Chapter 10: Annabeth

The trio crept through the corridors of the Palace of Knossos. The corridors were lined with frescos in the style of the throne room. Flaming torches illuminated the passageways. Eventually the demigods found the force. Inside Annabeth could see Tyson. His neck, arms and legs are chained as we worked away on an anvil. The sight of her friend being treated like an animal made Annabeth furious. She flung her daggers at the chains binding Tyson's hands. The celestial bronze blades sliced through the steel bindings. Tyson was able to wrench the remaining chains off.

"Are you okay buddy?" Jason asked the cyclops.

"I'm fine. What about you guys?"

"We're okay." Behind Tyson Annabeth noticed a safe. Picking up her daggers she walked towards it. Annabeth slashed at the lock; the safe swung open. Inside was their gear. Reequipping themselves the group rushed out of the forge.

Annabeth delved deeper and deeper into the palace complex. The others followed. For some reason Annabeth felt connected to the structure, as if she had been there before. An archway soon explained the feeling. Above the arch was written a word: Labyrinthos. The Labyrinth. Annabeth had been inside the maze several times. None of them had been pleasant. In the distance Annabeth could hear shouting: it seemed that their escape had been noticed.

"What do we do?" Leo asked frantically.

"We can't defeat them all!" replied Jason. With a sickening realisation Annabeth realised what they had to do.

"We have to go into the Labyrinth." She said with a sigh.

"What! Are you crazy? Remember last time!" exclaimed Tyson.

"Do you have a better idea?" shouted Annabeth. The lack of response gave her the answer. Turning towards the archway, she ran into the Labyrinth.
