Olivia paced outside the school looking for Kevin. She thought maybe he hadn't gotten her text but it said 'read' so clearly he had seen it. There was a chance that her mom had seen it and read it then deleted it but that didn't seem likely.

She finally gave up waiting and started walking home. She couldn't believe what had said and she was very tempted to call his bluff. He wouldn't really do what he said he would but there was an off chance that he might actually follow through.

As every car passed, Olivia looked just in case it was Kevin. It's not like it was a long walk but it wasn't like him to just not show up or respond if he couldn't make it.

She reached her apartment building quicker than she thought. She made her way up the stairs and unlocked the apartment door. The lights were all shut off and it was eerily quiet. Olivia looked around and poked her head into every doorway looking for her mom or Kevin but neither one was around.

Olivia figured they were just out and would be home later so she wasn't too worried. She turned on the kitchen light and made her way to her bedroom where she laid down, just to take a little nap and figure out what she was going to do about school.

Olivia was woken up by a crashing noise in the hallway. She pulled her blanket up closer to her and huddled under it, thinking that this was it for her. She was going to die by an intruder. She peered over the edge of her blanket and saw it was her mom standing in her doorway, "Mom?"

"He left, Livvy. He left and he isn't coming back. Come comfort me."

Olivia threw the blanket back and stood up, "What do you mean he left?"

"What do you think I mean? He's gone. He left us and you're the reason why. He said he only stayed for you but you had to go and screw that up by falling apart and making him hate both of us."

"I...mom, I didn't….I'm sorry…"

Erin moved so fast that all Olivia could do was stand there as her mom struck her, "Don't spew apologies like you mean them. Don't you dare."

Olivia pressed her fingers to her mouth, knowing that her mom was really far gone and she wasn't sure if she could bring her back.

"You ruined this, Olivia. You ruined this relationship like you've ruined the others. They all leave and they all end up leaving because of you. You're the reason it's just the two of us and I hope you never forget that," Erin spit out, her eyes bright and glazed over. She wasn't fully there and Olivia was still undecided if this was bad or really bad, "You're a pathetic excuse for a daughter, even better, a pathetic excuse for a human being and I wish I would have gotten rid of you when I had the chance." Erin glared at her daughter one last time before shoving her away and storming out the room, the door slamming shut behind her.

Olivia sank to the floor right where she was. The words flashing in her head like a neon sign. She frantically dug in her bag for her knife and rolled up her sleeves.

One slice for the word pathetic, one for worthless, one for liar, and the list went on and on. She never cut too deep, she knew what she was doing but she also knew that one day this wouldn't help. One day nothing would be enough and Olivia wasn't sure what she was going to do when that happened. She had no one. Kevin was gone, Riley and Maya were...she wasn't sure what, hated her she was pretty sure, and her mom, well her mom wished she wasn't around and Olivia wished more than anything else that she wasn't around either. She reached for the bottle and took a swig. It was going to be a long night.

Morning rolled around and Erin flung the door to Olivia's room open and saw her passed out on the floor. She made a disgusted noise with her throat and kicked at her daughter, "Get up."

Olivia managed to pry her eyes open for a moment before closing them again and groaning. She reached out for her phone to check the time and saw it was 10am, "Frick frick frick," she jumped up, scrambling around for her clothes and bag trying to throw her stuff together to get to school before lunch.

Erin watched her daughter for a moment and let out a low laugh, "Quit rushing. You're home with the flu today. Your hangover cure is in the kitchen when you want it," Erin moved off the door and watched the look of surprise cross her daughters face, "There's one thing you should know before you say you're not a drinker," Olivia watched her mom closely waiting to hear what she had to say, "You may be able to fool others but you can't fool another drunk.

looked in the hallways for Olivia's dark hair, she had missed homeroom and when he asked Riley and Maya, they hadn't seen her either. He wanted to talk to her before he went to administration. He had hoped to catch her before lunch but had yet to see her.

Cory headed to the office hoping he could find out if she was in school and it was just his class she had missed or what was going on.

" , what brings you down here?" asked as she saw the worried face of Cory Matthews.

Cory smiled, "Inquiring about a student of mine. We were supposed to meet today but she hasn't shown up to my class and so I was just curious."

"What student are we looking for?"

"Olivia. Olivia Jackson. Tiny, raven-haired girl, real quiet but real smart."

"Hmmm, let me take a look here and see," she mumbled under her breath as she typed away, "Olivia Jackson...yes, says here her mother called her in sick this morning. Left a message this morning."

"Thanks, that's all I needed."

"Are you sure everything is ok, Cory? You seem upset about something."

"I'm sure, just a busy time of year with finals and holidays."

"Ok, you take care dear."

"Thanks, , you as well."

Olivia and her mom sat across from each other at the kitchen table. It was a scene that was all too familiar to both of them. The last time two people had sat across from the kitchen table was the day Kevin walked out on both of them.

"Anyone know?" Erin asked as they both sat sipping bloody mary's.

"No," Olivia answered quickly, too quickly for Erin's liking. She raised an eyebrow at her kid and Olivia glanced down, "I don't think so. Someone may suspect."

"Who?"

" Mr. Matthews, my teacher," Olivia kept her eyes trained on the table, her hands wringing under the table, "He suspects but doesn't know. He doesn't know anything," Olivia didn't know why she felt the need to reiterate that but she did.

"That's problematic," Erin swirled a finger in her drink before taking a deep swallow, "You need to stop."

"You don't stop."

"I'm also at a legal drinking age." Olivia didn't respond, just stared her mom down. She was waiting for the moment when her mom would stop acting like her mom and start acting like, well whatever she acted like. "Also, I didn't mean stop drinking. If that's what you need to survive, then survive. I meant you need to stop getting caught. You can't be reckless and stupid because when you get reckless and stupid, people get called and people ask questions and you don't want people asking questions do you?"

"No."

"No what?" Erin stood up and started refilling her glass, "You don't get to stop respecting me because you drink like me."

"No ma'am." Olivia watched her mom took another swig of her drink and laughed to herself. She thought for a moment that her mom actually cared about her but realized her mom only cared about protecting herself and she shouldn't have been surprised.

"Good, now scram. I don't need you hanging around here."

Olivia didn't have to be told twice. She shoved her chair back and booked it to her room.
