Eric was sitting in a rocking chair in the hospital nursery watching his daughter sleep.
"Eric"? Pam gently called.
"Yes, Pam". Eric looked up into her eyes.
"Sookie is in recovery. She isn't awake yet. Lex is with her".
"Take your sister". Eric adjusted to hand Pam the baby. Pam took her sister and resumed Eric's position in the rocker as he left the room.
Eric walked in a room with a scene he hoped that he would never have to see. His son was holding his mother's hand in both of his while willing her to wake up.
"Lex" Eric called gently.
"Yes, father"?
"Go be with your sisters".
Lex nodded before he stood to place a kiss on his mother's forehead and then left the room.
Eric walked to the other side of the bed and then there was a knock on the door.
"Here is the transfusion equipment that you requested".
"Thank you".
Eric took the gloves and put them on. He then swabbed the area before inserting the butterfly needle into her arm and taping it off. He didn't take as much care with his end of the transfusion tube. He found the vein and then inserted the needle into his arm. After he settled himself in a chair next to Sookie, the nurse handed him a stress ball and then left the room.
Eric longed for Sookie to open her eyes so she could meet her daughter, whom she was willing to sacrifice her life for.
Lex gently opened the door to the nursery. "Hey" He whispered to Pam.
"Hey" She whispered back. "Would you like to meet your sister"?
"Sure" Lex answered with uncertainty.
"Come here and sit". She directed as she gracefully rose from the rocker. He sat still uncertain of how to hold a baby.
"Hold her like a football. Head in the crook of your arm and hand under her bottom". Pam instructed.
"Like this"?
"Yes". Pam smiled.
Sookie's eyes began to flutter before completely opening. "Eric". She called as she stroked his cheek. He automatically leaned into her touch. "My love".
"How are you feeling"? She ran her hand down his arm to intertwine their fingers.
"I should be asking you that not you asking me".
"I'm fine. I knew I would be".
"I didn't". Eric replied harshly. "Why did you tell Ludwig to refuse my blood"?
"Because of our daughter. Dr. Ludwig couldn't pin point how much fae she was and I didn't want to take the risk".
"She is a vampire with fae talents. How would I raise her"?
"Pam would have helped".
"She should be raised by her mother not her sister. Not to mention Pam is a vampire who knows nothing of fae talent".
"Nail could help you".
"So I could constantly worry that one day he would take her from me"! Eric pounded the table and then quickly turned away.
"Eric, we are not promised tomorrow. All it would take is a crazy person with a stake and I could lose any one of you".
"It wouldn't be without a fight. You wouldn't let me fight for you"!
A nurse opened the door. "Is everything alright"?
"Apparently Mrs. Northman speaks for us both now, so ask her". Eric yanked the needle out of his arm and left the room.
"Ooohh, a blind man could have seen that one coming". The nurse commented while washing her hands before putting on gloves to take care of the transfusion needle that was left hanging from Sookie's arm.
"What was I supposed to do? Possibly have my daughter born addicted to V"?
"A horrible reality is that babies are born addicted to drugs everyday". The nurse placed a cotton ball over the needle. "A lot of them are placed in homes to get them away from their drug addicted mothers. You don't look like a V addict to me". She gently pulled the needle out of Sookie's arm and then placed tape over the cotton ball.
"It only takes one time".
"Sometimes but I think that her loving family would have gotten her through and the would have been better than not having her mother or her father not having his wife. Who he obviously needs".
"Eric's angry because I didn't let him fight for what he needed". Sookie realized.
"Bingo" The nurse smiled before disposing of everything and then leaving the room.
Pam looked up at the sound of the door opening. "How is Sookie"?
"Stubborn and infuriating as ever". Eric answered pinching the bridge of his nose.
"So back to normal"? Pam replied with a smile.
"Where is Lex"?
"He went to get something to eat".
"You should go too. Leave her with me".
Pam gracefully stood up and handed the baby to Eric. "You and Sookie need to name her. Princess Baby Northman sounds awful".
"I don't know. I t has a certain kind of charm". Eric commented starring at his daughter.
"Please don't name her Baby Northman" Pam begged.
"We'll do one worse and name her something incredibly southern." Sookie interjected with her hands in her robe pockets.
Pam took her que to exit. "Mistress".
"Child" Sookie warmly returned.
Sookie waited for the door to close behind Pam before she spoke. "I'm sorry".
"For what? Almost taking away my reason to exist". Eric snapped.
"You have many reasons to exist. You have Pam, Lex, and our daughter".
"One day they will leave and then I will be alone".
"Pam will never leave you".
"Pam isn't you! I need you to rule by myside. I need you to raise our children by my side".
"I get it. I didn't get it before but I do now".
"Do you"?
"Yes, if you were to meet the true death, I don't know how I would go on".
"Lex would be king and you would be Queen Mother". Eric explained.
"Do you honestly think that I would want to hold King Lex's hand while the one person who promised to be with me for literally forever is gone"?
"You expected me to raise our daughter while the one person who promised to be with me for literally forever was gone"?
"I believe you could do it just like I would haveto do it". Sookie knelt infront of Eric. "II am you queen. I am your bonded. I am here. Please soften your heart towards me".
"My heart is already mush when it come to you". Eric tilted Sookie's cin up to kiss her lips.
"What should we name her"?
"Annabelle". Sookie ran her figure down the baby's cheek.
"I thought you were only teasing Pam".
"Beautiful Grace".
"It's perfect".
