Hey all! This is a small filler chapter that I needed to write for myself and there are things within this chapter that might come into play in later chapters. On a plus note, I do have the next chapter started and know how I want it to turn out, I will hopefully have that up by the end of the week.
We are rapidly coming to a close on season 4, so if there is anything from any of the seasons you want to see, let me know.
Enjoy!
"I never thought that I would see the day," Hunter commented, sitting at a table, waiting on their lunch to arrive.
"I think all the sun got to him," Charlie chuckled. They spent a good chunk of their time at the park goofing off like old times with a football.
"Shut up," Hunter hissed, throwing his straw wrapper at his friend. "I was talking about Wade, not only is he getting married, but he's having a child. Who would have thought after everything we heard and saw from him growing up," he further explained. "That he'd be the first one of us to find his little happily ever after."
"You're just pissed that I beat you to not only the altar but to having a kid as well," Wade chuckled. "I never said I didn't want everything that I have or am about to have; it's been complicated," Wade sighed. For him finding love and everything that does come along with that, it hasn't been easy, and it's something that he denied ever wanting for the longest time. Once he let himself open up to the idea of love, it all came easy and being with Zoe, as much as they've had their ups, they've had their downs, and they've always come out stronger. He's happy with what he has, and he honestly couldn't see his life anywhere else. Nor would he want it to be on any other track than the one it's headed down, full steam.
"I wouldn't say pissed," Hunter sighed. "Just tired of not having that person to share things with," he explained. He's watched his parents in love more each day than the passing day; he's watched his older brother find love; his little sister is in the process of finding love, and he's left standing on the sideline. "Besides, I can still beat you to the altar," he pointed out.
"If you quit playing with the woman who only want one thing and find you someone that wants a lasting relationship, you might get what you want," Charlie told him. He knew how Hunter felt, because that was him just a few short months ago, and once he got his act together; he found what he could only hope is his person.
"You could at least help him," Wade laughed. "Be the wingman he needs, dude."
"You know how Hunter gets," Charlie laughed, shaking his head. "You can't tell him nothing."
"Hunter is sitting right here," he spoke up. "We don't all have it as easy as moving to a new town for a bar or even smashing into them on a morning run," he stated rolling his eyes.
"Then start a morning run or move to a new bar," Charlie commented. Hunter shared a look with him, wanting him to shut up.
"Hold up, what are you two keeping from me?" Wade asked, looking between his friends' suddenly weird behavior.
"Jim sold the bar," Hunter sighed. "The new owner is closing the place."
"Why's he closing it for?" Wade asked, taking his food when the waiter brought it to them.
"He has other ideas for the place, so in two weeks we will be out of jobs," Charlie sighed, digging into his food.
"Well I do have a job for you both, if you find yourself wanting to move away from the big city," Wade commented.
"You know I might take you up on that offer," Hunter nodded. He did often wonder if a fresh start would be good for him, the same way it had been for his best friend.
"I'll pass," Charlie nodded. "I've got my girl here and what I'm hoping is a job lined up," he told them. "But I'll keep your offer in mind," he told Wade.
"I get it," Wade nodded. "I actually think Hunter is a better fit for a small town," he commented. "Nothing against you, Charlie, but I can't picture you living anywhere other than a big city," he explained, not wanting to hurt his friends' feelings.
"No worries there, I get it," Charlie laughed. "It was Hunter who moved to the big city as a kid from some Midwest little town," he teased.
"The other side of the country is looking better and better," Hunter muttered.
"Didn't he have that same response in like the 5th grade?" Wade asked with an amused smile.
"No his response back then was you two suck; I'm gonna move back home to live with my grandparents," Charlie laughed. "And he always came back after visiting them, turns out, he did miss us," Charlie smirked.
"Yeah, not so much miss as I was forced to come back by my parents, I didn't get a say," Hunter stated. "And by the time I could do as I pleased, I had put too much effort into being friends with you two."
"That and all those secrets we have of each other that's going to see the grave with us," Wade stated, shaking his head thinking back to all the times they did things that could have gotten them into deep trouble not only by their parents but the police as well.
"I'll toast to that," Charlie laughed, raising his glass, the other two following his lead.
After their lunch, they went their separate ways, Charlie and Hunter heading off to get ready for work and Wade heading back to the hotel, takeout in hand for Zoe.
He smiled entering the hotel room, seeing his fiancée laying on her side, sleeping. Putting the bag of food in the fridge, he took his shoes off and climbed into bed, wrapping his arms around her midsection, his hand gently rubbing her stomach. A grin spreading across his face feeling the tiny kick from his unborn baby, the feeling still very surreal to him.
