It was the middle of the night, and Josie couldn't sleep. She decided to grab a midnight snack and then head back to bed. She walked downstairs and found Jack in the kitchen. "Hi," she said.

"Josie, what's wrong?" Jack asked.

Josie crossed her arms. "Nothing. I just couldn't sleep." She sat down and started to cry into her hands.

Jack was stuck. He didn't know how to help her. He didn't want to make her more upset than she already was, but he had to do something. Finally, he just went to hug her. He wrapped his arms around her and told her that everything would be okay.

"I'm sorry. You must think I'm crazy." She looked at him tearfully.

"Of course not," Jack reassured her. "I'm so sorry, Josie. I know how hard this must be."

"It's not about the breakup," said Josie. She looked at Jack inquisitively. "If I tell you something, can you not tell Mom?"

Jack slowly nodded. "I guess so."

"I liked Dean. I really did. But we didn't break up because he said he loved me. I mean… I didn't love him. But we broke up because he wanted to… move faster than I did."

Jack crossed his arms. "Did he hurt you, or force himself on you?"

"No," said Josie. "But when I said no, he got angry at me. I said no, and he ended it."

"Josie, I'm sure your mom has told you this, but if he got angry at you for not doing what he wanted, then it's his loss."

"Yeah, but if that's true, why does it feel like mine?" Josie asked.

"Because you didn't just lose your boyfriend. You lost the boyfriend you thought you had," said Jack. "If he ended it because you wouldn't do what you wanted him to do, then he's not the person you thought he was."

Josie smiled. "You're good at this whole therapist thing."

Jack smiled in return. "Your mom always said I had a talent for reading people."

"You do," said Josie, nodding. "Speaking of Mom, are you guys back together?"

"Well," said Jack, as he tried to figure out how to answer.

"Just tell me, please?" Josie said.

Jack smiled. "Yes, we are."

"Good, I'm glad," said Josie. "Just... don't hurt her again, okay?"

"Oh, of course not. I'm back, and I'm not going anywhere."

Josie smiled. "I'm glad. We both want you here." Josie sighed. "Can I ask you something?"

"Anything," said Jack.

"How do you feel about all of this? I mean, in the last three days, you found out Mom's alive, that I exist, and that you're a father. So, how do you feel about it all?"

Jack sighed. "I'm happy. In so many ways, I'm happy. I love your mom, and I love you, and I'm so glad that I'm here. But deep down, I hate the fact that I missed your whole life. Your mom's whole life. I left her behind, I left her to take care of you, and I left you behind."

"I hear you. But I think from here we just have to move forward. Regardless of what happened in the past, you're my dad. And with Mom… she loves you. She's so glad you're here too." She looked at Jack. "I think you just have to believe that there was a reason you didn't find each other back then. Mom's self-sufficient. She works hard, she made a life for herself, and she took care of me. As for me, I had an amazing childhood. Mom and I are best friends and we're happy. And now that you're here, we're complete."

Jack smiled. "You're good at this therapist thing."

"Yeah, well. I got it from you." She stood up and gave Jack a hug. "Good night, Dad."

Jack's face lit up, and Josie noticed. He really did feel like a dad, and Josie was the most amazing kid. "Good night, Josie."
