Chapter 44: Dublin
We all had fun while we were out and about in Dublin. Tig and I picked out two black bassinets with the help of Ravi and Kaylee. They were both very excited at the thought of having little ones around. We also picked out a grey changing table. We weren't worried about buying two. We knew we probably wouldn't even really use it, but it was nice to have on hand in case we did decide to use it. We picked out a couple of light brown cribs for when they did outgrow the bassinets. There was no telling how fast they were going to grow. Even if we didn't get a chance to use them, they would already have them set up for when we visited Ireland again. The best part was they converted into full size beds. Ravi and Kaylee also bought the twins a whole bunch more outfits they probably didn't need, but I wasn't going to tell them no. They wanted to do this for us and we definitely appreciated it. Ravi and Kaylee also picked out two car seats for the twins. Alec's was a dark green color and Skye's was a pretty orange color.
When Chibs noticed the car seats that Ravi and Kaylee had picked out he busted into laughter. I looked him over and said, "What's wrong with you?"
Chibs shook his head for a moment before saying, "Just be glad ye are only having twins. Otherwise Mum and Ravi would pick out a white car seat too." I looked at him with a look of confusion as he continued with, "Reba, lass, that's two colours of the flag of Ireland."
Kaylee nodded her head in agreement saying, "Aye it is. Still cute though."
Agreeing with Kaylee I shook my head at Chibs before saying, "That's okay though. She's right. They are definitely cute and the colors actually look cute side by side."
We continued our adventure of going to store to store. Kaylee and Ravi couldn't stop buying baby stuff. Tig and I eventually put a stop to it with me saying, "We appreciate all of this that you guys are getting for Alec and Skye, but they can't possibly use all of this right away. We also need to see what all Tig and I have sent to you guys already. The twins should be set."
Ravi says, "You're right, Reba. We'll just pick up some formula and be done for now. We really do need to get back and sort everything."
Kaylee looks down for a moment before perking up and saying, "Aye, but first, let us get them each a dresser for all of their stuff. Ye need somewhere to put all of their stuff."
Tig and I agreed before helping them pick out some dark brown dressers. Happy and Chibs had sneaked off while we were checking out with the dressers and had bought a bunch of little decorations for the room the twins were going to have right now. Mainly they picked out little wall stickers and letters that Tig and I could paint however we wanted that spelled out each baby's name. It was very thoughtful of the two of them as well. Chibs kept gushing over the twins while we were in Dublin and letting everyone know they were his niece and nephew. Tig and I let him go about saying it but we kept shaking our heads in light laughter. After the stress that had been Charming, it was one of the best moments of my life. Everything felt too good to be true and I had to keep reminding myself it would take Major a long while to even figure out where I was at. He wouldn't think to check here and if our worst fears came true and he was working with Clay, Clay wouldn't even be able to accurately tell him what part of Ireland we were in.
After we hit as many stores as we possibly could, Tig and I pulled Happy, Chibs, Ravi and Kaylee to an ultrasound imaging place so they could see the twins in person on the ultrasounds and not just in the pictures we'd sent them through the mail and through text. We mostly were doing it for Ravi and Kaylee but Chibs and Happy had so much fun seeing them as well. It wasn't their first times going to an appointment, but they got to enjoy it this time and not worry too much about if anyone was eavesdropping on us. They also were going to be able to stay excited about it and not turn their excitement off because they were going back to Clay.
While I was lying on the bed with the gel on my stomach the ultrasound tech looked between Tig and I before saying, "When are ye due again?"
I feel a bit tense as I respond with, "November 15th. Why?"
The ultrasound tech smiles softly saying, "Well, Mum and Da. I have a feeling ye will be having them before then."
Tig chimes in with, "What do you mean? Our previous doctor told us try to make it to 32 weeks and she's almost there. She'll be 32 weeks on the 20th. Do we have anything to worry about before then?"
The tech quickly eases our fears by saying, "Aye. 32 weeks is the mark ye want to hit with twins in the gestational period. I feel ye will definitely hit it. I was just wondering because it seems like the boy has already flipped into the crowning position. He's head down. Usually the babes start to do that when ye are nearing labor. I think ye will make it past 32 weeks because the little lass hasn't turned yet. She is still breach or feet down. Now I do want ye to try to help her start turning the day you turn 32 weeks. Ye can kind of push down on your belly and rub circles in the direction she needs to turn. Sometimes doing yoga can help the baby turn the right way for delivery. I do want ye to be careful though since I've got ye listed as high risk." The ultrasound tech paused for a moment before continuing with, "Normally I would say just give the babe time to turn on their own, but with ye being high risk and carrying twins, I do want ye to start this at 32 weeks. This may sound a bit weird, but to help ye prepare for birth, ye might want to have sex. It's to help get ye ready for birth. I've no clue why it helps, but all the women we see through the clinic swear by it."
I smile at the tech saying, "We read about that pretty early on in the pregnancy. I was a premature baby and I was just a single. We figured they would probably come early as well. Thank you for confirming for us though."
Happy was in the corner trying to hold back his laughter at the tech talking to us about sex in front of my step dad and my brother's mom. Not to mention my brother was in the room with us. Sure they all knew we had obviously had sex to conceive, but we still didn't want to be talking about it in front of our family.
After we left the doctor's appointment with a few ultrasound pictures, Kaylee and Ravi loaded up into the first vehicle with the big things for the twins. Some of it was being shipped to Kaylee's house because they didn't have anything in actual stock. We put some of the bags of clothes and the baby wall decorations into our vehicle. Happy climbed into the driver's seat and Chibs climbed in beside him. Tig and I got into the back seat and I leaned my head against him and napped on the 2 ½ hour drive back to Belfast. It was a much needed nap in my opinion.
