A/N ~ I did use excerpt from the speech, because this was something I didn't want to stray from the original on, that being said, I was not the author on that portion, that was completely J.K. Rowling, but I did write the rest.
Thank you.

The Leaving Feast was about to begin. Garnet sat with her housemates for the House Cup announcement.

Dumbledore stood and waited for everyone to quiet down before speaking. "Now, as I understand it, the House Cup here needs awarding, and the points stand thus: In fourth place, Gryffindor, with three hundred and twelve points; in third, Hufflepuff, with three hundred and fifty-two; Ravenclaw has four hundred and twenty-six and Slytherin, four hundred and seventy-two."

The Slytherin Table erupted in cheers. Garnet and Adrian exchanged grins.

"Yes, yes, well done, Slytherin," said Dumbledore. "However, recent events must be taken into account."

The Great Hall got quiet. Garnet looked at Snape, who had an unamused look on his face. Garnet had heard about the dangerous adventure Harry, Ron and Hermione found themselves on a few weeks ago. Of course at the time they thought they were racing to stop Severus, they admitted, but Garnet felt pretty good that they were wrong in their assumptions.

"Ahem," said Dumbledore. "I have a few last-minute points to dish out. Let me see. Yes... First - to Mr. Ronald Weasley..."

Garnet looked to George and Fred's little brother and smiled.

"...for the best-played game of chess Hogwarts has seen in many years. I award Gryffindor House fifty points." Dumbledore said.

Garnet laughed to herself and rolled her eyes. They'd never hear the end of this one.

"Second - to Miss Hermione Granger...for the use of cool logic in the face of fire, I award Gryffindor House fifty points."

Garnet glanced at Ron's friends. Hermione had become an invaluable friend to the pair of them.

"Third - to Mr. Harry Potter..." said Dumbledore. The room went deadly quiet. "...for pure nerve and outstanding courage, I award Gryffindor House sixty points."

Murmurs began traveling around the Slytherin Table.

"We're tied with Slytherin," Hermione said to Ron and Harry. Fred and George grinned.

George looked over at Garnet, who stuck her tongue out at him.

"There are all kinds of courage," said Dumbledore, smiling. "It takes a great deal to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends. I therefore award ten points to Mr. Neville Longbottom."

The Gryffindor Table stood collectively and began jumping up and down.

"Which means," Dumbledore raised his hands, "we need a little change of decoration."

The Slytherin green and silver banners all changed to Gryffindor red and gold.

Garnet sighed, a little bummed. She had worked hard for the points she got Slytherin, and now it didn't matter.

The food finally began to appear and everyone dug in.

"That sucks so bad," Adrian grumped. "We had it! Our winning streak is over!"

Garnet laughed, "We'll get it back next year, don't worry."

"We better." Adrian pouted.

Garnet shook her head. She finished her dinner and went to sit with her friends.

Ron looked up at Garnet with a smirk on her face. "You hear that Prince?! What you think of me and my Wizards Chess now?"

Garnet gave him a look, "I don't know, Weasley, I suppose it's an alright game." She giggled, "You've got a spot of pudding on your face, by the way."

Ron's ears went red as he tried to wipe his face off.

George nudged her playfully with his shoulder, "Why'd you tell him, we were going to wait and see how long he went without noticing."

"Well that's just mean." Garnet smiled.

George put his arm over Garnet's shoulder in a playful way, "So Prince, how's it feel to lose to Gryffindors?" he chuckled when she shoved his arm off of her should laughing.

"Yeah, better get use to it, love." Fred ribbed her.

"I somehow doubt you chaps will get that lucky twice." she teased back. Everyone was laughing. Garnet glanced up and made eye contact with Cedric two tables over. He looked at her and smiled. She smiled back, blush spreading over her cheeks.

"You alright, Garnet?" Hermione brought her out of her daze.

Garnet looked at her quickly, "Yes, yes, I'm fine." Hermione looked at her as though she were unconvinced.

The train ride home was loud with Garnet, the Twins, Lee, Harry, Ron and Hermione all riding in one compartment, but it made the time fly.

Hermione and Garnet ended up talking a good bit.

The Twins interupted their conversation to invite them to join in some fun.

"We've got a couple of jokes left from Zonko's, you ladies want to join us?" George asked.

"Why on Earth would we want to do that?" Hermione snorted.

Garnet just laughed, "Not this time guys."

The boys filed out of the train car, looking for trouble.

"So..." Hermione smiled, "who do you like more, George or Cedric?"

Garnet's eye widened in surprise. "I-I don't know what you're talking about."

Hermione shook her head, "I may be young, but I'm a very observant person. Any where Fred and, especially George go, you generally aren't too far behind." she smiled, "And the way you two act around each other, I'm surprised you're not a couple already."

"Oh no...no, George doesn't feel that way about me." Garnet furrowed her brow in disappointment. "I wouldn't mind it though."

Hermione looked at her with disbelief. "You can't tell me you don't think what he does is considered flirting?"

Garnet shook her head, "No, he's one of my two best friends. He likes to tease me a little more. I assure you, he is not interested in me."

Hermione couldn't believe this girl didn't notice George was head over heels for her. She decided to move on to discussing Cedric.

"Well then, Diggory..." Hermione asked.

"He...yes, I've noticed, he gets awfully close sometimes." Garnet smiled and blushed a little.

Hermione giggled at her reaction.

The boys started piling back into the car, shutting the door behind them.

"Well that was a blast." Harry said, grinning from ear to ear.

"A blast!" Fred and George laughed so hard.

"That's a good one..." George said.

"...considering what we just did." Fred finished.

Everyone took their seats. George sat next to Garnet. He leaned back and put his arm on the back of seat behind her.

Garnet felt the heat of his arm in close proximity and blushed.

Hermione elbowed her and made a face at Garnet, as if to say 'This is what I was talking about.'

She leaned back and got comfortable, enjoying the closeness of him.

Far too soon the train pulled into the station.

Everyone began to disembark, hauling their trunks and things. The station was in utter chaos, as always. Garnet saw her dad standing with the Weasley's, chatting.

The Trio approached them, "Hello dad!" Garnet said giving him a hug.

"'ello sweatheart!" her father grinned at his daughter, "Did you have a good year?"

"Wonderful!" she said, "Dad, can Fred and George come over sometime this summer?" she asked.

Alatar looked at Arthur and smiled. Arthur nodded, smiling back.

"I don't think that would be a problem, but we'll talk about it later. Mum's waiting in the car for us." her dad said.

Garnet and the Twins were grinning.

The rather large group began making their way to the exit, when Garnet heard her name being called.

"Garnet!" she turned and saw Cedric and his dad coming their way.

Amos was out of breath, having tried to keep up with his son. He fell into a quick conversation with Arthur and Alatar about work.

"Garnet," Cedric smiled at her when he got closer. "I just wanted to... I mean, I wanted to ask you," he looked up at the Twins, who were staring at him. Fred's expression blank, but George looked like he was trying not to give him a death glare.

Cedric pulled her just a little bit away from them so he could talk to her. "I was hoping to ask if you'd write me this summer?" he asked her quickly.

Garnet blushed, "Yes Cedric, I'll write you." she smiled.

Cedric was grinning now, "Great! Have a lovely summer." he said. Then, being a little daring, he leaned in and kissed her on the cheek, before his dad and him walked away.

Everyone froze, all the Weasley's and her father, all were now staring at her.

Garnet's eyes were wide with surprise, her jaw having dropped. She couldn't believe he had just done that in front of everyone. She turned back to the family and her dad.

"You alright Garnet, dear?" her dad raised an eyebrow.

Garnet shook her head to clear her thoughts, "I'm fine daddy, was just not expecting that." she smiled shyly.

Molly Weasley smiled at her, "Well my dear, you're a gorgeous girl. You're bound to catch the eyes of some boys." she elbowed George, gently.

George felt like he was just punched in the chest.

Garnet nodded. The group made their way out of King's Cross and said their good byes to Harry, then to each other.

"Have a good Summer, Ron," Garnet gave him a quick hug.

"Thanks Garnet." he smiled at her.

She turned to the Twins. "I'll write you guys, and we'll set up a day you can come over and we can do all sorts of things." she grinned at the boys.

She hugged Fred goodbye, then turned to George and hugged him. He was a little stiff when she hugged him. As she pulled back, she looked him in the eyes, "Everything alright George?" she frowned.

George nodded, "Everything's alright." He forced a smile, though he was dying inside. Then he pulled her in for another hug, and this one was little better. Garnet laid her head down on his shoulder and smiled. When he let her go, they looked at each other for a moment, before George picked up his trunk, smiled and walked away with his family.

Garnet's dad picked up her trunk and put an arm around her shoulder.

"Darling?" he called her out of her trance.

"Why are boys so difficult, dad?" she asked, a little sad.

"How do you mean?" he chuckled, knowing full well what she meant.

Garnet thought better of it. "Nevermind, Daddy."

They walked towards their car where her mum was standing, waiting with arms open.

As Amethyst held her daughter in a tight hug, Garnet relaxed and smiled. She'd deal with her boy troubles later.
