Chapter 69:The Search (Part II)

Fleur waited patiently as her friend finished reading the letter, kindly declining the offer of tea from the house elve serving them brunch. "Well…this isn't what I expected."

At his comment Fleur nodded in agreement, "Things are getting more chaotic since I've received it…this war is spreading."

"Its already here Fleur, I know you haven't gone to any of the Wizengamot hearings but there is talk of war."

"So it iz as Ginny wrote."

"It is."

The veela sighed shaking her head asking, "Do you know which way they lean?"

"Right now it's a stale mate but…as far as arguments go an Ambassador of this New Order of Asylum has made pretty decent ones I don't know how long it will take to sway those against them."

"Then our part must come into play sooner then we thought." Her companion nodded sadly.

Jade paced the area outside the meeting hall the Elders and their pack leader had begun questioning Skyler early this morning before the sun had even fully risen. It was already late into the afternoon and she wasn't the only one curious to know what was going on, since being around the other girl Jade had sensed that she was like them with a beast hidden deep within but…unlike them this one seemed more feral in a sense and it scared her how her wolf reacted to her even stranger the magic running through her veins she could feel a lot more now then she ever could before.

As she moved to make another lap, the doors opened up and the Elders along with their leader Samus walked out Skyler beside him. Everyone gathered awaited what they decided. "She will stay until we come to an agreement of the offer she's made." Samus spoke loudly, "No one is to pester her she is to be treated like anyone of our own until then…Jade." She stepped forward, "Since you found her she is your resposibilty." Jade nodded understanding his order.

With that the crowd disbanded but she could hear the clear whispers of their newest resident even if it was temporary. Skyler made no move to leave the spot she was standing and Jade was unsure whether she should approach or just leave her be for now. Skyler sighed, "You weren't kidding when you said they were going to interrogate me."

"They mean well, Samus has kept our pack safe even before the war but I know it weighs on him what he should do. From what I know…you're the only one who's come with an offer aside from those in white…even then they aren't giving us much of a choice."

Skyler said nothing contemplating but already knowing that's how Jenna has been able to amass so many on her side…and yet it was her the succubus had sent when the offer was refused. She closed her eyes when the tips of her fingers began to prickle with a familiar sensation, and the ghosts that haunted her began again their whispers. Taking deep breaths she tried to calm herself only able to when Jade put a hand to her shoulder, galaxy eyes shot open to the lycan hybrid. "C'mon lets see what your skills conisist of, maybe they'll take your mind from the demons that haunt you." If you only knew…Skye thought.

The pair made a quick stop at Jade's home it was there she retrieved the weapon she had confiscated from her new guest tossing it to her while grabbing her own weapon, a simple one handed, double edged blade. Skyler knew it took its design from an arming sword still its simplicity held a sort of power to it. Looking to her own blade Skyler could tell that just like her it had changed…the handle she had taken the blue wrap in itse place leather worn from use. The tsuba was now a small oval and the blade itself still looked as the day she received the weapon new and gleaming though the designs etched into it glowed that calming blue…

"So it's elven made." Jade confirmed having inspected the weapon while her guest was resting.

"It was a gift."

"Show me how you earned it."

Jayce sat tiredly watching over the camp, despite wanting to help search for her sister she knew it was best to keep their camp just as safe. She was glad that her companions consisted of Hermione, Adam and his group. Ferdinand sat watch on the otherside of camp so that they weren't caught off guard.

"You need to eat." Came the familiar voice of her sister's chosen. A bowl was placed in her hand and she chuckled in thanks.

"I know…I'll take better care of myself on our journey."

"Good, I'd hate for you to return to your wife starved." There was a heavy pause and then, "Why did you decide to come? Why not have stayed in Haven with Diana?"

Jayce chuckled again, "As much as I would have wanted that…it wasn't what was needed." She gave a wistful smile thinking of the woman she bound herself to, "I'm needed here."

Hermione didn't reply instead she took a seat of her own looked out across their camp, her mind had been replaying what had happened over and over again as she internally blamed herself for letting this happen, "I should have…" She stopped herself with a sigh and the shake of her head instead going back to her internal chastisment.

"Anything could have triggered her, she has been through alot I'm sure in the three years you've been apart."

"She's been haunted since before…the Wizarding War. Jenna had captured her and for five months she..endured endless torture…Skye was never truly the same girl I met that summer and yet…"

"Ah.." Jayce mused, "She told me that the moment she first lay eyes on you….she was yours even if neither of you knew it at the time."

Hermione chuckled at the memory of their first meeting. "Skyler is very articulate at times…"the smile she wore grew bitter sweet as all the times they shared previously flew through her mind, they could talk for hours and yet now they held back from ever really going into true conversation.

Sensing the change in the witch's demeanor Jayce gently reponded, "I know she's a sensitive subject to talk about even while here but I'm willing to listen should you ever need a friend." Their conversation ended there and the duo sat quietly eating while lost in thought.

As they sparred Jade knew right away that Skyler wasn't trying her best, she moved mechanically as if afraid to do anymore then the basic training of combat. She herself had easily disarmed and brought each round to an end with a blade held to the throat or heart. In this newest demonstration Skyler seemed resigned to stay with her pattern and so Jade brought it to a pause.

"Why are you holding back?"

"This isn't a real fight."

"Every warrior knows how you train is how you fight, why hold back?"

There was a pause before Skyler stabbed her weapon into the dirt yielding indefinitely, with a sigh the half lycan walked over taking the blade from the ground, "Until you are ready then, c'mon there are other things that you can try."

Jade made a quick stop to put away their weapons before they were off again trying to find something Skyler could help with but everything seemed to end in a small disaster. It was grating on Jade there's no way this girl was bad at such simple things she prayed that their next stop didn't end in a fire as they they were headed to their local black smith.

"Jade good to see you kid, heard you got stuck babysitting." She shook her head with a sigh before noticing that Skyler had walked toward the open forge.

"Hey! That isn't a toy and from what I'v-" Jade shushed Wilson nodding for him to watch instead… the two standing to see Skyler inspect the barely heated broken sword lying on the anvil.

"You know what to do with that girl?" Wilson asked from where he stood studying their newest resident.

Skyler said nothing at least not at first, "You need more then simple iron to reforge this." As she spoke she carried it back to the furnace to continue heating, as she began stoking the fire.

Wilson walked over as did Jade who hung back to continue watching silently. "What do you know about smithing?"

"Enough to know that the blade you're working on isn't as ordinary as you think it is." Wilson turned to Jade with a look she could only tell as impressed, because the blade he was working had been pulled from the dirt in desperate need of repair mainly in due that it was broken long ago…

"We need to keep moving." Bek argued, "Staying in one place for too long is only going to attract unwanted attention we've searched all over this place…she ran like I knew she would." Aaron growled deep in her chest but stepped down when Jayce put a hand to her shoulder.

"I hate to say it but he's right…with everything going on we can't waste anymore time here. We need to at least get to somewhere with walls. The White coats aren't the only dangers wandering around with all this chaos."

Everyone including Bek (especially him) looked stunned at the agreement, despite that Hermione shook her head. "We can't leave her out here…not alone especially now. She'll be too…"she grit her teeth stopping herself from saying what everyone else already knew still it hurt to think about it let alone speak of it.

"Hermione we'll find her…but we need a place to regroup and supply I wont run the group ragged. The mission we have is too important."

Already knowing she lost the argument Hermione said nothing instead walking back to her tent, ignoring the calls of her friends and sat on the bed. Technically the tent was Skye's but they had been sharing ever since Haven, being like this on the run brought back the memories of the wizarding war when She, Harry, and Ronald were on the run moving from place to place worrying about those they cared about most. This felt much like that…with Hermione having no idea how everyone was doing or where Skyler could be…subconsciously her hand felt for the necklace kept hidden beneath her shirt pressing it to the no longer pink mark above her heart. Unbeknownst her causing the the one connected to it to take pause in what she was doing and look down at her own chest in surprise….
