Note: Google Docs lets you type from your phone! I'm an idiot for not getting it sooner! And it catches errors Word doesn't pick up. Anyway, here's the final part of this episode! Just a couple more before I can officially, for real this time, start a 'new season'. So sorry for all the confusion my indecisiveness has wrought.
Hijack Part 5
Mega Man © of Capcom
The boy was pulled from the wreckage, his varsity jacket ruined, but aside from that, everything else was fine, all things considered. Plus, he was in the presence of the Blue Bomber himself. If anything good did come out of tonight, this was quite the bonus. The police and several ambulances had arrived, tending to victims of the crashes, yet so far, it seemed that no one was dead. Even the guy with the twisted neck was alive. Sure, he needed a neck brace, but was still alive.
"T-Thanks, mister." He said, kicking himself for his trembling voice. He was in front of the robot himself, and was being an absolute fool.
Mega Man smiled. Selfish as it might've been, moments like these were gratifying. It reaffirmed that he was doing what he was quite literally made for. "No problem. It's what I do." He answered confidently. Image and all. "What's your name?"
"K-Kevin." The boy answered. "Kevin Keene." He winced as a shot of pain came to the side of his head.
"I'd stay off of that if I were you." Mega Man told him. "I know. Head injuries are never good." He took a closer look at it. "How do you feel?"
"It's a little numb." Kevin admitted. "But my legs hurt a bit." He then looked to Rush. "You know, he reminds me of my own dog."
"Well, hopefully he's not as much of a handful." Rush gave a light huff, but was placated by a rub to the head, his ears twitching. "What's his name?"
"Duke." Kevin answered. "Oh geez! I didn't take him out or anything before I left! Oh, mom's going to kill me!
Mega Man was about to speak, yet a medical bot with long, flowing brown hair and a green nurse outfit came up from behind. "Sorry, but I don't think you'll be going home for a while, hun." She then grabbed him and led him away. "Thank you." She turned to Mega.
"It's what I do." He replied you her. "By the way, who are you?"
"Oh, yes. Farfalla. I transferred here to New York a short time ago."
"Take care of him, ok?" He hopped aboard Rush, the dog transitioning into flight mode. "I've still got some things to do."
California
Finally, life could get back to normal. At least, that's what he had initially believed. He had just been released and was still on medical leave, but Xander Payne was near begging to go back into service again. Being cooped up for so long in that hospital bed had done little for his nerves, they were now even more frazzled than before.
He needed some form of release, he needed something!
Strolling around the small space that composed of his small bedroom in his small apartment, the soldier sat on the bed and held his head in his hands. He was dressed in little more than a sleeveless shirt and lounge pants, an eyepatch over one eye. God, his eye was killing him. Sure, the doctors had said that soreness would linger for a bit, seeing as the operation was but a short time ago, but still, that didn't exactly translate to him liking any part of it. In fact, the fact it was even operated on at all somewhat pissed him off.
Theo up and went behind his back with that. All that was said that he was going to have his eye saved, or at least restored. Fine, he was all right with that. But he didn't believe that meant going in and cutting up even more of him! To think what poor Chelsea had to go through with just her arm and leg!
Yet that wasn't what angered him, not entirely. Fact if the matter was, it shouldn't have happened in the first place. Those damned machines...that purple one...where did HE come from? Better yet, where'd he get that cobbled together hunk of junk he was carrying? But it was mainly that black one's fault. One of Light's...or formerly one of his. Elec Man, he believed him to be called. He was the one caused him to be in the state he was now. If he hadn't...if that purple one hadn't been...hell, if neither of them had been…
If no machines like them had been there…
Xander groaned. He needed sleep. Though whether or not he'd get it was yet to be seen. Still, he'd try, seeing as his hospital stay messed up his schedule. Hopping into bed and about to turn off the light, a small card lay on the dresser.
Simone's card.
Strange lady, she was. Chelsea didn't seem too fond of her, yet her place in Theo's life was clear. Though what did this mean? Better yet, why did her words resonate with him, especially now?
Perhaps such things, he thought as he turned oof the lamp, would be best dwelt on later.
Though how long 'later' was had yet to be seen.
New York
He wasn't wishing to admit it, but he was beginning to believe that he had lost them.
Great. Just fan-freaking-tastic.
And just when things were going so well too. Finally, he was back on his A-game, and then THIS comes along! Mega Man scoured the city from above, Rush in turn doing the same. True, four pairs of eyes did strengthen their odds of finding where those trucks had gone, and more importantly, their cargo.
If what he thought it was did indeed prove to be true, there still remained the question of why. For what reason would they have for wanting to steal it? The possibility, or as Roll called it, his 'Wily Alarm', of it being related to the man came up. None of the accosted Robot Masters that had been captured had said where the madman could've been, and given that the interrogators where human, lying wasn't a possibility. Yet their situation was a mess of confusion in and of itself. Why wouldn't the one who built them tell them where he was or where he was going? Surely he told some of them!
Surely he told his brother…
Mega Man forced himself back on topic. Perhaps, if these mad drivers we're working with an equally madman, then they may be the key to something of a lead. If not, then why would they do this? Why would they be willing to cause this much damage and put so many lives at risk?
Better yet, how was he, one bound by the Laws, going to deal with them?
"Mega! Mega! Rook!" Rush cried out, pointing an ear to the world below. Mega looked to see a lone truck speeding madly down the road, not caring who got in its way.
"Good job, boy!" The Blue Bomber congratulated, descending and growing closer and closer to the large obstacle.
All right...so far, no sign of him or the dog. Yet the driver knew he couldn't keep this up for long. Eventually, he would be found. Only question was when-
"Pull over!"
Well...his mother was right. Be careful what you wish for indeed. Still, regardless, he was somewhat relieved. He had the robot on his tail.
"I said pull over!" Mega Man repeated, flying beside the truck's window. "If you think you can outrun me, then you've got another thing coming!" He barked outside. "I may not be Quick Man, but I can-"
He got no further than that as he saw the driver whip out something from his pants and point it directly in his face.
BOOM!
A searing agony assaulted him as Mega Man was sent reeling back by the impact, losing his position atop of Rush and landing and turning into painful positions as he bounced along the road. Rush ceased his pursuit of the truck and went back to his 'owner', a whine escaping him at the sight of the blue robot's contorted body.
"Ugh…" the cerulean android groaned, easing his way onto his hands and knees. Only it seemed that half of the world had been shattered like glass and was rendered into splinters of shapes and colors. He reached up to his face and then understood.
His eye. He had been shot in the eye. The damaged optic spazzed and sizzled, sparks of electricity coming from it as he winced upon touching it, though not from the pain per say. It just felt like a huge chunk of the world was lost to him now.
"Mega!"
Mega looked at Rush, clutching his eye. "Boy…" he began. "I think I need you to be my eyes for a moment."
This wasn't good. He was going to be caught for sure soon. True, his friends told him of the risks, yet still, that didn't make the situation any better. And he WASN'T too keen on having the rest of his night in a police station. Being fired was better than that. But perhaps now, all that was a distant dream.
POP!
Suddenly, he felt the entire truck veer.
POP! POP! POP!
Suddenly, the entire truck sank, as if an amount of weight was suddenly removed from it. An unbearable screeching sound was heard before he felt the vehicle being pushed to the side, riding up against the railing and causing more sparks to fly. The wheels of the truck had been popped, yet he still continued to drive, even with the Blue Bomber right beside him. "Pull over! I won't ask you again!"
He wasn't going to get out of this! He had to do something! Of course, it was then that he lost all control. Mega Man's single functioning eye widened in horror as the vehicle began to steer wildly, the driver attempting to get it back on track, yet he was heading dead on towards the railing. Right towards the East River. The railing gave way and the truck plummeted downward. A tremendous splash echoed throughout the whole area as the truck sank, disappearing beneath the ripples of the distrubed, once easily ebbing water.
Wasting no time and paying no attention to the gathering crowd, Mega Man adjusted his buoyancy and dove in, Rush looking at the blue robot disappeared under the water. Looking around, all the while trying to keep too much water from getting through the cracks in his eye, Mega Man's panic began to rise as he found the truck had already sunk to the bottom of the river. Swimming over, he saw the driver unconscious and with quite the sizable head wound. With a well timed strike, he shot a plasma blast through the back window and climbed through, kicking the door from its place to allow an entry out. He undid the seatbelt and took the limp form of the human driver in his arms, he then swam up to the surface.
"Mega!" Rush cried out upon seeing the blue robot pop up from underneath the water. Though the dog sensed that he wasn't done yet.
"Rush!" He called out, the dog coming down. "Take this guy and get him to land!" He the loaded him on his back. "There's something I still have to check."
Mega dove down again, swimming down to the submerged truck, then to the back door. Lifting it open, the contents had all sunk to the back of the trailer cluttered together. Mega winced. Whoever owned this was NOT going to be happy. And if they knew what was about to do, even more so. It wasn't something he would've done up front, but he had to know for sure.
Thus, the search began.
He tore through the boxes, unloading their contents. Dressers, vanities, tables, everything that could be placed in a furniture store or someone's living quarters. Indeed, whomever was expecting this would NOT be happy.
It took some time, yet eventually, the entire truck was emptied. Everything was removed and tossed aside. And despite it all...his efforts bore no fruit.
The parts, the pieces he was seeking were nowhere to be seen.
Nowhere at all.
Note: Anyone get the small reference put in? I didn't want to make it too on the nose, but I am worried about it being too vague too. That said, please review and give your input! Thank you! Next episode (aka set of chapters) will be focusing on Time Man and Flash Man, as well as the developing case of where the mobile suit went. Let alone, what it's being done with it. I'm a little antsy on what's going to happen with it, but let's just say that it'll be hinted at soon enough, though those that know the comics may already guess.
That said, I hope you enjoyed it! Please review! Thank you!
