Author's Note (Monster): Hello, our lovelies! See? A new update. For the keen eye, yes, I've changed the total amount of chapters to 21 because I had to split up a long chapter. The number will go up more in the future. I've written all the way to chapter 14 but the change from chapter 10 to 11 feels so rushed that I need to add a chapter or maybe two chapters in between to give it a nice transition. This also means that yes, the next update will take a bit longer than just a week but know that I've written 4 more chapters already and I'm still going. I'm putting my energy in this fic at the moment. Enjoy!
Previously on Savage;
Now back at the mountain house, Danny can see Johnny's domestic side, a less serious one. So far there hasn't been anything not to like about the other. He counters Johnny's deal with one of his own; he'll become Johnny's mate if he can make Danny fall in love.
Johnny 3 Tears' POV
Danny returned home to his apartment and I returned to my marriage with work. I took a day off paperwork to have my date with Danny and now I had plenty of things to catch up on. For one, I had to drive down to the office to get a few things, but I preferred to work from home for today. I didn't need anyone prying in my search for a mate there.
Speaking of, Danny's deal threw me for a loop. I thought we were well on our way to agreeing to become mates, that the love between us would come in time – truth be told, I was lying to myself when I said that, but that's far too long of a story to tell right now – but somehow he seemed to be insensitive to it. Maybe he felt like he was settling for me if he just agreed?
Was I really just an Alpha to settle for? Most, if not ALL, Omegas I had met in my life before, were thrilled to attempt to become my mate but I was never interested. Why did I have to pick one that was so hard to get? Why did I have to go for the savage.
No, it felt disrespectful to think of Danny in such manner. He did not deserve the name of a savage. He was a beautiful man with a strong spirit. I found myself smiling at the thought of his smile, the one he'd shown during lunch at the table after our date.
I gripped the steering wheel a little harder, realizing I had to keep my mind focussed on the road so I wouldn't just drive off to somewhere and get lost. Finally, I pulled up in my parking spot and walked into the office. I greeted the lady at the front desk and took the elevator to my office. Before the doors could slide closed, an arm shot between the doors and someone entered the elevator.
"Johnny! You're here", he greeted.
I pursed my lips. "Hello, Brendon."
"Have you heard?" Brendon asked, punching the button to the same floor as mine. Fucking great.
"Have I heard what, Brendon?"
"I might be running against you for that council seat", Brendon shared with me like it were a secret. "Well… Not running against you if you don't find a mate of course. But I'm applying."
I gritted my teeth. "I'm sure they'll wait for me to find a mate rather than hire an underqualified idiot to become a member of the High Council."
"Underqualified?" Brendon chuckled. "Oh, Johnny, you really think the planets orbit your anus, don't you? You're not as great as you think you are."
"I'm as great as the voters think", I raised an eyebrow, wishing the elevator would go faster already so Brendon would be gone.
"Well if you don't find a mate, they won't even be allowed to vote for you because you won't be allowed to participate in the race, buddy", Brendon pouted. The elevator finally made a DING sound and the doors slid open. I powerwalked to my office but Brendon walked by my side. "Unless you can find a mate this week, of course. But you know, you wouldn't want to mate someone you don't love, right? All that foolish stuff you believe in."
I stopped dead in my tracks and turned to Brendon. "Oh please, I can find a mate by the end of the week easily. I can find love in a week, EASILY!"
"Prove it, Jonathan. I won't even apply if you do. The spot's all yours if you find a mate by the end of the week", Brendon laughed. "This is gonna be good. If you can't find a mate, I'll be sure to address it in my victory speech."
With that, Brendon vanished out of sight and I could feel the anger seer through me. I had wanted to punch that guy in the face so bad. Now I didn't only want to become Danny's mate for the higher position or because I felt a deep interest for the man, but now I wanted to prove Brendon wrong too. I could make Danny fall in love for sure! Now I had even more to lose if this didn't work out.
I almost forgot why I came to the office after encountering Brendon so I scurried the papers together in my office. Brendon reminded me why I didn't want to come to the office in the first place. He reminded me why I decided to work from home. He was only one of the colleagues I did not want to encounter. Not everyone here was as honest as me after all.
I felt like an idiot trying to hide from colleagues, but I really did not need another interaction with them like I had with Brendon. I packed several documents and left to return home. I couldn't believe Brendon had the guts to try and run against me. He'd always been trying to copy my ideas, copy what I was doing, but he'd always been far less successful in doing so. For once, he had an advantage; he was mated. He had been mated for years and years. I couldn't believe they would pick a member for the High Council depending on your relationship status. I was never distracted from my job despite the lack of a mate so why would I become distracted now?
Work always came first!
I parked the car in the driveway and headed inside, past Funny. "Working from home, boss?"
"Yes, the office is on my back about the higher position and I really don't need that when I'm trying to work", I replied. I installed myself in the downstairs office, Funny followed to resume the conversation. "They've given you until the end of the week so I don't understand why they won't just shut up until then."
"I don't know either", I sighed. "The pressure is definitely on. It's going to be quite a task, especially with Danny's counteroffer."
"Counteroffer?" Charlie joined. "What did he say?"
"He agrees to become my mate if he falls in love with me. How will I do this within the week?!" I massaged my temples, the pressure only sinking in further.
"Well not when you look so stressed. That's for sure", Charlie said. "Just be you, boss. Danny likes everything he has seen from you so far. I'm sure he'll decide to become your mate."
"I'm not so sure", I groaned. "I have to find a way to speed this up."
I cocked my head when an idea hit. "Will you guys leave me alone to work now?"
Charlie and Funny nodded and left. I took out my phone and called for J-Dog. He was on duty today so I wasn't sure if he'd pick up.
"Johnny?"
"Hey."
"This better be important if you're calling me at work, boss", J-Dog sighed and I knew it wasn't the best idea I'd had in a while, but I knew it was the idea that would work best. "I need you to bring home Danny's file."
There was a silence in which I could hear J-Dog excuse himself out of the office. Once outside, he whispered angrily; "I'm not allowed to do that!"
"I need you to", I stated. "I need his file. I want you to bring it home with you and return it tomorrow."
J-Dog paused. "I can't do that, Johnny."
"It's an order", I bit. "Not a request."
"You can't do this, Johnny. It's illegal to use your commanding voice for these things."
I sighed. "I know, but I need to and I'm hoping you understand."
"Fine", J-Dog whispered. "I'll do it. Not like I have the ability to disobey an Alpha anyway."
Please Review, they're our heavy fuel!
As a side note, I've mentioned Johnny's commanding voice before - he commanded Charlie to tell him what upset Danny and now Johnny commanded Jay to bring home Danny's file; you can't disobey the commanding voice of an Alpha. It's illegal to use it like Johnny used it in this chapter, but Jay physically can't disobey.
