Chapter 16

"Anyone can learn to do magic," Hermione muttered. "Anyone can learn to do magic." She repeated this to herself as she surveyed their available ingredients. She had to convince herself that it was true. Based on the books she'd been reading, belief was very important to the type of magic that Fiji did. "Mum, I'm going to teach you to do magic."

"You're going to what?" Edith exclaimed.

"Teach you magic," Hermione repeated. "Two spells. Pick a wand. We don't have much time." Outside, Joe and the red-headed angel were yelling at each other, their voices barely audible inside the shop.

Edith approached the wands with a look of bewilderment on her face. Her hand hovered over a length of silvery metal patterned with scales that had a dragonish claw clutching a round, white gemstone on one end. She gave that one a miss and went to the other end of the shelf to pick up a carved wooden wand that looked similar to Hermione's. She held that wand for a second before she put it back on the shelf and chose another wooden wand with a pointed purple crystal wired to the thinner end.

"Now what?" Edith asked.

Hermione teaches Edith "Wingardium Leviosa" and "Incendio". Edith banishes Bowie.

"Oh my," Edith said hoarsely.

Fiji turned to her. "I think I know how to get you home."

Deleted Line:

Fiji: "There's always the Greendale witches, but everyone prefers not to deal with them on account of the cannibalism and the patriarchy."

A/n: No, this isn't a mistake. You probably know what's been going on with JK Rowling. If you don't, you should probably look it up because I'm only going to cover the bare bones here. She has been very vocally transphobic. She's been getting even more vocally transphobic. I am no longer comfortable writing anything set in the world that she created because it feels like I'm promoting her (logically I know I'm not, but that's what it feels like). That stuff up there? That's everything I have written for this story after last chapter. I'm not writing any more. That's it, I'm done.

I'm sorry if you were enjoying this story. I'm sorry I'm leaving it unfinished for you. But I've been thinking about this a lot and I've decided that I just can't keep writing it.

Best wishes,
