A/N ~ Excerpt included from Chamber of Secrets. Just the Goblin reciting the poem to Harry. I do not own that portion, JK Rowling does, OF COURSE. 3 JK!
Fred, Ron, Harry, Lee and Hermione were all relieved that George had finally asked Garnet out.
Things were going great. Nothing really seemed to change, and Garnet had been making sure there were no major public displays of affection. They did like to walk down the corridors holding hands, but snogging in public was a big no for Garnet, and George, luckily, respected that.
Once Snape had found out they were dating, he made sure they didn't sit together in Potions Class. When confronted about it, Severus told Garnet that he wanted her to pay attention to the lesson rather than her boyfriend goofing off. Garnet couldn't argue with that logic.
~ February 14, 1993 ~
"Stupid Valentine's Day," Garnet muttered and rolled back over in her bed.
Garnet didn't want to get out of bed this Sunday morning, but she knew if she didn't, George was going to go to Snape about how she hadn't come out of the Common Room and Severus being Severus, he would assume something horrible had happened and come barging in...
So with a sigh she got up and got dressed. With there being no class today, she didn't have to wear her uniform. She opened her trunk to find clothes, and found a plain black long sleeve shirt to wear.
Garnet made her way out of her room. Girls were giggling in clusters around the Common Room. She simply rolled her eyes and got out of there as quickly as possible.
As she neared the Great Hall, she saw Fred, George, Ron, Harry, Hermione and Ginny standing around talking.
"There she is." George smiled as Garnet approached. He put his arm around her shoulder and gave her a quick kiss on the temple.
Garnet smiled, but reminded him, "You do remember that I don't like Valentine's Day, right? So don't be going to any trouble about it."
"I know I know," George nodded.
"I heard Lockhart was doing something extravagant today." Harry said.
"Oh boy," Fred said sarcastically.
The group made it's way in to the Great Hall. Everyone stopped in the doorway.
"Oh for the love of..." Garnet shook her head.
The tables all had huge, obnoxiously pink flowers on them. Heart shaped confetti fell from the ceiling of the Great Hall all over everyone.
"I think I'm going to be sick." Garnet said sarcastically. She looked up to see Snape sitting, his face twisted in disgust as he picked confetti out of his porridge.
The group sat down. Girls all over the Hall were giggly and excited.
Lockhart stood at the front of the Great Hall in disgustingly pink robes.
"Are...are those dwarves? Wearing gold wings?" Hermione pointed.
"These Cupids are here to deliver Valentine's for you." Lockhart announced. "Spread the love!"
"Oh good lord..." Garnet rolled her eyes. "Could this day get any worse?"
After breakfast, everyone went outside to play in the snow. George pulled Garnet away from everyone. They stood under a tree, holding hands.
"You never told me why you hate Valentine's Day so much." he rubbed his thumb over her knuckles.
Garnet didn't look at him. "Bad memories. I'd rather not talk about it right now."
George stepped a little closer, "Maybe we can replace the bad memories with good ones?" he said shyly.
Garnet smirked, "You know, you don't need a special day to tell someone you care about them. You should tell people you care every day. "
George nodded, then smirked. "I try to." he leaned in and kissed her gently on the lips.
Garnet sighed and relaxed into the kiss. She began to think maybe Valentine's Day didn't have to be such a horrible day after all.
"Heads up!" they heard Ron yell as a snowball hit the branch above their heads. They looked up as snow fell from the branches on top of them.
George shook the snow from his head and shoulders, then dusted Garnet off.
"You're in for it now, Ronald!" Garnet shouted and began throwing snowballs at him with George's help.
Within minutes it was an all out snowball fight. Even some Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws got in on it.
Lunch time came quickly. The Great Hall was still the same sickeningly pink color it was that morning, however now dwarves were roaming around singing Valentine's to students.
"This is ridiculous. I can't believe Dumbledore would allow this sort of nonsense." Hermione shook her head.
A dwarf approached their table.
"George, if you did something I'm going to punch you." Garnet muttered to him.
"Not me, I swear!" he held his hands up, looking down right terrified.
To her relief, the dwarf approached Harry.
"No thank you," Harry said to the dwarf, but the dwarf wouldn't listen. He began to recite the poem he was given.
"His eyes are as green as a fresh pickled toad,
His hair is as dark as a blackboard.
I wish he was mine, he's really divine,
The hero who conquered the Dark Lord."
Everybody was laughing, Harry was beet red when the dwarf was done, and everyone was giggling and laughing at him.
"Gee, Potter, did your little girlfriend sent you a Valentine. How sweet." Draco and his goons laughed.
Ginny's face got red.
Fred and George, however, were howling.
Garnet elbowed George, who looked at her confused.
"Your little sister sent it," she whispered.
"I know, that's what makes it all the more funny." he grinned.
Garnet shook her head.
The rest of the day, whenever Fred and George saw Harry, they'd sing the Valentine to him again.
Garnet was getting more and more disgusted.
Dinnertime in the Great Hall finally arrived, Garnet sat and began serving herself some stew.
Harry came in and Fred and George automatically began singing the song again.
Ginny got up and ran out of the Great Hall.
Garnet glared at the Twins, then got up to follow Ginny.
"Uh oh." George cringed.
"Yeah," Fred replied, "I think we're both in trouble."
"Ginny, you alright?" Garnet found her down the corridor towards the Charms classroom. She sat down against the wall beside her.
"Yeah," Ginny muffled into her arm as her head was resting on her knees.
"It's okay, he'll forget about it soon enough." Garnet shook her head but smiled softly. "You're a little young yet to be having a boyfriend, you know?"
Ginny sighed. "I guess."
"Besides, Potter is quite famous." Garnet started.
"I know..." Ginny frowned.
"I mean, come on, would you really want to have to deal with all the trouble that is bound to follow him over that? I wouldn't." Garnet smirked.
"True," Ginny relaxed a little bit.
"It's only your first year, hun. Find yourself before you find a boyfriend. And by then you won't have to look, he'll be beating on your door, figuratively speaking." Garnet was grinning.
Ginny smiled. "Easy for you to say. You and George have been heading towards being together since Second Year."
Garnet smiled shyly, "You think?"
Ginny giggled, "Definitely."
"You feel better now?" Garnet stood up and offered a hand to Ginny.
Ginny took it and stood. "Yes, I am."
They started their way back towards the Great Hall.
Garnet felt weird and stopped walking abruptly.
"Garnet?" Ginny stopped and looked at her.
Garnet looked at her right wrist. Her bracelet started turning colors. She was trying to hide her panic.
"I'm...I'm going to go to the loo, I'll meet you back in the Great Hall." she said.
"Are you sure?" Ginny looked at her questioningly, "I can wait for you."
Garnet took a step backwards. "No it's okay, you go on." Garnet went down the corridor quickly and entered the restroom.
She sat down on the floor quickly and things went black.
Garnet blinked her eyes to refocus.
She saw Ginny kneeling in front of her, concern etched across her face.
"Ginny," Garnet took a deep breath. She looked around making sure no one else was in the restroom.
"Are you okay? You were sitting there blinking over and over again, but didn't hear me when I called your name." Ginny looked a little afraid.
"I'm okay, I promise." Garnet rubbed her head, then slowly stood up. She felt dizzy and put her hand on the wall to steady herself.
"No, you're not." Ginny grabbed her arm. "Do you want me to go get George?"
"No!" Garnet held onto her hand. "I'm okay, really."
"What happened?" Ginny asked.
Garnet shook her head. She hadn't told anyone yet, and she didn't really want to tell her boyfriends sister first.
"It happens sometimes, give me a couple minutes and I'll be fine." Garnet took a deep breath, "Could we not tell your brother, or anyone else, please?"
Ginny bit her lip. "I don't know Garnet, that seemed like something we should at least tell a teacher about."
"I'll go see Madam Pomfrey a little later, I swear, just don't tell anyone, please." Garnet begged.
Finally Ginny nodded, "Okay Garnet."
They made their way back to the Great Hall arm in arm. Garnet was very tired.
"Are you sure you want to go back in there? Maybe we should go to Madame Pomfrey first." Ginny suggested.
"No no, really, give me just another moment." Garnet took a breath and leaned against the wall.
"Ginny? Garnet?" George and Fred came out of the Great Hall.
Garnet stood up off the wall quickly.
"Hey, Ginny," George looked at his sister, then at his brother, "we're sorry we were teasing. We won't do it again."
"Do you forgive us?" Fred asked.
Ginny smiled, "Yes, I forgive you." she said. They each gave her a hug.
George glanced at Garnet, who looked completely drained.
"Garnet? Are you feeling okay?" George put his arm around her waist.
Ginny gave Garnet a look, but Garnet ignored it. "I'm alright. I'm hungry though, I didn't eat much of my dinner before I walked out." She raised her brow at him.
George nodded, feeling guilty, "Let's go get you food."
The rest of dinner went along uneventfully. As curfew was approaching, Fred and George walked Garnet to the Dungeons. As they neared the passage to the Common Room, Fred held back to give them some space.
George tugged on Garnets hand and turned her towards him.
"Wasn't such a bad Valentine's Day, was it?" he grinned at her.
Garnet shrugged but smirked, "I guess not."
George chuckled. He tucked a loose hair behind her ear, then leaned in and kissed her gently.
As they separated, Garnet blushed a little.
"Have a good night," George said.
Garnet nodded and turned to head in. "I'll see you in the morning, Georgie."
George watched her walk around the corner then headed back towards his brother.
"So... we still going to put all the confetti we collected in Lockharts office?" Fred laughed.
"Of course." George grinned. The Twins bumped fists as they disappeared into a secret passage.
