With the exception of the plot and the original characters that are depicted in the story, the author makes absolutely no profit off of this work of fan fiction, and no copyright infringement is intended on the franchise of Inuyasha and Miraculous Ladybug that rightfully belong to its owners Rumiko Takahashi and Thomas Astruc, respectively.

I'd like to thank Joanna Frances Tiano Cajilig for being incredibly supportive, especially when I felt like giving up on this book due to convoluted scenes that didn't seem to make sense at a glance. But she didn't allow that and kept encouraging me to write. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

For the readers, I hope that you will be able to enjoy Karma is Not Miraculous during this difficult time. So without further ado, let the show begin! :)

Tikki still doesn't like the fact that I'm keeping a diary and writing down every little secret, including how I'm the infamous vigilante Ladybug. I can understand where she is coming from though; if my diary somehow disappeared from my bedroom and wound up in someone who could use it to their advantage, I would be endangering not only the existence of the Miraculous, but also myself as well as Tom and Sabine.

I'm actually making progress on a tiny project to help prevent such a situation from happening, so it's just finding a small window between saving the world and my homework to work on it.

Looking back on the date from the prior entry, it's actually been a while since I've written in here! As for the reason why...it's sort of...complicated.

It had been another morning in Mdme. Bustier's class. Alya was showing me the latest upgrade on her blog, and I had been outlining a new design in my sketchbook when Lila suddenly barged through the door like a bull in a china shop. Before anyone could figure out what in the world was going on, she had gotten into another heated argument with Chloe. What it could've been about? Who knows. I'm just glad Mdme. Bustier was able to step in before things got too dicey.

The rest of the day went all right, at least until Alya pointed out how Adrien kept avoiding Lila when she tried to approach him even at lunchtime. Maybe he's finally aware just how bad lying can become if it's left unchecked. I've been there and done that in my previous incarnation, though I had lied to just to prevent others from finding out about time-traveling to Japan's feudal era, not to impress a boy that I like.

I'd seen more than enough to give me nightmares for at least another lifetime. You can definitely trust me on that. On that day though...Lila seemed really angry. Ticked even. That afternoon, when Tikki was helping me figure out where I had messed up on a question about quadratic equations when a flash of yellow flew past the balcony window. I thought my mind had finally succumbed to exhaustion but that wasn't the case: Hawk Moth had released another akuma in Paris.

I quickly transformed and followed the trail of burning cars and screaming civilians via the rooftops. Chat Noir soon joined me by my side, informing me that the akuma isn't someone but something. A cat actually. We soon found our target cornering smaller felines in an alley. It was roughly the size of a mountain lion with a grey pelt and twin tails. At least that was what I could see since its back had been facing us. Not wanting any harm to come those felines -even if they had been the reason the target had been akumatized in the first place - I used my yoyo to wrap it around the tails and used all of the strength I had to pull the animal away from the alley.

But when the target turned its head to me, snarling with razor sharp fangs that resembled a saber-toothed tiger, my body froze. The target….it looked almost like Kirara, the nekomata or cat demon who had traveled with me as Kagome to search for the Shikon Jewel shards. I couldn't fight something from my past. I...I couldn't. Even more than that...how could this akuma take the shape of a memory?

Chat Noir ended up pushing me to the ground when the target decided to release a fireball from its mouth, barely missing us and setting another vehicle blazing. When he asked why I dropped my guard like that, I quickly made up the excuse that I had a moment. Said that I recently had a dream about fighting an akuma like the target. I just didn't think it would happen, thus I was caught by surprise. Thankfully Chat Noir bought the excuse and we resumed the chase. We were about to follow the flying feline - yes, you are reading it right. The cat freakin' flew across the sky and to the park where it had cornered Lila on a bench, snarling and hissing at her. Chat Noir and I took cover behind a tree to survey the situation.

Everyone had scattered, yet the akuma was only interested in Lila. The pitch-black scarf around the cat's neck was definitely where the nettlesome critter decided to hide while causing chaos. Question was: how do we lure the feline away from Lila without getting burnt to a crisp? There wasn't anything in the park we could use, so I was left with little choice but to activate the Lucky Charm.

What I had gotten was a laser toy. Then I formulated a plan with Chat Noir. I would act as the bait, and he'd use the toy to distract the akuma long enough for Lila to get away including getting the scarf. Lila on the other hand...well, she tried to be tough and ended up ticking off the akuma even more. She would've gotten hurt if it hadn't been for Chat Noir's quick thinking. He was able to distract the akuma long enough for me to get her (forcefully) away from the park before the target aimed another fireball at us.

The fireball did the trick. Lila took off in less than a minute, leaving Chat Noir and I to clean up the mess. I ended up pouncing on the akuma when it started swiping its claws at my partner, and grabbed the scarf before any more harm could come to him. I used the Miraculous Ladybug to fix the city back to what it once was.

The memory of Kirara was soon shattered, and replaced with a roughed up Bengal feline. It looked like it had been on the streets for a while, maybe even less since it wore a scarf. Nonetheless, even though Ladybug had saved the day from evil, Marinette Dupain-Cheng immediately took the poor creature to an animal clinic for help.

The vet in charge of the practice had been a long-time customer of Papa's, so he was more than happy to take a look at the cat for me. It turned out that the feline was actually a boy, and definitely needed medical attention or else he wouldn't survive another night on the streets. Fleas, malnourishment, amongst other complications.

Before I even realized what I was doing, I came home with the cat and a plastic baggie filled with assorted items: canned cat food, a flea comb, some flea shampoo that the vet recommended, and a toy mouse. I definitely took Tom and Sabine by surprise when I told them how I saw this cat on my way home from the library - I had to make up an excuse that I forgot some last minute materials for a nonexistent project and forgot to tell them since they were busy handling customers - and I wanted to adopt him. I knew I was asking a lot from them, especially since taking care of an animal isn't cheap. Buyo had been no exception. I told them how I'd taken him to the vet to get checked out, and I was willing to pay for his treatment with my allowance when Tom stopped me with a raised hand.

He and Sabine both shared a smile before saying that they knew I was responsible enough to take care of a pet but that didn't mean I had to pay for its medical fees too. They were willing to let me keep the cat as long as I made sure it didn't sink its claws into the pastries or caused too much trouble when the bakery was busy, especially if there were customers who might be allergic to cats.

Sabine even commented that it was about perfect timing as she had been thinking that the house was getting a little too quiet for her liking. At that moment...I couldn't describe just how happy and regretful when I heard those words. Tom and Sabine have done so much for me, yet I still struggle to openly call them my 'parents' without thinking about Souta, Grandpa, and Mom.

It's...going to take time. A lot more than I expected to move forward without looking over my shoulder, contemplating on the life I could've lived if I had fallen through the Bone Eaters' Well one more time.

Sabine was the one who came up with a name for the cat after the three of us bounced off ideas for almost three days. Xing. In Chinese, it means 'star'. Definitely better than Little Tom or Napoleon. Those were Tom's suggestions, not mine!

It's hard to believe that two weeks have already flown by since Xing had been officially adopted. He doesn't have fleas anymore, and he's starting to explore a little more around the house than sleeping in a corner of the kitchen and sleeping all day. He's a picky eater though. He likes the canned food I gave him than the dry kibble that the vet wants him to eat.

He loves to play with Tom in the living room but he hasn't come to my room since I brought him home. I guess he needs a little more time before he can warm up to me -

Marinette's ballpoint pen froze in place on the pink lined page. Blue orbs blinked once, then twice before she glanced down towards the wooden floor. Xing's silky coat of rosette markings was pressed against her ankle as his lithe body curled up into a ball, his tail thumping against the floor for a few moments before silence enveloped the bedroom once more. Marinette bit back a chuckle and resumed writing under the fluorescent light of her desk lamp.

I think Xing and I will get along just fine.
