The next day. I was half asleep after a sleepless night as I stood with Eomer as Gandalf stood in the middle to address all of us. I stood in a red dress. Eowyn was kind enough to let me borrow her outfits since it might be awhile before we see another battle. I yawned lightly and shook my head to wake up. Eomer chuckled.
"Didn't sleep well?" Eomer asked.
"No." I said.
"There was no lie in Pippin's eye. A fool, but an honest fool he remains. He told Sauron nothing of Frodo and the Ring. We've been strangely fortunate." Gandalf said. I sighed in relief. I worried about Frodo and Sam. "Pippin saw in the palantir a glimpse of the enemy's plan. Sauron moves to strike the city of Minas Trith. His defeat in Helm's Deep showed our enemy one thing. He knows the Heir of Elendil has come forth. Men are not as weak as he supposed. There is courage still, strength, perhaps to challenge him. Sauron fears this. He will not risk the peoples of Middle Earth uniting under one banner. He will razze Minas Trith to the ground before he sees a king return to the throne of Men. If the beacons of Gondor are lit, Rohan must be ready for war." Eomer and I share looks.
"Tell me. Why should we ride to the aid of those who did not come to ours?" Theoden said.
"Valar." I whisper.
"I will go." Aragorn said.
"No!" Gandalf said.
"They must be warned." I said.
"They will be." Gandalf said. He walks up to Aragorn and whispers something to him. Oh how I missed my elf form at the moment. Gandalf turns and looks at all of us. "Understand this. Things are now in motion that cannot be undone. I ride for Minas Trith." He turns and looks at Pippin. "And I won't be going alone." Gandalf leaves shortly with Pippin and Merry.
"I want regular patrols for any rouge orcs." Theoden said, turning to Eomer. Eomer nodded and left the room. The others talked and I step outside and sigh lightly as I stepped onto the porch. Shadowfax came running out of the barn and headed out towards Rohan. Merry went running towards the Lookout tower. I lift up my skirts and run after him.
"Merry." I call as I follow him up the steps to the top. I found him staring after Gandalf and Pippin. I put a hand on his shoulder.
"He's always followed me, everywhere I went, since before were tweens. I would get him into the worst sort of trouble, but I was always there to get him out. Now he's gone. Just like Frodo and Sam." Merry said. I smile.
"One thing I have learned about Hobbits. They're a most hardly folk." I said.
"Foolhardly, maybe. He's a Took." Merry said. I chuckle as we watch them. "You think we will see Frodo and Sam again?" I look at him.
"I'm sure we will as soon as this war is over." I said. Merry nodded as we watched Gandalf disappear. I just prayed that we were warning them on time.
Its been days since Gandalf left with Pippin and no sign yet of the beacons being lit. Aragorn and I took turns being on watch. I was getting close to Eowyn and Eomer, who I went out on partrols with, much to Gimli's dislike. I just ignored him when he complained about it. Eomer and I would go on partrols together looking for rouge Orcs that escaped. So far it seemed quiet for now.
Eomer and I rode through the land of Rohan. It was beautiful. I had to admit. We stopped on a hill overlooking Edoras.
"What will you do after the war ends?" Eomer asked.
"I'm not sure. I know go home to Erebor." I said. I didn't notice a frown on Eomer's face. I looked at him. "I guess time will tell what I will do." Eomer nods.
"I wonder if the beacons will be lit or if they will be." Eomer said.
"Its just a waiting game." I said. We rode back and got off our horses and led them into their stalls. I take off the saddle. Eomer stood waiting as I closed the door and we walked towards the main hall. Eowyn greeted us.
"Theoden is looking for you." Eowyn said. Eomer nodded and left to find his uncle. Eowyn grinned at me. "You two are getting close."
"Shush. Don't want Gimli scowling again." I said as we enter the hall.
"But its fun to see him scowl." Eowyn said. I roll my eyes at her.
"You might enjoy it but I don't." I said.
"But yet you seem to like hanging with my brother that makes him complain." Eowyn said with a chuckle. I blush and look down.
It seemed to take another few days before something happened. We stood in the hall going over some plans. Aragorn was on watch. Theoden was talking with Eomer when Aragorn came running into the hall.
"The beacons of Minas Tirith. The beacons are lit!" Aragorn said as he ran in. I turned with wide eyes. The war had started. "Gondor calls for aid." Eowyn runs to stand next to Eomer. We looked at Theoden waiting for a response.
"And Rohan will answer." Theoden said. I sigh in relief. "Master the Rohirim!" Eomer nods and him and I leave together to get ready. I change into my battle clothes and grab my weapons. I come out and was greeted by Eomer as we head to the stables to get our horses. A person rings the gong on top of a tower and Riders were getting ready as I went to my horse and quickly saddle and pulled my horse out. Riders gathered as Theoden and Eomer were towards the front. I saw Eowyn on a horse. I looked out towards the horizon. The war of the Ring was now on us. My mother faced the first war and now I faced the second war.
"Now is the hour! Riders of Rohan, oaths you have taken. Now fulfil them all! To lord and land!" Eomer called. We rode fast out of Edoras heading for the meeting spot where others would be joining us.
