"Albus!"
Albus spins around as someone in the coffee shop calls his name. He didn't think he saw anyone he knows, and as he scans the room for who called him, he still doesn't see anyone he knows.
"Albus!" someone calls again, and this time Albus sees who it is. There's a blond sitting at a table a few yards away from the door. He waves at Albus, and Albus has no idea who he is. Still, he makes his way over there anyway.
"It's Scorpius," the person says, like the name should mean something to Albus. Albus knows that he probably shouldn't, but he sits down across from Scorpius anyway.
"Oh, hey!" he says, like he knows who Scorpius is. He feels sort of bad. Was he supposed to have a meeting with someone? Did he set up a date that he doesn't remember? He doesn't think that he would've forgotten — he hasn't had much out of the ordinary lately.
"It's so good to finally meet you," Scorpius says. He has an iced coffee in front of him and Albus' eyes follow Scorpius' hands as he traces a finger around the lid. "When my friend said she was setting me up on a blind date, I wasn't sure about it, but I've really warmed up to the idea."
So Albus is supposed to be on a blind date with Scorpius? Well, it's super blind on his part; he didn't even know it was happening. Or maybe there's another Albus that looks vaguely like him. If there is, he's not here. Besides, Scorpius is cute. Maybe it's fate that he's being mistaken for this other Albus.
Albus stays at the table.
…
A couple of hours later, Scorpius looks at his watch, and has a deep inhale.
"I have to go," he tells Albus, looking upset. Albus is upset, too. He didn't know Scorpius at all, but he warmed up to him very quickly. They have a lot in common, really, and Albus finds himself not wanting the date to end.
"We should do this again sometime," he suggests. And then he remembers that the date isn't even supposed to be his.
"I'll take your number," Scorpius says excitedly, pulling his phone out of his pocket. He pauses when he sees Albus' guilty look.
"Wait," Albus says, feeling like a jackass. "I have something to tell you." Scorpius is silent, waiting. "I'm not your blind date."
"What?" Scorpius asks, looking very confused.
"My name is Albus, but I wasn't set up on a blind date," he explains, wringing his hands together. "You called me over, so I just… went along with it."
"Oh," Scorpius says, and he's quiet for a moment. Albus hopes that Scorpius doesn't hate him too much. After a while, Scorpius says, "Well, the other Albus didn't show up, so… Would you like to go on a date with me? For real?"
Smiling, Albus gives Scorpius his number.
