Chapter 17: News

A few weeks had passed and it found the Uchiha matriarch in her apartment. She had borrowed some equipment from the hospital for this appointment. She felt weird doing this in her apartment. It was kind of cramped. It made her want to get a bigger place for her, Keichi, and Kakashi. But she still had the spare room set up, so she would use that room. She set it up then pulled Mikoto into the room and gave her a gown.

"Go ahead and get changed. I will be back in a few minutes." Mikoto nodded and Kagome grabbed the medical record she had for Mikoto. She looked through everything before going back into the room. She checked all her vitals and asked a few questions about how she was feeling if she had any questions. "Alright, now I am going to do a quick ultra sound and check the baby's heart beat." Mikoto gave a nod and watched as Kagome went about hooking up the equipment needed. She pulled the screen close and she pushed the piece of equipment against Mikoto's stomach. She moved it around while they looked at the screen. "Well I'll be," Kagome said. "Twins, Mikoto. You are having twins." Mikoto's eyes seemed to water at the sight. "Now it is still too early to tell what the genders are, but I would suggest getting everything ready for two children to be joining your household. I picked up your prenatal vitamins for the next couple of months."

"Thank you." She brushed the tears from her eyes as Kagome printed the ultrasound pictures out.

"Now for their heart beats." She pressed it against her stomach and the loud sound of rapidly beating hearts was heard. "Nice and strong." She smiled. "They are nice and healthy. Because you are high risk, I want you to take it easy and try not to stress. I put together a mix of herbs that should help with anything that is going on. You take it twice a day as a tea. When you run out, just let me know." Mikoto nodded and started to clean her belly up. "In four weeks we will do another ultrasound and check the genders of your babies."

"Thank you for this." Kagome nodded and left her with the ultrasound pictures. "I'll be out here when you are done with the things you need." She closed the door behind her. She had everything for Mikoto in the kitchen. She had started to boil water when Mikoto stepped out of the hall. She was smiling at the pictures. "I have a cup of tea for you here." She placed it on the table. "Keichi should be home from school soon, if you wanted to wait for him."

"I do want to see my grandson," she said, taking the seat. Kagome offered her some cut fruit, which she took.

There was a knock at the door and Kagome turned to answer it. She was surprised to see her mother standing at the door. "Mama, what are you doing here?"

"Can I come in?" Kagome moved aside and she entered, closing the door behind her mother. She had a scroll in her hands. "I wanted to tell you this sooner, but had to wait for the elders to make it official." She held the scroll forward. "What happened with you wasn't right. I am sorry that you spent this long away from your family."

Kagome opened the scroll to see the reinstatement of her into the clan with Keichi's name on it as well. "I have to talk to Keichi and Kakashi about this," Kagome said as she looked to her mother. "They are the biggest part of my life."

"I understand, Kagome. Keichi is your son and Kakashi is..." She wasn't sure what Kakashi was to her daughter. She hadn't been allowed to know anything about Kagome and Keichi's like until today. She felt so ill-informed.

"Kakashi asked me to marry him. I told him yes. He's been there for Keichi and I for a long time it seems." Her mother nodded.

"I should have..." At that moment the door was thrown open and three boys and a dog burst into the apartment.

"Okaa-san, tadaima! I brought friends over for a sleep over." He looked around to see a scroll in his mother's hand, his grandmother Mikoto, and some other woman he didn't know.

"Ah, Keichi. Welcome home. Why don't you show your friends to your room real quick and then come back?" He nodded and the three boys and dog were off down the hall. She rolled up the scroll as he came back into the front area. "Keichi, this is my mother, your other grandmother."

"Hello, Keichi. I am glad that I can finally meet you." She smiled at him. "I should get back. Your father will be home soon and I need to get dinner done." She wanted to hug them, but with held. She was unsure if they would allow such contact. She turned and left.

Keichi walked to his grandma Mikoto and hugged her. "I'm going to go hang out with my friends. It was great seeing you grandma." She patted his back and watched him go.

"I should get home to Fugaku," she said, tea finished and almost all the fruit gone. "I will be back for my check up in two weeks."

"Okay, Mikoto. Take it easy. It might be a good idea to have another woman stay with you during the day until Fugaku gets home from work to help you out." She nodded as she pulled her shoes on and left through the door with her vitamins and herb mixture.

Kagome got started on dinner, her thoughts full of how to go about talking about this new development with her son and fiance. She wasn't sure how this was going to go over with them. She was happy for the opportunity to go back to her family, but if they didn't want to, she wouldn't make them. Today was not the for this conversation though. Keichi had friends over and Kakashi was gone on a mission with his team. She was going to talk to the Hokage about the next thing she wanted to do. Her time at the hospital was still hectic and there was still too much drama there than she wanted to deal with. It was driving her to quit being a medic nin, something she enjoyed greatly. She was hoping Tsunade would allow her to open up a private practice. She would take on a few nin that wanted to learn the art of healing and make them better. She hoped she could get this clinic open.
