"So…" Santana handed Brittany a cup of tea before she settled beside her. They were on the patio, seated comfortably on the lounge chairs. Brittany whispered a quiet 'thanks' and kissed the back of Santana's hand. A tug automatically appeared on Santana's lips. It was one of the little things Santana loved about her wife and no matter how many times Brittany did something like that, it would always make Santana's stomach flutter and heart warm. "Mrs. Lopez-Pierce." Santana then looked at her wife and found ocean eyes looking back at her.
"Oh gosh, you heard it huh?"
"Some of it, yeah." Santana gave her a half shrug.
Brittany leaned back on her chair as she took a thoughtful sip of her tea. She stared ahead at nothing in particular as she relived the interesting afternoon they had.
Dinner went great as expected. Santana offered to cook since Brittany handled all the details about their plan for the nursery. Everything was kept professional after the little 'talk' Brittany and Elaine had.
"Hey, you okay?" Santana worriedly looked at her wife.
"Oh, y-yeah." Brittany gave her a reassuring smile.
"Where did you go just now?"
"Sorry, I was just thinking." Brittany chuckled sheepishly. "It was embarrassing. I really didn't mean to do that, it's just… she kept on pushing all the wrong buttons and I just lost it. I'm so sorry."
"Why are you apologizing? Don't apologize, Britt-Britt." Santana opened her arms wide and Brittany moved to Santana's waiting arms. She then nuzzled Santana's neck earning a hum of approval from the brunette.
"Okay. I'm not entirely sorry for everything I said." Brittany admitted and saw the smirk on Santana's face. "She deserved it. Nobody, as in nobody, is allowed to call you San, touch you in certain ways and especially flirt with you. Can't they see how happily married we are? Damn, that girl would be into so much trouble."
"Hey, don't worry. I think she got the message, boo-boo."
"I hope she does."
"I really haven't seen you that jealous in a while."
"Me? Jealous?" Brittany scoffed and pulled back a little. Santana raised a brow at her. "Nah, you're definitely right. But I have every right to."
"All rights reserved, Britt." Santana traced her fingers up Brittany's arm. It sent shivers through Brittany's spine and her body tingled in every delicious way possible. "Plus, you look utterly hot when you do something like that." Santana whispered, her hot breath touching Brittany's ear causing the blonde to bite her lip to stop a moan that was about to escape.
God, she loves her wife too damn much!
"Hearing you claim me yours, I just wanted to pull you out and kiss you senseless." Santana inched her face closer to Brittany. With the tip of her forefinger she tipped Brittany's head to face her, their lips nearly touching. "I want you so bad that if that bitch weren't there, I'd take you then and there until I hear you scream my name over and over." Santana said with her raspy bedroom voice.
Brittany's face was already flushed, her mouth went dry at the glorious look Santana continuously gave her. Brittany leaned in to close the gap between them, not wanting to waste more time but it seemed that Santana has a different plan. She turned her head sideways and the kiss landed on her cheek instead.
"Wha –" Brittany gasped as Santana carefully pushed her back on the chair and straddled her.
It was dark outside and the only light that was enabling them to see each other was that of the moon and its reflection on their pool. It was warm outside, considering that it was summer. However, Brittany was sure that she was not sweating because of the weather.
Brittany brought her hand to Santana's thighs and the other one on her wife's waist. Santana pulled her hair to the other side of her shoulders revealing Brittany her luscious neck. Brittany was tempted to place her lips there and to suck on her favorite spot, but Santana beat her to it.
She felt the wet lips peppering hot kisses on her jaw down to her neck. A strangled moan was soon heard. Brittany's eyes shut involuntarily. She felt her body tremble with need. Her grasps tightened on Santana while Santana's kisses alternated to nipping and licking. She didn't know which one to focus on – whether it was the languid kisses Santana was giving or the increasing warmth of their bodies.
Santana pulled back after leaving enough marks on Brittany's skin. Both of them were panting. Brittany opened her eyes to look at her amazing wife, all she could see was how dark Santana's eyes were at that moment. Santana saw the exact same thing in Brittany's blue orbs - darker than ever.
Finally, Santana leaned in to kiss her wife full on the lips. It didn't take long for Brittany to respond. It started out real slow until Santana sucked lightly on Brittany's lower lip, the kiss turned into a hot make out session.
When they slightly pulled back, Santana was the one to speak. "How about we take this to our room?"
"Thought you'd never ask." Brittany smirked and planted one last kiss on Santana's lips before they went back to their room.
...
Santana laid on her side as Brittany's arms secure her closely. Her wife's breathing was even. Brittany was so much gentler with her. When they reached their bedroom, Brittany gave her a relaxing massage. To her disappointment, there wasn't any action that happened. Don't get her wrong, she liked that her wife was so gentle and caring but she was just too scared to touch her.
Santana then looked up to see Brittany already looking at her.
"I thought you were asleep." She said in her raspy, sexy voice.
Brittany smiled and kissed and on her forehead. "You were thinking... about us."
"Loudly?" Santana's brows shoot up with surprise.
"No, silly!" Brittany chuckled lightly. "I just... I sensed it. Don't worry too much, babe."
"I'm not." Santana tried to deflect.
"Right."
"Okay, I am." It earned another chuckle from the blonde. "I love you."
"And I love you too."
"No, Britt, I love you." Santana shifted and propped up on her elbow. "I... I couldn't really explain the way I feel about you, about us and about our baby. Gosh, even until now I can't believe it."
"Santana - "
"Britt, listen, I love you and I will do everything to be a good enough wife and mother for our child. I know I'll screw up along the way, we would fight, we would be too tired. But, I want you to know that I love you and I never loved anyone this much. I'll love you no matter what, whether the going gets tough and you realize how horrible of a person I truly am, I'll always, always love you."
"I don't know if that's the hormone talking but, honey, you are not and will never be a horrible person." Brittany tucked the loose locks behind Santana's ear. She then moved her hand to caress Santana's face. "We will raise our kid right. We have already started a family, San. Don't chicken out on me now." Santana playfully rolled her eyes on Brittany. "No, seriously, I love you and I promised to love all your crazy didn't I? You're not good enough because you are absolutely perfect for me, Santana. I wouldn't try to change anything about you." Brittany pulled her again closer so Santana was practically straddling her. "But, this wasn't about just that, am I right?"
Santana sighed and bit her lip. "You don't have to be scared to touch me, Britt."
"Santana, I just don't want anything to happen to both of you."
Santana chuckled at how adorable Brittany looked under her. "Gosh, seriously, Britt, I don't know how you say no to this." She wiggled her brows as she leaned down to kiss her wife.
"It's hard to practically pussy block yourself." Brittany smiled through the kiss and Santana sat back up.
"Then stop torturing yourself because you've been avoiding... this." Santana pointed out to her body and removed the tank top she was wearing. Brittany was about to reach out to her when Santana's smirk dropped and soon after a loud cry of pain was heard. Santana collapsed on Brittany as she held on tightly to her stomach.
"Britt..." Santana let out a shaky cry. Brittany laid her down to have a better look at her.
"San, what's going on? What're you feeling?"
"Bri - argh!" Santana winced in pain again as she clutched on her stomach again.
Brittany's eyes went wide and as if her whole world stop. Santana then trailed her hand down when she felt hot, sticky liquid under her. She then looked at her shaking hand to see dark red. "Blood." She whispered in disbelief.
"Don't move." Brittany was suddenly up on her feet, dressed her wife and carried her downstairs.
In record time, Brittany was able to drive to the hospital. It would take time to wait for an ambulance so she made a call to their doctor along the way. Santana was sobbing as Brittany kept on reassuring her. It broke her to see Santana in that state.
"Babe, we're here. They're gonna take you now." Brittany opened the door as nurses ushered Santana in bed and rushed her to the emergency. Brittany followed suit, her eyes not leaving her wife's.
Santana, on the other hand, continued to burst in tears while shouting "no" and "please". Brittany was halted by one of the nurses. She tried to explain something but Brittany didn't hear a single word. All she could focus on was her wife and child. The doors closed separating Brittany and Santana.
"I-I need to be there. I'm her wife." The nurse held her in place. "I'm her wife! That's my family!" She kept on shouting.
"Mrs. Lopez-Pierce, I need you to calm down. The doctor will check on her and give you an update soon."
"No, no, no. I need to be there - "
"Calm down and wait - "
"Please, she needs me! My wife needs me."
"Look, we will do everything - "
"Let me in. I need to be there. Santana needs me - "
"and come back as soon as we checked on your wife." The nurse released her slowly.
"Please, please... j-just make sure that they're okay. P-please." Brittany's breathing was shaky. She kept on holding back her tears. Her whole body trembled as the nurse guided her to sit down.
She was outside the room and it felt like everything spins around her. There were noises in the background that were muted.
She didn't know how long she was already staring at the bloody top she was wearing. It was Santana's blood when she carried her. She didn't know what went wrong. She was too careful. They followed everything the doctor said. She never let anything near Santana, not even a bug. How can she let this happen? How stupid was she? How ignorant was she on Santana's needs? What did she miss? How can she LET THIS HAPPEN to her wife?
Brittany's body continued to tremble, her fists clenched. She wanted to shout, she was furious. She was so mad at herself. She gritted her teeth as she waited for any news. Minutes turn into hours. She kept on looking at the clock by the door where Santana had disappeared. She then clasped her hands together, as if in prayer. Should she pray? She could try but she didn't know how. What would she ask? All her thoughts just ran around Santana and the tiny human growing inside her.
Fuck.
What if she lost Santana? What if she lost the baby? What if she lost the two of them.
Fucking stupid.
Brittany rocked her body back and forth. She then shut her eyes tightly then opened them up as soon as she closed them. She shook her head.
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
Suddenly, a pair of hands covered her own bloody ones. "She's okay."
She was ready to snap when she saw who it was. Only then, she was able to loosen up a little. But then, it was just for a very short while. Her walls back up again, emotions rushed in but she tried her best to suppress everything in. "Quinn." She said but it was as if some distant person said it instead of her. Quinn squeezed her hand gently.
"W-we... I... I didn't..." Brittany tried but she was overpowered with emotions, her body continued to shake.
"I know." Quinn said softly. "She's okay."
Brittany frowned a little with a confused look on her face.
"The doctor went out and tried to talk to you, but you seem so out of it. She saw me and gave me the update instead." Quinn gave her shoulder a light squeeze. "See? Nothing to worry about."
"B-but -"
"Come on." Quinn stood up and offered her hand to Brittany. She took it as Quinn guided her to where her wife was.
They saw her. She was on the bed with a monitor beside her. God, even in her sleep she's so precious.Brittany was on the brink of tears as she drew closer to her wife. Quinn must've felt it because she tightened her hold on Brittany's hand.
The doctor soon came into view, slightly blocking their way. "Mrs. LP, she's fine. We put her to sleep because she won't stop moving and we couldn't really check them unless we do that." The doctor calmly explain. Brittany's eyes never leaving her wife.
"Our baby?"
The doctor looked at Santana briefly then back to Brittany.
"Oh, God." Brittany gasped as the doctor didn't reply right away. Her eyes went wild and her heart started pounding. It pounded that she could feel her pulses in her ears. She felt light and heavy at the same time. Her head couldn't wrap up and follow whatever the doctor was saying. It was as if her mind just automatically shut out everyone that wasn't Santana.
Quinn nudged her. She looked at Quinn with the same confused expression. Quinn then asked the doctor kindly to repeat herself. The doctor nodded understandingly and faced Brittany again. This time, she made sure that Brittany was able to hear and understand her.
"The baby's fine. I told you before about this. Spotting and bleeding is pretty normal during the early stages of pregnancy but precautions still wouldn't hurt, right? It's a good call that you rushed her in."
"W-what happened?" Brittany stuttered.
"Is there something or anything that's been stressing her out lately? Is she getting enough rest? How about the meds?"
"I-it was... T-they, I mean, s-she..." Brittany didn't make sense.
"Brittany..." Quinn's motherly voice soothed her somehow for she took a deep breath and answered the doctor.
"She was taking as much rest as needed. I make sure of it. We follow... we follow everything, doctor. I don't understand. I don't... What's wrong? I didn't... I'm sure we followed everything you said."
The doctor nodded understandingly. "Again, they are all right but take this as a serious warning. The baby couldn't handle stress like this. If this happens again -"
"IT WON'T." Brittany snapped almost immediately. "It won't. I'm sorry, I just want to be with my wife now."
"I'll be back in half an hour to check on them again."
Brittany walked passed them hurriedly.
"Thanks, doctor. I'm sorry too, she's not usually like that." Quinn said.
"Nah, I get it. Trust me, she handled it way better than anyone. Just try to maybe keep an eye on both of them. We can't have them both stressed out."
"Okay, thanks again."
Brittany's world seemed to spin again in slow motion as she walked closer and closer to Santana. She was dressed in hospital gown, hair slightly disheveled. Her face was tear-stained and she felt even more guilty as she traced her gaze around her wife's face.
She then lifted her trembling hands to clasped Santana's hand. "Oh, San!" She whispered. "I'm sorry." Her voice cracked as she apologized to Santana's sleeping form over and over.
Quinn watched the heartbreaking scene as she stepped closer to Brittany's side. "It's not your fault, Britt."
"I'm sorry... I'm so sorry." Brittany whispered over and over as her voice shook but surprisingly no tears fell from her eyes. She bent as she brought Santana's hand to her lips. "I didn't know you were hurting. I'm so, so stupid. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry..."
"Britt - "
"I didn't know... I d-don't know what to do. I c-could've... I should... San... please be okay. I need you to be okay. I need both of you. Please... please..."
Quinn wiped the tears that strolled down her face as she brought her arm around Brittany.
Brittany didn't let go of Santana's hand.
"Britt, come on. Take a seat." Quinn pushed a chair behind Brittany but she shook her head.
"I'm fine." Her voice broke a little.
Quinn sighed, she didn't know what to do. All she could hope for was for the both of them to be okay.
Thoughts?
