Chapter 19: Sonic and Eggman?! An Unlikely Alliance!
Tails and Knuckles were right behind Sonic as they ran through the forest, following Eggman in his Eggmobile. They swerved past a few trees, and jumped over some rock outcroppings. Eggman looked behind him, and was surprised. "AH! Sonic, what are you doing here? I'm not up to anything nefarious at the moment, so you can go now!" Dr. Eggman increased the speed of his Eggmobile and it left Sonic and friends behind for a short while. "Sonic! We won't be able to keep up with him at our current pace! I can fly us at a faster rate, so just hold on while I grab your hands!" Tails jumped into the air and Sonic grabbed hold of his outstretched arms. Finally, Knuckles jumped up and grabbed Sonic's legs, and Team Sonic was accelerated forward by the awesome power of Tails. They soon caught up with the Eggmobile, flying at almost supersonic speed. "Tails! Swing me up so I can hit the Eggmobile! We gotta take Eggman down!" Tails swung backwards and forwards in an attempt to get Sonic some air when he jumped. "There we go! Now we show Eggman the true power of teamwork!" Sonic performed an Air-Dash and slammed into the Eggmobile. It went down in flames and smoke. "Sonic, what was that for? I haven't done anything wrong yet! Please have mercy! I was just escaping from a disaster at one of my labs! You may have felt the explosion. An...anomaly... occurred in my South Island laboratory. One of my robots had found a mysterious creature in a pod that is apparently not from this universe. I think it originated from your Saiyan friends' world. It looked pretty odd. Then suddenly, the creature escaped. All of my bots working there were destroyed, but I salvaged something from the security cameras. Let me show you…" Eggman said as he reached back into his decimated Eggmobile and pulled out a little monitor. The footage was smudgy, but Sonic and the others were just barely able to make out a fat pink blob exploding out of a large pod. Then the blob looked at the camera, smiled eerily, and the camera was destroyed. The feed cut off abruptly. "Whoa, what was that, Sonic?" Knuckles asked. Sonic put his head down. "You may not have heard of it, but me and Tails fought this monster once alongside the Saiyans. Its name is Majin Buu. It is an incarnation of pure evil created by the wizard Bibidi millions of years ago. Then Buu went rogue, and he hasn't been seen ever since we defeated him long ago." Knuckles was shocked. "Hey, Eggman. I'm afraid to say it, but we may need your help.
We'll call over the Saiyans, get them back here, and you gather your strongest robots. I'll have Tails repair Mecha Sonic, with some customizations of course, and we'll meet back at your West Side Island base in a couple of days. Here, you can call us with these communicators." Sonic looked behind Eggman at his destroyed Eggmobile. "Yeah, sorry about your transportation. We'll fly you back." Team Sonic and Eggman headed back to Sonic's house, picked up the Tornado again, dropped Eggman off at his base, and went about the task of how to break the bad news to the Saiyans. "I suggest we just rip the bandage right off!" said Knuckles. "No sense in sugarcoating the fact that Majin Buu is back! We need to get him here fast. I know Vegeta will protest, but you gotta make him understand that the situation is dire. So, who's gonna do it?" he asked. Sonic stepped up to him and laid a hand on his shoulder. "Knuckles, buddy. I'm afraid that you have the most feasible plan here. So you're gonna have to call 'em. It's nothing personal." Sonic smiled smugly. Knuckles growled and snatched the communicator from Sonic's hand. He dialed Goku's number and waited. MEANWHILE… The Dragon Team enjoyed some nice rest and recuperation on board their spaceship home. Vegeta napped in the commander's chair, Goku trained in the training room, and Goten and Trunks played video games in their rooms together. Suddenly the onboard computer began to chime. "Incoming call from: Sonic the Hedgehog. Would you like to pick up?" Vegeta woke up with a start. "Huh? Who's that? Kakarot, can you get the phone?" Vegeta asked. When Goku didn't answer, Vegeta got up out of his seat and picked up the phone. "This is Vegeta speaking. What's going on?" The line crackled a little bit. "Hey, this is Sonic! We've got really urgent news that you need to listen to! Over here on Mobius, there was a little incident involving one of your former enemies…" Sonic said. "Well what is it? Spit it out!" Vegeta demanded. "It would seem that Majin Buu has made a return… sorry if that was a little shocking for you." Vegeta was silent on the other end of the line. Then he started speaking. "No this can't be… This can't be real. We defeated Buu with the Spirit Bomb! Nobody can survive that! I saw it myself; he was vaporized by the blast!" Vegeta started hyperventilating. "That monster killed my darling Bulma, and absorbed my dearest son, Trunks! I will not let him live! HYAAAAAAAAAA!" Even through the phone, Sonic could feel Vegeta's intense rage.
Suddenly, he heard the sound of a crackling, flashing, intense aura. Little did Sonic know, Vegeta had just managed to master Super Saiyan 3 by sheer anger alone! His hair still maintained the long appearance, but it was slightly lighter yellow colored, and most of all, Mastered Super Saiyan 3 took way less of a toll on the user's body. Vegeta's voice grew slightly more deep than usual. "When we get there, Majin Buu will pay dearly for daring to show his face anywhere ever again. I'm turning the ship around now. See you in a bit." Vegeta hung up the phone. "Well, it seems that you didn't need to call 'em, Knux. They're on their way. What we need to do is go to the workshop and repair Mecha Sonic. We need to harvest the energy of the Master Emerald and give the robot a boost." Sonic went inside and grabbed the monitor containing Mecha Sonic and Tails input the code to access the underground lab. The ground split open, and the group walked down the stairs. In the main hallway, pictures hung on the wall. Most of them were of special moments in their history, such as the time when Sonic came back to Mobius after destroying the Death Egg. Tails was walking fast through his underground lab, and he looked disturbed. "Tails, are you alright? You seem a little stressed out. What's up?" Sonic asked. Tails kept walking and he didn't respond. He opened a door at the end of a long corridor. Inside that door was a large sciency-looking room. There were tables covered in science material, a large glass box in the back of the room, and finally, a mechanics shop. Tails took Mecha Sonic and placed him in the welding area. Sonic and Knuckles sat in chairs behind him, talking between themselves. "I wonder what's up with Tails. He seems really troubled. It could be that the whole situation with Buu and everything has gotten to him." Suddenly, Tails stopped working and stood up. He walked over to Sonic and laid his head on his chest. He began to cry. "Sonic… I'm scared. Buu is on the loose. The last time we fought him, I almost died. I don't wanna relive those horrible, horrible times. Please tell me that you and the Saiyans are able to defeat him for good this time. Promise me you won't let him absorb me again, Sonic." Tails said. He kept lying against Sonic's chest. Sonic put his hand on Tails' shoulder. "Aw don't worry, pal. I've got it for you. Buu won't even have a chance to get to you. Goku, Vegeta, and I will obliterate him. I promise." Sonic said. Tails looked up at his eyes. "Thank you, Sonic." Tails resumed working on Mecha Sonic. ONE HOUR LATER… Sonic and Knuckles slept on the couch Suddenly, they were awoken by Tails. "Hey, guys! I'm finished! Also, Goku called me a few minutes ago to tell us that he'll be here in just a little while. We need to prepare for Buu. I was watching the news, and it said that he was attacking a city! Do you wanna fight him yet? We could catch him by surprise!" said Tails. He seemed ready to fight Majin Buu with all his might alongside Sonic and Knuckles. Sonic dragged himself off the couch and stood up. "Alright, Tails. We can go fight Buu. But promise me one thing: bring your all to this fight. We can't afford to just mess around with this guy.
Majin Buu is a true monster. If we can destroy him now, let's do it!" Sonic held his hand out for a high five. Tails slapped him some skin. Knuckles groaned and dragged himself off the couch. "Alright, alright. Let's go get him…" Tails turned on the TV to know the whereabouts of Majin Buu. He turned to the news channel. "A thin, grey monster is attacking West City. It is unknown the number of deaths at this time. Where are our world heroes? Team Sonic, if you are watching this, please help!" said the newscaster. Sonic grinned smugly at Knuckles and they dashed out the door. Team Sonic decided to leave the Tornado behind; West City was just across the sea. They could run that fast across the water. Team Sonic sped through the remaining parts of the island and hit the sea. The water sprayed up behind their feet, and the wind blew. "Hey, Tails! It's been a while since we've had to run this fast! It feels good doesn't it? The wind in my quills, my shoes finally getting the wash they've needed. Ah, this is the life!" Sonic clearly seemed amused, but apparently he had forgotten about the perilous danger they may be heading into. Majin Buu was on a rampage, and even the unpredictable powers of the Chaos Emeralds and Super States may not be able to stop him. The group had just passed underneath Angel Island. It looked so majestic, just hanging there in the sky, powered by the mystical energies of the Master Emerald. Waterfalls streamed off of the island's edges. Steamy air surrounded its base. The volcano stood looming over the rest of the island. It cast a large shadow over the sea. Team Sonic blasted past Angel Island and continued on with their search for Majin Buu. "Hey, team. Let's hustle, shall we? Grab my hands!" Sonic said. Tails and Knuckles grabbed Sonic's outstretched hands, and prepared to be thrown forward. "Let's blast through with Sonic Speed!"
Sonic dashed forward with Tails and Knuckles dangling from him, and zoomed across the wide open ocean. West City came into view, and it was absolute chaos. Fires raged all across the city, smoke billowed into the sky, buildings collapsed. But Buu was nowhere to be found. "Wow, I never expected the damage to be this bad. On the other hand though, this is Majin Buu we're talking about. If he gave Goku a hard time, that's a guarantee that he'll give us a hard time. Let's just hope that we trained hard enough!" Tails said. He seemed unusually optimistic for this sort of situation. Team Sonic screeched to a halt in the middle of the city, surrounded by the destruction. "This is surreal. I haven't witnessed this much chaos since, well, Chaos!" Knuckles said. Sonic flashed into his Super State. "This is the moment we've been waiting for, team. The craziest, most unpredictable villain the Dragon Team or us have ever fought." Sonic looked up into the sky, and there he was. This version of Buu, only Goku had witnessed firsthand. It was new to Sonic. This Buu was completely gray. He was tall and skinny; very skinny. He wore a black Metamoran jacket, and a deep blue cape that extended to just above his ankles. He had white baggy pants, yellow gloves and boots, and to top it all off, he wore a Majin belt; trademark of the Majin clan. This Buu was made of pure evil, unbeknownst to Sonic and friends. How will Team Sonic fare against the dastardly Majin Buu? Let's find out.
