Hey all, this chapter really did write itself. And I know that many people love sharing the gender of their baby, and I have seen others keep it to themselves.
I am hoping to have the next chapter up as soon as possible, I am currently working on it.
Enjoy!
"Hey, babe," Wade sighed, helping put up the baby decorations in the living room. It seemed like a lot of trouble for very little if nothing.
"Yes?" Zoe asked, walking from the kitchen where she was placing the snacks on the counter that didn't need to be refrigerated.
"What is the point of this party for?" He asked, finishing what he had been doing. "I know what a gender reveal party is all about, but why are we having one? We decided against finding out the gender of our little one for now?" He asked, placing his hands on Zoe's stomach, something he found himself doing a lot of the time.
"To have a party," she shrugged. Wade could see through that half a lie, he just didn't call her out on it. She'd crack and tell him the real reason, though he could guess it was to do with their friends and family wanting to know what they were having, and it could be the one way to get them to back of a little. "Because when we do decide to find out what we are having, I want to keep that between us until our little one joins the world. Is that too much to ask for?" She asked him, dropping her head to his shoulder.
"No, it's not too much to ask for. We are the ones having this baby, and no one needs to know," he assured her, because he couldn't find any fault in what she was saying. Why did everyone need to be in anyone's business that way? He's following Zoe's suit here not wanting to upset or stress her out over stupid things like this. He agreed with telling no one, and as much as he didn't understand the reason for the gender reveal, he did it as to not make her upset, knowing eventually, she'd have her way.
"I know it comes off as selfish, but this is our baby and…." Wade cut off everything else she needed to say.
"When it comes to this baby of ours, as the mother you get to be as selfish as you want to be," he stated. "Why don't you go rest, and I'll get everything sorted before the guests start to arrive," he commented, cutting off her protest with a kiss.
"I could take a moment," she nodded, stifling a yawn. "You sure you got this?" She asked, rubbing her stomach as she made her way to the stairs.
"Positive," he confirmed, waiting until she was out of sight before turning and setting himself to work getting the place set up. And by no means was it perfect but for him, it was pretty darn good.
With everything set up in the general area Zoe told him where she wanted things to go earlier that day, he made a quick snack for Zoe, heading upstairs to wake her up giving her time to get ready before the guests are to arrive.
The first game you see when entering the house was a sheet of paper with pink and blue hearts, and each guest needed to place their name on a blue heart if they thought the expecting couple is having a boy or a pink heart for a girl. And the ones with the right colored heart wins the game, but it wasn't exactly that simple for their guests.
The second game for the night is a baby name game, where they had to race to write out as many baby names as they can think of. They already had names for both genders picked out.
The third game for the night was naming the baby food, smelling, look and taste can be used to guess what it is. The labels were taken off and each jar had a number, the food correlating with each food on a piece of paper Zoe put up somewhere.
And once the fun and games were had by all they have little confetti poppers filled with yellow and green confetti, because he agreed with his fiancée about the gender of their little one, and that it isn't anyone's business on what they have except for them. And nowhere during the pregnancy does it state they need to inform anyone on the gender of their baby.
"Thanks, for doing all of this," Zoe told him, meeting him downstairs having freshened up and put on a white floral dress, her six-month belly showing in the dress.
"There isn't a single thing I wouldn't do for you, baby," he whispered, resting his hands on her stomach, greeting her with a kiss. "Or for you my little kickboxer," he smirked, pressing a kiss to her slightly round stomach.
"What if our little one turns out to be a ballerina?" Zoe asked with a small smirk.
"Then he or she will be the best damn ballerina or kickboxer they've ever seen in Bluebell," he stated very matter-of-factly.
"It's very hard to argue with that statement," Zoe nodded in agreement. "Let the fun begin," she laughed, hearing the knock at their front door.
"We've played the games; we've chatted and the snacks are great," Lemon stated. "Can we get to the part where I am right about you having a little boy," she commented.
"Now see that's where you are wrong, it's a little girl," Annabeth chimed in.
"We get you guys are on the fence about this whole thing," Wade stated, holding his smirk to himself knowing that they wouldn't get the answer they sought tonight. As mean and as evil as it sounded, he was enjoying himself and got a kick out of the whole thing. People shouldn't get so nosey, and they wouldn't have to pull a stunt like this.
"On the count of three," Zoe told them, wrapping herself around her fiancé's side.
"1…2…" Wade and Zoe counted out together, sharing a private look with each other as they paused, annoying their friends a little more. "3," they shouted watching their backyard get covered in yellow and green confetti.
"Is this some kind of sick twisted joke?" George asked, trying his hardest to keep the amusement out of his voice.
"Are you having twins?" Lemon asked, raising an eyebrow.
"No, were not having twins," Zoe stated, shaking her head. "It is sort of a joke, and our way to say we don't know the gender and if and that's a huge if, we want to keep it to ourselves and have it as a special thing between us," she explained.
"Sweetie that option has always been up to you," Harley spoke up from the back door. He made in time to see the yellow and green confetti go everywhere, chuckling at the sight. Travel woes were never fun to deal with.
"You made it," Zoe smiled, hugging her father. "We do know that," she agreed, not seeing the look her fiancé wore behind her back.
"Like I would miss this," he remarked, a bit on the sarcastic side of things. There's nothing that could possibly get in his way of being with his daughter when it came to his future grandchild. "I'll be here for the next 3 or 4 months as well," he informed his daughter.
"We're happy to have you stay here," Wade offered, accepting his fiancée back into his arms, pressing a kiss to her temple. "The guest room is under construction for the nursery," he said.
"Thank you for the offer, but I've got a place to stay," Harley let them know.
"Yeah he's my new roommate," Earl laughed walking up. "Take care of my grandbaby," he told Zoe, giving her a hug.
"I can do that," she smiled, holding her stomach. "I'm more scared of what kind of trouble you two are going to be getting into," she said, looking between her father and her soon-to-be-father.
"I don't know what you're going on about," Earl laughed, leading Harley off.
"You don't think Sheriff Bill will really arrest them, do you?" Wade questioned, watching where their fathers went off to.
"No," Zoe said, shaking her head. "He wouldn't, would he?" She asked, biting her lip.
"Time will tell," Wade chuckled. "I see your cousin wants your attention."
"Mind getting me some fruit and a glass of water?" She asked.
"That might be manageable," he teased, walking off to get Zoe her little snack of fruit and water, tossing a chip in his mouth as he went. He frowned hearing the doorbell.
While Wade was off seeing who was at the door, Zoe sat in the shade, talking to her cousin Vivian.
"Do you think you guys will find out before your baby is born?" She asked.
"It's a toss up, really. One minute we are all for finding out, and then we decide against it. At this point, it's anyone's guess," she shared with her cousin. "Do you ever think about having another one?" Zoe asked.
"I think about having a second child every so often, but I have Harley, and I don't know if I want to change our family like that," Vivian sighed. "Have you guys talked about having a second child?"
"We have," Zoe nodded. "Ideally when this one," she started to say, rubbing her stomach. "Is around 2," she informed her cousin. "Wade had Jesse and I had my friends and you, but I didn't have that sister or brother relationship that I wanted."
"Having a sibling wasn't always rainbows and unicorns," Vivian sighed. "You fight more than anything else."
"That may be true, but you would do anything for your sister," Zoe pointed out. Vivian nodded. "I thought I asked for water and few pieces of fruit, not a side order of Hunter," Zoe commented, seeing her fiancée and his friend walk up to them.
"Thought I should come for a visit for once," Hunter laughed, bending down to hug Zoe.
"Welcome to Bluebell, you'll fit in just fine," she told him, getting up needing to use the bathroom.
"How many more of my old friends moved to this town?" Hunter asked, seeing George on the other side of the yard. He may have been Wade's friend; he still came into the bar, after a hard day at the office to relax, and George made it easy to like him.
"That should be all," Wade laughed, motioning Lavon over. "Wait until you meet the mayor," he smirked, getting a confused look in return.
"Why?" Hunter asked slowly.
"Who was the number-one linebacker you picked when we played fantasy football?" Wade asked him.
"You'd be nuts not to pick Lavon Hayes, come on now; he has two Super Bowl wins, and five pros bowls; he always won me money," Hunter stated in a duh tone.
"My facts sound better coming from Zoe, she likes to say that I got screwed over in 2006 and counts that year as a pro bowl year," Lavon stayed, walking up to them.
"Lavon this is my friend Hunter, who is going to be staying in the carriage house for a while if that's alright?" He asked; Lavon nodded; he couldn't take his word back now that the guy showed up in town. "Dude, this is Mayor Lavon Hayes, yes, that Lavon Hayes," he chuckled seeing the disbelief on his friends face.
Wade left his friend to either get his act together to have a normal conversation with Lavon or make a complete fool of himself as he headed off to find his pregnant fiancée.
"What's going on in here?" Wade asked, taking a seat next to Zoe on the couch as he interrupted the conversation she's having with Jesse.
"I'm trying to convince my new sister to name her child after me," Jesse smirked.
"Nope not going to happen," Wade smirked in return, shooting his brother's suggestion down. "We have names picked out already," he said. Sure they had a full name for a girl and only the first name for a boy, but he wouldn't be naming his kid after his brother. It wouldn't work.
