Chapter 20
Mich wanted to sleep for two days. Of course given the distressed doctors stern personality at the moment that would not likely happen; not before John and O'Grandy thoroughly checked everyone over. O'Grandy ran over the moment he saw the blood stains on Mich's shirt and pants. She was well aware that the bottom of her shirt and top of her pants were covered in dried blood. She walked slowly because one stumble and Merrick would insist on carrying her again, and she wanted to prove she was capable of walking. O' Grandy's Irish voice cut through the crowd followed by the young cabin boy with blonde hair and green eyes.
"Miss! What happened?!" Mich tried to wave him off, but between Merrick, Gabriel and O'Grandy she had to choice but to accept that she would be examined. She waved for Isz to rest and get her own wounds looked at. Mich quickly explained, but when he unwrapped the wound he didn't know what to say.
"It's likeā¦"
"Magic! "Gabriel excitedly finish for the good doctor.
Mich good naturedly messed up the young boy's hair, "Very ancient magic, but yes lad. Now may I wash and rest O'Grandy?"
"O' course Miss."
"Thank you."
The next day Mich slept all day and all night. Merrick, Isz, and her father's voices drifted in and out of the room. Loud conversation erupted above the cabin. She dressed quickly in a simple loose fitting white long sleeve shirt tucked into high waisted maroon pants and black boots. As She walked toward the door she noticed the swords Artemis left them. Someone had taken the time to make leather sheaths to match. One sword was thinner but longer than their customary short sword. Its handle had an owl's head and wings spread out engraved on the back guard of the hilt. The blade had words on the blade, Courage in Wisdom and War. The second sword was shorter with silver cross section like antlers from a stag and a round jewel at the bottom of the hilt with a crescent moon inside. The words on this blade said, Strength in the Hunt and protection of the innocent. The leather belt and sheaths however had a brand of W.T. on the inside. She smiled Merrick must have visited an old friend.
Without hesitation she put on the belt and placed the second sword in its sheath. Merrick and Jack were just outside the door.
"Sea Turtles! I could use sea turtles!" Jack shouted. Merrick was leaning against the wall shaking his head, no doubt from what must have been a long conversation to get to this point. Both men froze at her appearance. Suspicious she placed both her hands on her hips and raised an eyebrow at them.
"What would you need Sea Turtles for exactly, Sparrow?" The hint of panic in his eyes gave her the urge to smile. She looked at Merrick with an unspoken guess, who nodded with a smile. "I may have a idea."
Three Hours later
Mich knocked on the door of the captain's quarters aboard the Black Pearl. Isz was sitting by the window with a book in hand. The moment she entered ISz nearly knocked her over with a hug.
"I wasn't sure when you would wake up!" Mich returned the hug before sitting beside her on the window seat.
"Well that fight was a real pain in my side." Her best mate responded with a quick shove and a serious face.
"You know very well it's too soon to joke about that, I almost lost you." Mich replied in a gentle voice.
"You are my best friend, my sister, and family. We may go different directions but you'll never really lose me." Mich paused before changing her tone," Now I need you to do something for me. Come with me to town so we can order a wedding dress from the best Seamstress in town." Isz rushed to grab her trench coat and hat. Before they left Mich gave Isz the sword that was undoubtedly hers from Athena. She accepted it but was far more excited to help choose a wedding dress.
After traveling ashore Mich and Isz walked into the dress shop to find the graying dark brown hair of Mich's mother behind the counter. They were greeted with a shower of hugs and kisses. They told her about the adventure and somehow managed to find time for ordering the dress. Mich asked Isz to look at the satin colors from blue to purple. After an hour the dress was ordered. They spent most of the day sneaking around their old town. Just before the sun was setting they arrived back at the pearl. Where a large sword fight had broken out between both crews.
Mich ran over to Merrick and Gibbs who were fighting. She pulled her new sword, the metal was light but strong. She used an upward swing to separate them as she turned the jewel began to glow like a full moon. Isz was down below fighting through the crowd to find Jack. She looked fierce with the long blade
Gibbs, Merrick and Mich leaned down to watch.
"Jack! What happened?" He turned to attack, and Isz blocked his cutlass easily. He responded, "Maybe I was practicin'?" Isz and Jack continued to cross swords several times before Isz tripped over someone's fallen blade. Isz shouted back, "Practicing? Really?" Jack caught her by the waist and put his sword away. He pulled a ring from his pocket with a deep blue sapphire as its center stone.
"Practicing this, would you like to be Mrs. Sparrow?"
Merrick let out a loud whistle and the fighting stopped, to hear her response.
Isz smiled her brightest smile," There should be a captain somewhere in there, but Yes." Overwhelmed with excitement Mich ran to Isz and explained that despite the fight being a distraction. She had secretly ordered her dream dress while they were in the dress shop. So They could both get married as early as tomorrow, because after their adventure they had accepted that life was short.
The next day early in the morning Gibbs, found a preacher willing to marry them. Merrick and Jack put on their best. Michelle stepped out first the long sleeve lace bodice elegantly covered the top of the strapless white satin dress that flared out from the waist to the floor. A maroon sash was tied in a neat bow in the back around her waist. Isabel stepped out beside her. Her dress was a cream colored off the shoulder floor length dress with three quarter length sleeves. It had a high empire waist with a blue sash that flowed in front of her to her feet. The skirt was a right amount of form fitting yet loose for an empire waist dress. By the end of the ceremony. Both Isabel and Jack, Merrick and Michelle had kissed and become Husbands and Wives. Together they would do what they do best, go on adventures for the rest of their lives.
