Welcome back everybody.

In the poll almost everyone chose option 1, so that's what I'll do. I have great ideas for it.

These reviews are from the previous chapter.

SuperSaiyajin4Vegeta: Didn't think it would be like Kratos haha.

Chris (guest): They'll kick ass, and get strong.

Crystalheartlover17: Damn, I wish others would give such long reviews. Yeah there's gonna be trauma.

I don't own anything aside from my OC's and some other stuff I might add.

Now to the story.

A few days after Jinora's Ceremony, on the dock of the Air Temple Island, Tenzin, Jinora, Mako, Bolin and Asami stood before Korra who would be leaving them to head back to the South Pole for her recovery.

Kanan himself was already on the ship, not caring at the moment about saying his goodbyes. He was lost in himself.

"Don't take this the wrong way, but I can't wait for you to leave." Bolin stated.

"How else are they supposed to take that, but the wrong way?" Mako asked.

"I mean because I never had a pen pal before. I'm going to write you so many letters." Bolin brought one out already finished. "This is to get the ball rolling. Spoiler alert. Pabu and I already miss you."

Korra managed a small smile. "Yeah we'll miss you too."

Korra boarded the ship leaving with her mom, dad, Kanan and Kya as everyone, aside from Kanan, waved.

"Honestly, I expected you to leave and travel the world again." Kya said as she took a seat next to her son.

She wouldn't have minded at all. Her son was free-spirited like her, craved travel and adventure. So to see him stay surprised her, but just a little.

"Well, I miss my home. I miss you and grandmother too." Kanan smiled as he hugged her.

She was caught slightly off guard by the gesture, but hugged back nonetheless.

"Kanan..." She began as she looked at his empty left sleeve. "If you ever need to talk, know that I'm here for you, everybody is."

"Thanks mom... but I'm okay, believe me I went through worse." Kanan said as he smiled slightly.

Kya of course knew he lied, a forced smile wouldn't help him with that.

Southern Water Tribe

Kanan and his mother were coming back from a small trip to the market. Kanan was of course carrying the heavier things. Mother and son were having small talk, enjoying their time.

"Like I said..." She stopped at a groan of pain, turning around she saw Kanan clutching his left arm, well what was left of it, his face scrunched up in pain.

She immediately dropped the bags and rushed over to him.

"What's wrong?" Kya said as she kneeled down next to him.

"M-My arm it hurts." Kanan said as he groaned in pain again.

She didn't know why his missing arm hurt, but didn't care right now and quickly started healing the spot.

His face went from pain to relief in a matter of seconds. Kanan breathed out calmly, his mother helped him up and the two left for their home. Kya gazing worriedly at him every minute or so.

Night quickly washed over the South Pole, the stars shone like gemstones.

Kanan woke up with a loud gasp, sweat rolling down his face. He looked around as he breathed heavily, he quickly composed himself and fell back onto his bed.

His nightmares had come back with full force. Intent on making him suffer even more.

Kanan stood up and went outside on the balcony, the cool breeze calming the raging storm that was his mind.

Kanan took a look at himself, he was still surprised that his wounds healed so quickly. A lot of his old scars had healed as well.

He remembered what his father had told them all.

Kanan was a Kijin, a half human half spirit hybrid. The Kijin had overwhelming power far beyond any human, but it's that power that overwhelms them and causes them to go berserk, perceiving anything dangerous as a threat to it's own survival.

It was basically Kanan's spiritual half that was rampaging like a wild beast, his uncontrolled power.

Kya had berated Tōga for not telling her, but Tōga said that the spiritual half of a Kijin was locked since birth, so there was nothing to worry about. Adding that the only way to unlock the spiritual half was through a large amount of spiritual energy.

When Korra decided to leave the Spirit Portals open, the Mortal World was flooded with large amounts of spiritual energy.

Kanan gripped the balcony railing. He was afraid, afraid of himself, of the uncontrolled power inside of him. What if he lost control again and there was no one to stop him. Just the mere thought of it frightened him.

"Is everything alright?" The soft voice of his mother brought Kanan back to reality.

He swiftly brushed some tears from his eyes. "Yeah." He breathed out. "It's fine."

"No. It's not." Kya calmly stated. "I can see it... the forced smiles, the empty... lifeless eyes."

"Just let us help you. It breaks my heart to see you like this."

Kanan gritted his teeth as tears rolled down his cheeks.

"I... I'm afraid. What if I lose control again. What then?" Kanan sobbed.

"I'm the strong one I should be protecting others, but look at me. I'm a broken mess."

Kya quickly hugged her son, as his tears stained her sleeping blouse.

"Every night, I... I can feel my arm hurt. The burning pain shooting through my body. The pain, it reminds me that I failed. That I can't protect anyone."

Kya finally understood it. The burden of power. Kanan's painful burden.

"There's one treatment for such pain. It can't be taken. It can only be given to you by others. Do you know what?" Kya asked as her fingers brushed through his long unkempt hair.

"What?" Kanan asked.

"Love." Kya answered. "That one word frees us of all the weight and pain of life. Love."

Kanan broke down crying against her shoulder, letting all the bottled up pain finally out.

"May the moon's silvery beams bring you sweet dreams.

Close your eyes now and rest, may these hours be blessed.

'Til the sky's bright with dawn, when you wake with a yawn.

Sleep through the night, you are your mother's delight.

I'll protect you from harm, and you'll wake in my arms.

Sleep... through... the night."

Kanan had fallen asleep. Kya smiled, the lullaby worked.

Kya remembers her mother singing the lullaby to her. And her singing it to Kanan.

She knew why the lullaby worked. In such a moment of pain it reminded Kanan of his childhood. Beautiful, happy old times.

As she tucked him in his bed sheets she moved some strands of hair from his eyes and pressed a small kiss on his forehead.

Korra was no stranger to pain or fear, but the agony she suffered at the hands of Zaheer was beyond anything she had ever endured before. Physically, the poison had ravaged her body, slicing through her like a hot knife, scraping across her nerve endings, like a fire that burned through her veins. Mentally, she was no less tortured.

Nightmares assaulted her sleep. Zaheer torturing her, draining the air from her lungs. But that wasn't the worst. The worst part is that she watched Kanan die, over and over again... by her very own hands.

Not wishing to experience it again Korra opened her eyes. Katara had finished her healing session, again without any success.

Her gaze met Kanan who, like always was leaning against a nearby wall, his eyes closed in concentration or exhaustion. She wasn't sure.

Kanan actually carried her home. She didn't mind. It reminded her of their childhood, how Kanan would carry her home after an exhausting day of playing around and avoiding White Lotus sentries.

A heavy silence accompanied them both. None having the courage to start up a conversation.

Soon they reached Korra's home, just as Kanan turned to leave something tugged on his sleeve.

"Please... stay." Korra's voice was a low whisper.

She woke up screaming once again. Her shaking body, covered in ice cold sweat, reacted to the danger her nightmares had engulfed her in.

Her eyes remained closed while she took a deep breath. Korra propelled herself up with her arms with difficulty, her lower body completely immobile.

She looked to her left and saw Kanan still sleeping. Oh, how she envied him for that.

But seeing him so peaceful gave her a boost of confidence, if Kanan didn't give up neither would she.

Korra pushed herself towards the edge of the bed and let her feet touch the ground. She could do this, she was going to prove the others wrong. She was not weak. She was the Avatar. Air filled her lungs as she concentrated with all her might on standing. Suddenly, pain swallowed her whole as she tried to put pressure on her limbs and her body gave up under her. She let out a scream in defeat, her cheek in contact with the cold ice beneath her, and frustration caused hot tears to stream down her face.

"Fuck." She cursed at her weakness. Painfully she leaned back against the bed, she took slow breaths to stabilize herself, as pain shot through her lower body. She reached under her bed to grab a stack of letters her friends sent her some months ago. When she locked at the stack, she saw the pitying looks her friends back in Republic City gave her, with a grunt of anger she threw them against a nearby wall.

Nobody understood her pain. She was completely alone.

She suddenly felt an arm wrap around her, she relaxed knowing whose arm it was. It was this gesture that reminded her that she wasn't alone in her pain. The man that she loved, her best friend suffered as well.

She turned around and wrapped her arms around Kanan, burying her head in his chest.

She remembered why she came here. To heal, to recuperate. People meant to help her but she coldly pushed them all away, including her parents and Katara.

Kanan was patient with her. She once angrily pushed him away and snapped at him, telling him that he didn't understand her pain. But not a second later as she said those words, guilt washed over her. She thought Kanan would snap at her, but no he... hugged her. She regretted those words. If anyone understood her pain it was Kanan.

Kanan had suffered much more before her. The horrible pain of taking lives, one she hoped she wouldn't have to experience. But now he suffered the same pain as her.

Both were broken.

Both lost their fighting spirit.

Both lost their confidence.

As Korra took a look at Kanan's soft gaze, she was reminded of her nightmares and broke down crying.

"It's the nightmares. Isn't it?" Kanan asked in a soft tone already knowing the answer.

"I-I just c-can't take it anymore." She sobbed against him.

"Korra. Look at me." Kanan said lifting Korra's head so his gaze met hers.

"For your every tear, know that I'll always be here. Korra through the pain we both share, know I'll never disappear."

"This pain... we both feel. It will only make us stronger." Kanan began. "Only the truly strong can accept their weakness, accept the pain that comes with it."

"Sleep now. I promise no nightmare will come for you." Kanan said as they both snuggled for warmth.

In his embrace Korra felt... safe. She felt unbelievable warmth. She felt her eyes get heavy, it was becoming increasingly difficult to keep them open. She felt him kiss her cheek. She understood the meaning behind it.

"Let go."

Sleep took Korra, and for the first time she didn't fear her dreams.

The sun shined brightly through the window in Korra's room.

Grey-blue eyes slowly opened revealing a gaze that rivals a thunderstorm. Kanan noticed a slight weight on his chest, he was met with Korra's peaceful and dreamy face.

Slowly he removed her grip from on him, not wanting to wake her. He pulled the bed sheets over her, as Korra's body instinctively snuggled in them. Kanan removed some bangs of hair from her eyes and pressed a kiss against her forehead. He slowly tip-toed his way out of her room.

As he closed the door to Korra's room he turned around and met the confused gazes of Tonraq and Senna.

"Kanan?" Tonraq questioned.

"I advise you to stay silent. Korra is sleeping." Kanan said.

This shocked the Avatar's parents. They knew of their daughter's nightmares and were deeply saddened that they could do almost nothing. But it seems Kanan was able to help her.

"I apologize if I disturbed your morning." Kanan said as he turned to leave, but was stopped by Senna.

"At least stay for breakfast." Senna said as she went to the kitchen.

"N-No. Please let me." Kanan said as he went to the kitchen after her.

"No, Kanan it's alright I'll cook." Senna said when she suddenly saw a water arm form in place of Kanan's missing left one.

"Allow me." And so Kanan went on to make breakfast.

After breakfast Tonraq had to leave for some kind of meeting he, as the Chief of the Tribe, needed to be present at.

Senna also left for the market after Kanan reassured her he'd watch over Korra.

A few hours later Korra awoke, with a loud yawn, and to her surprise, well rested. She sat on her wheelchair and left her room.

"Good morning." Korra greeted in a rather cheerful mood. Could you blame her? She finally slept well after months.

"More like afternoon." Korra to her slight surprise saw Kanan who was reading a book it seemed. The title of the book was "Go Rin no Sho".

"Where are-"

"Tonraq went for a Tribe meeting and Senna to the market." Kanan explained, interrupting her.

Korra nodded. It was good that they did something aside from constantly watching over her. She wanted her parents to continue with their lives, and she didn't want to drag them down with her.

Before Kanan knew it his lips were locked with Korra's.

"Thank you." Korra softly said. Kanan smiled in return.

After this day both their lives would change for the better.

The months went by and much to the shock of everyone Korra's and Kanan's behavior changed considerably. Both were most of the time smiling or even laughing.

Korra herself was immensely grateful that Kanan was always by her side. Both understood each other's pain. They wouldn't always talk about their traumas. Sometimes they would talk about random things. Kanan could talk and talk, about anything and everything, with a story for everything and a lot of interesting ones too, from all of his travels. Korra liked to sit and listen, liked that when she was with Kanan she seemingly forgot about all her worries.

Korra had also regained her ability to walk, while hard at first but with help of everyone, especially Kanan she mastered that challenge as well.

Where were the two lovers/best friends now you may ask. Well both were having a friendly spar.

The spectators were dumbfounded by what they saw. Korra and Kanan fought like beasts. None of them had ever seen such quick and precise strikes, both were basically blurs to the untrained eye.

But then something happened that everyone though was impossible.

Korra had beaten Kanan.

It happened so fast Kanan hadn't even seen it coming. Both were giving it their all, but Korra seemed to quickly track and exploit any of the small mishaps of Kanan.

With a quick legs sweep Korra knocked Kanan off his legs, before quickly turning and grabbing his arm and throwing him to the ground, his arm held in a painful hold behind him.

"I won. And if you remember our little bet, I can do whatever I want with you this night." Korra whispered into his ear.

Flashback - A Year Ago - Air Temple Island

A heavily panting Korra was looking tiredly at a smirking Kanan. Kanan had like before beaten her easily in any spar they had.

"I'll beat you one day... I can promise... you that." Korra said panting as Kanan helped her up, he quickly got a hold of Korra's waist.

"If you ever beat me. You can do whatever you want with me for a night." Kanan whispered into her ear.

Kanan gulped nervously as Korra helped him up. When everyone was gone Korra grabbed Kanan's ass and squeezed it.

"I'll see you tonight." Korra's whisper echoed through his ears.

The next week Korra had told her parents about her plan to travel the world with Kanan, hoping that like her predecessors she would somehow reconnect with Raava.

Kanan's ass still hurt. Out of all things she had to use a strapon. Ouch.

After a heartfelt goodbye with his parents Kanan and Korra had officially left for the world.

They went first to the Spirit Portal in the North Pole, after Kanan told Byakko to wait outside the portal they then traveled the short distance to the Tree of Time.

As she reached the tree Korra pressed her palm against the old tree's bark. She thought it might help her as it had during Harmonic Convergence, that it might reconnect her to Raava, but she was wrong. She saw no visions and felt no change.

She sighed and shook her head, she then felt a hand on her shoulder.

She turned around and met Kanan's warm smile, which she returned.

Both suddenly felt the ground underneath them tremble heavily.

"Are there earthquakes in the Spirit World?" Kanan asked after having regained his composure.

"Beats me." Korra said as she stood up, and saw what had caused the small earthquake.

A giant horned reptilian creature emerged from the trees, and boy it didn't look happy.

Korra felt a large amount of spiritual energy from it. She wasn't sure if it was a spirit, but her gut feeling told her to take care of that thing.

"I'll keep it busy from here, you go in close." Korra explained as Kanan nodded.

She started firing large jets of fire from her hands and feet, pushing the creature back. Kanan rushed in quick and delivered fast and precise strikes with his Masamune, but to his horror his blade bounced of the creatures scales harmlessly.

He was promptly swatted away like a fly, the force so strong he was sent crashing into the nearby trees.

The scaled creature leapt after Kanan and grabbed him with it's clawed hands. Kanan struggled to free himself from it's grip and failed. He slowly felt himself getting drained, his own spiritual energy started fading.

"Let him go!" Korra roared as she smashed her foot on the ground causing several earth spikes to skewer the creature.

Said creature roared in pain, Kanan jumped away as it loosened it's grip on him.

Kanan was getting desperate none of his attacks worked.

"Concentrate." Kanan breathed in. "Help me, I gotta do something."

Kanan then felt something beat in a rhythm resembling that of a heart, inside of him. The beating increased.

Kanan stood up and swung his blade. The blade fired a dark-purple crescent shaped beam. The attack easily bisected the creature, but that wasn't the only thing, the beam expanded into a crescent shaped dark-purple portal which drew in the bisected parts, after which it closed itself.

"What was that?" Korra asked after seeing the technique.

"I have no idea. But do you know what that thing was? Have any of the other Avatars encountered something like that before?" Kanan asked.

"No." Korra shook her head. The Avatars would have told her if something dangerous like that existed.

"That was a Kijin." Came the voice of Byakko. "I felt something was wrong, so I rushed here."

"That was a Kijin?" Korra asked.

"One that lost complete control over itself. In any case we shouldn't stay here." Byakko motioned for them to climb up.

After that they left the Spirit World. Kanan was worried. Would he turn into something like that if he lost complete control of himself?

"It's gonna be okay." Korra said wrapping her arms around his waist before pressing a kiss onto his scarred left cheek.

Kanan relaxed into her embrace, she was his light, his balance.

Finally got this done.

If you want I can edit it to write the lemon.

Sorry it took so long, I'm not that good with chapters like these, but don't worry there'll be more.

I really hope you liked it. Please review. I'm sorry if the chapter is shit.

Kijin - "Fierce God" or "Fierce Spirit"

See ya.
