Jennifer Baratta - Maggie's decent to madness will sped up if Lena has her way

Guest (1) - Thanks! I'll try to have more frequent updates, but I can't promise anything at the moment.

Guest (2) - Thanks for the prompt. I currently still have no plans to write anything new, but I will save your ideas.

"We need to talk." Kara said as she entered her apartment and headed straight to the bedroom. "I hate to be thinking this, but it has been bugging me all day. I don't want to believe it. But I have to ask." She added as she got Simon out.

"You heard Alex the other day. Landon has been scheming from the start and everything he has done has been for a reason. So if he did everything for a reason, did he plan for me to take you? If he did, did he plan for me to switch you?" Kara asked Simon. "What am I saying? How could I doubt you? Even if I did doubt you, Alex tested you. So I know there isn't anything wrong with you. But there is still the possibility Landon wanted me to have you."

"Only if Alex didn't know you pulled the switch, how could Landon have predicted it?" Lena asked making her presence known from the doorway.

"Lena? Hey, what are you doing here?" Kara asked spinning round, hiding the sock.

"Would you two like me to go?" Lena asked.

"What? No. I just thought you were having an early night to recover from all the late nighters you have been pulling." Kara said bringing her sock covered hand round to her front as Lena shut the door.

"That was my plan. But Alex dropped by to see Maggie. I thought they might want space."

"You were booted out of your own apartment?"

"I chose to go."

"You left Alex with an open bar?" Kara asked.

"I thought she had cut back?"

"She has, but if she and Maggie argue then that restraint make go out of the window."

"Well the drinks are replaceable. Unlike Simon." Lena pointed out. "It sounded like you were doubting him."

"I'm doubting Landon. Simon is caught in the crossfire." Kara said looking down at the sock.

"As weird as your relationship with the so-, Simon, is, like I said if Alex couldn't predict the switch, what chance did Landon have? Even if he was an outstanding shrink, no one knows you better than Alex."

"So Simon is innocent?" Kara asked looking down at the sock.

"Like I said, even if Landon had intended for you to take Simon, there is no way he could have known you would pull the switch." Lena assured her.

"Sorry for doubting you." Kara said to Simon.

"Landon aside, I really think you need to talk to someone about your guilt complexes." Lena said.

As Lena and Kara sat watching a movie the door opened, surprising both of them.

"Lena? How did you get here so fast?" Alex asked confused when she entered Kara's apartment and saw the Luthor.

"What do you mean so fast?" Lena asked confused.

"How did you beat me here? I was on my bike."

"By leaving two hours ago." Lena suggested.

"You left two hours ago?" Alex asked confused.

"Yes, I thought you'd want some space. You didn't know I had left my apartment?" Lena asked.

"No."

"You are losing your edge." Lena said. "But if it safe to return I will leave you to it." She said looking from one sister to the other. Looking back at Alex she added. "I assume from you being here Maggie will not be Little Miss Sunshine when I return?"

"That's a safe bet." Alex agreed.

"I thought you were going over there to smooth things over?" Kara asked.

"I was. And I did."

"But?"

"Maggie asked if I was dropping my crusade and I said I wasn't going to lie to her anymore."

"And?" Lena prompted.

"That was it. I didn't want to lie so I didn't deny it."

"Then what happened?" Kara asked.

"Maggie asked if I was going to be spending the night thinking about my latest entrapment plan. Again I answered with silence. So she said I may as well be here with you conspiring."

"Maggie's loss is my gain." Kara said.

"Well I will see you tomorrow." Lena said leaving the apartment.

"You okay?" Kara asked Alex who stood in silence.

"Do you think I'm crazy?" Alex asked.

"Well yeah." Kara said.

"I'm serious." Alex replied.

"Look, having be shown Jerry Springer by you when I arrived, I don't know what counts as crazy or normal on this planet. But I do know I will always trust you and your instinct."

"That didn't go so well with dad." Alex pointed out as she sat next to Kara on the couch.

"It kind of did. I mean he protected you when you broke into the Cadmus base." Kara reminded her. "It may not have played out the way you thought or wanted. But ultimately you were right."

"I love your outlook on life." Alex said leaning against Kara.

"Back then I didn't believe in you and I nearly lost you forever. I won't make that mistake again." Kara said hugging her.

"Thank you." Alex said.

"Regarding Maggie, the best way for her to forgive you is to prove that you are right." Kara said. "So how are we going to nail him?"

"Alex, Kara. Please sit down." Landon said. As they sat down, staring at him coldly, he added. "I understand that the Director talked with you."

"Then you'll understand we really don't want to be here." Kara replied.

"You have never wanted to be here. But I hope that will change with time." Landon said.

"You are meant to be someone we can trust." Alex pointed out. "You deliberately deceived us. So why would we ever trust you?" Alex asked.

"My intention has only ever been to help you."

"Hell is full of good intentions." Kara pointed out. Noticing the strange looks she was getting she added. "It's a quote from Saint Bernard."

"We've heard the quote, I just don't think either of us were expecting you to say it." Landon said. "I admit my methods were not conventional, but I really did just want to help you and I believe I did. My hope now is we can move on."

"Even if you were telling the truth, all that means is you acknowledged from the start we would never trust you. So why are we here? If there was no hope of us trusting you before you betrayed us, why trust you now?" Alex pressed.

"You are saying that once you are betrayed by someone you can never trust them?" Landon asked.

"Yes." Alex said.

"And you agree?" He asked Kara.

"Yes."

"Yet you forgave Astra. You forgave Alex."

"Are you saying she shouldn't have?" Alex asked.

"No I am saying it is possible to move on." Landon argued.

"I loved Astra, I love Alex. That is more powerful than the pain of betrayal." Kara stated. "But no matter what your twisted mind may think I have never loved you and I will never forgive you."

"That's a good point. How did the fake sexual harassment claim fit into you master plan?" Alex asked Landon.

"I misread the situation." Landon said. "For which I have apologised."

"In a hollow way. Face it, we don't trust you, we won't ever trust you. So we are not going to confide in you." Alex said.

"Okay then we won't talk." Landon said. "You two can sit here in silence."

"Suits me." Alex said as Kara asked.

"As in complete silence?"

"If that is what you want." Landon replied.

"Well can I do things?" Kara asked after a minute.

"Like what?"

"Draw. Jess let me draw and gave me cake."

"And evicted you for lying." Landon reminded her.

"When I was in fact telling the truth."

"False accusations seems to be a thing with therapists." Alex said. "So either you are all attention seekers or your whole profession is a load of hokum."

"Don't you think that is a rather dangerous extrapolation?" Landon asked.

"Says the man who falsely accused my sister of harassment and deliberately deceived us." Alex pointed out. "What's next? Attempted murder under the rouse of treatment?"

"Statistically psychiatrists are much more likely to be killed by their patients than the other way round." Landon said.

"Are you accusing me of attempted murder?" Kara asked.

"No. I was just pointing out that therapists aren't evil. Look, I know you love TV, but one of the most common tropes is the evilness of shrinks. They all turn into super sophisticated, Chianti-loving cannibals."

"Did you just quote Jake Peralta?" Kara asked impressed.

"I did. To prove a point. But to keep you happy Alex and bring science into this, there was a 2014 paper published by Hopson which found that psychiatry is overwhelmingly presented in a damagingly negative light in fiction."

"Let me guess, Hopson is a shrink?" Alex said.

"Actually she was an English Graduate." Kara said. Her knowledge surprising both Landon and Alex.

"Then why is she writing papers on psychiatry?" Alex asked confused.

"She had a masters in American Literature and was also a career patient." Kara replied. "I remember reading some of her papers in college."

"So just to be clear, you are using someone who is untrained and not a scientist, to accuse us of what exactly? Being gullible? Being cynical? At the end of the day if you wanted us to trust you shouldn't have tried to act like season 2 Dr. Reisman." Alex argued.

"Who?" Landon asked confused.

"Seriously? You know Peralta but not Reisman?" Kara asked in disbelief. "But ignoring your complete lack of knowledge of life, Hopson missed the point that stereotypes exist for a reason." Kara argued. "There are plenty of examples of manipulating evil shrinks in the real world. Just look at Gotham and all their crazy shrinks. Dr Crane, Dr Strange, Dr Quinzel."

"Basing any argument on Gotham is probably not representative." Landon answered.

"Fine, then Dr Dr Valerie Murphy." Kara said.

"Was not evil. And that is a tragic example, but not representative of the profession." Landon argued. "At the end of the day it is easy to portray someone like me as a villain, it makes life easier for the author. The reason why fictional shrinks are portrayed as bad is not because of stereotypes, but laziness."

"Dr Hannibal Lecter wasn't an act of laziness, his character was complex and well thought through." Kara argued as Alex sat as a mere onlooker.

"I assure you I have no intention of killing you or eating you." Landon replied.

"Seeing we can't trust you, we won't take your word on that." Alex said.

"Can we report this to Pam?" Kara asked. "I mean it would not look good to her if one employee ate another."

"That's true." Alex said.

"You want to give up another Saturday for an HR seminar?" Landon asked.

"Were you trying to threaten us into remaining silent?" Alex asked.

"No."

"It sounded like you were." Alex said. "I think we should leave." She said standing. An action quickly copied by Kara.

As Kara followed Alex down the corridor she realised they were heading towards the HR lair and asked, her tone worried.

"Wait, we are not really going to Pam are we?"

"No, of course not. But by walking this way Landon will think we are." Alex pointed out.
