September 6th, 1993 ~

All weekend, all the Twins talked about was how awesome the first Defense Against the Dark Arts class was, though they didn't really say why.

Friday, Professor Trewlaney had left Garnet alone during Divination. Garnet wanted to drop the class, but her father and Snape had insisted that she stick with it, and start keeping a journal of visions or premonitions she has.

Garnet pretty much refused to touch her book when they all opened it up to star charts.

But finally Monday had come, and Garnet had Defense Against the Dark Arts right before lunch.

"Are you looking forward to it?" Fred asked as they were walking in from their second Care of Magical Creatures class Hagrid.

"I am, won't you just tell me what we're doing?" she asked hopefully.

The Twins shook their heads. "Nope, you'll just have to find out on your own." George chuckled.

Garnet sighed, "Fiiiiiiine." She kissed George on the cheek before going their separate ways.

George watched her walk off.

"Still a bit of a shocker, really, that most of the class's biggest fear is He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, but yours is..." Fred started but George cut him off.

"Yeah, well, what do you expect?" George looked his twin in the eyes, "I almost lost her once already." The look of pain on his face made Fred regret saying anything.

He threw his arm over his brother's shoulder and they headed for Muggle Studies.

Garnet was joining her Housemates in the corridor towards Defense Against the Dark Arts.

"Miss Prince!" she turned and heard Severus calling for her. "A word, please."

She turned around really quick, accidentally bumping into Flint.

"Sorry," she looked up at him.

"No biggie," he brushed it off and went on his way.

To say Garnet was shocked was an understatement. She made her way to Severus.

"Yes Professor?" she smiled.

Severus looked around to make sure no one was watching he leaned a little closer to whisper to her, "Don't turn your back on Lupin. The man can not be trusted."

Garnet gave him a confused look, "I don't understand."

"It's not for me to discuss, but I want you to always keep your guard up around him." Snape said, "Promise me."

"I promise." Garnet said without hesitation. If Severus was wary of Lupin, then Garnet didn't need any other reasons.

Snape nodded, dismissing her, and she ran to catch up to her classmates.

"Good morning class." Professor Lupin started. "From my understanding, you didn't get much out of this class last year, am I right?"

The was a general murmur of agreement around the classroom.

"Well I'm going to get you up to speed with as much as I can. Before we start into the heavy stuff, I figured we'd try a review of something I'm fairly certain you've all studied or encountered in your lifetime." Professor Lupin motioned to a shaking armoire. "Can anyone guess what is in here?"

Most of the Slytherin held up their hands.

"Yes, Mr. Flint?" Lupin called on him.

"A Boggart," Marcus answered.

"Precisely, now do you all know the spell to get rid of a Boggart?" Lupin looked around at a few hands in the air. Garnet smiled at Adrian when Professor Lupin called on him.

"Riddikulus" Adrian answered.

"Very good." Lupin stood beside the armoire now, smiling "So, would you all like to show me what you've got?"

Garnet looked around, there was a collective "Yeah!" around the room.

"Alright, so line up, single file line, and we'll get started." Professor Lupin waved his wand, and his phonograph began playing some lively music. He waved it again and the knob of the armoire slowly turned, allowing the door to swing open.

Garnet was in no hurry to face her fears. She honestly wasn't sure what her biggest fear was. So she hung at the back of the line, with Adrian.

They watched as student after student faced off with snakes, mummies, clowns, and even a vampire, all of which had been made funny by one thing or another.

Next was Garnet's turn. She took a timid step forward and watched as the Boggart began to shift.

Next thing, her father was staring at her, anger apparent on his face.

Garnet took a step back.

"It's your fault. All of it. Your mother would still be alive if you had told us about the vision you saw." the Boggart/Mr. Prince said angrily.

Professor Lupin watched Garnet's body language for signs of distress, just like he did everyone.

"Daddy..." Garnet whispered to herself, then straightened up, waved her wand and said "Riddikulus!"

But the Boggart didn't change into anything funny, instead it decided to change into fireworks.

Large, colorful, bright flashing fireworks, right there in the middle of the classroom.

Lupin watched Garnet drop her wand, her eyes darting around in panic. Something wasn't right. He stood to stop the Boggart, but Adrian stepped in front of Garnet quickly and it changed into a giant venus fly trap.

Adrian shouted "Riddikulus!" and it turned into a sunflower with a smiley face.

Professor Lupin returned the Boggart to the armoire, and turned to look at Garnet, who was still standing, frozen in place, a blank expression now on her face.

"Miss Prince?" he called, making Adrian turn to her in concern.

The rest of the class watched Lupin and Adrian trying to talk to her.

"Her breathing is odd, and she's blinking quite fast, does she do this often?" Lupin asked Adrian.

"I...I don't recall her ever doing this before." Adrian tried to remember.

Finally, Garnet lowered her head slightly and closed her eyes, squeezing them shut.

"Miss Prince?" Professor Lupin said again.

This time Garnet looked up at him, her energy level dropped drastically.

"I need to talk to Severus," she whispered to Professor Lupin.

"Severus...Professor Snape?" he whispered back to her, confused.

She weakly nodded her head.

"Mr. Pucey, please grab Miss Prince a chair." he held on to her upper arm, as he had noticed her wobble, much like she did on the train.

He sat her on the chair, then went to his desk. He wrote something on a piece of parchment and folded it up.

"There's only a few more minutes until bell, I think we can dismiss early today." Professor Lupin smiled at everyone, "Well done, all of you!"

Adrian was still standing beside Garnet. "Mr. Pucey." Lupin said quietly, then handed him the parchment, "I need you to go straight to the Potions classroom. I know Professor Snape has a class right now, but give him this. You are free to go to lunch afterwards."

Adrian nodded. He pat Garnet on the shoulder. She sat, tired and embarrassed.

Once the room had cleared out, Lupin knelt down to look Garnet in the eyes. "Do you wish to discuss what's going on? Or do you want to wait for Professor Snape?"

Garnet looked around the room now, noticing it was empty. "I'll wait, thank you."

She didn't have long to wait. Moments later, Severus walked into the classroom.

Lupin stood, "Something happened with the Boggart, and she asked for you, Professor Snape." he raised a brow at the man.

Snape barely acknowledged Lupin. He knelt down in front of Garnet and cleared his throat, "Garnet, what happened?" Lupin was taken aback by the lack of formality.

Tears were threatening to fall from the corners of her eyes. "The Boggart... it turned into fireworks, which triggered..." she trailed off, but cleared her throat, "but before that it turned into Daddy."

"Why would it turn into your father?" Snape had a look of horror on his face.

Finally the tears flowed, "He blamed me for Mum's death!" she cried out, then threw herself into Snapes arms.

Lupin took a step back and watched as Severus wrapped his arms around Garnet in a comforting hug. Severus stroked her hair, and shook his head.

"I told you, child, over and over, it was not your fault. Even if you hadn't had a vision in class last term, it would have happened. There was nothing you could have done to stop it." Snape rocked back and forth with Garnet, comforting her, reassuring her.

"Please...please let me drop Divination." she sobbed.

Snape shook his head again, "Your father and I already talked about this, we feel you'd be doing a great injustice to yourself if you don't see this through. You could be a great seer some day, but you need the training and guidance."

After a few moments, Garnet's sobbing died down. Severus set her back on the chair and looked her in the eyes. "Are you feeling better?"

Garnet nodded, "I am, just tired still."

"Understandably so." Snape stood up, "I would imagine Mr. Weasley is looking for you in the Great Hall, or more likely on his way..."

Severus was cut off by a knock on the door as Fred and George came barging in.

"Garnet, are you alright?" George walked over to her quickly.

Garnet wiped her eyes and took a breath. "I'll be fine, George."

"Mr.'s Weasley, please escort Miss Prince to the Great Hall. She needs to eat before lunch is over." Snape said to the Twins.

George nodded and grabbed her bag, then linked her arm around his. Fred followed behind.

Snape watched them leave the classroom, his thoughts racing. He would have to send an owl to her father.

He was brought back to the present by Remus clearing his throat.

Snape looked at him with an emotionless gaze.

"Ah, yes, there's the Severus we all know." Lupin smiled and shook his head, "Do you mind telling me what just happened?"

Snape straightened up, nose in the air, "Miss Prince's mother was the one in the paper in July."

"The muggle car accident." Lupin nodded, acknowledging he had heard of it.

"Last year Miss Prince had quite a few notably accurate premonitions and readings. During her Divination final last year, she had a premonition of a car accident. She did not recognize the car at the time so didn't think anything of it. Turns out, it was the car that hit their car that night." Snape looked down, recalling the most horrid owl he had ever received.

"That explains one Boggart," Lupin nodded, "And your lack of formality with the girl?" he raised a brow.

Snape narrowed his eyes at the man. "None of the information you are receiving leaves this room, or is repeated to anyone, understood?"

Lupin nodded.

"Say it," Snape snapped.

"I swear, Severus, I won't discuss anything we talk about with anyone else." Remus agreed, standing up a little straighter.

"She's my God Daughter, her father is my cousin Alatar." Snape said. "Only a select few know."

Remus nodded, "Why is that a secret?"

"Garnet did not want her classmates accusing her of special treatment or of being teachers pet. We've managed to keep the school out of the loop thus far, no one really needs to know." Snape said.

Remus nodded again. "Alright, so what about the firework Boggart?" he raised a brow.

Snape shook his head, "That, I'm afraid, is not for me to discuss."

"But if something like that happens again, I need to know what's going on Severus, it's for her protection." Lupin argued.

Snape continued to shake his head, "Then you will need to speak with her. Just know that for the most part, she has things under control."

Remus raised his hands signalling he was going to drop the subject.

Snape nodded, and left the classroom without another word.
