bad guy.
"Well, you say that Ash always cares for his own Pokémon like his own younger siblings or his own children, am I correct?" Snorlax asked.
"That is correct, me and the other Pokémon that Ash has, who are also my friends, have become stronger thanks to his dedication and hard work towards us. That is what pushes us to become stronger not just in power, but in emotions," Frogadier explained.
Snorlax smiled.
"He really is Red's son after all," Snorlax said.
"I know he is," Frogadier told Snorlax.
"Because the times I have seen Red, that is exactly what he did with my father," Snorlax told Frogadier.
"Really?" Frogadier questioned.
"Indeed, he cares about you as a living creature and wants you to grow up to become big and strong like the rest of the Pokémon so you can look out for yourself," Snorlax explained, "And more importantly, he also wants you to be happy. If Red knew my father wasn't happy with him, Red would accept his wishes and let him back in the wild."
"So Red was kind of like Ash," Frogadier said in amazement.
"He was and knowing that he wanted him to be happy as well, Red was able to find him a mate that he could fall in love with," Snorlax explained, "It's thanks to Red Ketchum's actions that allowed him to find love, and it's the reason I exist."
This really caught Frogadier's attention that Red was truly just like Ash. It was clear now that there could be no way Ash would leave him behind with Siegfried around. Something must've gone wrong why he and Serena along with Pikachu, Rotom Dex, and the rest of the Pokémon disappeared.
5 minutes later
Snorlax then went on about how he was able to find his mate and make an egg that would consist of Munchlax. He even mentioned his horrible encounter with Team Rocket and how they killed his mate. Frogadier and Braixen hung their heads down when they heard that from Snorlax.
"So, after my mate's death, I took Munchlax's egg and tried to find a place to live in peace. It was then I found this grotto and it looked well hidden. I decided to live here and raise my son here so that we don't get spotted by anyone, especially that horrible Team Rocket," Snorlax told Frogadier and Braixen, "But I have tended to get lonely, so as time went by I've welcomed Pokémon here to live in peace and we've started a little civilization here."
The two Kalos starters looked around and saw all the Pokémon who have been huddling up. Going all the way back to the past, this refugee for Pokémon along with Munchlax's existence. The main root of all of this was Ash's father Red. Red did make a positive impact to his world, and now Frogadier can't help but feel like he has the best trainer out there. Braixen could say the same for Serena, but she can believe that she became like this because of Ash.
Frogadier then turned to Munchlax and gave him a warm smile.
"No wonder you're a huge fan of Red Ketchum," Frogadier said, "Hey maybe when this is over and we find Ash, I can actually introduce you to him."
Munchlax stood there looking a bit blank. He couldn't even process what Frogadier just said to him.
"Really?" Munchlax asked in excitement.
"Yeah, the truth is I want to see I can at least shed a little light on his father, and you could be a good example," Frogadier suggested.
"But how, what can I do?" Munchlax asked feeling a little worried now.
"Well, we have something that can translate Pokémon language into plain human language so you can tell them the story about your dad," Frogadier suggested.
"If you're trying to have Red's son show at least some respect to Red, then maybe you be taking them to my dad and let him tell the story because he actually has met the man," Munchlax explained.
"But then we could be exposing this place to outsiders, and even though we can trust Ash and Serena, I think it would be best to respect your privacy," Frogadier explained.
Frogadier did have a point, he didn't want his home to be shown to the wrong people. Those rangers almost found this place when Munchlax went out for an adventure, so it was wise not to take that chance. Then Munchlax thought of something.
"I could always bring dad over," Munchlax suggested.
"That could work," Frogadier said.
As Frogadier smiled and put his hand on Munchlax's shoulder, Braixen watched over holding her hand over her heart. Frogadier has shown that he can be a caring and forgiving Pokémon. Not only is he is trying to get stronger for Ash, but now he wants to make Ash stronger himself.
Her feelings for Frogadier have grown over the course of their journey. He really was starting to become a bit like Ash. No wonder Serena fell head over heels for him. Heck, she can recall Ash falling head over heels for her because she was becoming more like him. But Ash and Serena grew up in Pallet Town together for three years while she and Frogadier grew up with Professor Sycamore.
They've always had those little crushes with each other, but now they have grown closer, and they've been together through this whole crisis. Braixen wasn't sure how this would end, but she wanted everything to be okay. They weren't going to give up until this was over, like the motto Ash has been reciting all the times. However, in case the worst does happen, Braixen doesn't want to die with any sort of regrets.
Braixen was going to tell Frogadier about how she felt about him.
Out in the forest
It was dark outside, and the rangers were still on patrol. So far they have found more Pokémon carnage laying all over the ground. Right now, Pedansky was with a group of rangers pulling a dead Fearow out of a branch as it was impaled by the branch.
It's wings were cut off and the branch went through his torso. Pedansky had some gloves on and with a disgusted look on his face pulled the dead Pokémon out while the other rangers had flashlights on to keep an eye on him.
"Siegfried, what the hell caused you to become twisted like this?" Pedansky questioned while talking to himself.
The rangers opened another body bag and Pedansky upsettingly placed the dead Pokémon into the bag. Right now, other rangers were still searching for Siegfried while Lance tried to aide many Pokémon as possible to safety.
"This is ranger Shepard reporting, over," Shepard said on the other end.
Pedansky looked down at his walkie talkie and picked it up.
In another part of the forest
Siegfried was now roasting one of the Fearows he killed. While he always leaves a Pokémon's dead body behind, he does tend to take some for himself so he can cook dinner since he would always be out in the wilderness killing Pokémon. Most of the times he would either cook a dead bird Pokémon or a dead fish Pokémon since they were the best kind of Pokémon hunters would eat.
Siegfried finished roasting his Fearow and picked it up and began eating it like a barbarian. While everybody claims him to be a monster who goes out to randomly murder Pokémon, which he is and he does, no one ever takes the time to wonder how someone like Siegfried could come into being. Even Siegfried himself never thought about it, he just thinks about killing Pokémon.
Why did he decide to go out and kill Pokémon for no reason? Why does he kill Pokémon in particularly the most gruesome ways? What does he plan to achieve in killing Pokémon? Was there anyway this behavior could have been prevented? Well it didn't matter as he killed so many Pokémon that he went beyond the point of no return.
Murdering Pokémon is what motivates him to live. Siegfried doesn't even tend to look back because he is too engulfed in killing Pokémon.
Elsewhere, an older man spotted Siegfried eating the dead Fearow. It was Shepard who was on his walkie. The cold-hearted ranger finally has come across the evil hunter himself.
"I've spotted Siegfried in the north-western part of the area," Shepard whispered.
"Alright, we'll get our forces to come in and assist you. Don't attack until we arrive," Pedansky said on the other end.
"Negative, this is not your area Pedansky," Shepard argued.
"Ranger Shepard, you need all the help you can get. Siegfried is a dangerous human being and you can't face him alone," Pedansky stated on the other end.
"I don't care, you only patrol your assigned area and Siegfried is not in your assigned area right now," Shepard argued.
"If you won't send me in, then we can have Lance come in," Pedansky said on the other end, "He was called in by the Pokémon League to help out with the crisis."
"Tell him to go home, he is not part of the staff," Shepard hissed.
"Sir, Lance is an Elite Four member and part of the Pokémon G-Men, we cannot dismiss him because then we'll be going against the Pokémon League," Pedansky argued on the other end.
Shepard's face was starting to red with anger. He was trying to go against his boss like Claude did. Shepard did recall that Lance was with a government association, so maybe he should go light on him.
"Alright he can stay around, but the rest of you stay in your assigned areas," Shepard told Pedansky.
"This isn't about having Lance involved, it's about making sure our fellow rangers and the Pokémon are safe. We can't leave you hanging because I'm not in an area I'm not working in," Pedansky told Shepard on the other end.
"When you go against your duties, you're a traitor to all of us," Shepard growled.
"No, when we leave our assigned posts to help someone in need, that's what redeems us," Pedansky argued on the other end, "Just like Claude did. Do you want us to have a bad reputation?"
"Don't mention that name, he already gave the rangers a bad reputation!" Shepard yelled.
Apparently Shepard's anger didn't have him think properly. Siegfried raised an eyebrow and looked behind him to see Shepard on his walkie talkie. Siegfried went into his jeep and pulled out a sledgehammer.
"Look what you've done, now Siegfried is onto me and it's your fault," Shepard uttered.
"No, you were the one who yelled," Pedansky stated on the other end.
The vicious hunter was now holding the hammer and smacked it on his hand like a crowbar. He was approaching Shepard with while growling.
"This is Ranger Shepard signing off," Shepard said.
"Sir!" Pedansky cried on the other end as Shepard shut off the radio.
Pedansky was stomping towards Shepard still holding that hammer. Shepard reached down and got his pistol out ready to fire at the evil hunter. Siegfried was giving a menacing laugh at the head ranger. Usually Siegfried is out killing Pokémon, but he will kill humans on an occasion, only if they get in the way of killing Pokémon.
"You listen here, I'm the head ranger and you are going to get the hell of my property," Shepard told Siegfried.
Siegfried then chuckled when he heard that. This old man was going to just tell him to get lost.
"Really, that's all you're going to do is tell me to leave," Siegfried mockingly said.
"If you don't leave, I'll blow your head off," Shepard uttered as he was holding his pistol.
Siegfried then smiled and used the hammer he wielded to smash his head. Shepard's eyes widened as it showed that his head didn't seem to show a single crack on his head. There was no blood coming out.
"Fuck," Shepard uttered as he put his pistol away.
Siegfried truly was powerful as he showed by smashing that hammer on his head. So, a bullet wouldn't go through his flesh. What the hell was he made of?
"Now you listen here you old bastard, you're not a Pokémon so I won't smash your head open if you agree to stay out of my way," Siegfried told Shepard.
Shepard gave out a huge sigh. How on earth was he going to get him off his grounds?
"Understood," Shepard responded.
"Good, now will you excuse me, I have to regain my strength so I can get back to killing all these Pokémon," Siegfried uttered darkly, "If you or anyone else tries to attack me in my sleep I'll kill you all."
Shepard looked down in anger. How was he supposed to get him out of here? He didn't want to have a bad image if all of these Pokémon were dead. Not to mention Lance was here as well as he would indicate that he isn't capable of doing his job. What can Shepard do to get this psychopath out of here and limit the number of dead Pokémon?
As Shepard watched Siegfried go back to his meal, he then realized something. He fired Claude because he was hiding information about that Munchlax who wondered onto his property and insisted that it belonged to Team Rocket. He also knows Siegfried will be out to kill any Pokémon he sees. With that, Siegfried made sure his walkie talkie was shut off all the way.
"Hey Siegfried!" Shepard called out.
Siegfried turned his face and narrowed his eyes at Shepard. He couldn't tell that Siegfried had his eyes narrowed due to the sunglasses.
"What the hell do you want?" Siegfried questioned, "Get the fuck out of here before I change my mind."
"I will, but I want to ask you something," Shepard told Siegfried.
"What the hell do you want to ask me about?" Siegfried questioned.
Siegfried then began to shake his fist and have a disgusted look. Shepard then smiled and began to ask Siegfried his question.
"During your time killing Pokémon, have you ever come across money of some sort?" Shepard asked.
"Money, of course. I take all the money from those human bastards who try to get in the way. I use it to buy more weapons, more ammo, and repairs on my jeep," Siegfried answered.
Shepard's thoughts were correct, Siegfried does have money.
"And how much money do you have?" Shepard questioned.
"I never keep count of how much money I take, but I say during my days as a Pokémon killer, I might have gained around five hundred-million Pokedollars," Siegfried answered, "I've even come across a few rich people along the way and took their money for myself, not that I need it."
This was interesting to know that despite Siegfried killing a number of humans along the way, he never really uses his victims money unless it comes to the terms of hunting. Shepard then smirked at the evil hunter.
"Well then, I have a proposition for you," Shepard told Siegfried.
This caught Siegfried's attention. Shepard had something in store for this diabolical hunter.
"Okay you have my attention," Siegfried responded, "Make it quick."
"Alright so here's the deal," Shepard replied.
Siegfried finally took his time to listen. He hates listening to others, he just wants to go out and kill more Pokémon.
"If you pay me one-hundred million Pokedollars, not only will I walk away and leave you alone, I will also share you some valuable information," Shepard explained.
"No thanks," Siegfried replied.
"Listen, I was going to share with you where some Pokémon are living where you can have a field day in killing many as you like," Shepard said with a smirk.
"Wait, you know where there are some Pokémon I can kill?" Siegfried questioned.
"Correct, but in return after you killed all the Pokémon in there, I want you out of here or we will take action on you," Shepard stated, "Pay me one-hundred million Pokedollars and we got a deal."
Siegfried's disgusted face turned into a menacing smile when he heard that. That money he didn't need became useful after all. Somebody was giving him information on where some Pokémon were hiding.
"This isn't some sort of trick is it?" Siegfried asked.
"It's not I promise, because we don't stand a chance against you," Shepard answered, "Just pay me and I'll tell you and agree to look the other way."
Siegfried smiled at what Shepard told him. Even if it was a trick, he would obliterate them with no problem since he was unbeatable. Siegfried was going to win no matter what.
"You have a deal," said Siegfried.
"Pay me first and I'll give you the information," Shepard replied.
Siegfried did what Shepard told him and went to his jeep. He looked through his jeep on where he keeps the money. Then he found a whole bunch of dollar bills and tried counting them up, but he was horrible at counting.
"I have a better idea, since I suck at counting money take all of it," Siegfried suggested.
"Really?" Shepard questioned.
"Yeah, I don't need it anyway. Whenever I want something, I just threaten to beat the living shit of them," Siegfried told Shepard.
"Well then if you say so," Shepard responded.
The head ranger walked over to Siegfried's jeep as he just made a deal with Giratina. He saw the money and smirked when he saw how much was in there. This was beyond enough for retirement and maybe get himself a few showgirls for himself. He really did get horny when he sees a hot woman or a photo of one.
Shepard then turned to Siegfried and began to speak. Siegfried was rubbing his hands waiting to hear where these Pokémon were.
"In the southeast portion of this area, there is a giant tree harboring a lot of Pokémon. There is an entrance on the northeast side of that tree that leads into a hidden grotto where you will find all of those Pokémon," Shepard explained.
Siegfried showed that menacing smile once again when he heard that. Shepard just told him where a lot of Pokémon were hiding.
"How many?" Siegfried asked.
"I think a lot, but you should have a field day of killing Pokémon in there," Shepard explained.
"This information was worth every penny," Siegfried said as he looked in his jeep, "Take it ranger, it's all yours."
Shepard began to take the money out of Siegfried's jeep and now he was going to have a lot of money for himself. Shepard was finally happy that Munchlax was finally going to get what was coming to him. He didn't give a damn about what Claude said, he was going to go by his word about keeping Munchlax safe.
He knew that Munchlax was part of Team Rocket and he needed to be eliminated, and as for the other Pokémon in there, it's their own fault for being there with that crumbum Pokémon. The best part about this, he got himself a huge payday as everything worked out for him.
"After this you'll leave right?" Shepard asked.
"As long as you bastards don't do anything, I'll leave you alone," Siegfried answered, "For the time being."
Shepard knew that it was a win win situation for him. Siegfried was going to be removed from the premise, that Munchlax will finally get what's coming to him, and to top everything off, he gets almost five-hundred million Pokedollars out of this.
Now he needed to just think of a coverup.
If you guys didn't like Shepard earlier, then you'll truly hate him now. He was able to talk Siegfried into giving him a bribe to give away where Munchlax and the other Pokémon were living.
That moment will be the big event that will eventually lead to the final confrontation with the evil hunter. How will Frogadier, Braixen, Munchlax, Snorlax, and all the other Pokémon handle Siegfried when he arrives.
As for Ash, is he willing to forgive Serena for her actions with Team Rocket?
Stayed tuned at the next chapter is coming up.
Chapter 48: Sanctuary Lost
