Chapter 12: Jason
Jason had experienced many incredible places in his life but nothing could prepare him for the hustle and bustle that was Cairo. The trio had exited the Labyrinth into a market in the Egyptian capital. Jason could see the clash of cultures before him. Vibrant colours and intoxicating smells surrounded him. The air was dusty. The demigods waded through the teeming mass of people to a road. Cars raced past as if they were competing in the Grand Prix. Ahead of him Jason could see Annabeth desperately attempt to hail a taxi but to no avail. She turned to face Jason and Leo.
"I guess we're walking." Said Annabeth.
"How fun." Replied Jason. Beside him Leo sighed. The demigods could see road signs for Giza Necropolis. Deducing that was a fancy way of describing the location of the Pyramids the trio set off into the city.
It was nightfall before Jason set his eyes on the Pyramid of Giza. The granite structure jutted out of the Sahara Desert. Jason was shocked; he'd never seen something so impressive. The Pyramid, in his opinion, put the Parthenon and Colosseum to shame. Two slightly smaller pyramids that were no less impressive accompanied the Great Pyramid. The structure was surrounded by small wooden structures. In the distance Jason could see the outline of the Sphinx. He made a mental note to return to the sites as a tourist if they survived this ordeal. Jason noticed a small opening on the side of the Great Pyramid.
"I reckon that's the entrance." He said, pointing to the opening.
"That makes sense." Replied Annabeth.
"Well unless there's another Great Pyramid of Giza we didn't know about I would also agree." Said Leo, chuckling at his own humour.
