Author's Note (Monster): Hi guys! Truth be told, as an introvert, I'm enjoying the lockdown so far. The only downside would be the inability to see Mattie, like that shit hurts. I'm a soft boi, I need me boyfriend. Hope you're all staying happy and healthy wherever you are. I've been listening a lot of Smash Into Pieces lately and I'm feeling the urge to write Friend Like You - Smash Into Pieces a songfic but with the lockdown and everyone in my fam at home, I'm not left with a lot of privacy to write. That's sort of a problem for this story soon since I have yet to write its smut scene. I may have to write next chapter depending on whether or not I find the transition smooth enough but my OCD really... really wants me to hit 25 as chapter total instead of 23. Enjoy!

Previously on Savage;

With Johnny's colleagues breathing down his neck and challenging him to find a mate within the week, he commits another Alpha crime; he commands J-Dog to smuggle Danny's file home from work.

Johnny 3 Tears' POV

I wasn't proud of the command I ensued onto J-Dog. It was illegal to use my Alpha command for these purposes. Imagine if everyone did it like I just did. It would be unfair to Omegas or Betas to bend their will in such manipulative ways. So of course I felt guilty for having done so!

"Here", J-Dog grumbled, throwing the file out in front of my nose. Several notes inside scattered over the table and I gave him a disapproving frown but I understood his dismay. "I'm only doing this because I want what's best for us, and even Danny."

Jay gave me a mocking laugh. "How is this what's best for Danny?"

"He won't be pestered by other Alpha anymore", I argued.

"You mean Alphas who manipulate him and force him into unpleasant situations? Yeah, you're totally saving him from that", Jay rolled his eyes. "I'm on your side, Johnny. I would love for you to mate Danny after all these years."

"I don't know what you're talking about", I muttered.

J-Dog shook his head. "I know lovesick when I see it, boss, I've been there. Try not to use the file too much, okay?"

"I won't", I promised.

Before J-Dog left the room, he pivoted. "Oh and you better have Kurlzz bake me a big ass thank you cake!"

"Won't that be Kurlzz' burden instead of mine to repay you?" I wondered aloud.

J-Dog hummed in response. "Sure, but it's cake so who the fuck cares?"

"True", I shrugged before opening the folder. I wasn't even sure if there would be anything in there to help me speed up the process of dating Danny. Though after ploughing through the file, I finally found some notes that could help me. They were exactly what I'd been hoping to find.

And more.

Danny's POV

I balanced myself on top of the wooden ledge, arms stretched out and placed one foot after another. Johnny had his hands shoved in the pocket of his vest. The gaze he offered me now and then was one of fondness and admiration. I liked that about the way he looked at me. I reached the end of the ledge and beckoned for him to come closer. He took my hand into his own to help me down but I jumped with enthusiasm. In a fraction of a second, Johnny caught me, both arms around my waist, holding me off the ground. He let go and my feet touched the ground. He seemed ashamed of the reflex but I understood.

The Alpha was built to protect an Omega from injury. Though that instinct only applied to objects harming the Omega unfortunately, I bitterly added to the thought.

I gave him one of my brightest smiles, one I hadn't shown to many people – a grateful one.

Johnny deserved it and that made me happy.

I hopped towards the fence of the habitat and leaned onto it with my elbows. "I used to come here with my family."

I felt Johnny's presence near me as he joined me by the fence. He was overlooking the habitat of the wolves. "Really?"

"Yeah, that's why I was so eager to join you", I admitted. Johnny nodded in response. "What a fun coincidence."

"I'm the only Omega in my family – apart from my mother of course. My brothers are Alpha males. My parents often took us to the zoo", I reminisced. I leaned my chin into my arms, ducking my head. "Wolves have alphas and omegas too, you know."

"So I've heard, vaguely", Johnny replied, voice a little hoarse because of how quiet he attempted to speak. He most likely didn't want to disturb my upcoming memories. I appreciated it.

"When I was little, my father pointed at the pack of wolves and told me that the omega was often disciplined by the alpha. The same way a mother wolf would grab her pup by the muzzle when it would misbehave", I sighed. "It's a sad and submissive life for the omega, always ducking their heads and trying not to anger the alpha but unfortunately, an omega often took the alpha's frustration."

"That's an unfortunate position for those wolves", Johnny agreed.

I looked up at him. "My mother then slapped my father and told me that an omega wasn't a punching bag for the alpha. He was more of a court jester. Sure, ridiculed by the elite and the king, but often the one to initiate fun in calm and relaxed times. That's what an omega does. They try to brighten the day, no matter how much abuse they've had to take."

Johnny didn't respond and I was done talking. When I was a kid, I'd always thought it was a funny story they were telling me about wolves being compared to jesters but now I knew better. My father had been trying to tell me to walk the submissive road and respect the dominant people as I was a loud brat. My mother had tried to tell me to never let Alphas take away the light inside of me.

I made a mental note to visit my parents soon. It had been way too long since I had seen them.

"I wouldn't be able to tell an alpha from an omega wolf", Johnny admitted. He shrugged. "If anything, I find them beautiful creatures."

I smiled. "I don't think the story was just about wolves."

"I know", Johnny added before he smirked. "You're beautiful too, if that's what you wanted to hear."

I chuckled. "That's not what I meant."

"But you are, though. You're soft too", Johnny stuck out his tongue. It was so unlike him to do that that I couldn't help but laugh. "You're awful."

"I know", Johnny acknowledged.

We watched the wolves lay on the ground, lazily lifting their head in our direction. I pushed myself away from the fence and grabbed Johnny's hand. "Come on, I wanna see the lions now!"

"We've got plenty of time to see them all", Johnny assured me but I shook my head, still pulling him along. "With me? Nah, you won't have enough time in the world to see everything here."

"Won't you get sick of walking in circles then?" he asked.

I shook my head. "I can spend hours here just fine."

"Even with me?"

"Especially with you."

Please leave a review, they're our heavy fuel.

I think I wrote this chapter to Stay by Smash Into Pieces even. Anyway, Danny is a feisty rebel but on certain occasions, especially when he's feeling insecure or trying to date, his submissive nature as a Omega takes over. I like to think Danny hates that side of himself usually but now he's not even noticing how that side is taking over.
