Albus, for some reason, can't help but keep on looking over at a blond guy in the restaurant he's sitting in. Everything should be perfect, but for some reason this blond guy is tripping him up. Something about him seems off. He tries to ignore it, and turns his attention back to his target. His target is an older man, in his 50s. He's a cheating husband, and it's not like he even tries to hide it. Here he is, sitting in a public restaurant, and blatantly cheating on his wife with a woman that's at least twenty years younger than him. It's disgusting to Albus, really.
He's not going to murder the man in the restaurant. That would be too messy. His plan does involve him following them out, though.
His whole goal of only trying to pay attention to his target and not to the blond guy that is bothering him is ruined when the blond guy goes up to the couple and acts like a waiter to them. Albus can't hear them from the distance away he's chosen to sit, but from the blond's body language, he can tell that he's asking them how they are. Albus can also see the blond's face, and he doesn't look particularly pleased when he talks to the man.
He swears to God, if this guy gets in his way…
Albus waits for a few moments after the blond walks away before following him. He's losing sight of the target for a few minutes, but this is more important. Besides, their dinner will likely take longer than a few minutes.
"Who are you?" he asks when he approaches the blond's back.
The blond twirls around, looking shocked. Albus' demeanor doesn't help him relax. He's been told he has a resting bitch face.
"Scorpius," the blond says. Albus decides to believe him on that.
"What are you doing?" Albus asks next.
"Having," Scorpius starts, clearly hesitating, "a nice dinner." Albus stares him down before Scorpius sighs and admits, "That guy out there? He's my best friend's cheating piece of trash husband, so I'm going to —" Scorpius draws a line across his neck with his finger. Subtle.
"No, you're not," Albus says. Scorpius rolls his eyes.
"I know, killing isn't good," he says, holding up his hands, "but that guy is a piece of utter shit, so I —"
"I know," Albus says, cutting him off. "You're not going to kill him, though," he threatens, "because that's what I'm supposed to be doing."
Scorpius brightens up at that, which, when he thinks about it, is a little bit weird — brightening up at murder?
"I can help you!" Scorpius says.
Albus almost always works alone. Plus, this guy seems like he might cramp Albus' style. Still, maybe it's the fact that he's his client's best friend. Maybe it's the puppy look on Scorpius' face.
Albus agrees.
…
After the couple finishes eating dinner, they go to the mall. Scorpius and Albus follow them there.
Scorpius is infuriating, to say the least. He keeps on asking Albus when they're going to do it, and how they're going to do it, even after Albus says they have to wait until the husband is alone.
They follow them to the mall, and watch them go into several different stores. They always keep a good distance, watching as they get more and more bags. As they're leaving another store, Scorpius trips.
He fucking trips.
The couple doesn't notice him tripping, but when he gets up, Albus gives him a hard punch in the arm. Scorpius says, "Ow!" and he says it way too loudly.
Albus realizes that the couple is turning around to look at them a second before they do, and Albus does the first sensible thing that comes to his mind: he grabs Scorpius' face in between his hands and kisses him on the lips, quickly. Scorpius struggles a little bit, but Albus holds his head harder until Scorpius relaxes into the kiss. Albus has to admit, it's nice to kiss someone. He doesn't think he's done it a while.
After at least a minute has passed of them kissing, Albus feels pretty certain that the couple has left, and he pulls away from Scorpius.
"What was that for?" Scorpius asks, sounding appalled.
"They were looking right at us," Albus hisses. "They shouldn't see our faces."
"Okay," Scorpius says, looking Albus up and down. Albus can see his chest moving up and down, and then berates himself for checking out Scorpius' chest.
Instead, he looks around the mall, hoping that their target hasn't left yet.
…
Albus and Scorpius are back in his car, following their target's car. It's been around twenty minutes since he dropped his date off at home, and Albus just has to follow him home and he's golden.
"I'm sorry for snapping at you earlier," Albus says to Scorpius, breaking the silence that's been in their car for a while.
"It's fine," Scorpius says, sounding confused as to why Albus is apologizing.
Albus is confused, too, honestly. It's just that he feels mean. He shouldn't have that feeling, as he's literally an assassin, but maybe it's something about Scorpius' whole puppy look. Maybe it's because Scorpius was the first guy he kissed in months, and yeah, he's touched and starved, but it also was really good, and he thinks that he probably would've felt the same if Albus actually had a blooming romantic life.
Either way, Albus feels bad for being short with Scorpius.
"I'm just not used to working with others," he says. Out of the corner of his eye, he can see Scorpius nod.
"Well, maybe we can work together more, and you can get used to it," he offers.
Albus thinks about it for the rest of the car ride.
…
When they're done, they both fling themselves into the car. Scorpius looks wide-eyed, and Albus thinks it's cute.
"I never want to do that again," he says, and Albus grins at him.
"That's why it's not your job, darling," he says. It's cute how freaked out Scorpius is. Or maybe it's concerning how chill Albus is.
"I would like to hang out with you, though," Scorpius says, looking at Albus with a blush across his cheeks
Albus' grin goes wider. That's an offer he'll take.
