A/N: If you want, you can open google and search for a Twister blanket to imagine their positions better (like I did while writing), but I don't think that's really necessary. Happy reading!
„I just had the bestest idea ever!"
Elphaba barely looked up from her spot on the desk where she had just started to spread out everything she needed for her history class assignment. She was already done with literature, life sciences and sorcery and after this one she planned to spend the rest of the weekend behind the new book series she had just purchased. Galinda, however, seemed to have other plans, even though Elphaba was sure that she hadn't finished one of the many homework assignments.
While the blonde did sit at her desk just like Elphaba, it wasn't filled with school supplies. Instead, she had turned it into a vanity with a large mirror leaned against the wall, countless shades of nail polish and tons of different make up tools Elphaba couldn't name if she tried. For the last hour she had painted her fingernails a total of three times in hope of finding the right color, reading a gossip magazine in between rounds to let it dry. Elphaba had long given up on trying to get her to do something for her classes because whenever she had tried, it had been like talking to a wall. Galinda rarely did her homework and if she did, she did it at the time she wanted, preferably in the wee hours of the morning keeping her roommate from sleeping.
"Whatever it is, do leave me out of it. I have to finish this."
"Please, Elphie?" Galinda sighed as she still didn't even look in her direction and threw a make-up brush at her. Thanks to her well below average skills of throwing and aiming, it missed the green girl and landed on her desk instead. That was enough, however, to finally get her to turn around.
"You have to work on your aim", Elphaba deadpanned and threw the brush back, hitting her on the shoulder.
"Ouch! I didn't even want to hit you!"
Elphaba smirked, gently shaking her head. "No, of course you didn't."
"Anyway", Galinda said as she picked up the brush from the floor and put it back into its proper place. "Now that you're listening to me, how about a round of Twister?"
The green girl raised an eyebrow at her. "What is that?"
"Are you serious?" Galinda's eyes nearly bulged out of her head as she stared at her in disbelief. "Don't tell me you've never played Twister before! I just played it with the others a few nights back, and it was so much fun! Oh, Elphie, if I had known I would have asked you ages ago!"
"What is it about?" Elphaba's fingers itched to get back to her history essay but the rest of her was once again at the tiny blonde's bidding. During the last months of their slowly beginning friendship, it had gotten harder and harder to say no to her, though Elphaba couldn't make sense of it at all. It was just like her brain got void of any argument once Galinda started pouting or staring at her with those big sea blue eyes. In one moment, she had a free will and an opinion, and in the next, she didn't.
Whatever Galinda wanted became her own will, and Elphaba had yet to find a solution to stop that from happening. She had never had problems like these with her sister or the other few people in her life she had been close with. No one but this overly excited, pink little ray of sunshine had lodged their way into her heart like she had. While part of it was wonderful, finally having someone she could call her best friend, it was also exceedingly terrifying at the same time.
"Okay, there's this blanket on the floor with big dots in red, yellow, green and blue and you have to start with two feet on two dots and then a there's a wheel that tells you where to put your hands or arms. The game ends when one of us falls over."
"That sounds … painful", Elphaba said, though she couldn't help but smile at the blonde's overly enthusiastic explanation that caused her to almost stumble over her words.
"It's fun!" Galinda quickly protested as she walked to her dresser to fetch the game. It was somewhat of a miracle that she had found enough space for it between her countless articles of clothing, but the blonde was a master at folding them small enough so her newest purchases found a spot.
"For you, maybe, since you are the most flexible person I know. To me, it sounds a little unfair."
"Maybe, but you on the other hand are like twice my size, which makes it easier for you to reach the dots! And ta-da, the scales are balanced!"
The adorable grin on her face made it impossible for Elphaba to protest. She sighed in defeat, causing Galinda to clap her hands in excitement.
"Fine. One round. Then I really need to finish this essay."
"It's due next Wednesday, Elphie, you have like three more days to do it", Galinda replied with a dramatic eyeroll but defensively raised her hands as Elphaba shot her a glare. "Okay, fine, one round. Now help me spread out this blanket."
When the game was properly set, and Galinda had explained where to put her feet in the beginning, she suddenly slapped her forehead.
"What is it?"
"Someone has to spin the wheel! Usually you would need a third person to do that, but-"
"Over my dead body", Elphaba deadpanned. It was one thing that she agreed to humiliate herself this way in front of her roommate, but she certainly wouldn't start to play this game with anyone else of the popular blonde's circle of friends. Even Galinda with her superpower, which she was blissfully unaware of, would not get her this far. Or at least she hoped so.
Luckily for her, Galinda agreed. "Yeah, I know. Well, I guess we'll just have to put it between us and try to spin it ourselves."
"Your idea, your responsibility."
"Such a nice person you are, Elphie, always so eager and ready to help", Galinda said as she put the wheel between them. Some of her sarcasm must have rubbed off on her, Elphaba thought with a smile to herself, although due to her high-pitched, chirpy voice, it lost some of its vigor.
Elphaba cackled. "Careful, blondie, that essay is waiting for me right over there."
"Then I would play Twister all by myself, but I would do it on your desk", the blonde shot back and stuck out her tongue, while spinning the wheel for the first time. "Now, left foot on yellow."
Elphaba looked down on the blanket. "It already is."
"You have to put it on another yellow circle then."
"Says who?"
"Me! The rule book! Everyone! Now don't be such a killjoy, Elphie, and just do it!" Galinda exclaimed, throwing her hands in the air and putting her own left foot on a yellow spot.
The green girl only grinned at her outburst, but finally complied.
"There, was that so hard? Now, right foot on red."
Elphaba obeyed with a sigh, looking down on her only slightly spread legs. "I don't really see the fun in this game."
"That's because we haven't had hands yet! Come on, you promised me one round, so stop complaining!" She shot back as she herself changed her position. "Left foot on green."
Just as Elphaba was about to place her own foot on the green spot closest to her, the blonde took an enormous step to get there first, leaving her almost in the splits. Not that it was a problem for her, the countless ballet classes she had taken as a child left her outstandingly flexible.
"What are you doing?" Elphaba asked as she chose the green circle a little bit behind her instead.
"I'm making this a little interesting, so it doesn't come to the little party on your desk. But maybe I should have changed", the blonde giggled as she tugged at her dress and eyed Elphaba's dark jeans.
The green girl felt herself color a little at that, the thought of Galinda not wearing tights or anything beside her panties under that dress suddenly turning her mouth dry. She's changed in front of you dozens of times, she tried to tell herself, pull yourself together.
Galinda raised an eyebrow as she didn't respond, but then shrugged and spun the wheel again. "Right hand on yellow."
They both reached for the same spot but Galinda managed to get to it first, so Elphaba had to settle for the yellow spot behind her. The position was a little strange, with her back so bent over, which was why she crouched down instead, making it a little more comfortable. As she wanted to look up to Galinda, however, she noticed two things. One, that their faces were suddenly so close together that she could feel her hot breath on her skin. And two, that when she tried to look down to avoid their sudden closeness, she was staring right into her roommate's cleavage, which was pushed forwards due to the position of her arm.
Breathing became difficult as she didn't know where to look, since everything seemed like dangerous terrain – not only the forbidden flesh of Galinda's breasts, but also her wide blue eyes and pink lips glistening from her lip gloss. Her cheeks felt unbearably hot and because they were so close, she was sure Galinda could see how they had changed to a dark forest green, her own hideous way of blushing.
"Elphie?" the blonde spoke again and her eyes were drawn back to her as if they didn't listen to her brain anymore, screaming at them not to. Seeing how luscious pink lips formed her name didn't help her situation at all.
Why was she feeling this way? This was Galinda, for Oz' sake, her obnoxious, loud and annoying roommate. Her stomach wasn't supposed to do backflips as the blonde's breath mingled with her own, and she wasn't supposed to be tempted to look down again, like some of these dirty predators whistling after her beautiful friend when they walked through the city. She knew all of that, and yet she couldn't help herself.
"Could you spin the wheel for me, please?"
Galinda's voice was the only thing keeping her from averting her eyes downwards again. She didn't even protest because the blonde had said she would do it throughout the game. Spinning the wheel was as good a distraction as any.
"Left hand on blue", she managed to say, not even able to comprehend what the next position would mean for them. In the corner of her eye she saw Galinda's hand move towards her, onto the blue circle right under Elphaba's legs. The only choice left for her was to lean in even more, their elbows touching as she placed her hand on the last blue spot she could reach.
As she looked up again, there was barely an inch left between their faces and Elphaba's heart was pounding so loud and fast, she was sure Galinda could hear it.
Her mind was blank. She waited for Galinda to do something, anything, because her own body was frozen, drowning in the blonde's proximity. But she didn't. Neither of them moved for what felt like an eternity.
"Galinda", she finally choked out as if her name was a question that she never got to finish, because that seemed to wake the blonde from her trance-like state. She blinked a few times, and Elphaba was sure that in the next moment she would get up, leave, and ask her what the hell she was doing looking at her like that.
Next thing she knew, Galinda did the opposite and leaned in even closer, brushing her lips ever so softly over Elphaba's, light as the stroke of a butterfly's wing. The green girl's self-control collapsed like a house of cards. Before her usually so quickly working brain could follow her, she pressed her lips harder against Galinda's, turning her gentle question into a firm answer.
If their earlier predicament had felt like an eternity, the kiss was over in a manner of seconds. It broke as Elphaba lost her balance and unconsciously pulled the blonde down with her, landing with their limbs tangled and faces hot.
"Are you okay?" Elphaba asked as she couldn't bear the silence any longer – had it been enticing and almost magical only a few seconds ago, it was now filled with awkwardness and the painful insecurity of asking oneself whether the other regretted what had just happened.
"I'm fine", the blonde quickly replied with a giggle, which soon died in her throat as she saw Elphaba's face. She reached for her hand, interlacing their fingers and reassuringly squeezing them. "I'm better than fine, Elphie. I promise."
"So you're not … mad?"
Galinda forcefully shook her head. "How can I be mad if I wanted the same thing?"
"You did?" She managed to ask, her eyes once again drawn to pink lips. Now that she had tasted them, knew what they felt like on her own, all she could wish for was for it to happen again.
Luckily for her, Galinda seemed to have the same wish. "I do."
