Albus' house has the basement for the kids to hang out. They each have their own individual rooms, but Albus has been doing his homework in the basement since he started school. He has a very set routine. Every day, he gets home from school and immediately goes to the basement and does his homework. He does everything on the day it's assigned, because he knows that if he waits it'll catch up to him and he'll be overwhelmed with work he can't get done on time. He's been doing this for years, and today is no different, except for the fact that Lily brought someone home.

Out of all his siblings, Albus is definitely the least social, but when he was younger and James' friends came over, he just wanted to look cool in front of them and play whatever games they were playing. With Lily, it feels like she and her friends never shut up.

Of course, Lily chose today, when Albus has a big paper to get at least a little bit through, to bring over a friend. And of course, Lily and her friend just have to hang out in the basement, where Albus is trying to do his freaking homework. He supposes that it's fair, because it sounds like they're playing some sort of video game behind him and the basement is where they have their television, so Albus tries to ignore them. It's hard, though, as they talk and laugh and just do everything loudly.

After thirty minutes, Albus can't stand it anymore. He whips around in his chair, and snaps at them, "Can you please stop the freaking chitchat?"

They're both quiet for a moment, and Albus watches as Lily turns around, an amused expression on her face.

"Chitchat?" she repeats, teasing him. Albus' face burns up. "By the way, Al, this is Scorpius," she says, gesturing to her friend. Her friend, Scorpius, has blond hair, and he turns around, revealing his piercing blue eyes to Albus. Albus' tongue suddenly feels too big for his mouth, because Scorpius is hot.

Lily smirks at Albus. "He does theatre with me," she says, and Albus wonders what that's supposed to mean. "He's in your year," she adds.

Albus gives Scorpius an awkward wave and manages to squeak out, "Hi."

Lily looks like she's trying not to laugh.

"Hi," Scorpius says, and he doesn't seem nervous at all.

"Will you be staying for dinner?" Albus asks, and he doesn't know why he's making such a fool of himself.

Lily nods from besides Scorpius. "Yes, he will," she says, giving Albus a wink.

Albus hates her, she really does.

But as the two of them return to their video game — quieter now, Albus notices — and as Albus returns to his essay, he realizes that he also loves her.
