Note: Went back and shortened some chapters, mainly in the part involving the mobile suit fiasco and the invasion of the Chronos Institute. Also, been re-considering making these into separate fics for each season. I'm going to do at least thirteen episodes for this one edition, yet I'm considering making another for the 'Around the World Arc' aka covering Mega Man 6. Mainly also because I hate looking at this thing at times. I will finish this no matter how many years it takes, but I suppose it's just the lot of some artists (no Leonardo or anything, mind you, let alone anything noteworthy like Hawthorne or Harper Lee) that you don't like your work even if you want to continue doing it. I just see things that make me go 'I could've done that better' or 'Oh God, what was I thinking putting that in'. Again, typical, but it's still there. Thus, that was the motivation for starting with another edition. Also, I'll say that condensing some chapters probably screwed me out of a higher review counter as I found out you can't review the same listed chapter, even if said chapter is completely different. This site sometimes gets me. So sorry about that too. Not to mention making some ridiculously long when I was under the belief you had to do that. God, I screwed myself a LOT during this. That said, here's hoping that I don't make those same mistakes in the future and that I manage to keep you entertained and invested throughout this whole mad trip.
Also, the bit with Kalinka in the last chapter will be addressed, but much later, probably in the other edition.
Reviews are the best motivators for faster updates and generally continuing!
Hope you enjoy!
Hijack Part 4
Mega Man © of Capcom
"Time to go into 'Operation Toss out." he heard on the radio. The trip to the rear of the truck wasn't exactly a steady trip, yet he made it. Now all that was left was to make sure that he didn't get tossed out with what he was going to push out. Theo might've been the one at the wheel, but could he at least drive a little smoother? Well, whatever, they had one shot at this, and he'd be damned if this didn't go according to plan.
With a grunt, he opened the door at the rear of the trailer of the eighteen wheeler, the sight of the Blue Bomber and several other vehicles behind the truck coming into view. Though the robot's widening blue optics cemented that this maneuver would certainly buy them some time.
"What the?!" Mega Man shouted, a blonde man in a uniform seen amidst a collection of several boxes. What in the world was he doing?!
That question was soon answered.
The human immediately began going behind and pushing the first box he could, the clearly heavy contents of the box falling from the trailer and stopping the car behind him dead in its tracks, the other few behind it veering out of the way to avoid the incoming debris.
"What the hell?!" a voice from behind shouted. "Are you crazy?!"
"What's going on up there?!"
Indeed, what was this guy thinking?! Mega Man didn't have much time to ponder as the next box nearly took both he and Rush out, they having to raise higher, only to see that this particular obstacle managed to cause two cars to crash right into each other. "What do you think you're doing?!" the blue robot immediately mentally kicked himself in the head. It was OBVIOUS what he was doing! Yet this was more than simple theft now! And even the theft was quite extreme if what he suspected was in the few boxes loaded in one of the trucks actually was. But...no. They wouldn't let such things fall out of the truck. So this one…
His train of thought was cut short as more and more boxes fell out of the truck, the traffic behind becoming more and more frantic. It was little effort for him to dodge the onslaught, yet those below and behind Mega Man weren't so lucky.
"GAH!" The Blue Bomber turned to see a car get caught on one of the boxes and quite literally flip over, spinning around wildly and crashing into other vehicles surrounding them. Said vehicles crashed into others, going into light posts and through entirely other lines, causing even more destruction.
Though one particular event stopped him in his tracks.
A bus was rammed into by one of the cars sent driving madly into one of the other lanes, it sent in an involuntary tailspin that resulted in more and more cars crashing into it. One of the cars then became engulfed in flames, the driver rushing out for dear life.
Mega Man knew well what would come next.
BOOM!
The blonde man looked on at the resulting explosion, fire and smoke engulfing the area behind him. Steadily making his way towards it, he shut the door and spoke into the radio on his person. "Operation is a success. That should keep him off our tail for some time."
"Good." the female voice on the other end sighed in relief. "Still, this has gotten us some attention already.
"That I'm aware of," he replied. "We'll need to make a stop or two on the way there. And then, we'll need to keep the blue boy on one of our tails."
"Indeed." the woman said. "I'll raidio you when there's something new on our end. Over and out." the link died, the man then linking into another available radio.
"You ready?" he asked, someone picking up on the other line.
"Ready if you are."
"Bear in mind, if one of us gets caught...then we need to deal with-"
"I know the risks already. Theo filled me in on everything." the man on the other side interrupted. "You guys are doing a good thing, even if no one sees it yet. This has to end, one way or another."
The blonde gave a tired sigh. They had only just started, and it was already feeling like a long night. "I appreciate this. Really, I do."
"Don't mention it." the other voice told him. "The lady's a smooth talker. Theo's a lucky guy."
"Indeed." he stated. "Alert me if anything changes. Over and out." the radio link died, he then maneuvered to the very back of the truck's trailer. The trail of destruction would at least get the human forces off their hands for a while, though the azure android was still a threat that would need to be accounted for.
He could only hope that they made it to their destination on time. For if they couldn't make it there, then this would've all been for nothing.
BOOM!
The explosion was immediate, everyone that could had exited their cars and began running for their lives. Mega Man looked past the debris that had been dropped off literally at the truck that had released it, along with the other up ahead of it. They were getting away! He was about to zoom out of sight after them, but paused at the sounds of distress behind him. The bus was overturned and dangerously close to the fire, and from what he could see, people were trapped inside.
A familiar incident came to mind, one that had occured not too long ago. 'Kouin…'
He didn't spend any more time hesitating, Rush flying him over to the downed bus, careful to watch for the flames.
…
The boy wailed as his legs felt numb. He didn't believe them to be broken, but still, he couldn't move them. He felt as if he couldn't move much of anything, his head felt wet on the left side. Lifting his hand up to his head, he saw a large amount of blood and a painful sting that followed his touching the wound. Everyone around him wasn't faring much better, ranging from adults to their horrified children. The driver was knocked unconscious, and everyone was desperately trying to gain some sort of footing in the overturned bus. Some attempted to maneuver their way to the door, but their legs were perhaps worse off than his, they were not even able to get a couple of feet away. One guy he noticed had white bone peeking out from his leg, another having his arm practically twisted out of its socket.
And another guy looked like his neck...wait...was he even…
The boy didn't even bother looking longer than he had to at that one. Though he couldn't help but wonder how many more were like him in here. Better yet, how any of them were going to get out of here. He just wanted to go home to his mom and play with his dog for God's sake! He was just going to the library to catch up on some homework! He didn't need this!
Just then though, the sound of someone knocking against the glass was heard, the boy seeing a figure of blue by the door of the bus. The people scurried out away from the door now, those that could had gotten the driver out of his seat and with them. Then, a hot flash of light tore through the door and into the seat the driver once occupied.
Tearing a way to freedom.
"Ok, we're clear. Now what?" Theo asked, nerves more than a little rattled.
"We keep going." The red-haired woman told him plainly. "We're nearly there as it is. We can't stop now."
No, they couldn't, but there was a heaviness on Theo's mind. "You don't think those people were hurt bad, do you?" She was quiet. "Simone?"
She sighed. "The Three Laws are in our favor, thus, while damage has been done, I would doubt that there would be any casualties."
"How do you know?"
"Do you think that his programming would allow that to happen?"
"Well, no. But-"
"Then put it out of your mind and drive." Simone told him directly. "Remember, this is just a taste of what we'll all have to face eventually. And it'll be even worse than this."
Theo was silent, but continued on driving. His mind was racing and going back and forth between what he had just seen and Simone's assertion of this being an unfortunate reality that they would have to face.
"You don't want what happened to your daughter or those Wily has made suffer to experience such things again, do you?"
"...no." With that he pushed down on the gas pedals and continued driving.
Note: You might've noticed that these particular chapters are far shorter than the last ones. This is mainly because I'm working on a lot of side projects at the moment due to there not being much else to do (quarantine and all), and I'm anxious to get to the next season (I've decided that 13 episodes will be the bare minimum). Plus, I'm also practicing on making chapters shorter. Less is more after all. I don't need to explain everything, as that's the job of you guys to interpret and feel for yourselves when you read.
That said, I hope you enjoyed it, stay safe, and please review!
Thank you!
