The piercing echo of the alarm rang through the quiet of the bedroom, the peaceful state of slumber broken by the painful sound of reality. The displeased groans of sleepiness mumbling from beneath the warm comfort of the bed-sheets. Neither of them had ever been morning people and barely tolerated how early they had to be awake for a work day. Bubba generally going to sleep early just to get enough sleep to be sociable or drinking coffee through the day, Marshall ran on pure caffeine boosts until he hit burn out and began to hate being at work altogether, with hugs from Bubba getting him through the day. But their brief time away from work had been a blessing, allowing them to lie in for some time and just have time with each other. Not having to stress about marking exams, lesson planning or having to deal with annoying teenagers for hours on end. Just being able to spend time with each other and occasionally their friends. Being able to laugh and joke around without a care in the world, ignoring their responsibilities for a while.

Cursing himself for not putting his phone on silent so he could have enjoyed sleep a little longer, Bubba groaned sleepily annoyed to have been so rudely awoken from his sweet dreams. Gumball reached out from under the bed-sheets sleepily, patting his hand wearily around the bedside table for his phone. His head slumped onto his pillow, exhaustion still wracking his body and preventing him from fully acknowledging the time. He was too tired to function, irritable and not really in the mood to yell at whoever was calling him to stop calling him. Just why did anyone think that it was ok to call anyone before the sun was fully up? Apparently he wasn't the only one who didn't appreciate the phone call. Beside him, Marshall rolled over and growled sleepily. Burying his head deeper under the covers, moaning in complaint at his sleep being disturbed by the phone. Wrapping his arm sleepily around Bubba's waist protectively.

No matter whether they were napping, cuddling or out in public, Marshall hated being apart from Bubba. Often texting him during lessons when they were apart, smothering him in affection when they were finally reunited with one another. Marshall was a very physically affectionate person and a romantic at heart, always letting Bubba know he was loved. However, he was capable of embarrassment and awkwardness whenever they were alone or Bubba surprised him with something he wasn't expecting of him. But one thing he knew was to never wake Marshall up from sleep before he was fully awake, for he was a grumpy bunny "Bubba, turn off the alarm babe…" he wanted to sleep a little longer and they had no plans today, he wasn't eager for when they really would have to get up early tomorrow for work and he was dreading it. If Bubba had accidentally set the alarm by mistake he would understand, however that didn't mean he wasn't peeved about it.

Bubba sighed impatiently, reaching out to grab his glasses weakly to lazily pull them over his face. He peered at his phone screen to peer at his phone, relief and annoyance coming across his face. It was no alarm, it was, in fact, a phone call, from someone at work. Just who on earth would be calling him at this hour? Nobody he wasn't friends with outside of work called him unless it was about business or meetings, unless it was urgent couldn't it wait? He rubbed his eyes wearily, considering hanging up and simply ignoring the call. Rolling over and returning to his blanket burrito to snuggle up to his boyfriend a little longer. But he knew the frustration of missed calls especially when it was important. He saw the caller ID was Fionna from their school.

Fionna was a personal close friend of his and he did truly care about her. However, due to her naivety of his sexual orientation and romantic involvement with Marshall. It made things awkward for him given they were both aware of her crush on him. He sighed heavily under his breath, mentally preparing himself to face her usual flirtations and also hoping to further get across to her that he wasn't interested in pursuing a relationship. "Good morning Fionna, may I help you?" he asked calmly, his tone filled with exhaustion. Was she aware of that it was still an ungodly hour and many people of the world were still trying to sleep?

Fionna was a ball of energy and loved being active, she enjoyed having fun and bonding with people she cared about. While he admired her self confidence and enthusiasm when it came to her job and finding activities to entertain herself, sometimes her ignorance of understanding social situations or reading people's body language could be problematic. "H… Hey Bubba, I… I um… are you free this afternoon? I was wondering if you wanted to play catch or something" Fionna stammered anxiously down the phone.

Gumball mentally cursed, facepalming himself in frustration at her unrelenting intent to date him. He appreciated her affections for him and her loyalty, however, he couldn't return her feelings due to being utterly disinterested in the female gender whatsoever. Yes, he enjoyed spending time with her and bonding with her on a platonic level, he truly enjoyed her company and cared about her greatly. However, over time he became painfully aware of how flustered and awkward Fionna acted around him, the same way he acted around Marshall, love. Fionna had a harmless girlish crush on him however, he knew giving her hope would only end up hurting her in the long term. Fionna deserved more than that, she was a good person and he needed to be honest. He wondered if Cake or Ash had clued her in at any point that he was taken or not interested in her. Cake was very protective and hated Fionna getting into trouble or getting hurt. Because she was so kind, she was often taken advantage of by others due to not fully understanding when people were actually teasing her.

Marshall grumbled, pressing his face against Bubba's back fondly. Nuzzling his nose against his back, peppering kisses across his back, trailing upwards towards his neck. Smiling into his kisses, aware this wound wind up Bubba. Bubba stiffened, holding his breath as he felt Marshall moving closer towards his neck. His skin tingling as he felt pleasurable feelings filling his body as he tried to bite back his voice. His body now accustomed to Marshall Lee's touch, knowing just how to wind him up. He peered back to shoot a glare at Marshall, warning him to stop and that Fionna would hear. Marshall only smirked back at him, his brownish-red eyes full of mischief. He was enjoying this. He knew that while he was on the phone there was nothing stopping him from doing what he wanted. He was enjoying this and making the most of it before Bubba punished him for causing him trouble. Honestly Marshall could be so childish and mischievous it was exhausting, but it was also what Bubba loved so much about him, that rebellious streak of his.

"Um… Bubba? You still there?" Fionna asked patiently, he was acting off and she was worried about him. It felt like he had been avoiding her lately and she had noticed he had been spending a lot of time with Marshall lately despite them not really getting along in the past. She didn't know what was going on and she wanted answers, she didn't like people keeping secrets from her like this.

Bubba coughed awkwardly, nudging Marshall away who just laughed playfully and tried to kiss him. Keeping him at arm's length so Fionna wouldn't get suspicious "I… I have plans, Fionna, I'm sorry… maybe another time?" he apologised profusely. He knew she must have been feeling lonely and dejected, missing the companionship of someone who was supposed to be her friend. He would make it up to her sometime and explain the craziness that was his life, but now was not the best time for them to reveal their relationship. That would be way too awkward, having to talk about the phone call while they were at school together. But at least they could laugh about it later on.

The line went quiet, Fionna upset about being rejected and pushed away. He knew she had a hard time making friends due to not being able to fit in with most girls her age. Wondering if she had heard Marshall in the background, aware she and Marshall were also close friends making this very awkward indeed. "I… I see… ok" she mumbled despondently. Bubba felt so terrible, he hadn't been spending a lot of time with his friends recently and he felt guilty. After developing a relationship with Marshall, he had taken up all his free time. Enjoying the bliss of having him all to himself. He had just never thought that Marshall would be interested in someone as plain as him or that a potential relationship with him was ever possible. Dedicated to admiring him from afar and daydreaming until he finally found a boyfriend that he could be happy with. Little did he ever think that he would become his crushes boyfriend and become as happy as he was right now. The boy he had admired for what felt like forever finally becoming his lover.

Fionna was a sweet and strong-willed girl, any guy who dated her would be the luckiest person alive. But he wasn't going to be the one who would make her happy. But that didn't make her heartache any less painful. Fionna was mocked for being a tomboyish female even by fellow teachers as well as students. Though she hid it well she secretly dealt with insecurities and self-consciousness. Telling her would shatter he and he knew it, but it was crueler to lie to her. He would tell her about his personal life eventually when he was ready and hopefully she would take it well. Coming out to her was just something that never came up, remembering how anxious he had been when he told his own parents about such a personal part of his life. But that didn't mean that Fionna would never find love of her own with someone else. Recently after talking around with Lumpy Space Prince, he was aware that Evan Sparks a half fire sprite and the English teacher had a crush on Fionna. Following her around and mooning over her nearly every time he saw her. Pretty much acting like puppy love every time he saw her. He was socially awkward and loved literature much like Simone, who also acted like a maternal figure towards him. So conveying his feelings towards Fionna was difficult for him. He was often hiding in the library wearing fire protective gloves and curled up in the corner reading books, sometimes sitting in the staff room getting lost in their pages with a look of wonder. The one thing that distracted him from the world of books was Fionna, staring at her with a look of wonder like she was an angel incarnate."Um… you know Evan may appreciate the gesture. I know he has a hard time making friends and I know you would help him come out of his shell" he suggested.

Fionna went quiet in surprise. He knew Fionna was also rather dense at times, unaware when people showed an interest in her. However, with his help, they both could find happiness with someone. They were both outsiders and loners, they would be able to understand one another's feelings better than most, giving them something to bond over. "I… are you sure? I mean… does he like sports?" she asked shyly. She was aware of his powers, though in recent years he had become better at controlling them. Due to them being empathic, connected to his emotions and moods.

Gumball smiled, sensing the shyness and hesitation in his voice. "Fi, you know better than anyone what it's like to be an outcast. I think he would appreciate it" he reassured her. He needed someone who would understand loneliness and prejudice, his mother had always tried to make him act mean or push people around with his powers. But that was not the kind of person he wanted to be and Fiona could help him be that person. She had a good heart and she would never let Evan deal with his hardships alone. Allowing them to bond naturally and let their chemistry build over time.

Fionna softened, obviously she was considering the options which he appreciated. He would tell her the truth eventually, but he wasn't out to everyone yet. Even some of his students had no idea that he was gay. He hated having to lie to her like this but it was what felt safer right now, before he had to face the scary truth. "Kay Bubba… but… promise me we'll hang out soon?" she begged. She missed him, he felt so distant lately. She didn't know what was going on in his head or his personal life but she wouldn't let him cope with it on his own.

Bubba smiled, yes he would hang out with her soon. But once he had cleared his head and felt comfortable telling her about his relationship with Marshall. "Yeah, I promise" he reassured her. He then hung up the phone and huffed, flipping his head back to glare at Gumball in frustration. Elbowing him in retaliation before grabbing a pillow and slamming it at Marshall's head. He really knew how to choose his moments to cause mischief and potentially get them in trouble. He liked keeping his personal life private from work associates, what if she overheard something embarrassing or inappropriate, he would never be able to look her in the eye again. Just what was he trying to achieve by doing that? "Damn it, Marshall, why while I'm on the phone!" he snapped in resentment. He would get him back for this and if he thought he was in a mood to return to cuddling again he was very much mistaken. He was justifyingly mad at him and he needed to learn that what he had done was wrong. Did he have any idea of how awkward that was and how much of a panic he was in due to Fionna calling him like that out of the blue.

Marshall smirked in amusement, oh how cute Bubba was when he was angry. It only made him want to tease him further just to get his reaction. He just loved him so much "Sorry babe, you're just so cute in the morning" he winked playfully. Fionna would figure it out on her own or she would just assume he was acting odd or she called at a wrong time. He could talk to her about it at another time so she could get some idea of what was going on. She would have to figure it out eventually, one way or the other. He knew from personal experience how crappy it was for someone you had a crush on to lead you along and keep secrets. Nothing made you feel worse, knowing they had been lying to you the whole time and giving you false hope. But he understood Bubba's reasons, so he knew why he would want to keep it hidden. But he would find a balance between it, one way or another.

Bubba pouted, yes he loved Marshall more than he could admit. He felt so safe and content with Marshall like he could tell him anything. But he was often troublesome and annoying, just loving to get into trouble. He loved to embarrass him on what felt like a daily basis to get a reaction, like he was playing some form of a game. He reached out to pinch Marshall roughly on the cheek causing the latter to whine in the complaint. Gripping his sore cheek and stroking it gently, trying to ease the ache in his face. "Marshall, Fionna has no idea I'm gay. If she tells everyone it will get around school. I'm only out to my closest friends and family. I don't want to put myself in trouble" he whispered. He wanted to protect what they had, what they had built, painfully aware of what would happen if the wrong people found out. He wanted to keep himself and Marshall safe, when he wanted to make their relationship public he would. But for now it was their personal life and private, and that way it would stay until he felt comfortable.

Marshall Lee softened, he remembered how terrifying it was when he came out to his parents and Simone. Afraid of how his life would change, but soon he adapted and Simone had been by his side the whole way. He had been supported by the people closest to him in his life, giving him the courage to fully accept himself and live his life in a happier state of mind. He wouldn't let Bubba deal with his problems alone, standing by his side proudly through thick and thin. He had helped Bubba when he was assaulted for being gay in public, he loved the guy with all his heart. He would fight tooth and claw for Bubba, anything to keep him safe and make him feel loved. He then reached over to wrap his arms around Bubba, nuzzling his nose into his neck and breathing in his sweet scent. Sleepily resting his face onto his shoulder, his brain still fuzzy from exhaustion. It was too early to be thinking about this, but sometimes life was weird like that, bringing random thoughts to mind and causing you to reflect a little. "Sorry, Bubba….I guess... I'm just selfish. I don't like sharing you, I'm scared of losing you. Especially after those guys harassed you in public. I just… I want you safe" he whispered sombrely. Knowing what could have happened to Bubba if he hadn't been able to save him, that thought terrified him, knowing that was a real danger.

Bubba flinched, his heart filling with conflict and yet adoration. Knowing Marshall loved him so much and was so afraid of losing him. Knowing that meeting and falling for Marshall had been the best decision he ever made. He was jealous when girls at school would flirt with Marshall, he saw the way people looked at him and he wasn't naïve as to why. Losing Marshall terrified him, being alone again without anyone to love him. He then squeezed Marshall, pulling him close and knocking him over causing him to fall atop Marshall. Pinning him under him on the bed, taking the latter's surprise and making him blush. "Dummy, I love you too. You don't think I get anxious and selfish sometimes too?" he snapped awkwardly. He stared down at Marshall with flushed cheeks, biting his lips and trying to remain calm and rational. There was a long silence, Bubba staring down at Marshall impatiently, the latter staring back at him in shock and his cheeks flushing with embarrassment.

A fond smile spread across his face slowly, smirking to himself and biting his lip as he held back the urge to laugh. But he had to admit that Bubba was adorable when he was mad. How easy it was to fluster him and cause him to react brashly, always wearing his heart on his sleeve. But he understood him better than anyone, allowing him to lower his guard and show his weakness to Bubba more than he had anyone in his entire life. They were just so right for each other, like everything made sense when they were together and never when they were apart. He reached up slowly to cup Bubba's cheek fondly, stroking his thumb across his skin and gazing back at him silently. Adoration and love filling his eyes and expression instantly. "Guess sometimes I forget, you make me feel so happy like I'm living in a dream. I look into your eyes and I feel like I'm on cloud nine" he chuckled.

Gumball chuckled under his breath, biting his lip and rolling his eyes. They were just as bad as each other, both anxious, selfish and clingy, so in love and desperate not to lose each other. Being able to make breakfast, have coffee dates, steal glances at work and just do stupid mushy things together was the best thing ever. The silly things that made them so happy. Realising how much they loved each other, just how wonderful it felt to have your feelings returned after pining after one another after what felt like forever. "I love you, Marshall, so much.." he whispered.

Marshall's expression softened, whenever he looked into Bubba's eyes he felt himself melt like butter. He never thought someone could make him feel so whole after his messy childhood. Having adapted to independence rather easily due to having no other option, learning to take care of himself and rely on no one. But it wasn't until Bubba and Simone came into his life that he realised just how lonely that life had been and how much he craved companionship. He reached down to grab his collar and yank it lightly, pouting slightly at the lack of affection he was receiving. "Shut up and kiss me already" he growled. He was feeling neglected.

Bubba stood by the stove, tending attentively to breakfast humming under his breath. Wearing a protective apron in case of splashes. The scent of pancakes and bacon filling the room. Making sure to clean away his messy cooking utensils as to not make a clutter, liking to keep his area tidy. A habit he had picked up due to teaching students cooking for so long. But this had also allowed him to broaden his intellect when it came to cooking, able to test his recipes out on Marshall whom had no complaints on the matter. He knew Marshall loved his cooking, he loved spoiling his partner with his cooking and seeing his delighted reaction. How he instantly melted like butter and puffy cheeked with pure childish delight. He had come to learn that over time Marshall Lee had a weakness for food, to be blunt sweet food. He adored Bubba's baking and was often seen lingering around his classroom after a session. Hoping to collect leftovers as snacks to nibble on during his coffee break or while teaching. Something he happily indulged his boyfriend with, glad he appreciated his cooking to such an extent. There was a cup of coffee brewing on the side, as well as a fresh pot of tea for himself. Making sure that there was enough for more than one cup. Given they didn't have work till the morning, they could take things easy. Pottering about in the kitchen made him feel so domestic, like they were a married couple or something, making him blush. He then felt a pair of arms wrap around his waist, making him smile in amusement. Marshall kissing him fondly on the back of his neck, staring over his shoulder curiously at the frying pan in front of him. Gumball smiled in amusement "I'm cooking Marshall, I don't want to splash you" he teased.

Marshall peered over his shoulder, the delicious scents of breakfast wafting up to his nose. His stomach gurgling eagerly, waiting to be filled with Bubba's cooking. His mouth-watering with hunger. He always knew that whenever Bubba was cooking it was sure to be delicious. Enjoying boasting to other people about how skilled his boyfriend was in the kitchen, hoping to make them jealous and pleased when they were. "Your such a good cook babe, I'm so spoiled" he groaned. He never went hungry so long as he had Bubba in his life, though he did worry about putting on too much weight or the sugar damaging his cheeks.

Gumball chuckled, nudging Marshall fondly and turning his head to kiss him on the cheek. They would need a hefty breakfast to give them energy through the day for blood sugar "Can you look out the plates please babe?" he asked. He didn't want the pancakes to burn after all the effort he had put into preparing all this in time. They didn't have that many ingredients to make a second batch to replace these. Marshall pouted but removed himself from Bubba to prepare the table for breakfast.

"Have you thought of any new music babe? Your so skilled, you should perform live or something" Bubba suggested, taking another deliciously syrupy mouthful in delight. These had turned out perfectly, so soft and fluffy on the inside and perfectly baked on the outside, soaked perfectly with syrup and fruit. He swore he was on cloud nine right now, nothing could ruin his perfect mood. It was funny how comfort food could make you feel like it was the best day ever, boosting you up to face whatever life had in store for you.

Marshall shifted, nearly coughing on his coffee and dropping his fork. His cheeks flushing with embarrassment, averting Bubba's gaze. He remembered performing that song for Bubba that he wrote about truth was he loved writing music and teaching students about music. However, his songwriting meant the world to him and he wanted to perform live someday. He had some friends in a band but they didn't get many gigs. He was terrified of not being able to make it, losing his job due to getting ahead of himself. His school was secure and familiar, though he had played sometimes at bars. He hadn't been to a live gig night in awhile. He had been leaving flyers everywhere at college bars, local bars, cafe's and even nightclubs but so far nobody had gotten back to him. No responses even when they asked to perform for free just to test the waters. Nobody was interested in their talent or even seeing if they were any good, which wasn't doing any good to his confidence. Wondering if he would be nothing but a high school music teacher for the rest of of his life. This was just a temp job to pay his bills until he reached his dream goal. But that was slowly slipping from his fingers and his frightening reality gnawing away at him "I… I just… I dunno… not many opportunities" he mumbled.

Gumball saw the fear in his eyes, he knew it was a big step and that failure was something he was scared of. But he believed in Marshall, he was so talented and he would make such a good career of himself. Things would be shaky, rejections would happen but all great musicians stumbled before they were truly able to make a career for themselves doing what they loved. Marshall was no different, he just needed to find his footing first. He reached out slowly, grasping his hand and stroking his knuckles. He could only imagine the anxieties that were running through his mind. "I… I know how scary first times can be. Going into unknown territory, but I'll be there alongside you the whole way. I love you so much, so you won't be alone".He would help him find gig events, he would make sure his friends were alongside him. That they would be there to support him the whole way. Helping him to achieve his dream.

Marshall blushed, his worries and fears easing away into smoke. Gripping Bubba's hand in return, he was so lucky to have Bubba in his life. Pushing him to achieve his dreams and make himself happy. He felt like he could touch the moon itself if he reached out hard enough, anything he wanted was within reach. Bubba just had to be magic, because he had never felt braver in his life. "You… you think I'm good enough" he asked hesitantly, what if the crowd laughed or even joked at him? He wouldn't be able to take it.

Bubba scoffed, was he really so modest? He had plenty of things he could be bragging about to the whole world. "Marshall, you play the guitar better than anyone I know. You write songs off the top of your head, you're a skilled person, Marshall. You can do this" he reassured him. If people couldn't appreciate his skills they were fools, because he knew just what Marshall was capable of and that he would go far. He just needed help taking that first step into the unknown before he found his footing and ran into the distance without fear. Making the life he dreamed of a reality, instead of remaining as a fantasy instead.

Marshall's cheeks flushed with colour, butterflies filling his stomach like a storm of happiness. Nobody had ever believed in him before, not the way Bubba did. His mother had always been emotionally distant and physically absent his whole of his sexuality, his love of music or his affection starved life. How she was never around unless it was convenient for her, leaving him to fend for himself. He rarely got calls or letters from her unless she wanted something for personal gain, over time he had learned to ignore them or destroy them, just to forget she ever existed or made his life a living hell. He bit his lip and laughed under his breath, flashing his white fangs. "God, Bubba… you… I can't even…" he chuckled. He felt so lucky to have him in his life. He ran a hand through his hair in frustration, peering up at his boyfriend, his brownish-red eyes full of affection and adoration. He was so in love with Bubba, he felt like he was going crazy. He always made him lunches, he always brought him food, he was always worried about him. He was empathetic and perceptive, never leaving him alone if he felt there was trouble. He was the first secure relationship he had experienced in a long time and made him realise that he was safe. He squeezed Bubba's hand in a silent response of gratitude, he was scared of making the step into the music business. But he knew Bubba would never let him ignore the possibility of making it a reality. "Ok Bubba, for you, I'll try" he promised.

Bubba leaned across the table, capturing Marshall's lips in a syrupy sweet kiss. The addictive taste of sugar and bubblegum filling his mouth, feeling as though he was drunk on sweetness. He gazed fondly into Marshall's eyes taking in his every emotion, still stroking his cheek to comfort him. "I'll be there every step of the way" he promised. No matter what was thrown at them, they would get through it together and come out the end stronger.

Bubba sat quietly on the sofa, his glasses resting atop his nose as he flipped through his paperwork. Sighing heavily as he wandered through his lesson plans and what he would make for the students this week. He was slowly growing bored with dealing with selfish and lazy students who never appreciated him coming into work to teach them what was treated as a leisure topic was actually an essential skill when you were older and independent. Nobody paid much attention to his cooking, let alone what they were learning. Enjoying messing around on their phones, joking around or making the few that did pay attention do all the work. So he had to work to make them pay attention. Though he tried to act professional, sometimes he was so tempted to snap and just let rip on what he was really feeling about their disrespectful treatment towards him. Take away all their phones until the end of the lesson and make sure they had no option but to participate whether they liked it or not. Sometimes he wondered why he even tried, why didn't he just quit and get a job for a catering business or a patisserie? It would be so much more fulfilling than working at a school with lazy students. If Marshall wanted to be a musician and leave his school, why not admit that he mutually hated his job and find something he truly cared about too? Nothing ventured, nothing gained after all. He knew people quitting their job and running away for love was mocked, but in this case why not? He was finally with a guy he had spent what felt like forever he had been crushing on. The guy was planning on leaving too and enjoying a musical career, so why shouldn't he take it into consideration too? Though he would miss his friends it wasn't like he would never see them again, what with the rise of social media connecting to long distance friends would make things easier. They could still meet up and hang out whenever they wanted to.

His silence was broken by his boyfriend snapping him out of his thoughts "Don't think too hard Bubba, you'll give yourself a headache" Marshall teased fondly. Just what was going on in his mind. He had seemed a little off since he told him about his dream of becoming a professional musician. Wondering if he was scared of being abandoned or left behind. He would never do that to Bubba, he planned on keeping him by his side no matter what. Like he would give up on a boy whom he had been pining over for months.

Bubba groaned under his breath, running a hand through his hair. His stress was becoming obvious and even Marshall was able to see it, making him wonder if he was working too hard. Though the break away from school had been amazing and the breath of fresh air he so desperately needed, having to plan for everything was indeed stressful. "Sorry Marshall I… I just…. Why do I even try with lessons? Nobody gives a crap and even pays attention to me no matter how much effort I put in?". Though he did have some delightful students whom he was very fond of occasionally, he mostly ended up with students who couldn't be bothered whatsoever, he would have preferred if they skipped as it would be better to deal with. So he wouldn't feel like he was wasting his time educating them.

Marshall softened, he knew Bubba cared about his work and teaching students. He didn't feel valued or appreciated though and it was starting to show. Every teacher was forced to endure crappy students, but sadly Bubba was one of the teachers who got the most disrespect. "Well Bubba, if I leave to perform in bars, you should work in a bakery or run your own business. You'd make so much money" he suggested. He could work gigs during the night or day for customers, Bubba could make all sorts of delicious goods and serve them to happy customers. It was a win-win situation. He didn't want Bubba to suffer unnecessarily when he was so capable of finding work in other places.

Bubba pouted, but considered this as an option, if he considered pushing Marshall to achieve his dream then maybe he could do the same. So perhaps they could reach a mutual understanding and bargain. He then sighed, putting down his paperwork and looking Marshall dead in the eye. Holding up his hand to lift his pinky and lean towards Marshall. A silent agreement of achieving their dreams together. "If you work at a bar and end up becoming a regular performer, I'll quit school too and work at a bakery or café. Both leaving our crappy jobs for something better" he promised. He didn't want to leave his teaching if he didn't have security, it wasn't responsible to abandon your job for carefree decisions if everything fell apart. They were both adults and needed to be responsible through all of this, communicating and considering every option they had available.

Marshall blinked, was he planning to leave his job for his sake? He would go that far to make him happy? He couldn't quite believe it, nobody had ever done that for him before. He couldn't help but smile at how genuine his boyfriend was. He had always been forced to just settle with his exes, doing what they wanted to make them happy but never thinking of him. He leaned forward, linking his pinkie with Bubba's and leaning forward "It's a deal Bubba, lets try our best" he chuckled. This meant they would be pushing each other harder than before to get where they wanted to be. He then pulled Bubba forward, still gripping Bubba's finger. Bubba blinked in confusion, panicking as he felt himself falling forward. Marshall wrapping his arm around Bubba and pulling him close to his chest fondly. He wrapped his arms around Bubba, pulling him closer to his chest and closing the gap between them. Gazing Bubba down with his reddish-brown orbs with a look of tenderness. He nuzzled affectionately against Bubba's cheek, breathing in his sweet scent. He felt so calm, comforted and safe when he was around Bubba, he could stay like this forever. Even before he started dating Bubba he was acutely aware of how gentle, caring and kind he was, a warm person whom people quickly liked. His friends teased him but never had a bad thing to say about him, sure they complained but what friend didn't? For the first time he had found someone who was good for him. "You smell so good babe, I could just eat you all up" he teased.

Bubba blushed, his cheeks darkening to match the colour of his hair. His skin shivering as Marshall's lips lingered on his skin, making him shiver in delight and fear. Biting his lip as to restrain his voice, even when they were alone or at home he was scared to let out his voice out of embarrassment "M… Marshall.. wait…" he mumbled. Though he loved being spoiled by Marshall and his endless affection, they really had work to do and they needed to get this finished. He knew Marshall loved to mess around but there was a time and a place. Yet, he didn't want to push him away, craving Marshall's attention. He always wanted him close, he always wanted him near, where he could always find him.

Marshall smirked, he loved it when Bubba was embarrassed, all flustered and nervous. He looked so adorable, making it so much more entertaining to see his reaction. He allowed his lips to trail upwards past his collarbone to his neck. Bubba's neck was so soft and he smelled so good, he always smelled so sweet and delicious. He had lived off of red for most of his life, being a vampire he craved the colour and needed to feed. He had always wondered what Bubba would taste like. He licked Bubba's neck making him shudder with delight, gripping his arms around Marshall's shirt tightly, his arms wrapped around his back like a vice. "I just want a taste" Marshall teased, he would try not to make this painful. Demons had a higher tolerance to pain, which is why his ex girlfriend never minded it much but Bubba was different. He didn't know how things worked for him so he needed to warn him in case.

Bubba blinked, what did he mean by that. Suddenly, he felt a shiver run through his body and a sharp pain shooting through him abruptly. Something stabbing into his neck and surprising him. It took him a moment to realise what Marshall had been suggesting and what was about to happen, his brain finally clicking and putting the answers together. Marshall sank his fangs slowly into Bubba's neck before he could speak, the sweetness of his blood filling his lips and making his eyes widen with delight. He had always wondered what Bubba would taste like, but this was better than he thought it would be. It was like eating a peppermint and candy floss at the same time, an addictively sweet taste that he couldn't get enough from. He sank his fangs in deeper making Bubba whine in the complaint, he didn't sound like he was in pain though. He was moaning, restraining his voice and biting his lip. He was enjoying this. Bubba's blood was so sweet and delicious, he had never tried anything like it before in his life. "M….Marshall… ah…wait…" he mumbled, it stung a little bit but it wasn't too much. If Marshall needed red, he could have made or bought him something red. He didn't understand why he needed to feed from him unless he was really desperate, he just wished he had given him some warning beforehand.

Marshall took a deep breath, taking the last sip of what he needed. Slowly pulling away to remove his fangs from Bubba's neck, licking Bubba's neck gently to get rid of any mess. Kissing Bubba's neck afterwards to comfort him that he had done well. Gazing down at Bubba's flushed face fondly, he wouldn't be able to hold back if he kept being that cute. "Sorry babe, you just smell too good. I couldn't help myself" he teased. But he would make it up to him later, anything to spoil him to make him happy again. But he wouldn't need to bite him again for a while, he just enjoyed doing so occasionally.

Bubba pouted, gently reaching up to brush his fingers against his neck. Still in disbelief that Marshall had just bit him. I mean he knew he was a vampire but he tended to just eat red. But then again there was a lot he didn't know about Marshall, aware that his mother was a demon and his father was a human, making him a half breed and thus different from full blooded vampires. But he was aware being bitten by Marshall Lee was a very personal gesture "Well…. As long as I'm the only one you're biting I don't mind. Though… I was sure just eating red would be enough" he mumbled.

Marshall scoffed, red was more than enough to satisfy him he just enjoyed nibbling on his boyfriend occasionally. "Bubba, I've lived the past 26 years eating nothing but red. You think I'd enjoy anyone else's blood more than yours?" he reminded him. Though he did hope that Gumball experimented with red cooking more often too, that would be interesting indeed. Given Bubba was such a good cook he would have no issue with worrying about food anymore. But that didn't mean he didn't enjoy red snacks from time to time.

Bubba blinked, he didn't know whether to be shocked or touched, moving his hands to mess with the hem of his jumper shyly. "You… you never bit someone before me?" he asked shyly. That made him feel really special, I mean he could hope but part of him knew that wasn't true. Marshall was bound to have some exes until they became involved with each other. He just hoped to never meet them in person.

Marshall hummed, no that wasn't necessarily true "Nah, they just never seemed as sweet as you" he reflected. His ex-girlfriend Ashley's blood had been so bitter and gave him stomach aches. But with Bubba, he knew he genuinely loved him which made his blood taste so much better. He didn't just go around biting random people after all. Most of the stories that had accumulated over the decades about vampires weren't as true as they were made out to be. But it made a fun story to scare people with.

Bubba blushed, that was the mushiest thing Marshall had said to him in a long time. He was saying he liked his blood better than anyone else's. He cupped his hands over his face in hopes of hiding his embarrassed expression. He must have been making the stupidest expression right now and he didn't want Marshall to see it and tease him further. "You… god… mushy git…" he mumbled quietly biting his lip. Sometimes he just couldn't handle Marshall's moods, it was like he was on a wild ride that he couldn't get off of. But his smooth tongue always said the right thing to make his heart flutter and knock him off his feet without having to try.

Marshall grinned flashing his white teeth at Bubba and laughing under his breath. Gazing with adoration at his boyfriend, taking mental pictures to remember for later on "You love it babe" he teased. These were the moments that got him through bad work days, being able to look back and laugh at these when he was feeling down. He would never stop teasing Bubba about the bitemarks at school just to see him panic.

Fionna paced around the living room impatiently, wringing her hands angrily and trying to calm herself down. Her mind racing as she tried to consider every option. "Bubba is acting so weird until now he's never had an issue with hanging out before! Do you think he got a girlfriend or something?" Fionna ranted impatiently. Was he avoiding her or something? Until now he had no issue hanging out, offering her cake or venting his problems to her, but now he seemed to have found someone else who made him happier. Ignoring the fact that she ever existed and that fact hurt her a lot. Did she mean anything to him anymore?

Cake smiled, she loved Fiona like a sister and knew how frustrating this would be. But a romance with her was the furthest thing from Bubba's mind, she had seen the way he looked at Marshall. Fionna was never good at reading people and tended to follow her emotions blindly which often acted as a problem for her. In this case falling for someone who would never look at her the same way as difficult as that was for her to accept. She reached out to take Fionna's hand in her own gently, she knew how hard this was but Evan genuinely liked her and they would be cute together. "Honey, I know its hard, but Bubba just doesn't seem interested. I know it sucks but you just gotta accept it" she explained softly. She would help her through as best she could, watching cheesy romantic comedies, eating ice creams, sulking and the usual break up playlist. She wouldn't let her suffer alone, but she would help her beloved little sister find love again no matter what.

Fionna pouted until now he had spent all his time mooning over someone but who? Every time she tried to ask him he just ran away or hid at his desk talking to Ash instead. If he liked them why didn't he say anything? Who could that person be? Was it anyone from school that she knew on the off chance she ran into them by coincidence? She didn't understand why he would keep secrets from her. Why did boys have to be so complicated? She just wished he would tell her the truth so they could talk it out instead of her panicking about all the reasons why he wouldn't want to date her.

Ash smiled, feeling guilty as he had been the one responsible for playing matchmaker between Marshall and Bubba. Glad to see his best friend was finally happy with someone, given how long he had been pining over the person he liked for ages. He just couldn't tolerate him mooning over his crush for what felt like forever instead of making a move already. He was happy enough to play matchmaker so that his best friend could find love, he just never considered that Fionna would fall for his best friend. "He might have someone else he likes, or he might already be dating someone. It's not the end of the world Fi, there are plenty of guys who would love to date you" he reassured her.

Fionna blushed and shifted, remembering something that Bubba had said over the phone. Wringing her hands and shuffling in her seat nervously, her cheeks flushed bright red "I… I mean… he mentioned something about Evan, the English teacher" she stammered. To be fair she had never been able to tell when guys liked her due to them teasing her so much when she was a kid, assuming they were all just being mean and not flirting. But Evan seemed like a nice guy, quiet but sweet. She could maybe give him a chance but she was unsure.

Cake nearly leapt out of her seat, her ears spiking in excitement and her tail swishing around manically. She had noticed over time how Evan had been crushing on Fionna for ages but she had been oblivious. He was so cute and seemed like such a sweetie, he would be so good for Fionna. "Oh baby, you gotta make a move. That boy seems like such a sweetie, ask him out to a movie or something". He was a sweet red haired boy, bookish and was obviously smart but socially awkward. There was no doubt he would be the perfect match for Fionna's more outgoing and boisterous energy. Ash smiled, aware that Bubba had been a friend of sorts to Evan. Aware that he had a bad relationship with his mother and socially awkward. Helping him feel comfortable at school and controlling his powers. Of course, he would acknowledge him crushing on someone better than anyone else.

"I… I dunno…" Fionna mumbled, she didn't want to cheat on her feelings to Bubba even if they weren't together. She still liked him so much and she just wanted to understand him better. I mean what if Evan was just lonely and looking for a friend, what if Cake was just reading signals wrong? I mean that sort of thing was a possibility.

Ash sighed, he knew she was scared but she had to take this chance "Fi, didn't Bubba mention that Evan has trouble connecting to people. People teased you for ages for being a tomboy and not fitting in. He's had trouble connecting to people because they are scared of him. I think your empathy would help, someone who can understand his feelings" he explained. Two lonely souls drawn to each other and able to find comfort in each other that they never had before.

Fionna blinked, staring at Ash as she realised what he was trying to say. Though she used to have long blonde hair down to her waist as a kid, in her early twenties she chopped it down to bob and kept it that way ever since. Preferring shorts and jeans over skirts. But people made fun of her for not dressing in feminine clothes and acting like a boy. Making her feel self-conscious about herself. Maybe Cake and Ash were right, maybe it was time to move on. Evan seemed like a nice guy and they could take it slow and get to know each other."I… I guess, that would be nice" she stammered.

Cake leapt up excitedly, her brown eyes wide and her tail and ears twitching with excitement. This was going to be Fionna's first date "You got it, baby, I'm gonna go call him so you can mingle" she giggled running away to find her phone. She couldn't wait to boast all about her little sister getting her first date, she was so proud of her. Fionna had been single for so long and mooned over boys for ages, but never truly dated anyone. Now she was breaking the ice and finding her prince charming.

Fionna groaned, leaning forwards to cup her face in her hands in embarrassment. Not knowing what to say or how to get out of this she was just so awkward. Cake had the habit of going overboard with these things and trying to make it perfect. Even at the cost of embarrassing her in the worst way possible. She never meant to mind you, she just liked to dress people up and play matchmaker. She just wasn't aware of how intrusive she could be at times, but Ash helped mellow her down.

Ash smiled, he knew she was awkward and smiled, she would get through this and she would be ok. "Fi, I know you like Bubba. But it does seem he has someone he likes and that person means a lot to him. I know it sucks but it's not the end of the world". Everyone had fallen in love with someone and it not being returned, in one way or another. But it didn't last forever, it just took time to find the person who was right for you in the end.

Fionna sighed, he was right and she knew it, she just hated feeling like this. Falling in love with someone who didn't notice her. Feeling like a kid in preschool crawling after a boy and sulking because he was mean or ignoring her. Wishing she could understand what it was he liked so she could become that person in hopes of winning his love. "I know… it's just… I hate this" she muttered. Why did loving someone suck so much? Making her act and think all weird like this? Wasn't love supposed to be happy and make you feel all magical instead of crappy?

"Me and Cake, we just want what's best for you, helping you back on your feet is what we are here for. It's ok to feel anxious and upset, everyone does when they have a crush. But I'm sure you'll feel something better if you gave Evan a chance, like having butterflies in your stomach". He remembered how lonely he had been until he met cake, she was unlike any girl he had ever met and she became his everything. Yes people looked at her odd and sometimes wondered why they were a couple. But they were happy together and that was all that mattered.

Fionna hummed, she had watched Cake and Ash's relationship for years, how cuddly and embarrassingly lovey dovey they were. But the way they looked at each other proved their love for each other. She wanted someone else to look at her that way, and if maybe Evan could be the one so be it. "But... what if..." she trailed off. She couldn't help but have doubts, something gnawing away inside of her, like something would go wrong and this was just wishful thinking. That she would be alone for the rest of her life and never find someone for herself too.

"FIONNA! I told him you wanted to grab dinner tomorrow night after school! You got a date honey pie and you got your big sister Cake to thank!" Cake boasted proudly slamming through the front door. He had seemed very eager and excited over the phone, agreeing to the time and place though he sounded shy. Cake couldn't help but smile at how adorably shy he was about his date with Fionna. How she had never known about that boy liking Fionna she would never know. But now that she did, she was going to make them bond no matter what. Fionna went pale,a sickening panic feeling filling her stomach, Cake really never wasted any time. Was the room spinning suddenly? Just what was Cake thinking? "I'm gonna help you look something nice out for your date, get you looking all pretty! You're welcome sweetie" she praised happily, skipping around the house.

Fionna slumped into the couch, gripping a pillow comfort. This was her first date, what if she didn't like him? What if the date went wrong or she didn't like him? She was so scared, she didn't know what to do. She had seen enough movies of dates messing up and stories of disasters happening. She didn't want that happening to her too. But she would never know unless she tried right? She would just have to be brave and face this unknown territory. Ash chuckled awkwardly, he admired Cake's honesty and her confidence to go after what she wanted. But he worried that Fionna was anxious and Cake was overwhelming her a bit much. Maybe he could give her a pre date pep talk to make her feel better, but he knew everything would be ok.
