Chapter 78: Overwhelming Odds

In the secluded storeroom of a gym panting and banging could be heard from the other side of the door. It sounds suggestive but it's anything but passion, at least in the physical sense. Wii Fit dodge her head from left to right and right to left. Little Mac's punches were getting faster and faster, thank god she had the flexibility to bend her body away from the green oven mitts.

She did several back flips and made some distance from her fighting partner. She needs more of a boost to gain an edge in the fight, but first, a distraction. She hopped in the air, a green soccer ball manifester right in front of her forehead and headbutted the bouncy object forwards.

Little Mac ran regardless, when the ball came close he pulled back his arm and delivered a hefty punch to the green object. The object came back to her like a boomerang, she just managed to complete her deep breathing technique when the soccer ball gave a painful kiss to the jaw.

The trainer twisted and turned in the air; body surrounded by a magenta hue of light. It would have been awesome if she wasn't uppercutted in the stomach just before she landed, sending her even higher in the air.

Fit was dizzy but she caught Little Mac attempting to do his signature 'Rising Uppercut' move. The Newcomer had just enough time to spawn colorful hula hoops on her hips and hovered out of harm's way.

She held her arms in the air so her hoops could demanifest without issue. Hasty footsteps came from behind. She turned around and dodge the swift punch aimed at her waist. Fit fingers went rigid when she hit him in the face, knocked the wind out of his lungs with a knee to the belly, she would have been able to get some percentage in with a stomp before the boxer blocked and delivered a counterpunch to her chest.

Wii Fit flew and skidded on the smooth floor. Both she and the boxer were producing steam from their bodies indicating that they both were at a high percentage. She needs to end this quick before he can land another blow on her. The magenta light was fading too, give her more urgency to wrap up the match.

She raised both hands upwards, a ball of solar energy manifested and grew larger until her special move was fully charged. Little Mac was running again, this time at a break-neck pace. The moment he was up to her face he used his special K O punch, a colorful flame spawned around his wrist as he made contact… only to find he was hitting empty air.

Something slammed into his back, it was bright and warm. Little Mac only had a second to register the sensation as he was thrown far up to the ceiling. A blinding light engulfed him and covered a large portion of the room. On the way down, a trophy landed perfectly on it's golden base on the storeroom floor.

Wii Fit pressed her hands against her knees, she took a drink of water from the plastic bottle on the floor before turning to the statue. She and most of the Newcomers had discovered their powers whilst in the mansion but now they have the opportunity to test their limits, work out the kinks.

Said kinks involved fighting one another head on. All of the Smashers participate in this ritual, but not often as Wii Fit and Mac. Their athletic builds and enthusiasm for exercise allow them to become great partners. All of the people here are afraid of becoming a trophy upon defeat, but it's not a big deal. Just takes time getting used to.

The trainer went up to the boxer and tapped the gold plate. A light came and revealed Little Mac shaking his head and scratching the itch on his back. "I lost?"

"Without a doubt." Smirked Wii Fit.

"Yeah, I had a feeling. How?"

"I rolled under your legs and threw a miniature sun on your back. Nothing too special." She added.

"Eh." He looked around the room, spotting several craters in the wall that were made several days ago. "Well we didn't wreck the place this time. That's gotta be an accomplishment."

"Yeah, sure is." Wii Fit twisted her back, popping up her upper back. "Alright, we should head back to the security room. I need a rest." She went to the door but Little Mac called out.

"You're going back like that?" Mac pointed with his glove.

She turned around. "Hm?" It hit her that she was still steaming from the fight. Some of the Smashers would definitely be nervous about that fact. She can already tell they wouldn't stop talking about her condition upon the sight of her. "Oh, the percentage."

"You're going to let out some "steam" before you head out." He walked up to Wii Fit and observed the cloud of heated water. "Going to use that self-healing trick of yours?"

Wii Fit shook her head. "That'll take a long time. I think the best course of action is for you to punch me."

He tilted his head slightly to the side. "You want me to beat you in your trophy state?"

"It's not a big deal, you can just revive me afterwards. You have my permission." Wii Fit explained. "Just deliver a solid punch, just be-" The trainer said an uppercut made contact with her chest.

Little Mac stayed in place, ignoring the light above. The trophy landed in front of him, he tapped the base.

"Ugh!" Wii Fit groaned. "I wasn't finished yet, I wanted you to punch… you know what? Nevermind. The problem is solved." She rubbed her chest. "That was pretty powerful, no wonder you made it high in those tournaments."

"You're pretty powerful yourself." Little Mac opened the door and exited, Wii Fit followed suit. "I don't know anyone as flexible as you."

"Yeah I've been told that a lot back then. Some people actually thought my spine was made of jelly. How'd they come to that conclusion I will never know."

The pair walked halfway through the gym when Villager came running in, stopping a near foot away from them. "Guys! Something big is happening. You got to come quickly!"

"What is it?" Demanded Little Mac. "Are we being attacked?"

"No man… we found a way to the lower levels and Greninja got a map for us." Replied the mayor.

"A map?" Question the trainer. "When?"

"Just now, we also have a clue that more Newcomers are in trouble."

"More Newcomers are in trouble?! How's you know?" Said a shocked Little Mac.

"Shulk had a vision. We'll explain it more back in the security room, we're having a discussion, but we have to go now."

Wii Fit and Little Mac turned their heads and gave each other puzzled looks. Break time is over.

Six Days Ago

"Tabuu is back?!" Wario almost screeched the entity's name in pure horror. They were commencing a huge meeting in the command center, save a few for a handful of Smashers keeping watch on the barrier (They will understand soon enough.) R.O.B. was in the center of it all. Since he was the one who discovered this fact he was obligated to explain the unexpected turn in developments. It was getting pretty hectic to say the least.

"[I didn't say that!]" R.O.B. announced from the podium. "I'm saying there is a connection here."

"I'd say!" Sonic hollered and pointed to a large picture of the rainbow figures projected by the film projector. It was hard to pick up, but within the parameters of the colorful entities showed a faint design and color scheme identical to the wings of the late tyrannical Tabuu. "This might change the game. But it doesn't make sense, he's dead. We killed him ourselves.."

"[You're absolutely right, Sonic.]" Agreed R.O.B. "[I can confirm that Tabuu is dead, that I am sure of. His domain's existence depends on his life alone, the subspace dimension would still be here in the WOT if that's the case. Yes, Lucario?]"

Lucario raised his paw, waiting for the robot to pick on him. When he did, he poked the question that's been nagging everybody. "If Tabuu is dead… then why is his… "mark" on the Newcomers in the first place?"

R.O.B. didn't want to play into the theory that these rainbow figures are in fact indeed the Newcomers - as he didn't want to hype everyone up only for something to smash it into pieces, but even he was warming up to the idea that these holograms… whatever they might be, are most likely their dear friends.

"It might have something to do with the damage he inflicted on the WOT before he died." Samus suggested, standing up so the fighters in the room has full view of her. "Like it or not, he did leave his mark on existence as a whole. We all thought that the cracks had healed completely, but we might have missed a spot… right at home."

"Are you suggestion that the multiple dimension theory is connected directly to the carnage that Tabuu afflicted in this world?" Questioned Snake. "What makes you say that?"

"I was present during the second generation, the Melee Age." Samus replied.

"Yeah, you were…. That was the time where'd you guys were still puppets to the hands." Wolf remarked. "How's that significant?"

"I don't know if you guys remember but I think he'd mentioned that this dimension was his own creation."

"Annnnnd?" Wolf pressed.

"He only said "dimension" in the plural, as in single. He would have used "dimensions" if there were multiple to begin with."

"Okay! Okay! Now that's stretching don't you think?"

"[No, she's right.]" R.O.B. said, confusion spread among his listens until he gave clarification. "[As you know, I was forced to work for Tabuu under disguise. Back when...]" He shudders at the thought of the ruin that monster brought upon his people but shook the feeling off. "I happened to know a lot about him, I saw and told me what he can do. He had the power to manipulate dimensional and spatial energies as he so chooses, and the kicker is… he also mentioned that the WOT was a single dimension. I believe he is responsible for this other dimension."

"Do you think he's a responsible for the crystals that the Mii team a got? That couldn't be a coincidence." Mario stated.

Lucario sighed. "Right you are my red plumber friend."

R.O.B. shook his head. "[No, I don't think Tabuu's responsible. He's dead, remember. FW is the one who laid out all those gems as well as those items we've gotten from that code. He's certainly an enigma.]"

"Enigma? That's what you're calling him?" Lucario rose from his seat. "He almost blew up a dam, helped a psychotic cyborg ant take over his kingdom, lead us on a wild goose chase and now he's crystals are directly responsible for the vanishing of the Newcomers."

"You saying FW is a bad guy?" Lucas asked.

"Of course I am Lucas. I can't see the good in any of those actions of this FW. He might even have a comfy relationship with the Hands. Taking our newest generation of fighters is certainly a good way to make us weaker."

"FW might even be the Hands and they were just playing us like a fiddle!" Shouted Bowser.

"It would certainly fit right up their alley." Said Ganondorf.

R.O.B. was going to speak but a shy timid voice spoke loudly enough to be heard. "I think we're going about this the wrong way." It was Lucas, he stood from his bench and gulped.

Lucario came and knelt by the blonde psychic. "Lucas… what do you mean?"

"This is going to be controversial so hear me out. What if… FW is actually trying to help us?" Sounds of coughing, gasps and "What"s echoed through the room.

"Lucas… you can't be serious." Said a stunned Lucario.

"Back when we learned that he had a part in the dam and the ants, we were for sure he was trying to work against us. But then we got that code and he was directly referencing Newcomers before they came into existence, giving us items for each question we'd answered. Then on the day when A Newcomer appeared on the radar but we couldn't find them… the rain- no… the Newcomers found an entirely new figure on the ground and helped him. It looked like he was hurt pretty bad. Not to mention that the sphere did help the Miis improve on their skills. It wouldn't make sense for him or her to do this to us without reason."

"Of course there's a reason, he's just toying with us. That's a common habit with criminals who think they're superior to everyone else." Argued Captain Falcon.

"I don't know… what kind of criminal helps his enemies succeed when they're trying to destroy them?" Peach asked. "It's too convoluted and unnecessary complex in this case. All signs point to him having precognition or having knowledge of the future. If I was a bad guy I would certainly take advantage of the knowledge I have, not leave clues and gifts everywhere for my enemies to find."

"Do we actually know what the motive of FW is? We don't even have a clue to who he is. But be one of the rare inhabitants to still have a sense of true sapience." Marth pondered.

"He's trying to kill us, are you seriously giving him the sense of doubt?" Wario shouted.

R.O.B. sighed as the crowd became antsy and began arguing with each other. They're just nervous and letting off some steam he thought… or maybe the cracks are beginning to show.

R.O.B. shook the thought from the conference. It was a total headache for all, but more civil than he expected. The aftermath did leave a nasty mark on the mansion's atmosphere, people are more tense, even more than before. He couldn't really blame them, it was a taxing moment for everyone, bringing every drop of strength from their bones to destroy Tabuu. But there was always that "What if?" They will not let the same catastrophe from happening again. Master Hand will not get the last laugh.

The robot traveled down the hall when he noticed a door opened widely ajar. "[Somebody forgot to close this.]" He sighed, gripping his claw on the knob. He was going to shut it but he caught a peek inside. There were glass cases with small figurines showcased inside.

"[The trophy room? I haven't been here in a while.]" He entered and gazed through the many plains of glass, so many trophies at one place. A collector's paradise. He happened to stumble across one that resseblemed himself, standing fine for the viewer's gaze. "[Heh, I will never understand how they managed to get every detail right.]"

The trophy room was a special place in the mansion, while others like the command center and laboratory had its uses in expanding on their continued prosperity and survival. This room is simply a museum of sorts, a far cry from the gaming room but it had its purpose. They didn't know how they spawn but these little gems spawn across all over the WOT, some stood in plain sight where most appear in the most unlikely of places.

These trophies come in all shapes and sizes, representing an entity, location, object… anything from the other universes that are part of the Omniverse. The best part is they're always finding new ones, so the chances of them finding doubles are extremely rare. It was fun. Maybe that's the reason why people took a liking to this place so much, there's so much you can gain here.

Sadly, they had to put their trophy hunting on hold when the Newcoming events began. And it's doubtful they can continue the hunt so quickly with the war going on. Can't believe everything changed within a couple of months.

He changed the thought to something more productive, there's no use crying stuff that happened in the past. He decided to check up on the items they've gotten from the code, for good measure.

As R.O.B. walked, he recalled the first arrival of the Miis. Not their accidental break-in of the mansion, but rather their birth into existence… They didn't show up on the scanner. It was an old technology, he ordered his people to craft the device under direct orders from Tabuu. At the time he wanted an extra countermeasure against the Smashers, being wary of Newcomers ahead of time will give you a huge advantage if one wanted to defeat any new players on the field.

He never understood how Tabuu have gotten the blueprints to construct such a contraption but it worked. Around the Subspace Incident two signals appeared on the scanner; Wolf and Toon Link. They didn't even had even the faintest idea that the world was being took over until they found them by chance and brought them to speed. Good thing he managed to copy the prints in his memory banks before the island blew up.

When they founded their organization and got the mansion, he went to work on the scanner. It took a lot of work, but he got it set up just as he remembered. He was stunned at first when the Miis came around, the scanner should have picked them up hours ago. Upon closer inspection, he discovered issues (Which he immediately fixed" inside the scanner but none to where which would cause the trio to become unnoticed.

R.O.B. twisted the key and opened the door to storage. He tossed the key into a leather pouch hanging off his chest.

It also confused how the first Newcoming of the age was a trio. Multiple Newcomers had appeared in the same day before, but three at once? And coming from the same universe no less? It was unique. The crystal ball, the code from FW… they were all colored the same as their attire. It couldn't be a coincidence. How do they tie into all of this, why are those three special… He should bring this up with his consultants. But first, the inspection.

Metal was rattling, the sound became clearer the closer he ventured. The door that was holding all the contents from the code was shaking without apparent cause. "[What… is something messing with the evidence?!]" Cautiously, he readied his eye laser as he approached the door. He entered the code into the locker and swung it open.

The shaking stopped in an instant; phone, paper and pencil were in their respective places. R.O.B. zoomed in on the objects. "[Did that… what was that?]"

Taking all three items and placing them on a nearby table, he commenced a scan through his lens to detect any anomalies, but came out with nothing unusual. "[Maybe I should resume my testing on these… but I can't find anything.]"

He turned his head to the adjacent locker he opened. "[Might as well check this out.]" He unlocked the door, the orange crystal ball stared back at him. R.O.B. picked it up. "[More questions than answers. I wonder what tests I can still conduct on you-]" R.O.B. harddrive almost crashed when he saw the pencil moving by itself on the map.

With hesitation, he crouched, etching closer to the desk until he could make out pictures on the paper. "[It's filling out the map?!]" R.O.B. shouted. The pencil was drawing out islands and continents but it didn't look like anything he recognized, there were some sections that felt familiar but everything else was foriegn. "[It's like a whole new… world!]"

R.O.B. swiped the wired house phone attached to the wall. With confidence and uncertainty he dialed in the number. "[Fox? Fox! There you are, sorry for interrupting your business but… I discovered something, just came to the storage area. This is big.]"

Rosalina held two pieces of paper within both of her hands; squinting on the left map and tilting her head on the right one. "These maps correlate to one another, I think the base's position is right here." The princess pinned the maps to the others documents they've found down below on the wall, using a rather handful of pushpins from the desk.

"How far do you think the drive will be?" Asked Little Mac.

"If I had to choose… 12 miles at least." Rosalina answered nonchalantly, petting the luma in her hands. The Newcomers were having a meeting in the security room. Most of the fighters were sitting down on the floor as Rosalina, Greninja and Shulk stood up and took front stage. They were in discussion on how to enter the base. Usually they wouldn't be so keen on going far from the mall, but Smashers were at stake.

"It's not as far as the farm, but it's certainly far enough." Wii Fit. "The gas from the cars in the garage will make things easy for us if we put the effort in. But we're going to need enough there and back."

"How the hell are we going to get the gas out?" Brawler questioned. "Sucking into a hose will take the entire day."

Greninja cough into his hand, getting the group's attention. "You have a crazy idea?" Said Brawler.

"Being a water-type of my nature, I can control water. If I inserted water into a tank I can control the water to push the gasoline out of the vehicle and into a portable container. No worry about contamination."

"Talk about innovation!" Cheered Villager.

Brawler cringed at the kid's happiness and joyful attitude. How the hell can he be a smiley? Wasn't he traumatized a week ago? That kid is something special.

Mega Man asked the Hom. "Just so we're clear Shulk, you're confident that these Newcomers are the base."

"I saw tanks and a hanger in my vision." Clariyed Shulk. "I'm confident."

"Speaking of which, what did these people look like in the vision you had? Anything unique about them?"

Shulk rubbed his chin and thought back to the fight. The fog made it hard to see but he did make out the details. "Two people, a man and a woman-"

"Two Newcomers?" Gunner said in astoundment. "That hasn't happened since the three of us first came here."

"The three of us?" Asked Greninja. "You mean… you and your two friends?"

"Yeah… we were the first Newcomers to come during this era. We all arrived at once, and made it to the mansion all one our own." Gunner rubbed the back of her head in embarrassment. "We made a terrible first impression but that passed."

"You three at once? I didn't know you guys came at the same time-" Mega Man said before a loud cough interrupted the conversation. "Ah, sorry."

"The woman has blue hair and has a cape, while the man has white hair and a full on black-cloak. Interestingly enough, they were both carrying swords." Shulk answered.

"Sword and capes?" Brawler inspected the large sniper rifle by the wall, he couldn't wait to try out. "Bet they come from Marth's universe."

"Why'd you think that?" Sword asked.

"Just a hunch."

Shulk didn't know who this 'Marth' person was but it didn't matter at the moment. "I think we should approach the front gate of the base."

"We can't do that." Brawler rose from the floor and walked up to the map. "Look here, the front area is wide open. If those army guys are hostile, things will go downhill pretty quickly."

"Actually I don't think there is anyone there." Said Shulk.

"Hm?"

"In my vision… As I said before, I didn't see any normal living people there. So..."

"So it's been either overrun or abandoned." Brawler gritted his teeth. "God… we struggled with our lives last time that happened, if the army couldn't handle them… We won't fair much better"

"We can't give up on those people!" Cried Villager. "Everyone needs to look out for each other, we can't just bail on them."

"Did I say that kid?" Brawler glared at the mayor. "Just saying how it is. This will be hell compared to the last time we ventured out there. But..." He tapped on the grey squares making up the base on the map. "This base must have a lot of weapons. If we get surrounded we could just let it rip. Still there is the problem with teams."

"Teams?" Little Mac inquired.

"We shouldn't leave the mall unguarded, I don't want it to be a repeat of the farm." Brawler explained. "We should split our group, some go to the base while the rest stay here and maintain our base."

Wii Fit raised her hand. "I don't know if that's a good idea. How are we going to decide? Are we picking straws or-"

"Argh!" Shulk grabbed his head in pain and closed his eyes. Greninja rushed up to him and laid a hand on his shoulder.

"Gre ninja gre nin nin?" Said Greninja.

"Just had a new vision… a large group of those deer creatures walking through the forest. I think… I think that group is heading to the base!"

"Damn, we need to pick up the base." Sword said. "Greninja! Go down to the parking lot and get some people to assist you. Wii Fit! Get the car ready! We'll decide this in a moment!" Sword grabbed the car keys off the table and tossed it to the trainer. Both she and the swordsman ran out the door. The frog nodded to the Hom before also leaving the room.

"Alright people, you need to make a decision now whether you want to come or not." Brawler hoisted the sniper rifle over his back. "If you have your balls out this time, then pack up what you need and leave what you don't - now move!"

Samus had been logging all the food items they held in the pantry. She held the old metal clipboard in one hand and wrote down what they have with the ballpoint pen in the other. This was the first ever time that they had to plan and save their portions for another day. Before Master Hand revealed his ugly palm they've just gone down to the grocery store in Smashville and Onett. But now those towns are being watched and patrolled by the Primids.

It's funny how you value the importance of something when it's gone.

They've been racing to find out any leads on the Hands location. All they could possibly do was fight back against his army. Splitting up, culling the monsters but they keep coming. God help them if the Master Hand found a way of creating more.

But the worst of all was the morale. The loss of the Newcomers… Tabuu… the air in the halls were getting thicker. People weren't having as many gatherings and relaxing as they used to. It's been getting to them all, especially Lucario.

Poor thing… he's gotta learn not to blame himself for everyone. It's a fault that might get the best of him some day.

The doors to the kitchen flung open, Samus whipped around to see Fox panting in the doorframe.

"R.O.B. wants us."

"Fox, I can't. I'm keeping stock."

"It can wait. R.O.B. discovered something big. And he wants us two to see it specifically."

The bounty hunter grumbled, R.O.B. always wanted them to be a part of his work since they were the two people who helped him out with a lot of his experiments in recent years. What could be so urgent to force her to stop her count? She laid the clipboard on the counter and followed Fox to the storage room.

The vulpine knocked, after a moment of silence the door opened. "[Sorry for calling you so soon, but I didn't know who else to call at a moment's notice.]"

"So what do we have here?" Fox asked. The robot welcomed them inside and guided them to the desk. Samus recognized it as the items they got from the code - the pencil was moving autonomously across the formerly blank paper. So many scribbles were written on it.

"They're moving?" Samus turned to R.O.B., confusion boggling her mind. "What did you do?"

"[Nothing! I wanted to check out those items so I laid them on the desk so I could commence the daily inspection. But when I turned back they were like this.]" R.O.B. explained. "[They're drawing a map of some sort.]"

"A map?" Fox walked to the table. It was a map alright but the islands and continents looked different: An island by the Mansion's beach, a large island continent far east, and was that a desert where Onett used to be? "This doesn't add up to the map we already have."

R.O.B. pressed his claws together with a mixture of excitement and nervousness. "[It's most likely the map from… the other world.]"

"Other world?" Fox pressed his hands off the table. "You mean that dimension theory is right after all, and this is our map of that place?"

"[There had been too many coincidences coming our way, this can't just be random scribbling.]" R.O.B. said.

"How are they… I thought Zelda didn't detect any magic in them. She said they were normal." Samus observed.

"[We'll have to bring her in again, perhaps we made an error. Hasn't done anything yet, it just laying there.]"

"It's still moving..." Fox commented. "What's the next course of action, R.O.B.?"

"[We need to get the word out of this development but don't disturb the objects at all, we might screw something up by accident if we do.]"

"Are you sure that's a good idea, R.O.B.?" Asked Samus. "We should ask the other first before we make any major decisions. This is hug-"

A large rumble rocked through the floor of the storage room before going silent. Alarms blared through the speakers of the mansion. The three Veterans were shell-shocked.

"What is..." Fox muttered.

"[The emergency alarm...]" R.O.B. recognized the sound anywhere, he was the one who came up with the system when they first settled in the mansion. A voice came through, it sounded like Zelda. She shouted the words that brought him back to reality.

"THE PRIMIDS ARE ATTACKING THE FENCE PERIMETER! I REPEAT! THE PRIMIDS ARE THE FENCE PERIMETER!"
