Scorpius is a little bit pissed when he enters his shelter and finds someone else already there.
Okay, it's not like it's his shelter, but he was the one who found it, and it's been empty every single night for months. No one else was supposed to discover it and impeach on his safety.
The other guy, for what it's worth, also looks shocked. Scorpius considers walking away and finding a different shelter to hide in, but he knows that it's too late for that. He waited for too long to take cover, and in any minute, the zombies will come out. That's how it happens every single night.
"Move over," he finally tells the person, sighing and resigning himself to spending a night in a tiny shelter with a stranger, with barely enough room for them to move.
"I'm sorry," the other guy hisses as he moves to make adequate room for Scorpius.
"It's fine," Scorpius says, deciding to be nice today. People being nice has been in short supply ever since the zombies started coming out, and Scorpius doesn't want to be part of that. He can share his shelter for one night. This person needs it, too.
"I'm Albus," he whispers, as noise starts up outside of their little box.
"Scorpius," Scorpius whispers back. Their sides are completely pressed against each other, and Scorpius feels a sense of camaraderie with this guy. He feels a sense of camaraderie with every human he sees, now, but suddenly, pressed up against this guy, it's stronger than Scorpius has felt in a long time.
The noises outside get louder, and Albus, besides him, flinches as the catastrophe approaches them. They're so close together already, so it's easy for Scorpius to twist his hand and grab Albus'. They can get through this one night together. It'll be okay until tomorrow.
